The otter tilted her head, observing the bittersweet interaction. Spice carefully made her way onto the top of a rock, keeping her distance. She could defend herself from these big cats, she just wasn't in the mood to lose a limb or two today.

Sayha

Her ears twitched at the sound of claw scraping against rock. Even though she was tiny, she still had her acute hearing. She looked around the clearing, seeing if she could see anything out of place. She thought she could smell something fishy, almost like the caiman her mother had brought her to eat. But this was a little different. She knew it wasn't a caiman because they stayed near water, wary of jaguars. Sayha's sense of smell wasn't very good so she couldn't tell what this mysterious scent was. She nudged Ash's leg trying to alert him.

Spice froze, noticing the kit's movement. Damn it. she'd been noticed. Maybe the others wouldn't pay much attention? She didnt have much else to do other than look at what else was happening. The giant otter's eyes narrowed, her gaze fixated on Sayha and hoping the young feline didnt tell the others her location.

Sayha

Ash didn't seem to notice, and now they were talking about boring stuff. She huffed. Maybe it was a caiman, and maybe she could make her first kill! Sayha sniffed around, trying to remember how her mother showed her. Her mother had told her to open her mouth and let the scents bathe a special organ on the roof of her mouth. And she did that, she realized how much she could smell now! She could now smell that the creature had fur, but still the same fishy smell. She couldn't pinpoint it but she knew what direction it was in. She leaped up onto the rock, and the smell became stronger. She looked around the bushes and saw something brown. She widened her eyes, wiggling her haunches getting ready to pounce. She leaped onto the brown object, clawing at it, and biting. She released her "prey" seeing it was just a log. She spit out the bark, wiping her tongue with her paws. "ew ew!" she hissed.

Spice's eyes widened, watching the cub with confusion and stifling a laugh. At least that eased her worries of being injured a little. Poor log, though. that was one of her favourite scratching logs. The otter intently watched the cub, stepping back slightly into the water. The movement made the stagnant water ripple, the lake made a very faint "plip" sound that caused Spice to flinch.

Sayha

Sayha's ears immediately perked up, her eyes scanning the boulder above her. She hissed softly, perhaps it was a caiman! She heard the soft splash of water, so maybe there was a river! Her mouth watered at the idea of ripping the thick skin and scales, and eating the softer, fattier part of their tails. Her pupils were wide now, slightly scared and excited. She made her way up and around the boulder, spotting an odd creature. This was no caiman! It was a... uh... Sayha tilted her head. She had never seen anything like it! She could tell the animal didn't know where she was because it hadn't looked in her direction quite yet.

Pricking her ears, the otter raised her head from the river and looked around in visible alarm. She eventually caught sight of Sayha and arched her back in defense, baring her sharp fangs. She didnt really like the larger predators in this area, didn't trust them. especially since she had to protect her kits. Spice's pupils thinned as she pinned her curved ears against her skull, her sleek fur dripping with water from the river.

Sayha

Sayha didn't really know danger when she saw it. To her this creature looked like some weird fish caiman thing. She leaped down from her perch, standing five tail-lengths away. When the creature bared its vicious teeth, she bared hers in return. She would show this new animal she was boss here! Sayha fluffed up her fur, Copying the animal, and arching her back as well. She let out sharp little squeaks, trying to roar and intimidate the animal into submission.

Spice narrowed her eyes, not sure how to react. this was new. The giant otter curled her upper lip in a snarl, making a short 'hah' sound which could either be a warning or submission- but since the female wasnt backing down, it was probably a warning call. She approached Sayha and slashed at the air near her face, not intending to hurt the young animal, but trying to give them a warning to back off.

Sayha

Sayha hissed, this animal wasn't backing down! Her mother had always told her jaguars were the kings of the forest. After all they could swim, climb, and run quickly! She rumbled angrily. She took a step back, not wanting to get hurt from the animals wicked claws. Sayha bared her teeth, her tail flicking from side to side. If she needed to, she could escape easily. She could climb up the tree behind her if needed. The young overly brave jaguar hissed sharply, this time it actually sounded like a hiss! She thought she sounded very scary, so she hissed again, this time pinning her ears.

The river otter hesitated, swiping her tongue over her upper maw briefly. She then bristled her fur to look bigger, snapping her teeth a few millimetres away from the jaguar kit's face as a threat, trying to scare her off.

Sayha

The cub was determined to prove she was strong! Maybe then her mother would realize her potential and come back to her! She flexed her still developing muscles, licking her lips, showing she wouldn't attack if the animal went into submission. She curled her lip, baring her long teeth meant for snapping the necks of caiman and antelope. Her throat rumbled with a growl.

Spice hissed. She'd fought birds bigger than this kit- she just didnt really want to attack the leopard cub because of her own experience with young ones. The river otter growled and slashed at Sayha's side, though trying not to harm her too much and only scraping at the feline's flank.

Sayha

Sayha squealed in surprise. She ran to the tree, trying to jump up. Even though the animal hadn’t harmed her badly, it had bruised her. She scrambled up the trunk sloppily, she cowered on the lowest branch, and whimpered. She licked the scraped skin, and looked down at the animal. What would her mother say if she had seen her daughter cower at an animal like this? Sayha was disappointed in herself, and just buried her head in her paws.

The otter paused, her gaze softened for a moment and she took a second to decide what to do. Spice raised her head to look at the cub and she let out an apologetic "mrrp" before sliding back into the river, her head bobbed near the surface like how a crocodile would swim.
