-LOCKED - Rumble Marking Clarification | |
Posted on 2020-05-05 15:40:51
Rumble MarkingsAs per our last news post, we would like to give you an update on the status of the rumble markings. We have had a small number of threads over the past few days pop up discussing this marking with comments ranging from dislike of the marking, to the marking making them feel uncomfortable, to the marking having the potential to cause a seizure. We take comments like this very seriously and went further to investigate this. Today, we sought legal clarification over the marking. We have been advised that we are compliant and meet all legal requirements and there is no reason that the marking should be removed from the game or that any additional warning notice needs to be given out. Additionally, the marking itself was not flagged as a typical risk. However, we have decided to go above and beyond the requirements and have added a warning to our Terms of Service. This also concerns user submitted content. Users can display content of their choice (within reason, and assuming it complies with our Terms and Code of Conduct) on their den pages, in their avatars, lion bios, topic posts, etc. Most of these are not moderated in advance, and only when they are reported to us, so we feel it is now prudent to include this warning in our terms regardless. We must ask that if you have noticed any adverse effects while accessing Lioden at any point, to discontinue use of the site immediately and seek medical help from a physician. Rumble markings are now back on the site and the applicator has returned to Vashkartzen’s reputation shop. We will be keeping them in the second, revised version that was posted recently. Rather than discuss this ad nauseum, we have made a final decision, and we will not be accepting any new suggestion threads, petitions or campaigns for the marking to be removed or adjusted. The marking can be discussed, but when the discussion descends into fighting, disrespect or bashing of the site and staff, you will be asked to stop discussing it. Failure to comply will result in action taken against your account. This is the same as any other topic discussed on Lioden. Due to some of the conduct on the site from a small minority of players recently, we feel that we need to remind users of the Terms of Service point 6.2.b: “You also agree that you will not in connection with the Game: publish or send any Content (including links or references to other content), or otherwise behave in a manner, which: is defamatory, threatening, harassing, invasive of privacy, offensive, vulgar, racist, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, sexually suggestive, misleading, abusive or deceptive or which attacks sexual orientation, promotes self-harm or eating disorders, involves murder, rape, suicide, terrorism, excessive gore or hacking;” ChatIn light of recent events, we've implemented a filter in the chat room. Certain words and/or phrases are now blocked, and attempting to use them will result in you being timed out from posting in chat for 60 seconds. Intentionally attempting to get around this filter will result in actions being taken against your account, as the filter itself contains very serious words and phrases that we have never allowed to be used. Staff members are now able to timeout players for 60 seconds as well, to assist with anyone that is intentionally causing issues in chat. Please continue to flag and report inappropriate messages as you see them, however. Along with this chat update, we have also implemented a way for players to disable the visual ping effects. You can find this toggle under the gear settings in chat. This toggle is stored to your account and carries over through devices. You can turn on and turn off ping effects as necessary. Admin Edit: Main Chat will remain paused for the rest of the day. We will look into unpausing Main Chat during EU morning hours. Thank you for your patience. 2 players like this post! Like? Is there a list of these banned words? I would hate to accidentally say one, unless they're very obvious words that no-one would say without bad intentions (like racial slurs or something D: yike) Admin Response: Racial slurs, vulgar comments, anything we did not allow before is now not able to be posted unless someone intentionally tries to get around the filter. 0 players like this post! Thanks for running it through a test for usual seizure triggers. It does somewhat help to know, despite the occurrence of pre-seizure symptoms it doesn't test as a trigger. It is not real cool that, with quite a few users telling you it causes issues, that the first instinct is to cover your legal butts instead of listening and compromising. 2 players like this post! I thought this community is amazing when I came here a month ago. Now I see that many people here shouldnt be here. If you have any health issues from this game (which Im not sure how it is possible from a normal marking), then just leave. Wheres the problem? 0 players like this post! Like? |

