I thought I'd post this here, since I see so many people who see no improvement in their own art, even though in reality you're improving every time you draw. This is the improvement I've made in the space of a year.

January 2015

You WILL get better, please have total faith in yourself and practise. Don't lose your passion and drive for art. <3

I don't exactly know any artists....at all. I never payed attention to those at the museum if that's what your talking about. I always thought the skills were amazing...but kinda boring. :T

Museums have that effect I guess.

You can mimic the style of another artist without copying a particular piece of work. In fact, I have taken a lot of inspiration from a few artists on Lioden. I take from the way Xy does his dark brown, sketch-like lineart, I take from Hlaorith's smooth, blended colouring, I take inspiration from the soft way Shu draws their eyes, I take inspiration from many, many artists across this site and also DeviantArt who I follow. You can do that without copying someone's work directly.

That's one thing I enjoyed about the art class I did take. We took the styles of many well known artists and we had too mimic the style in our own way. ^-^ Made it more enjoyable.

@Xylax

Yes, but I can't do that without knowing what to type into the search bar. Without words, I have no knowledge.

But I still think I won't be doing any improving no matter what I try.

I've never taken art school. Wasn't raised up by an artistic family what so ever. Nobody ever bothered to teach me how to draw. Tutorials I struggle with.

Yeah, not a very bright future, though I love drawing very much...

Can't help if you negate everything I give as an advice and don't even try. Sorry Clock, but good luck either way.

You can only try, Clock. <3 And I hope your opinion changes to be more positive in the future, and you find the heart to continue trying. ^^

@Xylax

It's not that I'm being negative and not even trying.

It's just everyone gives the same advice. It's always 'Oh be positive' and 'Just practice and you'll be great!'. Ugh...and I've already tried all the tricks and tips and tutorials that was suggested to me in the past. Being positive just isn't for me.

If everyone who is somewhat good at art gives same advice, means that's what works :o Being good at something NEVER comes easy. Life is hard, and without work and overcoming difficult obstructions, you don't get anywhere.

If you're struggling, take things one step at a time, change your tool, try fresh on something new.

@Clock. It doesn't come easy for everyone. It doesn't. I have been drawing since I was way little and I am still not satisfied with where I am at, though I do recognize the improvement. Everyone gives the same advice for the same reason. Because it works. It will not be instantaneous. It will take fail after fail, attempt after attempt before you start getting to where you want to be. People are always going to give the same advice, because honestly, that's really the only advice.

Art and negativity simply don't mix. Even if you've tried everything before, sometimes you simply have to try the same methods over and over again - if those still aren't helping, you simply move on to another. I'm still pretty bad at drawing myself, but if I look at past pictures and what I can do now, and I see even the tiniest improvement, that means it's working.

As I'm sure you've heard before - if at first you don't succeed, try again.

@Kat & Xylax

Well I guess I'm Just a different kind of artist. You guys really need to find new advice, because not everyone's the same ya know?

Everyone seems to take me as 'everybody' instead of 'meM and just gives the same repeated, worn out, dull advice. :T

I'm not suggesting you tailor to me, but I'm not going to get there with your advice. Perhaps I need somebody else's.

No one in my house is artistically inclined, and even some of my old art teachers told me I'd never improve and to give up. I've only just started taking classes, but everything else I did on my own accord.
Art doesn't depend on how artsy your family is, heck, all my family can do is draw stick people. You've got to be determined enough to keep trying, no matter how hopeless it might seem at times.
