Aela, Scout, F

Aela dropped into a low crouch and moved forward silently, her paws making no sound as she placed them down with laser like concentration on the ground as to not alert the herd. She kept to the shadows, keeping her ears and tail down and not looking at any one deer directly. The uncanny ability of prey to feel a predators gaze was risky. She caught sight of the injured doe and positioned herself so that on the signal she could dash out and seperate that half of the herd within moments. Accuracy at this point of the hunt was vital. Aela looked at Arielle and jerked her head minutely towards herself. To drive a wedge through the herd they'd need to stick close and not scatter every deer around.

Nova, Noble
Nova looked towards the other hunting party in surprise. That the beta had joined the fray meant there would be some harsh reprimanding later. Lucifer wasn't the most merciful of she-wolves. On the bright side, it meant their chances at succeeding were much higher now. He saw Aela moving slowly into position near the gray apprentice, Arielle. His eye was drawn to her automatically, the same with Pyre. Their travels had meant he had automatically learned to look for their pelts when hunting or guarding. Now that the hunt was proceeding much faster, he lowered his haunches and tensed his leg muscles. His jaws parted, allowing the scent of the prey to wash over his tongue and bringing him all the information he needed to know. The huge buck was in for a hell of a morning. "Got it," he murmured to Adsila. With his size he ought to able to reach the jugular and drag the buck to the ground without difficulty if all went to plan.

Surprised that the Beta was giving her the reins, she nodded quietly, motioning to Aela "Aela's going to split up the herd, The injured doe comes our way, Adsila wants the buck. We will start as soon as Aela successfully splits the herd..." with a glance at Aela, she gave a quick nod to her, and watched.

Aela, Scout

Aela sprang forward, covering the distance to the herd within a couple of seconds. Duck around the buck, swerve around the fawn and mother duo, dodge the rock rising up in front of her-She was vaguely aware of the dark pelts of the healthy deer around her as she weaved between them like water, but her vision had narrowed to a single point; the injured doe. Every muscle in her body reacted on reflex to what she saw in the way of the prey. Everything about the target was incredibly clear while everything else was a blur. Aela saw with pristine detail the fine hairs on it's ears as they shot straight up in alarm, the white of its eyes coming into view as they widened in fear, the black rimmed nostils flaring, the gash in it's flesh quivering in pain. The herd was only just realizing the danger they were in. She saw the muscles bunch in the shoulders as the doe prepared to flee, and nimbly switched gears so she could cut off its movements. Barely four seconds had passed when she was at the does side and snapping her teeth so they grazed its skin. Deer bolted to the left and right of her, the ones to the right (including the doe) racing towards Pyre's group. She hoped Arielle had been able to keep up-they still weren't done by a long shot.

Arielle shuffled closer to Aela, ready to sprint ahead. As the golden wolf sprang forward, the gray apprentice charged by her side like a racehorce out of the gate, her paws thidding against the spring ground. Her ears lay back with her speed and her fur was swept back in the wind. She ran with Aela, directing herself around the healthy deer and their fawns, attempting not to focus on them. She kept her dark eyes trained on the injured deer and passed onto its left side, her deaf ear facing it. She noticed how different a live deer looked from a dead one, but shook her head to clear away the distracting thought. She began to growl and snap at the deer's leg, mimicking Aela. She moved with the deer as she weaved left to right, keeping enough distance to be near her, but not enough to be hit. Her untrained legs were beginning to burn, but she pressed on, not wanting to dissapoint.

Adsila had taken up her spot, hidden in a bush not far away. Her petite size meant that she could slip in and out of it with ease. Making sure she was down wind her heart steadied to a constant beating. Pushing her weight into her haunches she was now like a loaded spring. Amber eyes fixated upon the buck, she was not about to lose focus on anything. As Aela took off she smiled, the herd were splitting so nicely, she knew Aela was the right choice for the maneuver. Seeing the buck coming towards their side she gave a nod, telling Nova that their hunt was beginning, The buck had past her no more than a split second ago and now she was off, close behind it. Nipping it it's heels the buck cried out, she was making it run. Guiding the animal towards the forest, she wished to slow it down and make it an easier target. Now she was guiding it, nipping at certain heels to make it turn she was skilled at this and it was clear. They came towards the forest, the creature began to slow, it was bulky so running may be difficult and the sight of trees may of also caused it's slowing. She awaited Novas expected arrival, her heart now raced with the thrill of the hunt.