i really do appreciate the thought that you have taken into this, but it doesnt work. people cant just turn and say to their seizures, hold up, you cant happen right now. im actually disgusted and disappointed with the way that this had been handled. it would have been easier just to remove the mark fully to prevent shit like this happening in the future. and on the note of people saying "oh they must be faking". do you know how disrespectful it would be to go out of your way to fake having an illness. i dont think they would do that, especially over something as serious as this. as said before, do you really care about squiggles on a virtual screen more than your users health? 2 players like this post! Thanks for the update, lioden, and thanks for the ToS update! (Maybe next time, say that it's right at the bottom of it, though-) Though I do have a few concerns about this. It isn't just as easy to just know which lions have the rumble marking. And when people do see it, they can't just go "Whoops, time to close out of the page!" They will still be bothered by it. And it is unfair to the people of lioden who do have seizures from looking at the mark, for the ToS to tell them to scram if they have symptoms. And for the people who think that the minority of people who wanted the mark to go just disliked it, they physically feel ill from it. It isn't really a matter of liking it or disliking it anymore. If you could survive without rumble before, then you won't die without it. On a lighter note, thanks for being calm about this situation, mods! 1 player likes this post! Like? I'm also no longer going to spend money on your game. This treatment of a very real medical problem is unacceptable. 1 player likes this post! Like? |

People saying to just leave don't understand that people have communities they care about and lions they have grown attached to. Lets try to understand both ends of this instead of just telling people who don't like it to 'just leave'. 1 player likes this post! Like? |

deleting all the negative comments aight can't face how badly this issue was handled. prioritizing a few children over the mass community over health issues. real health issues, where life and death is on the life. telling people to "just leave" if they can't handle it. that's a good way to drive off a huge portion of your userbase. this is my last comment, but I want to make it clear. this is DISAPPOINTING as hell. 2 players like this post! I think the thing with Rumble and the new warning is very much fair. However, I disagree with the addition of chat filter, and will continue to disagree with it in spite of its arguable necessity until it is made certain that only the worst of profanities and profanity-adjacent terms will ever be in the filter, and that it shall not, or even cannot, be abused with additions to the filter of otherwise-valid terms just because the mods are tired of people whining about a recent Staff action or a new slightly-gross-looking decor or something else that is equally petty. Striking words from the speech of one's subjects is not a power to be taken lightly. Admin Response: We have responded to similar comments multiple times in the news that it only blocks and does not allow racial slurs, vulgar comments, and anything highly illegal to be posted. 1 player likes this post! imagine blaming the player for a medical condition they cannot help, and telling them they need to stop doing something they enjoy, because we need to please a small group on the internet, instead of pleasing and tending to the entire community. bravo, you dun goofed. no ones happy. oopsy poopsy, now unmute me. the problem was "solved". 2 players like this post! Other users that can't simply "unsee" or "not see" the markings. To disregard people's health over some marking is unacceptable, and i'm just... shocked. Humanity has let us down once again. Please make a feature that makes it so blocked users' lions don't show up. I don't want to see everybody's rumble lions. At least take the consideration to make that for us. 1 player likes this post! It's unfortunate ya'll felt the need to keep something that causes distress to users rather than just removing and replacing the marking with something else. Seeking legal council over a stupid marking in a game seems excessive when literally the issue could have been resolved with a refund and/or swap. Not everyone would like the decision but you guys chose to keep something that was affecting players in extremely negative ways rather than implement a marking that some people might like and some might not but at least it would be SAFE. I do respect you guys and you do work hard, but I find this a ridiculous lack of listening to the genuine concerns of many and rather censor those with account impacts (the chat notice yesterday) for voicing their opinion and discussing an issue that affect more people than have come out about it. Thanks a lot guys. 1 player likes this post! Like? |

Seems fair honestly. Although I understand people not being happy with that decision it is still just a marking that can be mostly avoided and seems not all that popular as of currently. I would have liked it to change a little however it's still understandable and the final decision and I'm fine with it 0 players like this post! Like? |
