Sayha

Sayha stared blankly at the animal floating in the water. She clawed the bark beneath her sending splinters into the air. She hissed as one caught in between her paw. She worked at her paw trying to get it out. She caught it in between her teeth and ripped it out. Blood welled from the new wound but closed up quickly and stopped as fast as it had started. Sayha stood on the branch, looking up as she saw a bird land in a nest near the top of the tree. Her stomach rumbled and she bounded up the trunk, she wouldn’t let this prey get away! The bird rushed away as it saw her and tried to warn her away. She didn’t care about the bird. Only the eggs. Her mouth watered at the sight of two eggs. They were small but she didn’t care. She carefully picked them up in her jaws. Eager to get away from the bird she forgot about the animal in the water. She jumped down the trunk, landing on her paws. She laid down, near the water and placed the eggs down. One was slightly torn and she began licking the tasty, satisfying yolk. In her bliss she had no clue about the animal still watching her in the water.

Spice slowly advanced to the shore, snatching an egg in her paws and darting back into the water with a splash. The giant otter leapt onto a rock a bit further from the cub, cracking the egg open with her fangs. She usually didn't eat egg- but hey, couldn't pass such an easy snack.

Sayha

Sayha stared at the animal sadly. This had been her first snack since her mother left, which was a week. The egg had barely even filled her up. But now that the animal had filled her up with a mixture of envy, anger, and frustration she wasn’t even hungry anymore. “Fine. Have all of it you thief!” she spat. She dragged her paws back towards the tree. She looked up at the tree, sighing. She wasn’t worthy of playing with the spirits in the trees by climbing them. She sat her haunches in the muddy soil, curling up. She buried her head in her fur, and shivered, missing the soft comforting touch of her mothers fur, and the way her mother spoke to her gently when Sayha got frustrated or angry.

Her head tilted to the side, flattening her ears lightly as the leopard cub spoke to her. The river otter said nothing, slinking into the water and diving underneath. A few ripples travelled along the surface of the water before spice broke through the river's surface, a scaly carp in her jaws. She cautiously approached the leopard cub, dropping the fish and slowly backing off.

She rumbled angrily as she heard the mud squelch underneath the animals weight. She raised her head to growl at the animal, spotting the fish placed next to her. She eyed the animal warily. Was this a trick? “I’m not hungry.” She nudged the fish back to the brown mammal. In truth she was, but she was determined to not let the animal she her weakness. Her mouth watered at the smell of the fish as it bathed her nose. She sniffed the fish once more, and snatched it. She buried her muzzle into the savory flesh, snapping the thin bones of the fish. She devoured all of it hastily, softly purring as she relished its taste. She looked back up at the animal, suddenly realizing how rude she was. “Thank you…” she murmured, avoiding the creatures eyes.

Spice gave a small purr in response, watching the cub curiously. It seemed the otter had a soft spot for cubs- if sayha were an adult spice would've taken both eggs and left. She lowered her head lightly as if to say 'you're welcome'. The river otter seemed faintly amused, her fur had flattened by now and she kind of felt bad for scratching the cub.

Sayha licked her lips, and began cleaning her face from the scales. Once she thought her fur was good enough she tilted her head. “Why did you give your fish to me..?” she asked, blinking slowly, showing that she trusted the animal now. She curled her speckled tail around her paws as she sat neatly.

'Because. You needed food. I have some to spare.' She spoke simply. her voice was soft yet had a sense of confidence, and she kept alert because of the other big cats around. The sleek furred otter sat down, her short tail flicking back and forth and getting dirt stuck to her pelt.

Sayha tilted her head. Slightly understanding. It felt like there was never enough food to spare, after all she hadn’t eaten in a while. “What animal are you?” she wondered aloud, “you aren’t a caiman or a fish right?” Sayha tilted her head, didn’t look like a fish, but you never know.

The cub thought she was a fish-? Ah well, it is a cub so she can't really blame it. 'Im a giant river otter.' Spice flicked her tail, making marks in the muddy banks with her claws.

Aphrodite was sleeping in a high tree, purring gently. She woke up with a growl when she toppled out of the tree in her sleep.

Spice's fur bristled at the nearby thud, retreating into the water with a very audible splash.

Aphrodite sprung up at the splash, walking towards the sound with curiosity. Her cinnamon colored fur glittered in the reflection of the water as she made her way to the very edge.
