Decay A feminine, monotone voice echoes through the halls of a suburban family home, "An estimated 250 dogs live at the plant itself, 225 in the city of Chernobyl, and hundreds more roam around, for a total of more than 1,000, according to SPCA International. Wolves and the need for food have driven the dogs from wooded areas surrounding the plant into the Exclusion Zone." - Spcai "Don't watch something so depressing, sweetie. The puppies are fine." The screen goes black. setting music The city is picturesque from the television screen. Though living amongst the crumbling, overgrown, radioactive buildings is another hell entirely. Dogs whose ancestors were abandoned by their masters in order to escape the explosion generations ago still remain here to this day, too far into the Exclusion Zone to be saved by any humans residing outside of Chernobyl. Many have been born with birth defects, sometimes visible but more often affecting their minds, organs and lifespans. Two major packs have risen out of the dust, Abolition and Insurgent. The packs have always been at odds but due to the encroachment of wolves and low resources, space is low and tempers are at an all time high. Can they come together to overcome the odds or will their own greed tear them down? Abolition Abolition's territory consists of the Nuclear Power Plant itself, surrounding water channels and a small portion of woodlands. Veira | Insurgent | Leader | Location: Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Open Veira's muscles ripple under her dark coat as she skulks through an alleyway neighbouring the hospital, Insurgent's 'base camp' of sorts. The silence was deafening, broken only by the jarring noise of her nails scraping against the pavement and the occasional chirp of nesting starling. A movement catches her eye and the sighthound doesn't falter, diving after the figure. Her ears lie back on her head as she rushes to grab a fleeing rat. Teeth snap shut around it's tail in a dull click, a snarl escaping through her closed incisors as the rodent twists around, biting at her face in an attempt to free itself and successfully digging it's teeth into her snout. She drops it to the pavement and pins it's body to the ground with her paw as she pauses to lick the blood dripping from her nose before quickly dispatching it. "That smarts," She says in a quiet hiss, rubbing her throbbing nose against her leg. She gingerly picks up the lifeless body in her mouth and begins hastily trotting out of the area. She had planned on catching a few more rats before moving on but the racket this vermin had caused before departing had most certainly alerted all of it's fuzzy friends to her presence. Dove | Abolition | Healer | Location: Abolition Camp | Mentions: Open The pale-coated female stares blankly at her rapidly-dwindling collection of herbs, her face barren of any expression as she picks up the dried stalk of a flax, devoid of it's seeds and drops it onto the concrete beneath her paws. It seems it's time to restock.. She runs her tongue over her teeth and hums softly as she gets lost in thought. Plants were plentiful near the cooling tower, though that would bring her dangerously close to the Insurgent territory border. She casts a last, weary gaze at the empty shelves she used to store her medicinal supplies. The sooner she got there, the better. She turns sharply and heads out of the nuclear plant, her eyes scanning the horizon for the towering building. Ah, there it is.. she would only have to pass the water channels and then she could stock up on as many herbs as her heart desired. She hops down the rickety metal stairs, flinching as they groan and shift under her weight. The air was uncomfortably warm, moisture lingering in the air causing fog to rise from the large pools of water surrounding the plant. Visibility was low, she would have to be careful. One wrong step could mean slipping into one of the ponds. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Kirtonos // Abolition Beta // Location: Abolition Camp // Mentions: Open He had been tracking the foul beast for a few days now, and at last, he had found the nasty intruder. It was a gnarly beast of impressive proportions, considering the size of what the creation may have been years before the radiation struck. It had probably been the size of a younger pup, and while it was a terrifying size for a rat, it wasn't the largest that Kirtonos had seen. Nonetheless, he considered it extremely important to exterminate the pest, taking into mind the diseases it might carry the the wrath it might bring. The scuffle began intense, yet it was brief and hailed the beta victor. The dark-furred rat had numerous beady eyes in its skull, making it difficult for the mutt to sneak up on the beast, so he decided to be abrupt in his approach. Quick and painless. He received a nasty bite on his leg for the effort, but it was minimal damage, considering what it might have done to a pup. Kirtonos returned to camp with pride in his stride, carrying his prize along with him. Rats were disgusting, but when it came to prey, things had a tendency to come and go. He couldn't pass up the opportunity of turning what might have been a potential threat into a half-decent meal for anyone that was hungry. The flesh on Kirt's right foreleg was bare and red, but the pain had subsided and he assumed that it would heal with minimal complications. Radiation did wonky things- it made him huge, and sometimes, he felt that he healed better than most members, at least when it came to basic flesh wounds. He never handled minor illnesses like colds very well, if he was being honest. The dark-coated deposited his catch into what would hopefully develop into a full pile of prey later on. He'd have to see to it that the lazy warriors got off their rears and set out to hunt. