She padded out of her den. It was midday so the sun was at its hottest, definitely not hunting time. She sauntered down to the river nearby for a drink and to cool off. These summer days had been so hot lately.
The water was cool to the touch and refreshing. She flopped into the water, scattering the fish in front of her. Refreshing! she thought to herself. She spent another ten or so minutes in the water before taking shelter from the sun under a tree where she rested her jowls on her paws and watched as smaller animals returned to the water. They were lucky that this river hadn’t dried up yet.

As Mud passed another tree, she shook her head at the burning heat. The summer was never an easy time, and searching for water and shelter was what most of the lioness's day was made up of. Her paws were aching and only dragging themselves further through the forest in hopes of reaching a source to cool off in. Mud's gaze lingered around hesitantly as she spotted a thin river, making sure that there were no other lions around.
After a split second she began slowly trotting towards it, her energy had been lost on the search and her eyes were having trouble keeping open.
As soon as her paws reached the edge of the river she ducked down to lick up droplets of water, refreshing her immediately. Her vision instantly cleared up and with after a quick thought she jumped into the river. Although it might have seemed childish, Mud began splashing the water around, probably scaring away any prey in the whole forest however in that moment she had little to care for other than the sheer fun she was experiencing.

She crouches out of her den, crouching to check if anyone else whom she should have been hiding from, maybe stronger lions? None in sight, she then stood up straight wondering under the shades of the trees while not much sunlight meet with her fur in the shades of the trees. She wonders around for water, thirsty.

After a few moments of walking she comes across what seemed to be a river [ a few steps away from mud ].
She crouched down to take a few sips of water before splashing some of it on her paws before dozing off to sleep under a trees shade.

The scent of two lions floated along in the wind, both seemed to be coming from different directions. It had been a while since lions passed through these lands. She saw the occasional loaner or a pride moving to find better lands, but none seemed to stick around which surprised her. This was her own little oasis. Even in the thick of summer the river stayed, though it dwindled down from its original size.

She lazily stood and searched her surroundings. Her eyes landed on two lionesses who seemed to not notice one another. The water must have altered their scents to one another. she thought. Hopefully they didn’t mean any trouble and only wished to cool off with the sun beaming down on them.

“Splashing like that is going to scare our friends away.” she called out to the lion in the water as she gestured to the prey animals nearby. “There will be no food left if you make them feel unwelcome.” This lion obviously didn’t understand the way of these lands. “You give them peace and respect and they provide you with sustenance, thus is the way of these lands.” She chucked, shaking her head slightly.

Amethyst woke up from sounds of another lion, she rubs her blurry eyes, making them clear.
She then noticed two other lions, backing up a few paw steps away.

She backs up yet the lions are clear in sight, keeping an eye on both the lions while laying in the shades of a tree.
Both the lions were obviously no harm yet, who knows, its always good to keep an eye especially to strangers. Amethyst thought in her head as she stared at both lions, pinning her sight on both of them.

As the waves she created splashed against her brown fur and her excitement ans unlimited energy began to leave her she turned around to notice a lion speaking to her. She quickly registered what she had said and looked down, a but embarrassed at the thought that adult lionesses would have seen her playing around.

Mud quickly made her way back to the land and shook herself to get rid of the water that was dripping down her slim body. As she raised her head again she looked right into the lioness's eyes that had spoken to her.

"I wasn't aware that this land belonged to you. And neither was I of your rules of respect. Forgive me, I come from far away and I mean no harm to you two."

She sunk her head but not without making sure that she still saw the other two lions out of the corner of her eye. Even if they seemed peaceful she couldn't be careful enough, especially after she seemed to just have broken a rule ot theirs.

She chuckled again, “These lands belong to no one, I am just an inhabitant.” She took a few steps into the water and splashed some ashore. She had obviously come off too strong which wasn’t her intention. “The animals won’t return if they feel threatened. There is a balance to life itself and I only take what I need, unlike kings who hoard anything they can get.”

She stepped out of the water again, the sun instantly warming her again. How annoying. she thought there was no escape from this heat so she understood the lioness getting in the water. “I’m Lyla and I call these lands my home. This river is strong and continues to flow while others dry up.” She looked to the other lioness. “No need to hide love. I am not a threat, and my friend here-“ she looked to the first lioness, “hopefully won’t be a threat either.”

With a smile, she spoke again. “What brings you to these lands? I see some lions who pass through, but none stay. None besides myself.” She padded out of the water and shook some of the water off of her fur, the sun catching the droplets in the air.

The lioness slowly gets out of the tree's shade, yet her sight is pinned down on the two whom are still untrusted in her sight, she sat down, the sun finally glimmering on her fur.

Mud sighted relieved as the other spoke openly about the land bring free to wander on for any lion. So she wasn't in trouble, what a relief! She spoke up quickly as she noticed the lioness waiting for a response.

"I'm just passing by, my clan wasn't particularly fond of me, at least not a certain lioness who happened to be the King's daughter... Here I am, wandering with the leaves that the wind carries with it."

She seemed in lost in thoughts as she talked without really thinking about what she was saying. A twig broke behind her, signifying prey running around. Although she wasn't used to the rules of this territory or this one lioness but from her old pride she had learned ones that she was going to continue using.

- respect the prey after killing it by thanking the lions of the hunt (type of gods)

- do not eat before feeding your pride (or now the other lions with her)

- don't hunt more than you need (others may need the rest)

- etc...

She read of the list in her head that she had been taught as a student in her pride. Mud missed the fun she had with her fellow students when they ran away from the duties their teachers gave them and hiding from the full nursing mothers as kits. Again her mind had wandered off into memories and when another twig snatched she lifted her gaze back into the eyes of the questioning lioness.

"Let me introduce myself, my full name is Mud laying in Puddles, however you may call me Mud. I was given my name by my mother as a kit. What's your name and how may I call you? Both of you?"

Mud first looked at the still waiting lioness and then to the other lioness who seemed to hold back.

She smiled, relieved that the other lioness wasn’t a threat. “I’m Lyla, just Lyla. My mother didn’t believe in long names,” she chuckled, “my name means dark beauty.” The other lion was still quiet. “You need not be afraid, we are no threat to you if you are no threat to us.” Hopefully this other lion would find the courage to speak.

Amethyst then cleared her throat speaking up, trusting both of the lioness with information about her.

As the other two lionesses spoke Mud listened carefully so she wouldn't have to ask again later. Usually she was good with names but it could happen that she forgot which name belonged to whom... As Amethyst finished she smiled at her and raised her voice again.

"How pleasant to get to know you both, Lyla and Amethyst! I hope we can get along while staying on this territory."

Mud looked at Lyla, then Amethyst slightly nodding her head as to signify her friendliness and that she meant absolutely no harm. Although Lyla had said that it wasn't her territory but everyone's she didn't want to take it from the lion who had lived here for a long time, or even for ever.

"If both of you wouldn't mind, I'd like to go hunting soon. How about we talk further after a little snack somewhere private? I can't help but feel like the whole forest is listening to us."

The lioness chuckled, then waited for the other two to answer.

She smiled, both lionesses seemed to be opening up a little more. “That sounds wonderful! The prey here is bountiful, but yes, let’s move to a quieter place to discuss this. My home isn’t far from here if you follow me.” She looked at both lionesses, hoping that they would trust her.
