Lucifer||Female||3.5||Beta

She didn't move, not even to protect her if need be. The apprentice needed to learn, though she did wince when the hoof came mere centimeters from the pup. Her body swelled with pride once the deer stilled and Arielle expertly killed it. "Great job!" She said with a nod before raising her own muzzle and letting out a howl of victory. This hunt was not unlike her own first ones, one must learn early on to do such things no matter the rank they are to become. Her expression never dropped, the usually excluded beta rushing forwards to nuzzle the pup and smirk, "Your muzzle is drenched!" She smirked with a wag of her tail. This doe was a good catch and the apprentice finished her off without help from any of the adult wolves. This one is something special! Her mind swirled with thoughts, mostly of her old pack and her twin whom never seemed to leave the beta's mind. She sighed slightly, pushing the thoughts away, this was a time for celebration!!

Nova

Nova watched as Adsila crushed the windpipe of the buck beneath her teeth. It was hard work keeping the large creature immobile while she killed it and even with his size and strength, there were close calls. He narrowly avoided a swipe of the antlers when the buck tried to jerk its head back from her grip. Gradually the struggles grew weaker, which was lucky as the buck then managed to land a blow on Adsila. Nova winced and felt a momentary flash of concern but when the she-wolf didn't seem to be terribly injured he pushed the worry aside. There would be time for that later. Finally, the muscles beneath his paws went slack and a low rattling wheeze escaped the lips of the stag. It was dead. Nova opened his mouth, releasing the shoulder, and worked the stiffness from his jaw. That would ache later for sure. A few moments later his ears picked as Lucifer's howl pierced the air. The other hunt had been successful too! "Great work, kappa," he grinned to Adsila. For only two wolves this had been quite the feat and was certainly one of his more boast-worthy hunts.

Aela
Aela watched Arielle dart forward to kill the deer but turned away before she had to witness the doe's final moments. Guilt churned in her stomach. 'I'm sorry, rest in peace. thank you' she sent a small prayer to the spirit of the deer. Not for the first time, she wished wolves did not have to consume other creatures in order to survive. During the hunt her instincts took over and she revelled in the excitement, but once the adrenaline had gone and she was left with what they had done regret was all that remained, minus the pride of her packs strength. When Lucifers howl reached her she padded over to Arielle and touched her nose to her ear "Finely hunted," she smiled, and nodded to Pyre, Lucifer and Nakoma as well.

Arielle chorused in with the beta until her breath couldn't hold. "Thanks, beta Lucifer," she squeaked bashfully, drooping her head in humility. Affectionately, she pushed slightly into Lucifer as she nuzzled the apprentice. The apprentice, just now remembering her blood-flecked muzzle, licked the gray-blue fur around her mouth in embarrassment. She hummed in delight as she was congratulated by Aela too. "Thanks," she woofed sweetly, wagging her tail in happiness. She took a second to bask in the recognition, excited to return to the pack. Her legs began to ache again, her calves and thighs burning with fatigue. She winced with soreness, but despite her pain, she knew that she would definitely sleep well that night.

I joined in with Lucifer and Arielle as we howled, before giving her a little space from the excitement radiating off her; I made sure to swipe my tail along her shoulder, still showing my support so she didn't take my walking away as an insult. I looked at the doe, and back at the apprentice. I knew she could do it I thought to myself, but kept expression less except a smile to the Apprentice, not wanting to add salt to a wound with Pyre. I waited tell she had calmed down, before going over and giving her shoulder a nudge. "Take a dip in thw stream." I said softly, so no one would hear but us. I have a hunch the young wolf would ache, not used to the physical demand of a hunt. I'm just glad we stayed away from the Sunrise Boarder.

Finally the struggle was over, her maw opened and dropped the bucks neck. It made a slight thud upon the ground, her jaw ached from the fact it had locked. Upon hearing the howl she gave one of her own, it was as loud as she could make it. Once her short howl was done her banner began to sway, showing her happiness. "well done to you, I may of killed the animal but there's no way I'd of been able to do that without your help." she spoke softly. She was an honest wolf and would only give credit if it was due, which it was here. Her back half ached from the knock, but if it ached and that was the worst there was then she wasn't going to complain. "Maybe now Pyre will respect the fact I've gotten Kappa for a reason" she spoke with a hopeful tone.

