-LOCKED - Hunting Changes - what is going on?
Posted on 2014-12-15 02:13:16
Greetings almighty lions,

We've had a recent development regarding hunting - and how stat inflation is being affected by the recent change in price for skipping hunts. Since we changed the price from 1GB to 100SB to skip a hunt, we've seen a couple of members go a bit crazy on spending. While I'm sure you've been enjoying this little loop hole, unfortunately this has to come to an end!

About a year ago we set out to make hunting fair and well-paced regarding giving out stats, and we reduced the stat rewards from randomly between 1-6 down to 1 stat per lioness per hunt. There were several complaints about this, as it took the fun and surprise out of hunting. Recently we gave you randomly an extra point! Yay! This alleviated some of the tediousness of sending your lionesses hunting only to get 1 measly point.

However, this alone made it possible for lionesses to get double what they were getting - from a solid 10 points per day (if you completed all 10 hunts, or more if you added hunts) to a potential 20 points per day (or more.. etc).

When we changed the price from 1GB to 100SB, some of you who had stockpiled your SB went on a spending spree and - by increasing the amount of hunts a lioness could go on in a day, while also skipping the hunting time - managed to raise 4 year olds to extremely high levels, with thousands and thousands of stat points.

This is something that we strived to avoid a year ago, and by being overlooked (by myself, primarily) it has allowed super-buffed lionesses back into the game.

So as a result, we have removed the ability to add extra hunts to your lionesses. You can still skip hunts and get your hunting results immediately, and it still only costs 100SB instead of 1GB.

Our reason for doing this, rather than reverting the cost of hunt skipping, is because we feel confident that you have enough to do as it is - you don't need to sit and worry about adding more and more and more hunts to your lionesses, just to stay competitive. Additionally, we feel that limiting lionesses to 10 hunts per day as standard will help to regulate the inflation of stats (whereas if you can still add hunts, you're still adding stat points). We also don't want this game to be pay-to-win (which it was when you could use a $0.50 in-game currency to skip your hunts while other members had to wait).

I'm sure a lot of you feel very strongly about this issue, and we'd like to invite you to express your feelings in the comments. But please keep in mind that we, as developers, are trying to do the best that we can for the game and for ALL members - not just the top 1% (;D). Or 5%, or 10%. We feel that this is a fair compromise. As always, if you want to express your opinions, please be respectful towards all the staff, and other members. We all have to get used to big changes which sometimes don't seem like they are for the best, but we promise we're trying to do everything we can to make things fair.

Finally, steroid lioness says thank you for feeding her stats over the past two weeks:

Sounds fair to me! I normally don't use the skip button much, only if I'm in much need for food, but I understand the problem ^^

I feel that the hunt skip feature is kind of useless when there's a strict limit on the amount of hunts. It's a waste of SB to even skip hunts now.
I would say up the amount of SB it costs to skip a hunt rather than limit them.
Personally I don't care, but I see how this change is annoying.

I do not like this update at all. In my main account I breed mainly for stats and while I rarely used the skip feature, I added a LOT of hunts to my girls. I spend much more SB on adding hunts than in anything else in my game. So I'm left with 18k SB on my hands since there is really no need to use them for I can easily get 10 hunts per day.

Not to mention that this is going to freeze everyone's play. One way or another we all are going to get our daily 10 hunts on a lioness and this is it. We are all going to get roughly the same amount of stats and exp whether we spend our whole day on LD or just 1 hour. So the lioness leaderboards will stay as they are now and unless a lioness dies no one new will get to it.

I would rather get rid of the skip feature and instead rewarding the patience of the player. Personally I get bored really easy and I find it hard to stay in a game if there's nothing for me to do. If I skip all my hunts and be done in an hour, what's left to keep me here and not go to another site with more things to do? Sub patrolling is only once per hour and exploring is done very quickly even if your enerhy is on 100%

I understand the need to make stat raising fair for everyone but I don't think this is going to help anyone. Those who couldn't get all the hunts will still be unable to do so. I don't know if I'm going to stay on LD if this change is here to stay. There's no purpose in my game now since I'm forced to stay in the same level as I am now. I never thought of leaving LD before. Not when the new hunting mechanics was introduced and not when the sub patrols where limited. There was always a way to get a bit more work done and get ahead but this can't be done now. My game is all about stats and that's what I care about. If I can't get better anymore I don't have a reason to stay.

I do understand why you made the change and I applaud your trying to fix it. It's become clear to me though through my own experiences over the last few weeks that no matter how hard I try, I do have a real life job and cannot spend every waking moment on this game trying to build the stats of lions/lionesses like some people apparently do. This really is a pay-to-win game. The only way to get GB is to pay for them with real money or earn enough SB to buy them. The only way to earn SB is to sell stuff or lionesses. But the markets are flooded with lionesses and I'm having to chase 500+ statted lionesses or sell them for lowball offers of 100sb. There is no way to compete with the older players. .... Seriously this has become a no-win situation, and those who exploited that little loophole are part of the reason why. I think I"m done with this game. No use spending money on a game that isn't fun anymore and no use playing a game where the playing field is so over-weighted that you can't win.

