Palewind

The she cat turned around.” That’s a great start Mudpaw, now see if you can spot any prey.” She stated crouching down to not scare off any prey nearby. The she cat let her mind drift back to the border, she had wanted to go there to see if there was a chance that Gentlebreeze was nearby. Truth be told that medicine cat truly lived up to her name, to Palewind she was so nice and sweet. She saw the she cat as a friend and was concerned when she didn’t return but she doesn’t quite recall if she had smelled if she had crossed back over the border.

Cicadapaw nods, glancing at the ground to make sure she hadn't tracked muddy paws into camp. Granted it was overall a bit damp everywhere, so her tracks probably wouldn't show - didn't hurt to be cautious though.

"You're right, thanks Nettlesnap!" It was probably a bit confusing to thank him out of nowhere, but surprisingly, talking to him had gone well. The light conversation had been nice, and she felt less weighted down.

Scooping the bird back up so it doesn't get too messy, she bounds off, dropping it in the fresh kill pile before trotting to somewhere more dry; plopping down to clean her paws properly.

Hawktalon

She nodded to Owlstar. She figured he wanted to see how Sootpaw's fighting skills are like. "Not a bad response." She saw Sootpaw's ears perk and his eyes sparkle, but she wanted to be honest with him. "However, you'll still need to prove you're able to fight. I'll be honest with you now; you have to be willing to be loyal to Pineclan if he accepts you. Don't make me look like a mouse brain for vouching for you." She said, her tone serious. Sure he was her brother, but she left Shadowclan before she knew he existed. All of this was formality, as she wanted to make up for not being there for him, and to add a potentially helpful cat to the clan. "Don't ruin this." Her amber gaze bore into Sootpaw's golden eyes. Her position as senior warrior was probably on the line. She left Sootpaw to do whatever within the camp, as she went to tend to fixing the dens. Even if he was blood, she would put Pineclan first if the situation arises.

Sootpaw

He listened to Hawktalon's words, unable to think of anything to say in response. All he could do was listen, and nod. As she went off, he sat there for a moment. He looked at Owlstar. Was he going to be expected to spar with the Leader? He huffed, trying to think of ways that wouldn't make him look like he was too dirty of a fighter. He's killed rogues before, but he would have to tone his fighting down a bit to not seem like too much of a threat. As these thoughts raced through his head, he went to grab a vole, going to a spot where the sun was shining to eat.

Aureum

She saw Toby beckon her closer. She leaped onto the fence, following him. Her thin sharp claws scratched against the wood as she did. Her ears immediately lowered at the sight of the other cat. He was huge! He was most definitely three times her size. The fur along her back ruffled, and obvious hostility and fear brewed in her eyes. The young feline stared at the huge cat, her pupils huge and eyes wide. Her fur puffed up, making her look like those weird things her housefolk used to clean the ledges on the hard clear stuff in her nest. Her claws dug into the wood beneath her.

Aureum's body was tense, as she stood unmoving on the fence.

Gentlebreeze

She was deep in her clan's territory, and had already rolled in plenty of mint patches. Gentlebreeze held a few catmint leaves. She was low on catmint, and saw a patch growing. Might as well get some needed herbs, right? Her pink paw pads flashed with each step. She can smell Palewind, Mudpaw, and Cicadapaw. They must've passed by recently for a patrol. The scent was still somewhat fresh so they probably walked through here not too long ago.

...

Gentlebreeze spotted the camp entrance. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the questions. The medicine cat already knew the first thing her clanmates would ask. 'Where were you?' A slight smile formed on her muzzle. She knew them all too well. Her good mood faded when she realized she'd have to explain to Owlstar. He wouldn't let her slink by with a measly excuse. Yet she couldn't tell him the truth either. She would have to figure it out later. Gentlebreeze would not say a peep about Toby. Owlstar was not fond of kittypets at all. One whiff and he already has his teeth bared. The medicine cat lifted a paw.

The entrance of the camp rustled as she padded into the clearing.

Mudpaw

Mudpaw nodded as he lifted his head, his small nose focusing on finding a scent within Palewind and his sorroundings, it should smell the same as fresh-kill in the pile. Suddenly, Mudpaw flinched, mouse! He quickly crouched mimicking the warrior. "I scented a mouse around here Palewind, what's next?" Mudpaw whispered to her. His small ears still flattened and his tail touching the ground.

Owlstar
He had slipped into the shade of his den, green eyes glinting in the shadows. It wasn't nearly as bad as he and thought, but he'd definitely have to change it later. At least the stone beneath his paws was mostly dry, even though not a single ray of sunlight had warmed the cold earth. Instinctively, he shook his paws a little as he began to pick some of the damper bits of moss, flicking little bits of dirt away. His paws hadn't gotten nearly quite as muddy as most cats, considering he had spent most of his day so far in camp, but he preferred to keep himself clean. Deciding he had to suck it up, Owlstar picked up the small bundle in his jaws, already wrinkling his muzzle at the earthy, almost muddy tase. Best to be this over with. As he left the den, he noticed Cicadapaw, standing rather disgruntledly over by Nettlesnap, seemingly annoyed with something that had happened. Probably while she was on patrol, judging by the bird that lay by her paws.

