Le OOC thread - Link
----------
Dragons have always been a part of Alagaesia's history, longer than any man could remember. The Riders and their dragons once ruled over Alagaesia, protecting and serving its people. Now, however, the Riders have long since fallen - despite the absence of Riders, dragons still flourish. Feral dragons roam the skies, the ground, the sea - while revered, to anger a dragon meant death. Some respected these creatures, while others hated them.

With the rise of the new King, the Riders became a negative part of their history - while the Fall was shrouded in mystery, the King wielded it for his benefit, turning the public against the Riders of Old. Now, it seems, the Riders are returning - the world that once revered them, however, have all but turned against them.

But something bigger seems to be rising - something has been affecting the dragons. Wild dragons act erratically, they do not behave as the grand, exalted beings they are known as. The patterns noted previously mean nothing in the face of their fire and claws. Bonded dragons are losing their touch, refusing to speak any language and behaving like feral beasts- even attacking their riders. The dwarves have retreated into there cities, blaming the riders for bringing the tragedy upon them, saying that any majestic beast such as a dragon forced under the yoke of a man is bound to break at some point. The elves say nothing, no word has been passed through them for some time. They are there, and their cities open, but every citizen is frantically busy; searching their histories and performing their rituals in any attempt to ease the wound upon their home. Human kingdoms close upon themselves, scoring outsiders and raising armies. They blame each other, and olive branches and bridges alike are burned.

Among the disarray, odd creatures are popping up along the continent, bewildering even the smartest elf and oldest dragon. Whispy things made of silver or gold, one second dancing in the scattering light and the next blown away with the wind. They speak no language, make no noise, and have no home, but wherever they appear they leave their mark. Animals and plants alike seem to bend to their will, forming strange beings and pockets of magical landscapes.

Perhaps these creatures are bending the dragons to their will? Even the elves do not know. One thing is for certain - if the dragons' behaviors became more erratic, what once was cities and villages may simply become burned, charred masses of what once was.

------
In general, the rules of how the world/Alagaesia works is the same as in the books, although instead of dragons basically being extinct/non-existent except for a small handful, like during Eragon's time, there are plenty of dragons, but most are wild and generally pretty feral. (So villages get burned down frequently because someone decided to piss off one of the dragons and whatnot, lol). Riders are pretty much non-existent, though, since years of living with wild, easily-pissed off dragons kind of makes everybody hate them lol. (Obviously, there will be riders in the roleplay. :))

There are elves, dwarves, and the like, and I think I'm gonna have it so any human/dwarf/elf etc character can be a rider (I know in the books it was only humans and elves, I think.)

Ok. He looks big enough to ride, but it's really up to both of you to decide when you're ready." She said before turning her attention to Jedish as she said something to Shondurn.'have you flown yet, young one? By yourself?' Jedish asked quietly, her large head bending down so that she was level with the smaller male.

Tirr nodded thoughtfully ad Shrodurn dipped his head in a half-bow half-nod, still privately in awe of the older dragon.

"I have, although only by myself." He responded, rumbling something like a laugh, "My rider is too fearful to ride."

He tucked his wings to his sides, biting back the curiosity in his words "I assume you and your rider fly quite frequently?" Shrondurn asked.

(Oof sorry about no italics I was kinda rushing)

(No biggie. I don't use italics because I'm lazy)

Jedish nodded."yes. We fly quite often." She said, relaying Shrondurns previous information to Mialöldrí.
MialöldríNodded any turned to Tirr. "Have you flown with Shrondurn yet?" She asked curiously

Tirr shook his head, "Not yet."

He resettled his feet nervously, "He's flown on his own, obviously", he chuckled, "but I haven't with him. I was kinda waiting until we got the o.k from you."

Shrondurn tilted dhis head and narrowed his eyes, giving Tirr a Sharp but good-humoured look. "No mention of your fear, Scaredy-Cat?", The dragon plucked.

Tirr shot him a look, directing his thoughts at the dragon, 'Don't call me that! Where'd you even hear that!'

He hoped that Mialöldrí and Jedish hadn't picked up on his apprehension as well.

