Ill kick it off! I'm bucky or finn, he/him pronouns and I currently have 3 rats.
+) My original mischief of 6 consisted of James, Sirius, Lupin, Delsin, Hamilton and Teddy! Sadly I have lost Ham ,Teddy Lupin and Sirius within the past 6 months. This past december I rescued a baby named Tbone, so now I have Delsin James and little toblerone.
+) I've had both males and females and I really don't have a preference and appreciate both genders, ideally I'd love to have a mischief of neutered boys with females so I can love on all the rats!
+) I currently have my 3 boys in the Single Unit Critter Nation, though I have the add on but its disassembled. I really love having a giant DCN but im currently enjoying the single unit, less cleaning to do !
+) I really really really REALLY would love a dumbo siamese, PEW or a rex /patchwork rat! those are my absolute favs. I don't prefer top eared over dumbo I think theyre all cute. All rats are good rats. I'll post some pictures in the pic thread

Hi, I am Detective! He/Him :)
1. I don't currently have any rats! But I owned rats for over 7years. The most I had at one time was 10 keepers and then a few babies ~
2. I have had many special girls but male rats will always have my heart for sure. My favorite boys loved going on bike rides with me and learnt lots of tricks. I just found them to generally be more chill and loving.
3. I had a double Critter Nation. But I don't think I'd get one again... It was a pain to clean and even with cleaning the bars I got a little rust and had to toss it :S Next time I'll go for some ferret cages I think.
4. Burmese and Siamese are my fav <3 My first boy was a burm. and he bred it onto two more boys I kept (one a burmese hooded). I like either top or dumbos but dumbos are fun to smooch on My dream rat is a blue rex dumbo~

@Detective im right there with you with the cleaning and the rust! Mine has very very very minimal rust right now and im trying to keep it that way I really only like the CN because of the wide opening doors and the 1/2" bar spacing (and its huge). The cleaning and spare poops/rat kibbles falling through the bars i could do without

Damn y'all are experienced. I got my first rat ever around 2 months ago.

My name's Emily, Sloth, or Yokai. I only have one rat (I know I should get more, but my mother hates rats and I would be dead if I tried to get a second lol). I've had to experience with females so I have to say male- I've read up on both and Peter and I can just chill and watch the Office together. My current set up is?? I don't even know the name of it, but it works well for him, and gives him three areas. I plan to make him a larger and cooler cage later on, so rn it's kinda bad. I don't really have a fave marking either oops-

8 Rats (4 males, 4 females) along with 3 different litters of babies

2. Males vs Females, which do you prefer and why!

I can't really choose I pretty much love both each, both my males and females are sweet.

3. Whats your cage setup (or dream setup)?

Tote with 2 sides, front and top cut out and then Hardware Cloth covering the holes from the inside with wire to hold the hardware cloth in place.

4. Favorite color/marking ? Dumbo vs Top-ear?

I really love my Fawn and Silver Fawn boys but I also have a Russian Blue boy that was born about a month or so ago that's really pretty, along with his Agouti mother.

Really love Verigated Hoods and hoods completely along with Merle. Mine are all Dumbos

Yes I am, just a small scale right now. I breed for feeders and pets.

Yes they come in Merle but it doesn't look like the Merle you would see on a dog.

- I own two! Their names are Padfoot and Moony, I love them to death.

- I actually just started keeping rats, but from what I've heard and observed of behavior, boys. I love those lazy cuddle bugs!
3. Whats your cage setup (or dream setup)?
- I have a pretty large cage at the moment, with two levels and a hammock. I'm hoping to add more things for them to climb on, but at the same time, neither of them seem too intent on trying to climb. They like to spend most of their time snuggled up on the towels that cover their shelves or trying to tear them off to nest with (even when I already provide them with paper and cloth strips, lol)
4. Favorite color/marking ? Dumbo vs Top-ear?
- I love Siamese/Himalayans, and actually, one of my boys is one! He's a dumbo rex Himalayan, and he's absolutely adorable.

I love my ratties, so its awesome to see a clan for other rat lovers! You all can call me Pan, Pangur, honestly anything close to my username. I'm fine with any pronouns besides "it".

I have kept a total of five rats, but I've cared for/fostered another two.
Currently I have three; Owl, Butterscotch and Brain. My last two girls, may they rest well, where Cat and Boots. The fosters where Cougar and Face.

I have only ever owned/cared for female rats, so I can't really say! My next generation of rats, I'll be trying to get some males, but thats over a year away before I even need to really think about it.

My dream cage.. I dunno, probably a tall cage with a tank/bin bottom, and coated bars (I've had to toss one cage due to rust already). I've always given my rats lots to climb, but they don't have a digbox that is really incorporated into the cage, even though most of them really enjoy burrowing when they get the chance.

My favorite markings have to be... Honestly? Anything that isn't just one solid colour. I don't really think I can pick a favorite.

I really love dumbo rats, I just love the dopey little faces they have. The low-set ears just give them a cute, almost teddy look. Though the only one I've ever had the pleasure of caring for was Cougar!

Hello all! I'm Cerrates and I'm really excited that we finally have a Rat club on lioden! ^_^

1. How many rats do you have, if any?
3 Boys right now! Bellamy (husky roan), Regis (silvermane), and Pepper (siamese). They are all dumbo. :) I've owned rats for years though and in total I have had 10 boys over the years.

2. Males vs Females, which do you prefer and why!
I tend to prefer males because they are more cuddly and easier to keep up with, but the girls can be a lot of fun too!

3. Whats your cage setup (or dream setup)?
I've got a triple critter nation but since I currently only have 3 boys and they all get along they only really use two of the levels most of the time.
(one trick I found to help out with poos in the critter nation is I close the ramp to the lowest level but leave it uncovered so there is an open grill in the floor of one corner, then I put a cardboard box on the shelf bellow. My boys will then mostly use that corner to poop and it falls through the grate into the box bellow like an outhouse lol. Keeps their cage cleaner and easy to empty the poops)

4. Favorite color/marking ? Dumbo vs Top-ear?
My dream colors would probably be a cinnamon merle, a rex agouti, and a Burmese, but I have a soft spot for mismarked capped boys (my first heart rat was one and the little spotted faces just melt my heart).
I also love Siamese and Silvermane and Roan, Pure Black Selfs, and several others lol.
I like both dumbo and top eared. Top ears always look more sophisticated but dumbos have the cute advantage hehe. Both my heart rats have been top eared.

how long does it take to clean out a TCN ???

Ahahaha I'm very thorough so probably longer for me than for most people....but it takes me around 2+ hours per level for a deep cleaning. I wash and disinfect every surface (trays, bars/walls - inside and out-, edges, all their hides and space pods, wheels, etc, change and wash fleece flooring and hammocks, and replace their chews)

With only 3 boys in such a big cage though I only do that level of cleaning once a week, and the rest of the time just keep the poops picked up and change the fleece out when it gets dirty. The "outhouse" corner helps haha.

it took me around 2 hours to clean my DCN . is there a reason you have such a huge cage for 3 boys ? do you plan on getting more : 0 ?