Lucifer||Female||3.5||Beta

Her shoulders squared the minute they burst towards the doe, her paws dancing against the earth as they drove her away from the herd. Once the doe was nearly in front of her she leapt forwards and joined in with the chase. Snapping her teeth at the does front hooves to try and trip her up before grabbing the side and slowing herself down. She wasn't an expert in hunting, but fighting techniques helped alot. Her paws let the ground as she jumped and her teeth dug into the does lower neck, only slowing it down a bit as she clung on for dear life.

Nova, Noble, M, 3
Nova dug his paws into the ground, feeling the thunderous vibrations as the herd ran. His heart was beating quickly, pumping adrenaline and blood to every muscle in his body and heightening his senses until he could barely keep still from excitement. A young buck dashed past his hiding spot barely a tail length away and he nearly gave chase before recognizing it as much smaller than their initial target. Then the moment arrived. He pressed himself closer to the bark of the tree he was using as camouflage as Adsila and the stag came into view, running straight towards the treeline. The red she-wolf was doing and impeccable job keeping the deer on track. The buck was larger than he had expected. Not wanting to risk missing the throat, he changed his attack plan. He felt envy at the speed Adsila had ready at her disposal. But he had his own merits too. With a snarl he leaped from his position, releasing the stored power in his thick muscles, and in two long bounds was at the bucks front. Within a split second he crouched and flung himself upon its shoulder while at the same time twisting so his weight threw it off balance. Blood flooded his mouth when he bit down into the shoulder muscle and locked his jaw, two inch fangs sunk deep into the flesh. The buck gave a bellow of pain and stumbled, finally losing its footing and falling to its front knees. Nova pulled down with all his strength , forcing its neck to the ground and hoping Adsila would go for the throat before it regained its composure and ran for it. His legs and shoulders trembled from the exertion but he had never felt more alive.

Aela, Scout, 4

Aela barked to Arielle "Come on!"and ran after the doe, now with Lucifer hanging off its neck. With wind-like speed now propelling herself over the ground, she ran a circle around the prey and hunting wolves, snarling and leaping at any deer that came too close. A brave buck might try to run at them or a confused deer might stray too close and hurt one of her pack members. It was unexpectedly common and she knew to expect it now. She was running alongside a large doe and barely missed being kicked by a sharp hoof. She rammed into it's side, sending it bolting in the other direction. Though the thrill of the hunt had taken over the better part of her mind, she remembered to look back and check on Arielle every few moments. She was proud of the apprentice for having kept up so far and adapting to the situation. "If you see a deer coming close to Lucifer and the target, scare it away," she panted as she ran at a slower pace. "Just stay at least four tail lengths back from them and don't get separated from me." As small as Arielle was at her age, it would be easy to lose sight of her in the madness and getting injured would be easy.

(i know deer have antlers but I do use the word shorn at one point just because it makes a nicer phrase. Just saying the before hand to prove I'm not an idiot xD)

Adsila watched as the large male lept onto the buck, going for it's shoulder. As he went for the shoulder she took her moment to grab the bucks hind leg and pull. She knew what she was doing wasn't bringing down the buck, but it may just help a little. As it fell to it's knees she was glad she'd pulled the hind leg out, it just unbalanced the creature a bit more upon the ground. Now the buck was injured and cornered she knew it's fight instincts would kick it, making it much more dangerous. On the run horns and hooves are no fear, but one the animal is cornered they suddenly become lethal weapons. The buck's neck was exposed so seeing her opportunity she went for it, her jaws clamped down, sinking her teeth into the animal as far as they could go. The taste of blood filled her mouth, but the main thing she could feel was the creatures windpipe. Squeezing she aimed to suffocate the animal, this took less time than trying to bleed it to death by tearing the jugular. The bucks breathing became slower and more laboured the longer she held, but it wasn't going to give up whilst there was still life in it. Upon her hind quarters she felt a hard knock, causing her a rather lot of pain and knocking them out from under her. Her eyes slide to the side to see if she could find the cause of the disturbance. The buck had used it's antlers to try and get her off, but it was too late, her jaw had locked. Good thing the buck is weak or else that could've broken my hip, probably only bruised though she thought to herself.

Nakoma~3~Zeta
Lucifer's hanging off the does neck, while the apprentice and scout kept it isolated. I bit at the does heels, hoping to make her stumble and go for the kill. I went to the other side, and bit at her side; making her stagger to the right. Since Lucifer was already trying to go for the kill, no since of me going for it. "Imma force it to the ground!" I called to Lucifer wanting her to be ready.