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Achak || Insurgent Scout || Location: Insurgent Territory ||Mentions: Open The sun shone in Achak's eyes as he trotted a down a path that was muscle memory to him by now. His paws landing silently but his claws scraped against old and crumbling concrete every now and then, pricking at his annoyance. Glancing around he continued on his way, ears swiveling at every little noise. Rats scurrying between the occasional trees only to jump onto an old box or random objects laying on the ground, watching the lean dog until he is out of sight. 'Some are getting bolder..and bigger.' The though ran across Achak's mind, observing them. The vermin have always been a part of life here in the alleyways and abandoned buildings, but occasionally nowadays they would try to nip at a passing dog's toes. Or if an animal slept outside, the chance of being attacked by rats grew higher with each passing sun cycle. Good food has always been harder to catch, yet with how quickly these pests bred they were starting to hunt larger prey in order to keep up with supply/demand. Turning away from his small onlookers, Achak sniffed the air but didn't find anything worth while so he trekked on. The path was a distraction, not a very good one, but nonetheless he walked it nearly everyday since joining the pack. It wasn't near the camp where the dogs in his pack lived. Instead it was closer to the boarder with the other, larger pack. Not that he cared though, stepping into another pack's territory usually meant you got killed and even he wasn't dumb enough to cross it. A small animal darts from around an alleyway a few feet ahead to dive for cover underneath a cluster of shrubs, but before it can fully get into the plant teeth rips through flesh. Almost missing the bite entirely, Achak just barely is able to grab the rabbit's toes and pull it into plain view, one of his paws immediately stepping on it's throat to crush the fragile bones beneath. He hadn't expected the rabbit to run in front of him in broad daylight but couldn't let the opportunity pass. Pleased with himself for his quick reaction he picks up the animal by the scruff and continues on his path along the boarder, keeping his ears perked and eyes open in case any more prey wanted to try their luck today. 0 players like this post! Dove | Abolition | Healer | Location: Abolition Camp | Mentions: Kirtonos Her beta's form emerging from the fog drew Dove's attention but the odd amalgamation he had just tossed into the prey pile caught her off guard and momentarily made her falter, forgetting about her quest for herbs for now. Had she seen that right? She hesitates for a split second before hastily approaching the corpse and giving it and it's assassin a long, thoughtful look over. A rat? No.. maybe once, but not anymore. It's eyes staring back at her made a queasy feeling rise in the pit of her stomach and she was forced to look away, her gaze falling on the smallest droplets of blood staining the concrete beneath Abolition's beta. "You're hurt," She states softly, eyeing the wound on Kirtonos' leg. If that rat had been the culprit for inflicting the bite it needed to be cleaned rather quickly, there was no telling what kind of germs were brumating inside it's body. "Come. I'll treat it." She turns swiftly, not awaiting a response and scaling the stairs in a haphazard leap as she returns back to her collection of remedies. Her mind races, a paste of coneflowers would ward off infection and give it time to heal. The sight of her almost-empty apothecary reminds her of the need to make a trek to the cooling tower. That would have to wait for now though. Veira | Insurgent | Leader | Location: Insurgent Camp | Mentions: Open The squeals of rats scurrying just out of her sight made Veira's coat prickle in anger. It was infuriating, them being able to hear her before her damaged ears could pick up on the sounds they made. Hunting was useless now, she had given herself away and now was at a stark disadvantage to the cunning little brutes. She would just have to return later.. or pick a new spot, though the heat rising from the pavement coupled with her dark coat was making her feel quite sweltering and perhaps it was time to throw in the flag and return back to camp. Her pace shifts from a slow stalk to a determined trot as the thought of greeting her subordinates and getting out of the sun's brutal rays slips into her mind. Though as she finally entered camp, she saw not a dog in sight. Diligent, as usual. She thinks to herself, nodding her head proudly at the thought of her pack mates