Are you more into mane shapes? Then the Mane Genetics Thread is here for you

Wiki entry about Combo Bases

This began as a way to share theories about possible combinations, but then things got way bigger than expected. A lot of people have invested a lot of currency in the scrying stone to see if we were right about combos, and here is the result :D

But wait... What are combo bases?

When you breed two lions with the right combination of bases, their cubs roll a further, extra chance that can result in a third, new base, a "combo" base. Each combo base has its own requirements, and these bases often ignore the set genetic rules: for example, the Cairngorm combo base (Black Light Solid Special genetics) can be obtained by breeding a Celestial lion (Black Dark Countershaded Special genetics) and a Cocoa lioness (Black Medium Countershaded Rare genetics). Most combo bases can be passed down as long as one parent has it and further requirements are met if there are any, with the exception of Pulsar and Temporal.

*Since the 12th October update, cubs that have triggered the original combo bases - Cairngorm, Citrine, Madagascar or Qahir - have a 50% chance of getting their respective mane color, and these can be inherited like any other mane color!

Right now there are two different types of combo bases: "standard" combos and "factor" combos. Factor ones can be obtined by breeding any of the bases that make up the combo, but standard ones can be obtained by more than one combination of bases that are assembled into two different groups. The combo can trigger as long as the parents have bases that belong to a different combo group (not to be mistaken by the genetic color group).

*Note: While some of the following standard combo tables have been completed, there may be some combinations that remain undiscovered yet.

I really don't think the initial four would matter, as the News post said:
"In the future there will be bases that can be bred only during certain events, only in the wet or dry seasons, and only during the night or daytime."

Adding my results from these breedings:

Posted on 2017-12-18 07:02:51
I've bred 2 Cairngorms, but don't recall time of day or season.
But, I am breeding 6 lionesses this morning, including both of my successful moms.

Bred during Dry Day Time, approx 6:48am LD time.

Cocoa/Low/Lvl7 ----- (made Cairngorm before) - fail x3
Cocoa/Average/Lvl7 --------------------------------------- fail
Ethereal/Good/Lvl2 --------------------------------------- fail... (But wait!! There's more! Now with Hetero!)
Slate/Low/Lv;9 ---------------------------------------------- fail
Slate//Average/Lvl2 --------------------------------------- fail
Slate/VLF-30/Lvl2 -- (made Cairngorm before) --- fail x3

Edit to add, I missed a girl with the first group:
Bred during Dry Night Time, approx 7:17am LD time.

Ethereal/VLF-7/Lvl5 + Black Stallion, and she's a Broken Pie. --- fail x2

What exactly does this "Known Combinations" part tell me? Can't all four bases on the right side breed the combo base with either of the bases on the right side of any given combo base?

Known combinations are tested pairs that have either produced the combo base, or were shown to have the ability to produce the combo when using the scrying stone. The Known Combinations list was used to determine in which side a factoring base belongs.

I see. Why isn't Cairngorm in there too?

@Grovyle

Cairngorm's combo bases were given to us with the original News, the others we had to find by ourselves :3

Cairngorm had all of the factors revealed in the News post, as an example of how the new Combo Bases worked. It was the other 3 new Combo Bases that had to be tested, and found on our own.

Yeah, that makes sense, I didn't remember there was one base announced in the news post.
Thanks, you two!

To avoid further confusions, I'll erase the "known combinations" part for Citrine, Madagascar and Qahir.

I wish I had thought to screenshot this, but this morning I managed to scry a Citrine cub in a Ctirine pairing. So they can be obtained by breeding them together. Not sure where the rumor came from, but so much of staff has been repeating it that it seems accepted as fact by everyone now.

I was using this male and this female.

I have not tried this by using Citrine and, for instance, Champagne. Several thousand SB went into the scrying stone between this and a marking percentage test I'm doing already. So if anyone wants to try using other pairings, please do!

@Bezthiel

I don't know for sure if Combo x Combo pairings are supposed to pass the base or not, but I know for sure that a combo base x any other base that is not the eight ones that make up their combo is not supposed to pass it. I'll ask about it regardless, but meanwhile don't waste the SB in scrying those, please.

According to Keina, they don't, but whether or not they're supposed to wasn't entirely clear. They're only a Helper and not a Coder, and I'm still waiting on the answer for whether or not they're supposed to pass if bred together from someone that knows how the code works.

Edit: I did just realize that what I said could have been taken as blaming this thread for the rumor, which isn't true or what I meant. This is just the most popular place to share combo base findings, so I figured it was the likeliest place to get that information to people who want to know it!

I had scried a cairngorm/cairngorm pairing previously and a cairngorm cub was an option.

Here is the info from the post I made when I did it (posted on pg 21 in this topic):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer according to scrying stone is YES. Scried this lioness to this stud.

(Edit to add, it showed up on 21st scry attempt. The other results were black light bases: ashen, birch, isabel, white, albino...)

I'm trying to get another Citrine cub so I can screenshot it, but of course I'm having no luck while I'm paying attention to bases and not marks.

I just noticed the bolded part of the first post, and the edit date and saw Cairngorm wasn't listed among the notes bases that can be bred with Cairngorm to get Cairngorm.
