-LOCKED - September Feedback
Posted on 2024-09-14 14:07:00
We've heard your feedback and we're sorry we dropped the ball here.

* Ochre Powder, along with all Treasure Hunting special use items, will be included in all iterations of the event.
* Each Treasure Hunting event will have themed decorations and backgrounds that will only appear in that version of the event (e.g. Drowned decorations will not appear in January, etc.).

A note on the September event encounters: we have had reports that there are fewer encounters showing up this year, and fewer Jewel Beetles being given out. We have investigated multiple times throughout the start of the month and have yet to find any evidence in the code that there is anything blocking the occurrence of event encounters. We are continuing to look into these reports, but so far have not experienced the issue ourselves through multiple tests.

It is important we clarify that Siren's Call was not introduced as an attempt to monetise a bug, as some have claimed, but that we wanted to offer some items to further customise the experience of explore by increasing the standard rates and decreasing rates of other encounters, such as beetle larvae.

While we appreciate the feedback of our players - both long-term and newer - please remember that we are a small team of developers, and we are human. We try our best to listen to you, sometimes we miss the mark and we will try to correct it where we can. We definitely do not intend to ignore you. Mistakes will be made, and we are sorry for that.

We would kindly ask that you try to temper any feedback you give - reading responses in ALL CAPS and with a scathing/spiteful tone can be disheartening at best. We generally are very open to making changes, but we need to keep a collaborative and constructive spirit.

To provide an update on promised features:
* Another mutation, the Primal variant based on the Ennedi Tiger, is on track to be released during Black Friday.
* Mutation decor conversions were pushed back due to prioritising other things, but are still in the works, and we hope to release them in early 2025.
* The Spirited pose is on track for a Winter 2024 release.
* The recode is currently delayed due to server shenanigans earlier in the year that are still somewhat ongoing.
* We're starting to work on the raffle lioness system changes that were mentioned in Community Update #238: implementing raffle studs and adding a confirmation system that will reroll the winner if the original winner doesn't claim her for 30 days.

The GMO Cow, Ochre Gnaw and Salt Lick are incredibly potent breeding items. They're valuable as heck, so they should be hard to get because they alter gameplay chances. We all have to prioritize what we want. I've bought exclusively GMO Cows and Gnaws, for instance.

Spaghetti code is slang for "poorly written / messy code". Depending who said it, it may have been an insult to the site's coders.

For more casual players/casual grinders, it probably feels immensely dissatisfying to get like 500-600 JB for the entire month and be able to either buy only 3-5 breeding items or even less in order to buy a couple wanted backgrounds or decor. Want to use 2 gnaws for one breeding to attempt to get a cool heir? There goes half of your entire month's haul on a single lioness.

I will say I am a heavy event grinder so I'm able to get enough to play around with some items without completely financially crippling myself, so this is really just assumption in terms of actual currency amounts that would be reasonable to attain with a lower activity level. But given that I went through about 30 gnaws and probably 10 saltlicks last year (on stupid lions that wouldn't pass their stupid bases) I'm rather hesitant to use many of these items this year because of how hard they were to get and how rare a successful breeding is going to be.

Gnaws seem to be 20-22 GB in season this year (and last year?) which is hard to justify spending unless you have a ton of currency set aside specifically for it, so for many people it just isn't possible to actually do much of anything with these items. Maybe people would feel more comfortable using them if they were a bit easier to get, which shouldn't inflate the number of them in the game too severely in the long run. I certainly feel better about using items that took less effort/money in season to get.

That said, I don't think the prices should change. Lowering them by 50 JB is a crazy high amount - that makes the Ochre Saltlick half of its current price and GMOs and gnaws 33% cheaper. That's huge. Event encounters just shouldn't be so rare - and there shouldn't be nearly half of them that give 0 currency. It simply feels unrewarding and disappointing to try and grind this month, and so many players get burnt out with hardly anything to show for it.

Maybe that's a good thing for the market. Less players grinding means less being sold. But man, it's just more fun to see people use gnaws and GMOs on their lions to see what'll happen rather than just sitting on them because they're too valuable to use! Like someone who has a set of fine china that sits in their cabinet forever. I want to use the fancy teacups :(

I am a casual player, myself, who sells to others. I want what little I can earn to be worth as much as possible. By requesting things be cheaper, yes we're making them easier to get, but we're also making people like me who farm them to sell for money to get us by have to work much harder to make sakes, because now people don't need to buy them.

I understand. I do. Everyone wants nice things to be easier to get. It can be hella discouraging. I'd like a jaglion to king, for instance, but I would never want them to be easier to breed, coz that'd make the price tank for everyone who works really hard on their jag projects.

I think that wanting prices to be lower is, for lack of a better word, selfish to our own needs and neglecting how others may need this to get to play how *they* want. I use the GB, and have no use for the item. It's a very delicate balance we need to be conscious of. Breeding muties is an expensive hobby. And I think we need to be okay with that.

About using them and solutions to encouraging more use:
I don't use the items myself, not because of price, but because I have poor luck and because LD won't disclose odds. I don't gamble. So I sell them. I don't like any of the September decors (I dislike animal decors, and most of this month is animals), so these are the only reasons I roll. I think if the devs revealed rates, people would feel a lot more comfortable using these and other breeding items.

I'd personally feel more comfortable using these items if I wasn't practically guaranteed to get a worthless mane mutation that I can't pose, can barely decorate and can't king or sell. That's what keeps them being worth anything to me. Even if GMOs were worth 5 GB a pop during the height of summer, I don't want a high chance of wasting a breeding on a shit mutie I can't use and won't like );

I think LD could use a lot more cool mutations we can king and pose that pass via GMO cow.
