Shadeflower | Southern Fernclan territory| Froststar

Shadeflower nodded her ears still against her head as she looked towards the direction of the twolegs nest and homes.” Hopefully they give us something BEFORE they move any closer. I know they work in mysterious ways and all but why must they wait until the absolute worst moment to give news that could avoid any messy issues?” She sounding joking almost but she was still a little worried that would happen. She would not take it well if her clanmates were injured or worse and then Starclan waited to give some sort of message. She didn’t want to see anyone get hurt, but as Froststar had stated with twolegs comes dogs and with dogs there is serious danger.

Zing and Zang - Northern fernclan territory - dewleaf

The she cat's tail curled in delight and she gave a sideways glance to her brother, waiting for his input. Despite how much she mocked him she wasn't keen on going into a wild cat camp on her own. Zang's tense muscles relaxed at the confirmation though the twitching of his tail tip gave away his confident facade. He followed Dewleaf's gaze behind her, trying to stall to give himself time to think. 'Fine.' The tom sighed at last, mostly to his sister, who was practically trembling with excitement by now.

Zang paused, lowering his head to adjust the blue fabric around Zing's neck before looking back at Dewleaf. She seemed worried about something, what, he had no idea. 'How many cats are there?' The tom meowed, disguising his suspicion and keeping a still expression.

When he jumps, Riverstrike feels his claws dig into her fur. Her shaggy coat protects her from the pain that would've undoubtedly come from any cat digging into her sides, though she does feel a slight prick, nothing too painful.

"Well done." She says, shifting her paws to balance the additional weight. Had a larger cat done this, she'd no doubt be crushed to the ground, but Badgerpaw was still an apprentice, she could hold his weight without buckling.

"Now, in this position, cats will try and buck you off. If they succeed, you'll most likely land on your paws." She says, hunkering down and drawing herself into a slight crouch. "However, there's always a chance of hitting your back or falling onto your side. The leap and hold is a good position, but only for as long as you can keep on your opponents back."

She then shakes, the way dogs do when they're wet; weight shifting from side to side. She's testing just how long Badgerpaw will manage to keep his hold until he slips. The surrounding area is void of rocks, so he won't get hurt too badly if he does tumble off.

Froststar | Southern Fernclan Border | Shadeflower

Froststar gave a small laugh in reply. However she was right, Starclan had terrible timing. He would have to speak with Riverstrike about making a backup plan in case things went wrong in the forest. Froststar frowned, he hated the idea but it was better to be prepared than be caught by surprise. “Yes well, either way Fernclan will persevere and overcome whatever we have to go through.” Froststar said with a soft sigh, turning to face Shadeflower again. “When we get to your patch of coltsfoot, I’m going to do a quick patrol of the area.” He had been paying attention to their surroundings, and there was no need to be paranoid everything was calm. However, their conversation made the Tom paranoid.

Dewleaf | Northern Fernclan Border | Zing & Zang

Dewleaf was a bit surprised they actually agreed, but was glad they did. “Not many. We’ve shrunk in numbers since the Thunderpath came.” The she-cat responded, turning around towards where she left her vole.”Follow me, I need to grab my catch before we go back to camp… if it’s still there.” The Maine Coon began to trot off in the direction she had come from, trusting the two would follow. She hoped this would play out how she thought, but she’d find out soon. Dewleaf reached the spot where she left her vole and sighed in relief, it was still there. At least she wouldn’t come home empty pawed and with two strangers. She picked up the vole and then motioned with her tail for the two to follow her once more.

Badgerpaw | Fernclan Camp | Riverstrike & Salmonleap

Badgerpaw instinctively dug his claws deep when Riverstrike began to shake. He felt himself start to slip off the she-cats back, and not wanting to drag his claws down her flank with him, he let go. Badgerpaw rolled a few times before landing on his side, slightly winded from the tumble. In a real battle he couldn’t hesitate, he would have to sink his claws in and not let go. Badgerpaw got to his paws, a slight smile on his face and turned towards the two she-cats “Cool.”
The apprentice padded back over to the two, replaying the move in his head. “I’ll have to practice that some more, but I think it will be a great move to use to my advantage.” Badgerpaw said, excitement in his voice, “thank you for teaching me Riverstrike, I appreciate it.”

