-LOCKED - September Feedback
Posted on 2024-09-14 14:07:00
We've heard your feedback and we're sorry we dropped the ball here.

* Ochre Powder, along with all Treasure Hunting special use items, will be included in all iterations of the event.
* Each Treasure Hunting event will have themed decorations and backgrounds that will only appear in that version of the event (e.g. Drowned decorations will not appear in January, etc.).

A note on the September event encounters: we have had reports that there are fewer encounters showing up this year, and fewer Jewel Beetles being given out. We have investigated multiple times throughout the start of the month and have yet to find any evidence in the code that there is anything blocking the occurrence of event encounters. We are continuing to look into these reports, but so far have not experienced the issue ourselves through multiple tests.

It is important we clarify that Siren's Call was not introduced as an attempt to monetise a bug, as some have claimed, but that we wanted to offer some items to further customise the experience of explore by increasing the standard rates and decreasing rates of other encounters, such as beetle larvae.

While we appreciate the feedback of our players - both long-term and newer - please remember that we are a small team of developers, and we are human. We try our best to listen to you, sometimes we miss the mark and we will try to correct it where we can. We definitely do not intend to ignore you. Mistakes will be made, and we are sorry for that.

We would kindly ask that you try to temper any feedback you give - reading responses in ALL CAPS and with a scathing/spiteful tone can be disheartening at best. We generally are very open to making changes, but we need to keep a collaborative and constructive spirit.

To provide an update on promised features:
* Another mutation, the Primal variant based on the Ennedi Tiger, is on track to be released during Black Friday.
* Mutation decor conversions were pushed back due to prioritising other things, but are still in the works, and we hope to release them in early 2025.
* The Spirited pose is on track for a Winter 2024 release.
* The recode is currently delayed due to server shenanigans earlier in the year that are still somewhat ongoing.
* We're starting to work on the raffle lioness system changes that were mentioned in Community Update #238: implementing raffle studs and adding a confirmation system that will reroll the winner if the original winner doesn't claim her for 30 days.

Hello,

We ask that all players remain respectful towards one another when posting on our site. We ask that players refrain from using passive aggressive remarks against others on the site, even if not directed towards a specific person. Furthermore we do ask that if you're having issues with another player that you block them and utilize the Modbox should you believe a rule has been broken.

Thank you!

Just wanted to stop by and say-

Devs, Mins, and Mods yall are doing a great job and I'm sure there are quite a number of us that do realize life happens and there are conversations and decisions being made behind the scenes that we aren't privy to. Which is normal- for any game in the history of the world. LD is the most frequently updated game I've played in a very long time with one of the most responsive staff teams I've encountered.

Offline life is busy and messy these days. Our beloved game isn't exactly something that is easy to maintain, one idea takes countless hours of art (if required) and coding to implement. Time is a finite resource and im sure yall all have things going on outside of our very niche world here- be it a job, kids, school, family or otherwise.

We see you, and we appreciate yall and the work being done to give us new content. 🫶🏼

this is a great update to wake up to, thank you staff for reconsidering <3
I can get my projects back out of the freezer lol-

I'm sorry some of the comments got too emotionally heightened. There's a difference between constructive and nonconstructive feedback, and the former is much more likely to get a good end result. It's definitely distressing seeing your ability to play a game you've put a great deal of time (and for some folks money) into impacted when staff fail to consider the weight of a gameplay change, but an emotional response is often a less effective one, and there's nothing wrong with stepping away for a bit to organise your thoughts on things. The contrast was definitely felt more because there has been really good, thoughtful decision-making for the last few months, which personally has renewed my interest in the game! I'd previously just decided on trying for a new project in november rather than hiatusing til january because of it, actually.

Very excited to see where things go with the RL update, the jaglion event was a great experiment and gave good feedback on what was and wasn't enjoyable, the september decor/bgs price reduction has been requested basically since the event started (and I do remember when the cub decors were originally reduced from being more expensive than the breeding items!), the plans for varied end-of-month mini-events sounds interesting. The Drowned variation on Treasure Shop aesthetic items is a surprise but a great one, and I look forward to stocking up on those as well as the useful items ^^