Should he look into it? Hopefully it was just something to do with another apprentice, or something of the kind. More of a job for her mentor. With a slight flick of his tail, he left camp through the side exit, a gap in the undergrowth that lead to the dirtplace. Avoiding the dirtplace tunnels, he walked a little ways away, before tossing the damp bedding into the undergrowth. It was a quick walk back to camp, only delaying to grab a little extra moss along the way. When he slipped back into camp, he noticed Cicadapaw grooming the mud from her paws, looking a lot more relaxed. That problem seemed to have mostly delt with itself, at least. It took a bit to reassemble his nest, and when he left his den once more, he had a few small strands still stuck in his claws. Noticing that the meeting tree seemed to be mostly dry, he leapt atop it, stretching out as he lounged in the dappled sunlight, tawny brown fur practically glowing.

A quiet purr escaped him as he looked up at the sky, the beautiful deep blue speckled with the occasional cloud. It felt like he could lay here for moons, simply soaking up the sun, and watching the pine trees gently sway with the wind. The camp was peaceful, quiet, and it seemed that for the moment, everything was going well. A few more moments passed in relative silence, as Owlstar let his mind wander, thinking of nothing in particular. A rustle at the entrance of camp gave him cause to roll over, thinking Palewind had finally made it back to camp. When he saw Gentlebreeze's flame pointed pelt, however, his eyes narrowed slightly, and all traces of playful relaxation had all but bled away. As the clan's only medicine cat, Gentlebreeze could probably match his deputy in status, if not Owlstar himself. That still didn't excuse her vanishing from camp overnight. Getting to his paws, he lept off the fallen tree, moving towards Gentlebreeze with a casual gait, only the slight stiffness in his whiskers and tail betraying his annoyance. He wanted to see what, if anything, she would say to her clanmates before greeting him.

Toby
He shifted slightly, feeling a tad unnerved by the other cat's unblinking stare. He had been mostly joking to himself when he had compared the other tom to a small dog, but the stranger towered over him, and it clearly wasn't just the thick fluffy fur contributing to the tom's bulk. Aureum scrabbling up the fence behind him provided a welcome momentary distraction, allowing himself to regain more of his confidence. "A few moons ago? I didn't hear any of those big monsters that usually come by when housefolk change nests." He had settled a bit more comfortably on the fence, able to relax a little, in no danger of taking an embarrassing tumble off of the edge. The other tom looked to be having a little trouble, though.

Remembering the other tom's words from before, Toby replied, "If you're looking for another cat, Aureum's right over here. She's from the other nest over there though. I'm the only cat my housefolk have." A slight amount of smug pride glimmered in his eyes on his last words. He never understood the cats who let their housefolk get another cat. It could definitely lead to friendship, but Toby had too often seen such things turn sour rather quickly. He groomed one of his paws a little with a few quick swipes of his raspy tounge, keeping a casual eye on the other tom. "My name's Toby, by the way."

Palewind

"Creep up as quietly as possible, and then jump when you think the time is right." She stated watching Mudpaw as she stayed crouched down low. The she cat intensely watched the mouse hoping Mudpaw would be able to catch it. She waited eagerly for the young tom to make his move. She remembered catch her first prey and it felt wonderful, how proud you feel of yourself when you do so. She wanted Mudpaw to feel the same pride catching that mouse.

Jay

He curls his tail underneath his paws, flicking his gaze between Auream and the neighbour cat. The new cat was tiny, and she looked terrified. The tom tilted his head and stared at her, not quite sure what her panic was about. He briefly looked over his shoulder in case anything was behind him then whipped his head back to face the weirdly small neighbours, deciding the older cat was the easiest to talk to. 'My housefolk's monster is very quiet, maybe that's why.' Jay meowed, a hint of confusion in his voice.

His browed furrowed as he listened to the tom's explanation, whiskers twitching with growing doubt. 'Really? There was another cat here earlier..' He trailed off, beginning to think it was just the mouse his housefolk gave him playing tricks on his mind. Jay nodded, murmuring Toby's name under his breath to remember it. Toby. What a weird name. 'I'm Jay. Nice to meet you Toby.' The large tom attempted a smile, his tail flicking back and forth like how a dog would show excitement.

“Got it.” Mudpaw whispered, carefully following the scent. He maintained a low posture, cautiously placing his paws to avoid startling his prey.

Nervous and uncertain, Mudpaw remained motionless, fearing the possibility of failure. He didn't want to disappoint Palewind and the other cats. Pushing these thoughts aside, he refocused on the mouse, slowly inching closer until he stopped.

