Ash glanced back to Aphrodite, sheathing his claws.
"I found her, she was hiding alone in the forest," he meowed, casting a gentle look to the cub between his paws.
He turned his eyes back to the grey creature and nodded at her response.

At hearing Ash's voice, Clove felt a wave of relief wash over her. She peeked out of the den, then dashed across to his side before sending Aphrodite a look of confusion.

Sayha

The minuscule cub looked at the two tigers, her instincts yelling at her to bolt. She looked at the other two creatures behind the much lighter tiger. She tilted her head, unsure. Sayha looked back up at the tiger and attempted at a hiss… or more like a squeak. “Not telling.” she mewed indignantly. The tiny cub puffed out her chest, confident now that the tigers hadn’t hurt her at all. She sat down, turning her head, yet her ears still pointed at the feline and the other animals. She looked at the more familiar tiger, the one who had taken her from her den. “Mama will be very, very, very, VERY mad at you mister stinky fur.” she huffed, scanning the undergrowth for any little sign of her mother.

Aphrodite chuckled. "That's okay. I'm Aphrodite." She rolled on her back, inviting her to play.

Sayha

The tiny jaguar tilted her head at the female tiger. She looked up at the tiger towering over her. Even though he had taken her, she was still slightly more comfortable with him. She waited for some reassurance. Sayha huffed when he stayed quiet and waddled over a few pawsteps closer towards the cinnamon tiger. “Fine… My name is Sayha, daughter of Malika.” she puffed out her fur proudly. She remembered her mother laying down with her and practicing that sentence hundreds of times over.

Aphrodite smiled. "Cool name! My mother was named 'Whiskers'. I know, stupid, right?"

"I don't think her name is stupid." she mrrowed, looking at her paws for a second. "What was your mama like?" the spotted cub inquired, tucking her tail neatly beneath her as she sat down. Sayha loved hearing stories, especially Malika's stories. Every night her mother would tell her about how the great chain revolved around all creatures, or how the great one made jaguars such fine hunters.

Aphrodite hesitated. "Well, she was... strong. Loving. Protective until it cost her." She rolled and laid down.

"What do you mean un-til?" she questioned, trying to groom her fur, trying to copy how her mother used to. She eventually gave up on that and softly batted a smooth pebble from paw to paw.

TW: PARENT DEATH AND ABUSE (kinda)






Aphrodite took a deep breath. "Well, we didn't live in the Savannah. There was no fresh prey or dried grass to hide or sleep in. Only humans handing you old meat chunks through metal bars." She sat up a little taller. "Our homes had no sky. Only a big tent with dusty sand floors. My mother would dance around, following directions from the human in a fancier pelt. The crowd would cheer and cheer. They loved her." She slumped a little. "One day, the human wheeled a larger cage with her in it onto the dusty floor and the crowd came to see her. Well, her lock wasn't on quite right, remember. My cage was placed next to her's and the people would come to see us. My mother would strut and be pretty and I would roll around and be cute. But then a smaller human stuck it's hand into my cage to pet me. My mother noticed and broke her cage trying to protect me. She only intended to scare it, but the human thought she was trying to hurt the small human." A tear threatened to fall. "He took out a stick and... well I never saw her again after that." She hesitated. "That was too much of a sad story, wasn't it? Sorry." She put her head on her paws.

Ash crouched down, giving Sayha a rough lick on her back when he saw her give up trying to groom herself. His ears twitched at Aphrodite's story, he tossed a quick glance to Clove who looked at Aphrodite with sad eyes. He turned back to Sayha and Aphrodite.
"Our mother met a similar fate at the hands of a human," He meowed solemnly.
"He just wanted her pelt though," Clove added softly. She let her tail rest gently on Ash's side for comfort.

Aphrodite sighed. "They used to call us the "Kings of the jungle." But I don't think kings should suffer such terrible fates." She rolled on her back. "Well there's no good in reliving the past! It already happened."

The giant otter clawed her way out from the hollow log, plopping into the water below and quickly pulling her paws closer to her underbelly. Spice sliced through the water quickly, stopping near a stone and climbing onto the banks to listen in on what was happening.

Sayha

Sayha's eyes widened at the tragic story. "I'm sorry about your mamas.." she squeaked sadly. "My mama used to tell me about the jaguar spirits in the trees, and the tigers in the stars! Maybe your mamas are there? We should try to look for them, don't cha think?" she brightened up at the prospect of reuniting all of them with their mothers. She didn't think her mother was in the trees, because she had promised Sayha to never leave her alone. Perhaps her mother had just gone a little farther than usual and gotten lost? She settled onto that idea. She looked up at the sunny sky, picturing the tigers roaming around the starry night, and the jaguars leaping from tree to tree, chasing birds away from their nests. She purred softly, leaning into Ash's strong forepaw.