The response time on this and transparency on future goals makes me hopeful for better communication and feedback with the community (which was really worked for with the RL update as well!) and a better all-round experience going forward.

~~~
Also anecdotally - I do not feel there's been any meaningful change to the JB droprates? I try and record my daily beetle grind for my own tracking/purchasing goals with events, and it looks to be about equal to last years ^^
It is worthwhile checking the wiki to make sure you're giving the best responses for explore encounters (and maybe choose when to explore - some good encounters are night-only, and others wet-season only) as that can add-up over time! Taking advantage of the boosts and synergies available - bone marrow, gorilla enclave energy reward, red bull/roasted lambs, hyena butter, the harbinger daily quest rewards as well as using a timer to check in once an hour or so - can help immensely. But September has always been a lower droprate event compared to others.
Siren's call may be added to that item list, but like coffee beans, it looks to be better suited to 'denser' events like feb/may/october when energy boost/meat pie-based exploring rather than red bull/roast lamb runs is more efficient to do, but will have to experiment with it to see ^^
Only once a year was a good compromise, because it spreads marks *too* easily.
Please at least NERF it - either double the price or half the effectivenes? Please, I am begging you here.
personally, i think ochre powders mechanics are fine as is . it's really only "overpowered" if you're strategically double powdering parents with matching marks and how often does that happen? that's really only a thing with RLC breeding and project breeding, and speaking from experience... you're still going to pay 1,000-1,500+ GB for a full BO project even with strategically buying buffalo scrotums and powders in season. it'll probably still be closer to 2,000+ GB if not more since my RNG was pretty kind :')
if you're in a position where it's worth double powdering both parents and getting the pay-off of the double effect, you've likely already made some pretty hefty investments in a RLC or your breeding project. and if you're not doubling up on the powders, it's really not that much of a difference from my experience. i've had ochre powdered RLCs pop out an entire potato litter, anecdotical statistics can really only get us so far
edit for clarification, i'm not implying ochre powders are not useful. they are so, so, so useful when you combine them with two project lions. i literally would not have gotten my project done in faster than 2-3 years if i didn't have this godsend of an item. but they're only that useful IF you're having every possible factor to duplicate chances... it's not the item making it "overpowered," it's the specific combo of doubling the item AND having two lions with specifically the same markings (and other traits if you're going for other BO traits), something that is both expensive and not easy. you're most likely not going to be duplicating lions with this item unless you are doing some other tom-foolery to boost your odds. in my opinion, casually using these to breed some more breed-only traits (which is how the majority of people use them tbh) is not going to tank the market because they're "too powerful." like i've said, these items really aren't that OP unless you're maximizing their use, which is only applicable in niche situations. however, these items are vital to some projects and nerfing them would just negatively impact those players.
NRLCs are already a plague on this site due to RLC kings - those kings produce way more NRLCs than powders do. BO marks just statistically will pass eventually with high BO kings, regardless of if someone uses a 15gb item to boost it slightly. i don't believe ochre powders will lead to the downfall of BO value or anything like that.
edit for clarification, they've been at 14gb at times since may (the original planned date for the next hunt) - i still think they'll have a nice return on investment for players just interested in flipping them. they were 18gb until recently when people dumped them quickly to get rid of them before they returned. that level of return on investment is well beyond what most breeding items achieve, for reference.
based on that, i'd guess they'll still be at least doubling in value out of season since last season they well over tripled in values at times. i'll take that over them being 25gb+ and project breeders having to fork over 50gb + a buffy every time they want to do a project litter with 2 powders. though i'll admit the first season was pretty speculative and it's pretty hard to predict lioden's broken economy tbh.
edit in response to nadir: i'm familiar with the passing rates, you're only jumping from 50% to 60% for each marking to roll if it's one powdered parent + one completely naked parent. it's both not OP enough to warrant changing imo and it also feels a bit late to change that. imagine you hiatused from lioden and your breeding project and came back only to realize the powders you bought/stocked up on suddenly help you half as much. i would be pretty disheartened if a change like that was added almost a year after the item was implemented.
some quick math for perspective for those who are unaware:
keep in mind, this isn't factoring in BO bases, mane types, & mane colors which will make your odds even worse. way, way worse if you want a special BO base or combo base.
** you have a .6% chance of getting all 10 marks from the king if you ochre powder a 10-marking king with a markingless lioness.
** you have a .09% chance of getting all 10 marks from the king if you just do a regular breeding with that markingless lioness.
you're still gambling on really small odds here, and personally i find that boost worth the cost of ochre powders. you're still going to be burning through a LOT of those powders before achieving a project goal most likely. i really don't want to have to spend 5,000gb on breeding projects :')
p.s. this math section is not directed at you nadir, i just thought it'd be helpful for other players not interested in busting out a calculator. some players may be aware of this math and still think the boost is too high, that's fine & you're entitled to your opinion.
not all projects are the same, sure, and others are just as valid as mine. i know some people who use powders more casually for just generally passing more BO marks or trying to pass a rosette from a hybrid better. i still feel like nerfing powders would just generally do more harm than good, for both specific projects and more general use. the breed only heir market is still profitable and i haven't personally found powders negatively affecting that, since you're still heavily relying on mane and base traits passing.
i’m not in favor of raising prices since people sometimes double-up on powders so they get used faster than say, a buffalo scrotum, which is already cheap in february’s shop and available multiple times a year (for two months rather than three 10 day increments). i also just don’t think they need adjusting for the previous reasons. i don't think the majority of lioden users would want this, nor would they benefit from this.
this became quite the yap-fest as i edited in clarifications to later comments i saw - hopefully it's helpful to explain my reasoning
To elaborate:
You don't need to use it on both. Like, I used a handful of these on my breeding project and it spread the raffle marks of my king to my markingless lioness like wildfire. I easily doubled my lions who had this on it, and that was without using buff balls on more than one of them.
The rate at which A Mark x A Mark breedings pass is already very high, and A Mark and No Mark breedings already roll pretty reliably if the marks are on the father - because father rolls first. Stud to a king with no marks and a base you want, and you've a pretty good chance of making them pass from what I seen.
Ochre then adds another 10% guarantee on top of that. That is a crazy boost on an item that's basically worth pennies.
Either halfing the rate it passes, or doubling the cost, would prevent this incredibly dirt cheap crazy breeding boost from over-saturating an already drowning market. Like the item itself being back in, isn't the issue. It's that it was added back in *unchanged*.
vertigoat 🦭 | 15BO vagabond (#120333) :: The 10% is a lot bigger than it sounds. RLC kings are a plague, yes - so we shouldn't be making it worse, until LD addresses king pass rates, right? There's actually been a lot of suggestions about fixing it - though haven't been mentioned.
Also RE: " it's really only "overpowered" if you're strategically double powdering parents with matching marks and how often does that happen? that's really only a thing with RLC breeding and project breeding [...]"
I have raffle marks I use items on, I just don't have an event mark bomb or RLC project I'm breeding. I am still part of the group that uses these items, even if my projects feel smaller. My valued marks are just different than yours.
for the past few days, i’ve been able to make 150jb at least in a day. granted, im on rather frequently throughout the day and rarely waste energy, ive been able to hit this goal. just thought it’s worth noting with the rates being brought up and all.