Without hesitation, Mudpaw lunged at the mouse, causing it to react and flee. Despite its attempts to escape, Mudpaw managed to keep up with its fast pace. The mouse changed directions multiple times, but Mudpaw persisted in following it. He attempted to bite the mouse, but it evaded his grasp. Clumsily, he used his claws to try and catch it, slightly touching its soft belly, causing the mouse to slow down. Seizing the opportunity, Mudpaw bit the mouse successfully, causing it to struggle underneath him. The mouse went for his muzzle and bit it back.

Mudpaw groaned, feeling a sharp pain from the bite on his muzzle. Instinctively, he endured its feeble attempts until it eventually went limp.

Regardless, his first hunt was a triumph. Proudly, he puffed out his fur and sprinted towards Palewind. Filled with joy, his eyes sparkled and his tail swished happily as he presented the mouse to her.

“We did it! Thank you, thank you, thank you Palewind!” he exclaimed gratefully. This moment would be cherished for the rest of his life. However, Mudpaw winced as drops of blood fell from his muzzle, mixing with the scent of the freshly killed mouse.

Gentlebreeze

She ignored her clanmates, who had begun to stare at her. Gentlebreeze risked a glance and saw Owlstar. The annoyance was clear as day. His whiskers and tail were stiff. Becoming a medicine cat, she easily recognized body languages. Owlstar's body language signaled he was not happy with her. Gentlebreeze looked back down at her paws, trying to avoid him. The flame-pointed siamese lowered her ears. She did not want to have to explain to her leader. She was never good with speaking to higher ranking cats. They intimidated her, and seemed to always get the truth out of her. Gentlebreeze was not looking forward to saying a peep to Owlstar.

The medicine cat glanced up for a second and saw her den. She hurried her pawsteps slightly, wanting to get away from the interested and questioning eyes from the camp. Especially from Owlstar's suspicious gaze. She bit down more on the catmint in her jaws, barely realizing the leaves were beginning to slip. Her tail twitched self consciously, betraying her uncertainty.

Gentlebreeze hurried more as the scent of herbs wafted her. She hurried into the dimly lit den.

Palewind

The she cat rose to her paws smiling at Mudpaw.” Nicely done Mudpaw!” She stated smiling.” Why don’t we go back and get that bite looked at and you can show Cicadapaw your mouse.” She stated wanting the Tom to be able to share his happy moment with his friend. She kept it to herself but was a little irritated she had wanted Cicadapaw to stay and watch Mudpaw and celebrate his catch with him but she had gone back to camp. Probably going back there and gossiping about me or something’ she thought to herself

Nettlesnap

Everything happened a little fast and he was still trying to figure out why Cicadapaw had thanked him before the sound of pawsteps once again caught his attention. The creamish coat of the medicine cat caught in the corner of his eye before she vanished into the den in mere moments. Why was she in such a hurry? Curiosity nipped at his mind and he opened his maw slightly to taste the air, hoping there'd be any clues for where Gentlebreeze had been. The tom curled his upper lip in disgust at the thick herb scent he had subjected himself to almost immediately, being forced to stop his little investigation.

Nettlesnap huffed softly, his intrigue dying down. He turns his gaze to Owlstar for just a moment, attempting to see the leader's reaction to the medicine cat's sudden return. Palewind would be happy when she got back atleast.
He never found himself interested in clan blood's mousebrained drama and roles, it was all too complicated. But the medicine cat was acting suspicious, and he had nothing else to do anyways.

Mudpaw
Mudpaw happily nodded and followed Palewind with his head held high, proudly carrying his first fresh kill back to the Clan. Mudpaw was grateful to Palewind for giving him the first opportunity to hunt and had developed a more deep respect for the warrior.

“I can't wait to see how the others would react when we get back to the camp! I wonder what kind of prize you'll be getting too?" He paused before continuing.

“Come on Palewind! We should hurry!" He eagerly urged her, his tail still held high and swishing back and forth. Even though his small muzzle was hurting, the scent of blood still lingered. Mudpaw ignored the pain, fueled by the excitement of returning to camp with his first prey.

Palewind

The she cat nodded with a smile and followed after the apprentice.” I’m sure Cicadapaw will be proud of you.” She stated as she trotted along. When they reached camp she felt Crowflights eyes land on her as she gently nudged Mudpaw encouraging the Tom to go find his friend and show her his catch. She wanted Mudpaw to have that moment when his friend was proud of him.

Mudpaw

The two finally arrived at the camp, he gave a quick nod to Palewind and joyfully bounced off, searching for Cicadapaw inside the camp. His small head turning around left and right until he spotted her near the pile, he dashed towards the apprentice, fresh kill still dangling in his mouth.

“Hey! We're back! Look what I've caught Cicadapaw!” He eagerly put down the mouse and showed it to her. His tail swinging back and forth in excitement for his first hunt. His muzzle twitched, still oozing small drops of red liquid. “Well it did hurt, but it was worth it. “ He added.