rising early to perform their daily duties. Her paws pushing glass across the polished floors as she enters the hospital breaks the pristine silence and she sets her catch down into a pile with a few other small carcasses, sinking back on her haunches to catch her breath and cool off. 0 players like this post! Daya / Insurgent Betta / Location: Insurgent territory The brindled female had awoken at dawn, the very first rays of light shining softly over the abandoned hospital she and her pack occupied. Daya rose to her paws and stretched her sore body, the previous day's long hunt stiffening her muscles and bones. She set out quickly and began the early morning task of patrolling and border marking, preferring to do it solo. She found nothing interesting on her trek, the smell of her pack heavy along the specific markers likely sent most creatures running. Daya finished the patrol as the sun crept into the sky, slowly heating her body until she felt drained by the heat, the asphalt giving its final warnings that soon it would be far too hot to stand on. She dipped into the cool hospital, her nails clicking softly on the floor. She smiled as her Alpha's dark form came into view, dipping her head with respect as she approached. "Morning, Veira," she greeted, "Did hunting find you well?" ____________________________________ Daigo / Insurgent Warrior / Location: Insurgent territory Morning found Daigo twitching in his sleep, a nightmare clinging to his unconscious mind, soft whimpers escaping his jowls. The male woke suddenly and quickly, his heart beating heavily in his chest. The soft sound of the world waking up calmed him, birds and insects humming. Even in the decimated land they occupied, the wildlife still clung to their habits, waking up with the sun. He rose and glanced around, glad to find he hadn't over slept and could probably sneak out before the Alpha returned from her morning hunt. The muscled canine saw the dappled figure of his betta trotting out and smiled, glad to be part of such a proactive group even if he occasionally overslept. He followed suit and hunted the morning away, snagging a small rabbit that appeared to have somehow lost its left front leg. An easy kill, but the male knew every bit was needed and honestly it had managed to outrun him pretty well, even with the injury. He stashed the prey and continued hunting, hoping to at least get one more small item. The sun rose further and further until he gave up with a sigh, most of the prey he found either out maneuvering him or just being relatively inedible. Daigo returned home, glad to at least have his rabbit in his jaws. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Kirtonos // Abolition Beta // Location: Abolition Camp // Mentions: Dove, Open Injuries, they happened quite frequently in his line of work. It was expected of him to get wounded on the job, as it should be of all the warriors as well, assuming they were working hard and well. Their lifestyle and terrain was rugged, and enemies lay in wait around every corner- returning home wounded was a hundred times better than not returning home at all. "But a scratch." He rumbled in his low tone with a dismissive flick of a bat-like ear. The shepherd followed his healer regardless, but he wasn't obeying her in order to get a simple bite wound patched up. Herbs were better saved for significant injuries, such as ones that might be delivered by their rivals, Insurgent. Fighting over territory and resources was to be expected, and Kirtonos would ensure that they would be prepared. "Don't waste those meager herbs on me." He commanded with his eyes narrowed in a serious manner, ducking after her to review her herb stores. He wasn't interested in having her spit some nasty poultice onto his open wound, rather he had followed Dove to check the levels of her supplies. Kirtonos was no herbalist, but as his amber orbs flickered over her stores, it appeared that some flora was lacking. Drawing in a deep breath, the broad-chested canine turned to face the pale-coated healer once more. "I'll see to it that you have an escort or two to the cooling tower promptly, to gather whatever you're lacking. With Insurgent breathing down our necks, we can't risk sending you alone." It wasn't so much that he wasn't confident in Dove being able to handle herself, so much as Abolition couldn't risk losing her or whatever supplies were at the tower. 0 players like this post! Veira | Insurgent | Leader | Location: Insurgent Camp | Mentions: Daya, Daigo The sight of her beta and warrior returning from their day's work made Veira's spirits rise and she pulls herself to her feet to greet them. "It found me, but not well. It seems as though the prey is becoming more cunning and scarce." She replies with a sigh, casting a weary glance at the prey pile. "I'll try my hand at it again when the sun goes down, perhaps closer to forest. Who knows, maybe a few deer will find their way into my path?" She adds, her tone becoming lighter and playful. She turns away, eyes lingering on the rays of sun beaming in through the cracked and plant-ridden windows. Hunting near the forest at night would prove to be dangerous, as it was bordering Abolition territory and was frequented