Well. I give you the ok. It's best to fly when your dragon thinks that it's ready to carry weight. Judging by His looks, he should be good." She said with a smile. "before you do any flying though. You're going to need a saddle. Dragon scales with tear up your legs, both from chafing and from their edges. " she said.

Wuuthra gave a toothy smirk, head tilting as he regarded the cave mouth with interest. " I am always silent." he boasted, nose to the wind as he scented the air.
-----
Rao stretched out to move closer to the strange item, when something sharp stabbed into her mind. The dragon recoiled in pain, tail thrashing as she feebly pushed against whatever was attacking her. Relnin was experiencing the same, a hand clutching Rao's wings. They were unable to fight back against the power of whoever was attacking them, so Relnin pressed himself against Rao, hoping that their combined strength would give them some kind of chance against it.

Shrondurn gave Tirr a smug smile as the half old's brow furrowed, already half-formed plans and schematics floating through his head.

"Is it similar to a horse's saddle?" He asked, "How can I make one?"

Ehhh. Kinda?" She said, grabbing Jedish's large saddle. "You're going to eat straps across your leg so that you don't fall off" she said, tugging on the straps as she spoke. "It's kinda up to you how you want it, but you're going to want it to fit him" she added, gesturing to Shrondurn.

Tirr nodded, smirking lightly as Shrondurn puffed put his chest self importantly. He listened carefully as Mialöldrí explained, adding her words to the plans in his mind, Shrondurn occasionally chiming in.

"Did you make Jedish's saddle? When the Riders were more prevalent did they all make their own saddles, or was that like a separate job- like their swords?" He asked curiously, bordering on rambling.

'Yes. I made Jedish's saddle. All riders make their own, with or without help of other riders, depending on their preference." She said, struggling to explain. She was unsure of how to explain all the information that she knew.

Tirr smiled warmly , glad to be learning as much as Mialöldrí could teach him. Shrondurn listened as well, wrapping his thick tail around his grey-green talons.

"I'll get started on making one right away.", his smile widened.

(Sorry for length lol)

(No biggie)

Mialöldrí Nodded. "You're going to want thick leather. It won't wear away as fast, if at all. You can either make one like a horses saddle, hard and molded to allow riding for hours with ease. Or you can make one that is thin and lightly padded and is better for greater speed and flexibility. I use a thin saddle that is combined with a horses saddle, making the best of both." She said

Tirr mirrored Mialöldrí's expression, mentally taking notes. Something pressed into his mind, and after a brief moment of alarm, he recognised the presence as Shrondurn.

'𝘈𝘴𝘬 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴', he prodded, '𝘕𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳. 𝘠𝘦𝘵 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳,'

'You trust her because she is an elf and you are a dragon,' Tirr thought back shortly. Shrondurn simply scoffed in response.

"Mialöldrí..." he sighed reluctantly, "Do you or Jedish know of the wispy things that have been appearing recently? I mean- I've never seen one, or any of their traces, but people talk."

Whispy things? Describe them?" Mialöldrí Said with a mixture of supprise and confusion. "What type of whisky thing?" She asked, glancing at Jedish to see if she knew anything about it

Tirr and Shrondurn exchanged an equally surprised and worried look. Tirr began to explain, Shrondurn attaching bits for him to add in where he could.

"They're like silver or gold- always shiny. Kinda like if you could keep fog in one place or a massive spiderweb flickering in the light. Nobody ever mentions any sound, one second they're there and then they aren't.", he paused as Shrondurn murmured something in his mind, "Oh! Yeah, thanks. Shrondurn says that he's seen the aftermath while flying. They leave like, fragments of themselves or something. He says it distorts the area, changes it up. Animals avoid them too- Shrondurn says it gives him a weird feeling, like being feverishly itchy? But not on his scales, in his mind- like he's being picked at and."

Tirr and Shrondurn twitched once, in unison, a frighting chill creeping in on them. "People say that things follow them too, creatures unlike anything- not even dragons. Everyone sort of thought the elves would know something, I just thought I'd ask..."
