Masters. They have been around for many years, keeping out of the eyes of the human. To humans, a Master appears as any other human being. They simply have powers beyond those of normal humans. Then, Masters were discovered many, many years ago. Because of this, they were each given an animal to protect them once powers developed. This animal was called a Guardian. These Guardian's are always larger than their normal counterparts unless the animal is already fairly large as normal. Masters and Guardians were each given a crystal that matched. This was their connection; Masters and Guardians can speak to each other. But no Master can speak to a Guardian that is not his own, but Guardians can understand all humans.
Shortly after the creating of the Guardians, different schools were made. Just a few in the entire country. Here Masters trained to better their powers, and learn to fight with their Guardian in battle. But, again the humans found the Masters. Much was done to conceal their identities, but nothing worked. The government waged war. All schools were set to be destroyed. The government succeeded. In most schools, everyone was killed. But at one, two Masters and two Guardians made it out alive. This is their journey.

Adysin listened to her story with great interest, her eyebrows raising with intrigue. Imaginary friends? It was a term that Adysin was unfamiliar with, as in German there had been no word to describe that. She leaned down and laid herself in the grass, resting her chin on her hands, looking up at Ryder as she continued to speak. It was a good memory, that much Adysin could tell. With the way that she was smiling and giggling, it definitely was something that she was embarrassed about but also happy about. "Imaginary friends." Adysin repeated, lifting her legs up into the air and kicking them about. "What a funny term." Adysin looked down at the grass and with one hand, she picked up a blade, curling it between her fingers. "So you spoke to people who weren't there? Are you saying that you didn't have any friends?" Adysin frowned at that thought. It saddened her to think that bubbly Ryder wouldn't have any friends. Her bubbliness was impossible to reject, and it had made it's way into Adysin. "I can't imagine a world where Ryder didn't have any none imaginary friends." she smiled softly up at Ryder. Adysin herself had been a social butterfly in her days, attracting every kind of person someone could imagine. She had been much different as a child, more relaxed and easy going than she was now. It had attracted people like her at the time and people who were more like she was now. At the time she had been able to work miracles on people. Perhaps Ryder was different, perhaps she was not as much as a social butterfly as Adysin assumed she was. Then she remembered she had mentioned being an introvert, perhaps that meant that she didn't have as many friends as Adysin had.

Ryder watched as Adysin lay down. She couldn't help but to let her eyes fall over and land on her butt. Ryder smiled to herself before answering Adysin's question. "I was a very quiet and to myself child. Even more than I was when I first arrived at the school." And it was true. As a child, Ryder hardly talked to anyone other than her parents. She never spoke to strangers and rarely to kids her own age. Starting preschool had changed that a little. She had made a best friend. But even they weren't that close. Ryder still preferred to be by herself. It was how she was most comfortable. As she grew older, she grew out of it some. But not much. She could at least talk to others now. "People weren't really my favorite thing back then." She gave a small laugh. "Or even now really. I actually let very few in." A blush colored her cheeks. "Even fewer the way I've let you in." The way Ryder opened up and talked to Adysin was unlike herself. With friends at least. Zoey was the only other person to ever know such personal things about Ryder. But even with her, it hadn't happened as quickly as it happened with Adysin.

Adysin caught the way Ryder's gaze flickered over her body, and a small smirk crossed her lips. There was hope for her after all. Then she spoke again, catching Adysin's attention before it trailed off to dirty thoughts. Ryder had been born not liking other people, tending to stay away from anything that walked on two legs besides her parents, only growing on other people as she grew older. Adysin had been the opposite. She had had loved people and the company of others as a little child, but that joy and excitement faded tremendously. Adysin hated most people now, at least she was reserved most of the time, unless they angered her. If she was angry, then she became a poisonous snake. Although Adysin was lost in her thoughts for a moment, she was brought back when she saw Ryder's cheeks flush. Adysin was confused for a moment, but then she heard Ryder's next words and the smirk was back on her lips. It was flattering to know that Adysin wasn't the only one feeling as though she couldn't keep something from Ryder. Though there were parts of her life Ryder would probably never know, she didn't need to know all the details about what had happened to her, she felt as though Ryder already knew a lot. It wasn't everyday that Adysin offered any backstory. "Neither have I. Three to be exact. But only one really knows." Adysin said softly, reaching out and squeezing her hand. Of course that 'one' was Ryder. Sam had known that Adysin was a wounded soul and had experienced traumatic events in her life, known that she had been raped multiple times in her life. That was the extent of her knowledge. Thomas had known a little bit more, had known about Annabel and had known about the three years of her life where she had been on her own. But he hadn't known much about her family. "And of course you're that one." Adysin murmured.