I only use 10 hunts per lion each day, i dont buy slots cause i have always thought of it like "cheating" in a way Oo I must say that i like this new change cause obviously some people just want to ruin the game experience. Sure i like stats as much as any other stat intressted liodenner, BUT i think and have thought that 2000 stats are more then enough when it comes to lionesses! When i see a 2000+ statter i think "wow awesome!" but when i see a 6000+ statter i just get sad for some reason >_>'' Just dont like it i suppose o3o Anyways good move admins =)

Maybe there could be like 2 options daily and you can change your option every day?

1 you can skip your 10 hunts

2 you wait the 30 mins and can add hunts to your lionesses but also have a limit on how many extra hunts you can add

That way people who don't have much time can skip them and more active users can add extra hunts?

Not sure if I worded that well

If you have 80 lions, then you can still send them all hunting. It's not like we've said you can ONLY send 5 lionesses on a maximum of 10 hunts per day. You can still hunt, with 80 lionesses, 160 times a day lol. And you can still skip ALL of those hunts if you want to.

Abbey,

I see a few things here that strike me as problematic.

1.) Changing the time skip feature allowed this to happen. The solution was to remove added hunts.

The reason I see this as a problem is because of the same reason other people have mentioned. It caps the potential of a lioness and causes the entire stat potential to be based primarily on birth stats and secondarily on luck from hunts. Nothing was done to correct the few people who managed to abuse the system and get these steroid lionesses. Instead, now there are a few 4 year old steroid lionesses out there going to be popping out babies for the next few months. Those people now have the market completely cornered because of the limitation, so they can charge extremely high prices for their cubs and people will pay it because they have the sole supply of them. This change only exacerbates this problem, not fixes it.

2.) The idea that people have enough to do and don't need to skip hunts to be competitive.

The problem I see with this idea is that now there is no competition, period. Birth stats will be the end all be all for a lioness to reach leader boards. There is no competition. People with money can buy the highest stat lioness cubs. People without money can't. Those cubs are going to sell for ridiculous prices because there is a very limited number of them now. No one can edge back in on the market. A year from now, the highest stat lionesses will still be the lionesses with the highest birth stats because of this change.

3.) The idea that now there isn't any stat inflation...

Right, there won't be any lioness stat inflation because this change effectively stagnates the lioness stat pool. Now it will feel more mandatory than ever to make sure you get on and spend 5 hours a day on Lioden if you're reaching for the leaderboards. You can't skip a day because you can't make it up tomorrow. It forces players to play long hours every day (or pay up to 1000 SB to skip the time requirement) without any forgiving nature. Before with added hunts, if you missed your 10 hunts one day, but had an extra 5 hours to spend the next, you could make up for it. Now you can't. If you miss a day, you lose between 10-20 stat points for your lioness's max potential, it basically means you have to decide,
"Do I have 5 hours to play LD today or do I have to skip my rollover"
and yes, if you are shooting for leaderboards and don't have the 1000 silver beetles to drop on your lioness, you DO have to make that decision. I cannot believe that is healthy for the game.

It really feels like the change from gold beetles to silver beetles to skip hunts was not very well thought out. You had to have known that there were extreme stockpiles of silver beetles in some people's pockets. To not see this coming was an oversight, but a forgivable one. It certainly feels that the change to remove added hunts is a worse oversight and goes against the nature of competition. If this change was intended to make it fair for everyone, it won't do that. Supply and demand are the keys to the economy and now the demand has just skyrocketed for the cubs of these steroid lionesses and the supply just got extremely limited. The rich just got richer and the poor just got stuck with another band-aid fix. Please reconsider this change and revert the time skip back to gold beetles and give us back our added hunts... The system was fair before the time skip got changed.

Honestly, what this has done is basically killed the competition markets. It's made it so those steroid lionesses now have no competition from players who can't buy GB and can't afford breedings to leader board lions, or cubs from leader board pairings. Removing add hunts, instead of upping the price of either add or hunt has capped all lionesses at earning a MAX of about 2k stats a lifetime. So if I am new and have a 100 stat lioness, she might get 2000 stats before she dies. If my king only has like 400 stats (as they earn stats slower) and I can't buy a breed to whoever is top king, I will never hit the leader boards. So, this change has effectively made 70% of lions on the game worthless.

Capping stats would not be an answer either, as you've yourself seen what that has done to the market on a certain other game.

Having a feature and people using it a lot is not abusing it or using a loophole, they were just using their means. This wasn't a glitch and it should have been seen beforehand. This is always an issue with sims, the rich have the best and everyone else feels it is "unfair".

I think that's fair! To be honest even with the skip I never had the time to use all 10 hunts in a day anyway since I work full time, but I LOVED the skip feature because it meant I can still get more hunts in than I normally would.

Fair enough!

^Doesn't the fact that you can only hunt every lioness 10 times clog the market even more, though? Let's say you have enough time in your day for 20 hunts for 5 lionesses.

Instead of having 5 lionesses you hunt 20 times, though, you have 10 lionesses you hunt 10 times.

Essentially bringing every lioness up to the same level - a standstill.

Selling lions is already hard enough. I've been here less than a week and I already see the issues with this.

I really don't think it's fair to say people trying to raise their lion's stats with grinding were trying to ruin the game experience.

It's not like they're twirling their mustaches with a sinister grin going "NYEHEHE I'LL RAISE MY LIONS STATS AND MAKE IT HARD FOR THE NEWBIES TO CATCH UP!"

And while I hardly used the feature I have to agree with those opposed to the change now that I read what they're saying. I feel a limit to how often you can skip per day would have been better.