Shadeflower | Southern Fernclan territory| Froststar

The she cat nodded as they approached the patch of coltsfoot.” I suppose patrolling is probably a good idea, to make sure they haven’t come any further down this way. And to see that none of the dogs have strayed away from the twolegs.” She stated as she gently began picking the coltsfoot, her eyes flickered towards Froststar, she could tell the leader was worried and paranoid.”Dont worry Froststar I’m sure everything is fine around here.” She didn’t add the ‘for now’ part like she wanted too because she knew that would probably just make him even more paranoid.” If you’re not careful with all that worrying and paranoia of yours, you’re going to end up stuck with me all day so I can monitor you and you wouldn’t want that now would you?” She stated obviously joking at the last bit. But she was serious if his anxiety about this got any worse she was going to keep monitoring him very closely.

Hoping you meant vole and not coke D: //

Zing and Zang - Northern fernclan territory - dewleaf

'Thunderpath?' The tom trailed after quietly, staring at Dewleaf with confused expression. The steady trot of his sister beside him sped up as she caught up with the wild cat, tail raised in a friendly greeting. Odd looking plants brushed by her paws, now visible as the low mist had mostly cleared out. Zing found much more fascination in the vole Dewleaf was holding, however. The young cat's eyes widened in awe at this cat, apparently having not thought that wild cat's did, in fact, hunt for things. 'Did you kill that??'

Riverstrike stops shaking once he falls off, standing back to her full height, head turning to smooth down her fur which had gotten a bit ruffled.

She isn't too concerned about the fall since Badgerpaw seems finez and young cats are always bouncing back - especially from little falls like that.

"It's not problem Badgerpaw." She says, giving a slight dip of her head as she nods. "If you aim higher up next time, you can make even the largest of warriors crash headfirst into the ground." There were few cats who could handle additional, and sudden, weight near the head - an interesting spin on the classic technique that she'd figured out through trial and error. "And I trust your hunting is also going well?"

(( omg o.o edited, didn’t even notice oopsie, this is why I shouldn’t try and type on mobile))

Froststar | Southern Fernclan Territory | Shadeflower

“You’re right, I’m sure everything is fine here.” He agreed with a nod, scanning the area. Froststar smiled at Shadeflower’s comment about her having to monitor him and let out another soft laugh. “Well, I wouldn’t exactly mind that.” Froststar replied, smiling at her. “I won’t be far, and I’ll make my patrol brief.” The large Tom continued, changing the subject. “Yell if you need me.” Froststar added, padding off towards the direction of the Thunderpath. He wasn’t going to get close, but it was the area he was most concerned about and wanted to make sure there were no new developments. The Maine Coon stayed alert as he approached. The Thunderpath was quiet, no monsters in sight. Froststar began to search the area, keeping an eye out for anything new. Froststar had noticed the absence of prey since the two got to the coltsfoot patch, and the same was to be said here. He could hear birds chirping from further away, but nothing close. There was no smell of squirrels, mice, voles, or anything familiar. There was just the strong, bitter smell of the Thunderpath. Perhaps that’s what was scaring all the prey from this area.

Dewleaf | Northern Fernclan Territory | Zing & Zang

Dewleaf realized she may be walking too fast, and slowed down to the pace of the other two. “Yes, it’s for our fresh kill pile at camp. Most everyone learns to hunt, and if not they contribute to the clan in other ways.” Dewleaf said, if they didn’t hunt, what did they eat? “What do you eat? You don’t hunt? Do the two-legs feed you?” Dewleaf was so interested in their life, know that she felt a little more comfortable she felt like she could ask them more questions.

Badgerpaw | Fernclan Camp | Riverstrike & Salmonleap

Badgerpaw took in her advice, making a mental note to aim higher the next time he practiced this move. He snapped out of thought to answer Riverstrike’s question. “Yes. Although I need to practice my… fishing.” Badgerpaw hissed the last part out quietly. He hated fishing and he hated the water. However, during Leaf-Bare, the forest pond and stream were life savers for the clan; sometimes the only prey they would get until Green-Leaf. “I am not the biggest fan of the water.” He mumbled, a bit embarrassed.