Ryder gently squeezed back on Adysin's hand. She was shocked. Of course, she figured that Adysin wasn't one to just share her story with everyone, but to know that she was trusted enough to know most of what happened made her heart swell. The smaller girl lay down on her belly next to the other. She leaned over and pressed her lips to Adysin 's temple in a sweet kiss. Ryder knew that she didn't know every detail of Adysin's past, but she didn't need to. She knew what Adysin wanted her to know, and that was enough for Ryder. But it still made her happier than she could say to know she was so trusted. She ducked her head before speaking, "Thank you... For trusting me that is." Ryder look back up with a smile on her face. "It means a lot to me to know you do." Ryder wasn't the first to trust someone. And she knew all too well that Adysin was even worse off than she was. "You know... I never even told Zoey about my mom or her powers. Or anything of the night I was forced out. Except of course that it didn't go well. That was all I wanted to tell her. But I wanted you to know everything... And I don't know why. But, honestly, at this point, I don't care. I just know I want to share everything with you." Ryder scooted the small amount closer that would have them touching from shoulder to toe again. The small girl even picked up a leg and tossed it over Adysin, letting her foot rest between the girl's calfs.

It was strange to feel the closeness of Ryder. Adysin was used to distance from everyone, except when they were in the middle of an intimate moment. Not that this moment wasn't intimate, because it was, but in a different way. It wasn't lust, sex, or desire. It was a want to be close to each other without having the feeling that there had to be more. Again,
it wasn't that Adysin didn't want to be intimate with Ryder in that way, because Adysin was hardly the person to pass up a beautiful woman like that. But she was satisfied with being close to her, enjoy her nearness. When Ryder spoke, Adysin turned her head slightly so that she was staring at Ryder's profile. It was strange to her to hear that someone was thanking her for anything. Especially for trusting someone. That was something the two had in common. Neither of them had much faith in people and it took a lot for them to trust anyone, so hearing that from Ryder was a huge compliment. Then Ryder compared Adysin to Zoey and Adysin's heart jumped to her throat. Just hearing Zoey's name sent a shiver of anger through her body, but it also made her nervous. Zoey had been Ryder's 'first love' and there was nothing Adysin could do to compete with that kind of love. But hearing Ryder compare her, made her happy and nervous at the same time. It came with a weight. Meaning, Adysin couldn't betray that trust Ryder had put in her. Not that she ever would. A small smile crossed Adysin's face, her gaze never leaving Ry's profile. She was pretty, no doubt about that, though in a very exotic kind of way in Adysin's mind. "It doesn't matter if you know or not. That's the beauty in life. We do things without knowing why we do them, only that we want to do them and that it makes us feel good and that it feels right." she said thoughtfully, "So sharing things with you feels like it's meant to be." Adysin wanted to stay like this for eternity, although she knew that it was an illogical thing to think. Out of the corner of Adysin's eye, she saw a movement coming towards them, and before she knew it a third body was thrown on top of them with a squeak of excitement. Annabel had decided to join them. A laugh floated from Adysin's mouth at the sudden attack.

Ryder was enjoying their closeness and just listening to Andysin speak. And thus, she didn't hear the smaller human approaching. "Oof!" The breath was knocked out of Ryder for a moment as she registered the weight of Annabel on her.Adysin's beautiful laugh was the next thing she noticed. Ryder released Adysin's hand and slowly rolled over so she was on her back under the child. She smiled up at the young girl. "A surprise attack, huh?" Ryder's light voice was full of playfulness. And she reached upwards, tickling the girl's sides. "This is what a surprise attack will get, ya!" Being mindful, Ryder steadied the girl with one hand while using the other to tickle her sides. Ryder had never been one to play with kids, but being around Annabel had opened her up more. But she also had a small thought that it might just be because it was Adysin's daughter, and therefore Ryder held a bit of bias for the young girl. Ryder stopped her tickling for a moment and glanced sideways at Adysin, before comically looking back at Annabel with wide eyes. In a stage whisper, she spoke to Annabel, "Why don't we surprise attack your, mommy?!" Ryder tilted her head towards Adysin and spoke again in a stage whisper. "Why don't you go tickle her?" Ryder smiled widely, encouraging the kid to do as Ryder said.