by wolves. If they could make one large kill though it could easily outweigh all of the risks involved and would definitely boost Insurgent's morale. They needed this hunt to be successful. Dove | Abolition | Healer | Location: Abolition Camp | Mentions: Kirtonos Dove's nose crinkles in thought, "It wouldn't be a waste, our pack is strongest if it's beta is at his strongest as well." She states as she gazes at the wound, an odd but affable tone to her voice. "Though, if you don't want me to treat it I can't force you." She turns with a flick of her tail, staring down at the dead plant she had thrown to the floor earlier, now crushed into dust under her paw. "I am low on herbs and company would be nice but I do believe going alone would be much quicker." Her eyes rise to study the expression of her beta, hoping he would agree to her statement as well. Wolves were a rare sight to see this close to the reactor so they were the least of her concerns and if she did come into contact with Abolition or an unknown canine, one dog would be a lot less intimidating than a group. If that interaction were to happen, she was sure she could talk her way out of a conflict with them. 0 players like this post! Daya / Insurgent Beta / Location: Insurgent camp Smiling at her Alpha's determination, Daya hummed. "I could tag along, if you'd like. Perhaps even our scout could join us?" She offered, perking her striped ears. Daya knew Veira could and would take down a deer herself, but she'd be lying if she said she wouldn't be worried for the alpha to be alone near the woods. She glanced over at the limber black canine and her ears flattened as she saw studied a small wound on the female's nose, concern evident in her amber eyes. "Did the healer already take a look at that?" She knew Veira probably didn't actually get examined, but offering it as a question would hopefully remind the alpha to take care of it. Daya padded closer and gave the wound on Veira's snout a quick lick. ____________________________________________________________ Daigo / Insurgent warrior / Location: Insurgent camp Daigo's thoughts were occupied as he stared at the small prey pile, consumed still by his nightmare. He vaguely heard his packmates discussion, not paying much attention. Something about his dream felt ominous, like a warning. He had a twisted feeling in his gut, his body tense. Daigo stood slowly, forcing his eyes away from the prey and giving his thin coat a good shake, some light dust and debris flying off his form. He gazed over at the females and noted Veira's wound and Daya's overbearing concern with a soft smile. "Speaking of our scout, shouldn't Achak arrive soon?" He mused, glancing back at the hospital doors. The sun was in full force now, the pavement outside hot enough to seriously injure the dog's paws. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Achak || Insurgent Scout || Location: Insurgent Territory - Camp ||Mentions: Daya, Daigo, Veira As Achak drew closer to the hospital that his pack claimed as their camp his legs moved faster, picking up from a walk into a trot. The pavement had heated up since the morning hours and he had spent longer outside then usual. But taking the chance to hunt was worth many risks considering how scarce food was. If the pack didn't have the energy to continue hunting or to defend what was theirs then that meant death in this world, plain and simple. When the hospital came into view the young mutt broke into a solid run to minimize contact with the heated ground. Once inside Achak walked over to where the camp was set up in the building, his nails clicking on the tile with each step. His splayed paw dropping unevenly and making noise barely a heartbeat behind his other paws, but still noticeable enough that other dogs would recognize it as his gait. Dropping the rabbit and a rat three times their normal size onto the dwindling prey pile. Turing towards the other members of the pack he dips his head to Veira in sign of respect and sits down a few feet away from Daya and Diago. "Morning" he greets, not really directing it at any dog in particular. 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 07/09/19 @ 17:52:04 by Gladiator (#44969) |

Kirtonos // Abolition Beta // Location: Abolition Camp // Mentions: Dove, Levi, Mercy, Open The shepherd mix raised his chin. "A beta is but another body, nothing like an alpha or healer. I am very replaceable." It sounded rather ridiculous and made the beta appear worthless, but he had a point to prove, and he was stubborn when it came to that. His amber eyes remained locked on the pale coat of Dove as she insisted that she travel alone, and he scowled bitterly. Of course, she had to be equally as stubborn! Parting his jaws, he prepared to argue with his healer about forcing an escort along with her for her journey, but the alpha spoke her mind before he could fire off the words. "You will accept treatment." The dark-coated beast turned to face his alpha with his jaw muscles tensing, forcing himself to swallow an argument to meet his alpha's challenge. The manner in which she so smugly sat and faced him informed Kirtonos that there would be no point in attempting to continue with his refusal. Taking