It hate typing on mobile for that reason lol//:

Shadeflower | Southern Fernclan territory| Froststar

Shadeflower nodded her ears perking up as she was now more alert since Froststar was a little further away. She put her coltsfoot down in a hidden place as she looked to se did any new herbs had grown.” I doubt there will be those twolegs and their dogs ruined most of them.” She grumbled as she looked around sniffing the air cautiously. She was nervous that while Froststar was away from her a dog or twoleg would try and come grab her. And what could she do? At most was claw at them since she was a medicine cat and knew basically zero battle moves. She continued looking around thinking she heard a twoleg or two a little off ways in the distance she hissed softly.” Why did they feel the need to move closer?!” She grumbled as she looked around to ensure Froststar was still alright.

Zing and Zang - fernclan territory - dewleaf

Zing paused to consider this question, craning her head upwards. She stared into the sun that peeked through the over canopy, awe glistening behind her eyes. Zang sighed and nudged his sister, gently reminding her to answer the question. His help was rewarded with an almost immediate smack that did little harm to him, as Zing couldn't really reach up to his face. 'We eat pellets. Like little smushed pebbles with food in them, they taste like dirt.' The she replied at last, making a dramatic disgusted face. She highlighted the word "smushed" with delight, finding it funny. 'Zang eats them. I tried to hunt but the fur is sticky.' She huffs and completely ignores the flicker of amusement behind her brother's expression, as he greatly debated telling her that what she was "hunting" was in fact a cat toy and not actual food.

"There's nothing wrong with not liking water. Plenty of cats prefer land hunting to water hunting. I know I do." Riverstrike says, mimicking what she thinks is a reassuring tone. She's always copied the way other cats spoke when it came to being comforting, otherwise the words just seemed to come out wrong. Young cats often needed a confidence boost, it was how they succeeded.

"You should do what suits you best." She continues after a moment. "If you don't want to fish, perfect your land hunting skills to make up for it."

Riverstrike herself hadn't been a fan of water hunting, fishing was a pain and she hated the icky feeling of sitting sometimes for hours with a constantly wet paw; trying to snag a fish only for it to swim away; the feeling of a wriggling body making her grimace. Of course, her mentor never accepted any excuses or complaints, and had trained her until she was an adequate fisher. Despite that, she only fished if necessary.

Froststar | Southern Fernclan Territory | Shadeflower

Froststar’s ears flattened to his head and the tom dropped into the lowest crouch he could. He heard them, two-legs. The black cat slunk into the bushes, cautiously following the sound. Now he saw them. They were far. Far enough to not be able to catch up to either of the cats, but too close for the Leader’s comfort. He immediately thought of Shadeflower and sniffed the air, she was still close by. With another look towards the two creatures, Froststar ran in the direction Shadeflower’s scent was coming from. He came to a halt when he saw her, still remaining in a crouched position. “Shadeflower, down.” He whispered, making his way closer to the Medicine Cat. If the two-leggeds tried to come closer, he would protect her. “There are two-legs near… two of them. We should leave now.” Froststar explained, continually scanning the area. He didn’t see any dogs with them, and he didn’t smell any. He knew they could outrun a two-leg, but a dog? Froststar shook the thought out of his head, he had to focus and stay alert.

Dewleaf | Northern Fernclan Territory —> Fernclan Camp | Zing & Zang —> Riverstrike

Smushed dirt? Like… mud? They ate mud? Dewleaf scrunched up her nose at the thought, she definitely preferred her wild caught food. They surely couldn’t survive on mud, but Dewleaf couldn’t comprehend what kind of food the she-cat was referring to. “That sounds… gross.” Dewleaf commented, but she figured the idea of eating dead birds and mice sounded gross to them as well. “Maybe you will be allowed to take something from the kill pile. If you are I’d recommend this here vole or a mouse. Oo or even a fish!” Dewleaf became lost in thought for a moment, she was starving. However that would have to wait. They were almost there, Dewleaf recognized the gnarled roots of the old redwood leading towards camp. The warrior came to a stop, motioning with her tail for Zing and Zang to stop as well. She set down her vole and turned to face the younger cats. “You two wait here for a moment.. Froststar and Riverstrike would be livid if I just allowed you to walk right into camp.” Dewleaf said, clearly nervous. They would probably be livid anyway. “I will be right back, promise.” The she-cat said before picking her vole back up and padding into camp
Dewleaf entered camp and looked around. She quickly spotted Riverstrike having a conversation with Badgerpaw and Salmonleap. However Froststar was nowhere in sight. Perhaps he had gone out on a patrol already. She gulped anxiously and went to set down her vole in the pile before walking up to the group. “Riverstrike, hello.” The she-cat greeted the Deputy, offering the she-cat a nervous smile. “I-I’m sorry to interrupt but I would like a quick moment of your time.” Dewleaf continued, glancing at her two clanmates.

