-LOCKED - Hunting Changes - what is going on?
Posted on 2014-12-15 02:13:16
Greetings almighty lions,

We've had a recent development regarding hunting - and how stat inflation is being affected by the recent change in price for skipping hunts. Since we changed the price from 1GB to 100SB to skip a hunt, we've seen a couple of members go a bit crazy on spending. While I'm sure you've been enjoying this little loop hole, unfortunately this has to come to an end!

About a year ago we set out to make hunting fair and well-paced regarding giving out stats, and we reduced the stat rewards from randomly between 1-6 down to 1 stat per lioness per hunt. There were several complaints about this, as it took the fun and surprise out of hunting. Recently we gave you randomly an extra point! Yay! This alleviated some of the tediousness of sending your lionesses hunting only to get 1 measly point.

However, this alone made it possible for lionesses to get double what they were getting - from a solid 10 points per day (if you completed all 10 hunts, or more if you added hunts) to a potential 20 points per day (or more.. etc).

When we changed the price from 1GB to 100SB, some of you who had stockpiled your SB went on a spending spree and - by increasing the amount of hunts a lioness could go on in a day, while also skipping the hunting time - managed to raise 4 year olds to extremely high levels, with thousands and thousands of stat points.

This is something that we strived to avoid a year ago, and by being overlooked (by myself, primarily) it has allowed super-buffed lionesses back into the game.

So as a result, we have removed the ability to add extra hunts to your lionesses. You can still skip hunts and get your hunting results immediately, and it still only costs 100SB instead of 1GB.

Our reason for doing this, rather than reverting the cost of hunt skipping, is because we feel confident that you have enough to do as it is - you don't need to sit and worry about adding more and more and more hunts to your lionesses, just to stay competitive. Additionally, we feel that limiting lionesses to 10 hunts per day as standard will help to regulate the inflation of stats (whereas if you can still add hunts, you're still adding stat points). We also don't want this game to be pay-to-win (which it was when you could use a $0.50 in-game currency to skip your hunts while other members had to wait).

I'm sure a lot of you feel very strongly about this issue, and we'd like to invite you to express your feelings in the comments. But please keep in mind that we, as developers, are trying to do the best that we can for the game and for ALL members - not just the top 1% (;D). Or 5%, or 10%. We feel that this is a fair compromise. As always, if you want to express your opinions, please be respectful towards all the staff, and other members. We all have to get used to big changes which sometimes don't seem like they are for the best, but we promise we're trying to do everything we can to make things fair.

Finally, steroid lioness says thank you for feeding her stats over the past two weeks:

I mentioned something along those lines Seven, Without additional hunts, now if I want to have any chance at leaderboard or high stat lionesses (which actually can't happen now until the current ones are dead... not matter how hard I try... unless they let them get old and send them to a freeze account, then they will never die) I have to ensure that I spend 10 hunts each day on the highest stat lionesses I have and hope for RNG. I can't just spend a weekend banging out hunts if I have the time. I can't do anything except pray that my RNG is better than other peoples. If I know I can't play long enough to get 10 hunts in, or pay the SB to speed through them, I lose that whole rollover because of this change. Now it is mandatory to do 10 hunts every day because you never get those back.

"To be honest, I also think this site and community encourages people who think they are entitled to get something for nothing simply because other people have it and they don't."

I have thought this for the longest time and someone actually said it.

Thank you Xylax for assuring us that our comments on this issue aren't falling on deaf ears! Lioden does a pretty good job of listening to it's users and we really appreciate that!

I could actually get behind the suggestion about stats not being inherited.

That way every single lion and lioness born on the site will be a new blank slate and if you want to get on the leaderboard, you'll have to work for it. Can't just work on a few lions and then breed buff cubs.
That also means there should be more ways to gain stats though.

Always love to hear that the game is done in everybody's best interests and pertaining to the hunt subject, I got to admit I didn't give a thought to it since I don't try to buff up my ladies. Now that it is addressed, I find it was a very smart move to try to decrease this steroid usage lol *Claps loudly for the Lioden team :D *

Thanks for the update Xylax. :D We, as always, appreciate all of the things that all of the admins do for the site. Even if we don't always agree with the changes, we do appreciate that some things are being done to fix problems as they come up.

Although I can see your reasoning behind this change, if I had been able to change this myself, I would have reverted the actual feature of skipping the hunt itself, or taking it out completely, rather than removing a whole different, yet related feature.
With the skipping hunts feature, you could technically do an unlimited number of hunts a day if you were dedicated. And a lot of people were, hell if I wasn't so cautious about my spending I'd jump at the chance to spend 100 SB to get carcasses and 1-2 stats for all of the lionesses participant in the hunt. This means that the richest players, and the players who can get access to GB to trade for SB, could hunt, hunt, hunt until their 3- and 4-year-olds had a higher level than lionesses who had been hunting constantly their whole life. Boom. Lioden has become a pay-to-win economy.

Well, I'm glad that you addressed this issue before it could become more out-of-hand. But I'd just like to say, not every player on this game can afford to spend thousands and thousands of SB daily to skip hunts. However, (almost) every player CAN spend a small fee of 10 SB to give your lioness the chance to hunt one more time. Those that don't aren't as greatly effected as with skipping hunts; even if you stay up all day and all night just so your lions can hunt, you'd only be able to get 48 hunts in on one lioness a day. And that means only about 50-100 stats a day (a fraction of which don't pass down to cubs). Thus, it definitely is on a higher level than if you could only hunt a lioness 10 times a day /period/, but it still keeps things balanced (AND allows newer players to get high-statted lions faster, so long as they put in the effort)

I'm sorry if this seems to repeat what other players have said, because I unfortunately don't have the time to read through several pages of threads to confirm this; but I just wanted to make a few points on my opinion and hopefully help the staff in reaching a decision!

Getting rid of the skip hunts option would also help with the food market. Since the price has been lowered iIve had trouble selling any food at all, where as before the price change I could barely keep my branch stocked.

I personally think instead of removing the add hunts fee, add more to the skip hunting time. 200sb would be fine to do. Still within reachable for regular players, it'll help decrease inflation faster, and it just mean more work for those who are going to hunt/raise stats. It's a fair compromise.