in a deep breath while gritting his teeth, the stoic canine returned his attention to Dove. "Fine. You can treat me." He spoke tensely and halfheartedly, still convinced that a meager rat bite wasn't worth their scarce herb supply. However, when Levi decided to back the beta's decision up, the german shepherd mix grinned complacently. Ah, yes! He had a volunteer- Dove couldn't disagree with their orders now. If Mercy thought otherwise, she would've spoke her mind. "See? Even our warriors agree- an escort is necessary in these times. Two heads are better than one, yes? And I don't think Insurgent would see two dogs as a threat either, we all know that our surroundings are hazardous and that extra precautions are necessary." An ear twitched in the alpha's direction to acknowledge her presence and welcome her input on the matter. "Plus, the two of you might be able to catch something on the way back. Or, he can help you carry herbs so you can return with more than usual." 0 players like this post! Like? |

Dove | Abolition | Healer | Location: Abolition Camp | Mentions: Kirtonos, Mercy, Levi The presence and words of her alpha made Dove spring back into action, going to retrieve the balm of wildflowers and various other herbs in a robotic fashion. She takes the concoction and presses it into the wound on Kirtonos' leg, taking the salve back to her stores and placing it back into it's shelf for safe keeping before grabbing a mouthful of lichen to wrap the wound. Once finished, she steps back to admire her handy work before speaking, "It seems I have no choice on the matter." She releases a shaky sigh and smiles at Levi, "Thank you for taking time out of your day to accompany me." She sends a final nod to her alpha and beta, "I'll check the rat bite in the morning, you should be able to remove the wrapping when it stops bleeding- as long as the wound's kept clean." She speaks to Kirtonos as she skirts around Mercy to exit the room once more, "We should be leaving, Levi. The sooner we get there the sooner we can return." She motions for the warrior to follow her and descends the stairs, pausing at the bottom to make sure her traveling companion is following suit. Veira | Insurgent | Leader | Location: Insurgent Camp | Mentions: Daya, Daigo, Achak "I could use some help, though it depends on what unforeseen circumstances behold us this evening." She responds in a lighthearted tone, settling down to rest on the cool tile flooring. The touch of her beta's tongue against the wound on her nose causes her ears to flick back as a jolt of pain runs across her face. Though Daya's concern for such a small bite makes the lanky sighthound forget about the sting and chuckle softly as she rubs her sore nose against her paw, "I had honestly forgotten about it. I'll tend to it soon." She responds, her eyes flicking up to meet the scout's as he enters. "Hello, Achak." She greets her pack member calmly, studying him for a moment before speaking again, "Any new findings to report on this morning?" Her voice's pitch changes to an inquisitive lull and she stretches the tension out of her limbs, her head slowly lowering to rest against the ground as her posture relaxes. The heat of the day had an uncanny way of sapping the strength out of her and she couldn't help but feel a bit groggy when the sun was at it's highest peak in the sky. 0 players like this post! Dove | Abolition | Healer | Location: Abolition Territory | Mentions: Levi, Rutilis She noted the fog clearing from the air as they left the nuclear plant, finally setting out on her journey to reach the cooling tower. Dove could see the wavy haze of the heat rising off of the asphalt as she and her pack's warrior walked in silence, the stillness broken by the occasional splash of fish breaking the surface of the water in the channels. She kept her focus concentrated on her footing, making sure not to step off of the grass and onto the splintered patches of burning hot pavement. Levi's voice causes the pale coated lass to jolt back to reality. "What is what?" She inquires in a distracted tone, shaking her head a bit as if to clear it of spider webs. She gives him a confused glance and her ears twitch as she strains to pick up the noise he was speaking of. An odd, hoarse wail echos ominously towards the two from behind the mangled chainlink bordering the plant, did it just say mama? Dove's head rises and she begins trudging through the dense, waist-high grass towards the voice. Her gate was rushed and a bit panicked as she turned her head in an attempt to locate the scent of the strange figure. Ah, there it is. A hint of blood and.. bear? She cringes a bit as the smell wafts over her nose and she rushes forwards, almost missing the tiny pup entirely. "Oh. There you are." She bends down to look at the frail canine, noting the wound on his head. Her chest heaves from the sudden exertion in the mid-day heat and she casts a long glance around the area in search of any other 'guests'. "What's your name, dear?" She asks, her voice shifting to a more soothing tone as she comes closer to the pup, a wave of emotion flooding her senses as she attempts to blink back an onslaught of tears forming in her eyes. 0 players like this post!