Adysin watched Ryder interact with Annabel. It was truly adorable, knowing that Ryder didn't really like children. Annabel was thrilled when Ryder reached out her fingers and tickled her, coaxing an eruption of giggles from her lips. Her father had never played with her like this and it made her delighted to know that someone wanted to play with her. Her giggles turned into squeals when she continued to tickle her, "Stop! Stop!" she gasped through giggles. Adysin's heart warmed to a glow as she watched, affection flickered in her eyes. When Ryder leaned up to fake whisper to Annabel, a grin flickered over her face and she leaned down so that she could pretend to listen to the very secret message Ryder was about to whisper. Then she suggested that they should tickle Adysin and Annabel's eyes lit up with a wicked mischief, and she looked over towards her mother. When Adysin saw that wicked glint in her eyes, and heard the words that Ryder had said, she rolled away from them and sat up. Raising her hands in surrender, Adysin exclaimed, "Oh no you don't!" A warning look crossed her face as she stared at Annabel, but that didn't stop the girl from lunging at her, her hands stretched out. When she connected with Adysin, a laugh came from her lips from the force of their collision but also because her tiny fingers came into contact with her skin. Adysin wrapped her arms around Annabel and pressed her close to her, making her stop tickling her. "I'm gonna pay you back for that!" Adysin announced, letting go of Annabel and crawling over to Ryder, returning the tickle. Annabel caught on quickly and tickled with Adysin.

Ryder couldn't help but laugh as she watched Annabel try to attack Adysin. But she quickly stopped when Adysin was on her tickling her, and then Annabel joined. She laughed and rolled, being mindful of Annabel. "Quit it! Q-quit it!" Her words would muffled by her laughter. After a few moments she managed to roll herself away from the two. She sat up and sent a playful glare towards Adysin. "So, you think you're funny, huh." Her chest heaved as she caught her breath. She had to admit, this was fun. It almost felt like they were a little family. But they weren't. She had to remind herself of that. Hell, her and Adysin had only recently admitted how much they meant to each other... But that didn't matter! Ryder would take in all of this closeness. She'd take every little bit that Adysin would give her. And offer more, letting Adysin know it was there when she wanted it.

This moment with the two strange to Adysin. It was a good strange, but strange nonetheless. She wasn't used to being so affectionate with anyone, though she felt as though a part of her would be able to get used to it. Her laugh was music to her ears and it caused a happy smile to cross her face. Adysin sat up after Ryder had managed to get away from them. A grin was on her face as she watched her, waiting for her to say something else. Annabel crawled over towards her mother and settled herself in her lap. She wrapped her arms around her, and rocked her slightly. "I do think we're very funny. Mother like daughter." she said, laughing softly, giving Ryder a quick wink. She was implying that Annabel would be much like her when she grew up, which she would, in many more ways than one. A part of her wanted to distance herself from Ryder again, because the feelings were becoming a bit overwhelming. It scared her and she wanted to not be afraid while they were about to face the most intense days of their life. Turning her head she studied the roasting bore, to make sure that it wasn't about to catch fire in front of them like the rabbit had the other day. She wanted to avoid looking at Ryder right now, afraid that she would notice the wall that was forming once more.

Ryder, oblivious to the wall Adysin was building again, stood and walked over towards her. She knelt down and gently turned her face towards her with a light touch. She placed a sweet kiss onto Adysin's nose and smiled. "So, does that mean she's gonna be this beautiful?" Ryder, feeling proud of herself, place one more kiss to Adysin's nose and then stood up. She walked over to the spot where Zayden had lay down. The large beast had chosen the spot where Ryder had made a small pile of firewood. Reaching up, she gently rubbed her hand between his eyes and over his muzzle. "You can go hunt, if ya want. We're gonna be here just a bit while this thing finishes." Zayden nodded and stood. He pressed his nose into her abdomen. "Yell if you need me. I won't stray far." Ryder nodded at his deep voice. She knew he had been waiting for a while. Waiting for the forest to calm back down after Addie's hunt. Though ryder knew the other girl could be a quite as a mouse when she needed, it didn't hurt to wait a bit. But now she watched as the foliage closed around Zayden's large form. The silent leopard prowled into the forest as Ryder made her way back towards the fire after picking up a few pieces of the firewood she had gathered. After dropping the pieces onto the fire, she settled back down near Adysin, but with some space between them.