[I want to point out that a 7 month old wolf isn't actually all that small. They're only a little smaller than full-grown adults.]

Arielle forced herself to charge faster, sinking her head down to the height of her shoulders, spurred on by Aela's encouragment and the thrill of the hunt. She mimicked her golden herding partner, barking and snarling harshly at any deer that stray too close. She let out a short, whooping howl in excitement. Her legs ached now, unused to this much work and speed. She leaped and cleared a fleeing deer's hoof, the sharp foot only barely hitting her tail. She landed and winced with the pain and exaustion in her legs, but despite the pain, she pushed through, keeping up with the doe. She wanted to help, to leap on the deer's side and bring it down with the beta clinging on to the base of its neck, but she decided against it, knowing the danger.

Lucifer||Female||3.5||Beta

The beta let out a grunt to Nakoma, giving her the go-ahead. Her teeth clamped down harder before she swung herself up and landed her paws on the does side and pushed, causing the doe to stagger a bit more and Lucifer able to jump out of the way if the doe was to fall. She worked her way up slightly to avoid being crushed underneath the doe and made quick snaps to find purchase on the rough fur of the does neck. Her paws gave one final push before she let go and was running alongside the doe. "Grab her front leg!" She called to the Zeta, preparing to grab the other to trip the doe up. It was easier that way, making the doe stumble onto her knees and possibly roll it causing it to break it's neck or legs.

Pyre

While the others had been atacking she had been running alongside, waiting for a good moment to strike. Seeing Nakoma and Lucifer had a strategy, she was going to grab the doe's injured leg to unbalance it more; when she noticed something up ahead, a larger group of the deer gathering. Aela and Arielle would have too much trouble scattering them in time, so when Lucifer gave the go ahead, Pyre suddenly leaped up and took hold of the doe's other shoulder opposite lucifer, unbalanced greatly in the front and sides from the back and injured leg, the doe stumbled forward, trying to regain its balance with a slower gait, when Lucifer suddenly kicked off of the doe it lost its little bit of balance it had regained and fell forward, driving its face into the soil with a squeal of terror.

With a brief howl, she halted and watched as the deer rolled forwards as she had expected it to do. She watched it struggle for a minute, noticing Pyre had grabbed onto the other shoulder and gave the female a brief nod. "Well done." She mumbled before dashing forwards, leaving a long gash across the does throat. A bit of blood dribbled from her maw and she spit out the fur that had been between her teeth. She ignored the thrashing of the doe and turned to Arielle, "Finish it." She said simply, giving no room for arguement from the others. "Watch the hooves, simply bite down where the gash is and don't let go till she is dead."

For a moment thinking Lucifer cruel to do that to a young apprentice, Pyre realized the honor and experience Arielle would receive from this hunt, and happily kept her mouth shut, watching the pup happily.

Arielle | Female | 7 mo. | Apprentice

Arielle sprinted forward with the deer, tounge lolling out in exaustion. At it fell forward, she felt a certain surge of pride and excitement and slowed her pace near the doe. She watched the deer thrash for a second before she heard Lucifer's command, which left her shocked a moment. Instead of freezing in awe, she dashed forward toward the neck and immediately latched onto it, sinking her teeth into the bleeding gash with vicious strength. Her exaustion receded into the back of her mind and was forgotten for the moment as her jaw locked into the juicy meat. A thrashing leg came centemeters from hitting her, though for a split-second, she could feel the aimed kick on her longest hairs. Sounds from around her faded out, replaced by her own rapid heartbeat and the doe's laboured and struggling breaths. Her claws and feet remained rooted in the soft spring soil, only moving to evade the hooves. She felt the deer's blood soak her muzzle, but she couldn't care less about personal cleanliness. Her heart burst with pride as the gray apprentice felt the muscles around the deer's gash weaken and relax, taking the legs with it. She adjusted herself, while still gripping on the neck, just in time to witness the beady black eyes of the doe gloss over in death. When she could no longer feel even the slightest tinge of a heartbeat, she released, spitting out the blood she had not yet swallowed. Arielle let out a sigh of fatigue before laying her eyes upon the fallen doe. Once she had realized her accomplishment, her deep brown eyes widened and she let out a strong, proud howl despite her weariness.
