Rumble Markings

As per our last news post, we would like to give you an update on the status of the rumble markings.

We have had a small number of threads over the past few days pop up discussing this marking with comments ranging from dislike of the marking, to the marking making them feel uncomfortable, to the marking having the potential to cause a seizure. We take comments like this very seriously and went further to investigate this.

Today, we sought legal clarification over the marking. We have been advised that we are compliant and meet all legal requirements and there is no reason that the marking should be removed from the game or that any additional warning notice needs to be given out. Additionally, the marking itself was not flagged as a typical risk.

However, we have decided to go above and beyond the requirements and have added a warning to our Terms of Service. This also concerns user submitted content. Users can display content of their choice (within reason, and assuming it complies with our Terms and Code of Conduct) on their den pages, in their avatars, lion bios, topic posts, etc. Most of these are not moderated in advance, and only when they are reported to us, so we feel it is now prudent to include this warning in our terms regardless.

We must ask that if you have noticed any adverse effects while accessing Lioden at any point, to discontinue use of the site immediately and seek medical help from a physician.

Rumble markings are now back on the site and the applicator has returned to Vashkartzen’s reputation shop. We will be keeping them in the second, revised version that was posted recently.

Rather than discuss this ad nauseum, we have made a final decision, and we will not be accepting any new suggestion threads, petitions or campaigns for the marking to be removed or adjusted. The marking can be discussed, but when the discussion descends into fighting, disrespect or bashing of the site and staff, you will be asked to stop discussing it. Failure to comply will result in action taken against your account. This is the same as any other topic discussed on Lioden.

Due to some of the conduct on the site from a small minority of players recently, we feel that we need to remind users of the Terms of Service point 6.2.b:
“You also agree that you will not in connection with the Game:
publish or send any Content (including links or references to other content), or otherwise behave in a manner, which:
is defamatory, threatening, harassing, invasive of privacy, offensive, vulgar, racist, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, sexually suggestive, misleading, abusive or deceptive or which attacks sexual orientation, promotes self-harm or eating disorders, involves murder, rape, suicide, terrorism, excessive gore or hacking;”

Chat

In light of recent events, we've implemented a filter in the chat room. Certain words and/or phrases are now blocked, and attempting to use them will result in you being timed out from posting in chat for 60 seconds. Intentionally attempting to get around this filter will result in actions being taken against your account, as the filter itself contains very serious words and phrases that we have never allowed to be used.

Staff members are now able to timeout players for 60 seconds as well, to assist with anyone that is intentionally causing issues in chat. Please continue to flag and report inappropriate messages as you see them, however.

Along with this chat update, we have also implemented a way for players to disable the visual ping effects. You can find this toggle under the gear settings in chat. This toggle is stored to your account and carries over through devices. You can turn on and turn off ping effects as necessary.

Admin Edit: Main Chat will remain paused for the rest of the day. We will look into unpausing Main Chat during EU morning hours. Thank you for your patience.

Okay... I have been keeping an eye on the thread here. What if people are lying about the seizures? Have you ever thought about that? You don't know what the staff really has done behind the scenes. You weren't there. So, you have no right to be mad at the mods and staff for doing what they believe is fair. I don't care for Brawl but I don't bitch about it. Not everyone is gonna be able to be pleased! They are doing what they can for the community as a WHOLE! They know they'll lose some players but they can't control those people.

I'll try my best to give my 2 cents without coming out as biased or throwing more fuel to the fire (also forgive my poor english it's not my 1st language)

I really think people are trying to make a simple marking sound worse than it actually is and i'm just glad it wasn't removed regardless of how you find it.

Obviously, things like epilepsy should be taken seriously and i don't know how easy something like that would be to program, but i guess an option to have the marking appear invisible to some user would be welcome.

Still, i see how the team came to the conclusion. You can't really account for EVERYONE, as sad as it is. Sure, you can do a little, as they are doing by banning hateful comments, but everyone is going to find a new problem. Keep in mind that there are still people who planned to get the applicator and use it. Downright removing it would be a real blow to the users that are devoting time to this site.

And i think it's easy to avoid seeing the marking in the first place. I honestly don't get why people are so mad. Disapointment is one thing. But screaming "betrayal" when you don't get what you asked feels just a little childlish.
(ok, i'm done now, again sorry for the rant and obviously i'd understand if the mods removed/edited this post but i'm glad i was able to vent it out)

The least the mods could do is give an option to visually turn off marks, so they can still be in game but those affected by it aren't forced to see it.

I feel like this was handled very poorly.

So how are we supposed to know what's filtered and what's not? We're all supposed to be adults here and this chat filter seems really backwards and unnecessary.

Also although I'm not personally affected in a serious manner by Rumble other than it making me dizzy if I look at it for a long while, I think it's irresponsible for the LD team to take people's responses lightly and continue to push forth a marking that's not necessary. We already have plenty of new eyes and bases for this month, and the odd need to push this on on players who have clearly stated it's caused them medical issues is disgusting.

A toggle, perhaps for the marking would be a better fix, rather than spending this time "lawyering up" and adding a protection in the TOS for the game and the ADMINS instead of the PROTECTING THE PLAYERS, many of whom spend real life currency on supporting this game.

Telling people to stop playing the game is not a solution, it's taking the easy way out, and it honestly feels like you do not care about the players who help keep this game running. I'm confused about the odd need to keep this marking around, and as someone who's been a part of the LD community and spent money on this game since 2013, I'm appalled and disappointed in this being the final response.

Yo genuine question & suggestion: why would you make it so that players have to accept a ToS change before continuing to play the game, but not state that change before they accept it, and instead make them search through the entire ToS looking for something that changed?

Maybe next time along with the “please accept the new ToS” message, you could put something below that actually points out the change?

That legal and medical advice seems completely in-line with what I've seen on other sites so it sounds fair enough to me as the way to handle it on LD also.

I appreciate the new chat features too, especially the ping toggle.

SUGGESTION FOR FILTERING MARKS

https://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429397362

Can't post this in main chat because it's paused

It's not specifically about the new marking but it might help people and epileptic users when searching for lions

Legality isn’t always equal to morality and this is one of those cases. I was always indifferent about rumble but once I found out that it was causing some players issues I was hoping to see it gone. It’s sad that a not particularly pleasing marking is being valued above players with health problems, but there we go. Quite disappointed in the response overall.

How immature do yall have to be to think people are lying about seizures. There's supposed to be a rule against people under 16 on this site.

I have seizures, It is the bright flashing ones or moving one, It is the focus things and all, pretty much depends on your health for that day and all.. I myself have had absolutely no problem what so ever from the rumble at all. so I have no idea as to what the heck all this stuff this is that all they are talking about :)

I appreciate the hard work to fix this, I really do.
But just because it's legally the right thing to do so you don't get sued doesn't mean it's the best thing for your players. It's just disappointing that instead of caring about people with seizures & other ailments triggered by rumble you just made sure that when they did have physical issues from seeing the marking that they can't sue you. I really, really wish that the marking could have been spread out a little! I think that would have made it an even better marking & fixed 99% of the issues :( there's a reason there has been so much uprising against this marking in chatter and Main Chat. It's because real players are having issues that are possibly life threatening even with faded edges of the design. It's the sharp zigzags that are causing problems, not the far out edges so it hasn't been fixed in either of the two updates about it.