Adysin's head was guided towards Ryder by her hand, a gesture Adysin usually never dealt with, but was becoming accustomed to. She wanted to pull away and slap her hand away, but she refrained herself. Instead, she allowed Ryder to create a moment for them. The kiss on her nose caused her nose to crinkle, a small smile crossing her face. Although she wanted to push her away again, she couldn't help but smile at Ryder's adorable gestures. Her words cause a flush to come over her cheeks and she looked down at the grass that was sprouting between her hands. "I guess it does." she whispered softly, finally looking back up at her. Spared the pain of having to push her away, Ryder got up and walked away, towards her Guardian who was beginning to look restless. Adamaris, who had already eaten during their hunt, stayed laying where she was in the grass. She was on her side, resting her head in the grass. Occasionally she would sneeze when a blade of grass would really pester her, but other than that, she was silent. Adysin turned her head back towards the fire, watching as it lapped at the meat. Getting up, she turned the stake slightly so that the fire would begin roasting the other side of the boar. Their interaction, Adysins and Ryders, had felt as though it had lasted hours,
when in reality it had actually only been about one or maybe two hours. It meant that the boar needed another bit before it would be ready to safely eat. Because it was in the pig category, they had to be careful with how well the pig was cooked. If it was too rare, there was a chance that they would get sick and potentially die. She'd rather it be too dry than that. After a couple minutes, Adysin jumped in surprise when the firewood was dropped next to her. It took her by complete surprise, so she let out a soft cry. "I guess I'm scared of firewood now." she said jokingly, running her hand through her hair in order to distract herself from the feeling of embarrassment that was beginning to come over her.

Ryder couldn't help the small chuckle that escaped her as Adysin let out a scream at the firewood. She lay back on the grass with her hand behind her head. "You gonna be alright there, Addie?" Ryder's voice was full of playfulness. "I didn't think the big bad Adysin was scared of anything!" The playful sarcasm was thick in the smaller girl's voice. She lay back for a few minutes before pushing herself back upright and picking up a long, sturdy stick. She used the stick to poke around in the fire, causing it to perk back up as air got underneath the wood. She tossed another peice onto the pile and watched the fire. "How do you think the other school Wil take to the news? I mean it's not exactly lighthearted... There were a lot of shifters, students and faculty, there. And it seems as if we're the only two that made it out...." Ryder's words brought her back to that day. And her moon went south. She still hated herself because she did nothing but hide away. She glanced over at Adysin. She had fought. She had tried to help. She had done some good that day. And Ryder did nothing. She ran and hid like the scared little girl she had always been...

Addie rolled her eyes at Ryder but gave her a crooked grin. Even the big bad wolf could be startled by something when deep in thought. But her lighthearted mood changed when Ryder brought up the next boarding school. It was easy for Adysin to know exactly what she was thinking about by just a glance at her face. Her expression read one of shame, ashamed of the fact that instead of fighting alongside her people, she had hidden inside a closet. Adysin had been angry when hearing about it, but those feelings of anger were long gone. Knowing the state that Ryder was in, there was no way she would have survived the fighting. She was grateful that she was alive, or else she would have been alone in this world, hiding from the men who were after them. It wasn't easy, being on the run. But it would be much harder if it was only her. "I don't know. I guess the best we can do is warn them, have them prepared before they attack. That is, if we get there early enough." she said thoughtfully, running her hand through her hair. She rolled onto her stomach again and rested her chin on her hands, watching the fire roast the other side of the boar. It seemed an eternity before Adysin turned her face and looked at Ryder again. "They probably won't take it well, or they already know about the threat. But we have evidence that they will be showing up soon, so they have no choice to prepare.
It's the only logical thing to do.
" There were many things that were illogical, especially the way Adysin's brain worked. There were many things about it that didn't make sense to anyone, except herself. Perhaps it was because she never let anyone in long enough to make sense of all the thoughts that buzzed through her brain. Shrugging the thought away she tilted her head so that her cheek was on her fist. "We will see how they handle it. It's not like they can say we are lying."