Arielle nodded to Nakoma, "I'll be sure to," she whispered, a laughing tone in her voice. She looked back at the deer and wondered how she was ever able to finish it off. Surely she hadn't enjoyed it. Had she? "No, no of course not," she thought to herself, "I don't like killing, do I?" With a tiny head shake, the gray apprentice cleared the thought. "How're we gonna bring the deer back," she asked aloud, "Both her," she gave a nod to the doe, "And the other one that Nova and Adsila got?"

She had paused at the howl, giving a slight nod. "They got one of the bucks, I seen them chasing it off.. Two or three of us can drag this one back while one of the others can help them." She said with a shrug. "You might need to rest, you must ache." Her eyes turned back to the apprentice with a tilt of her head. Pushing down all thoughts of anything, her jaws locked around one of the legs and she moved so the doe could be dragged by two legs and maybe the neck if Arielle wanted to help in some way. "Lets get a move on eh?"

Pyre raised her muzzle "Nakoma, can you and Aela go help nova and Adsila with the buck? Theyll need a lot more help, Lucifer and i can bring this one back", knowing full well that her sister must be uneasy frrom all the blood the doe was leaking, and hoping Nova had kept the buck a little more clean than the doe. She flicked her tail on Arielle's shoulders "Alright, you can wash your muzzle off in the creek over there and join us for the walk back."

Nova dipped his head gratefully when accepting the praise. He looked to where Pyre was. She looked fine, as did Aela. He felt a rush of relief. "Pyre isn't an unreasonable wolf. She can recognize status when her pride doesn't get in the way," he said with an air of amusement. "Knowing her father, we should be thankful that this is as hot headed as she gets!". His green eyes flicked to her flank where the buck had kicked her. "But more importantly, how you holding up?"

Aela shot a grateful look to Pyre, hoping her sister caught it. "I'll see you back at camp then." She lowered her head respectfully to Lucifer before turned and trotting away to where Nova and Adsila were talking. Her eyes widened as she took a closer look at the buck they had caught. He was certainly big. Bigger ones had been caught before but when there were much more wolves to bring it down. Their ancestors had been with them this day. Pride warmed her chest as she looked at Nova. She remembered the days 2 years ago when he had been too clumsy to so much as catch a goose. He had come a long way. They all had.

I gave a curt nod, before trotting over to Nova and Adsila. They indeed had caught a large buck, and I couldn't help but marvel that they had caught such a large meal with so few wolves. "The pack will be well fed for a few days." I said praisingly to the group.

Adsila listened to him and heaved a sigh, her anger was gone for now and it would take a while to build up again. "Holding up?" she asked, unsure as to why he had asked that question. Her head tilted slightly to the right, her large ears perked up fully as they were in listening mode. She then heard another wolf approaching, her head snapped to look over to whom it was. Upon seeing Nakoma her hackles rose a little, she was always uneasy around those that she'd had disagreements with. "They shall, it wouldn't of been possible without Nova he did most of the work" she told. She wasn't sure if she mentioned it to prove a point or give credit, maybe a little of both,

"Where the buck ki-" Nova broke off midsentence as Nakoma approached, and acknowledged her with a nod. He didn't know whether Adsila would want him to mention how the buck had injured her in front of Nakoma or Pyre. He decided to leave it for now and ask her again later. Adsila wasn't the type to complain, especially not about pain, so he was a bit worried she wouldn't let on if it was serious. At her praise he felt his pelt grow warm from embarrassment "Please, a clutz like myself could never have pulled it off without help. You're kappa for a reason," he said with a smile, adding emphasis to the last part and glancing at Nakoma. Though he wasn't one to take sides he generally believed that disputes should be settled with rank. Ranks served a purpose after all. That was what he told himself every day when memories of past troubles nagged at his mind.

Arielle wagged her tail thankfully before turning and painfully trotting into the woods. She lay her eyes upon the babbling stream and she could already feel the cool rush of clean, clear water. Taking a position on the edge of the creek, she lowered her head to take a sip. As soon as the fresh water hit her tongue, her energy began to rejuvenate. Grinning, the gray apprentice bounded in, splashing like a pup. She rolled in the water and lay down, soaking her aching legs in the cold water. She stood and shook her pelt out, expelling droplets everywhere. Arielle began to trot back, her pain relieved for now.

I hadn't heard the comment, even though my ears were pricked. I swiveled them around, looking around as I did. It's unsettling quiet out. No birds could be heard, and no animals called to others. Even the newly terrorized herd had fallen silent already. I didn't like it, and wanted to get our prey home as quickly as we could