Badgerpaw | Fernclan Camp | Riverstrike, Salmonleap & Dewleaf

The Deputy’s comment was, in fact, reassuring to Badgerpaw. The tom often felt like he had to be the best in every skill, and it was nice to know he didn’t have to be. “Yes, yes that’s exactly what I will do.” Badgerpaw chirped, he could do that. He was a fantastic mouser, perhaps over time he could even focus his efforts on bigger prey such as squirrels or eventually even a hare.

Badgerpaw’s excitement vanished for a moment as their conversation was, yet again, interrupted. He wondered what Dewleaf had to talk to Riverstrike about that couldn’t wait for Froststar’s return. The tom rolled his eyes, he felt comfortable enough with Dewleaf to be able to do that. After all, she helped take care of him when his own family passed. Well, he could take this time to grab a bite then. Badgerpaw got to his paws, he got the hint. “Thank you for your time Riverstrike. I look forward to going on a patrol later.”
The tom began to pad off and froze. What was that smell? What was that smell on Dewleaf? He turned to actually look at Dewleaf, she was nervous. He sniffed again and his fur bristled slightly. She smelt faintly of another cat, one he didn’t recognize. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously before continuing towards the fresh kill pile, picking out a small mouse for himself.

Shadeflower | Southern Fernclan territory| Froststar

She ducked down like the leader had said her ears now flattened against her head as she crept over to her coltsfoot patch carrying it in her jaws.” Let’s go back to camp Froststar.” She said the she cat now obviously quite frightened now at the thought that there could be a dog with those twolegs. She looked towards Froststar for a sort of comfort she had him with her, he would be able to protect her right? Probably he was the leader after all. She moved closer to the Tom her tail swishing back and forth behind her as she waited for the leaders signal to move.

(Sorry mines a little shorter I’m on mobile at the moment!)

Well, considering Badgerpaw's reaction, she thinks she managed to be comforting just fine.

She gives the tom a nod, hearing Dewleaf's pawsteps before seeing her. Her head turns to the other she cat, unable to stop the way her eyes immediately narrow at the scent wafting from her coat. Foreign cats, that could not be good.

She immediately assesses the warrior, noting how she didn't display any injuries, nor any signs of looking like she'd been in a battle.

"Very well." She only halfway hears Badgerpaw's words as he's leaving, her gaze returning to Dewleaf.

"What's the matter?" She inquiries, already thinking the worse.

Zing and Zang - Fernclan camp

The she sat her haunches onto the damp ground below, waiting surprisingly patiently. Her kneading paws against the soil gave away her eagerness, and she kept snapping her head up glance at her brother. Zang simply set his gaze on the entrance of this odd wild cat camp, breathing in the myriad of new scents that clung to the roof of his mouth like a stubborn ivy plant.

'If we get killed, Its your fault.' The tom commented wryly, moving his eyes instead of his head to look at his sister. Zing stopped in her observations to glare at him, spitefully throwing a stick that bounced harmlessly off her brother's flank. 'You agreed to it? So it'd be your fault too.' The she retorted and sat up, following her brother's gaze to face the entrance tunnel. Zang sighs, turning his head back and pushing back the temptation to just go home, and leave his sister here. No use having this back and forth arguing.

'Fine.' He huffed reluctantly, leaving the silence to hang in the air till he added, 'I hope you fall into a thorn bush.'
Zing stared at him, faking an offended gasp. 'How dare you? So immature.' The she held a paw close to her face, delighted by the bristling fur of her brother. If there was one thing Zang hated, it was being called immature. He decided to drop it and go quiet, recoiling a little when his sister padded over seconds later to lie down next to him, apparently already over the recent back and forth insults.