"But they can. They can say exactly that." Ryder sighed and flopped back on the ground, covering her face with her hands. She let out an exasperated noise. "They can say we're lying. They can say we have no idea what we're talking about. We'll tell them to go check out the other place, and who knows, by then it could already be too late." Everything was finally piling up and becoming just a bit too much all around. Her feelings from running during the first fight, her feelings for Addie, her feelings about her parents, hell even the way she actually liked having Annabel around was getting to her. It was all just adding up to me too much. But, damn it, she wouldn't trade it away. Well, maybe the not fighting. She would change that anytime she could. Ryder just wanted to put everything on pause for a moment. She wanted time to freeze so she had time to figure everything out. But she knew that couldn't happen.
It didn't work that way. The world didn't just stop turning because she asked it to. But maybe she could ask to turn back time? Back to before this all happened. She wanted to be normal again. Not running for her life. But back then she didn't know Addie. Did she really want to give that up? She shook her head slightly. No. So then, she would go forward! Forward towards safety. She needed to work with Adysin to get all of them somewhere safe. And right now,
that safe place was the town they were headed to after the next school. If they could get there, they could be among their own people. "Yes. We can get there. And then things can settle down."
Ryder's wild thoughts only kept her silent for about a minute, but during that minute, she had kept her face covered in her hands and moving her head as if having an actual conversation. But she made no sounds until she dropped one hand and lay her arm over her eyes, then she gave a sigh. "Addie... I'm just tired of this running." Ryder's voice was weak and broken. "But we have to keep going... RIght?" Her voice perked up a bit. She knew that they needed to keep going. And she made a vow to herself. She would never run like she had before. She was finished with her running. If it came to a fight, she would stand tall and fight to help protect Annabel, Addie, and their own kind. She would do what she had to. WIth the hand not over her face, she reached down and patted her pocket. The hallow-hilted knife was still there.

|| A∂уѕιη Ƈяαωƒσя∂ || Ƒємαℓє || 19 || Ƒσяcє Ƒιєℓ∂ ||Ryder's commentary about the school possibly not believing them made Adysin frown. What if that actually was a possibility? What if they didn't believe them and chose to ignore their warning? It would be a disaster. So many lives would be lost, so many lives that could have been spared. So many lives that were worth living on. Lives that the government had no right taking. Adysin had to forget about the what if's and focus on what the actual task was at hand. They would warn the school and make them believe what had actually happened. That way, they could begin preparing and have strategic plans ready for them. It was one of the reasons their battle had gone so wrong. There had been no plan, no coordination, no understanding. Frankly, it was a bunch of kids and their teachers running at highly trained military soldiers. What had been their odds? Close to zero. It made Adysin wonder how this school was any different. Perhaps with an actual plan, they can send people out in waves, and those wave of people would replenish those still fighting, allowing them to recover. Maybe with a plan like that, they could keep them at bay for a while. But what happens when everyone got tired or died? Then, their fate would be no better than Ryder's and Adysin's had been. Adysin couldn't get caught up in the what if's. Because the truth was, she didn't know what would had happened if the battle wouldn't have happened. Sam would still be alive and Adysin would still be the same girl she was then. Confused, emotionally unstable, no chance of recovering. It wasn't that she wasn't emotionally unstable now, because she was, but with Ryder, there was an actual chance for her to find herself in a way Sam couldn't have offered her. And that's what Adysin needed at the moment. She needed a chance to actually find a way in this world. What better way with a girl who had the most faith in her? Who believed there was good in her? Who believed that she could actually become something? Adysin's thoughts got drawn back to her when Ryder spoke again. Her eyes refocused and shifted towards the small girl. Ryder's words made her frown and sit up. "Of course we have to keep going. Do you want to stop here and make a life here?" Adysin finally spoke, gesturing to the forest that surrounded them. "No, we have to keep moving. We have to find a place that's worth living in.
But we can't find that without running away from these problems. They'll follows us unless we find a safe haven, a place from their prying eyes. Or we can put an end to them, but I don't know how to do that.
" Adysin murmured, her face turning towards the fire.
