As Finn said, the economy story doesn't make sense, they just want more people to buy beetles. But catering too heavily to the big spending hardcore players will be a crappy idea in the long run. If casual players lose interest, the player base shrinks and the hardcore players have no competition or companionship, eventually driving them away too.
Larger player base = more money = more cool cat content.

I personally thought about buying some beetles, but I think I'm going to hold out for now. If they keep this habit up with more items or events, then it's not worth the money...

I dont even know if i want to buy the buff balls now ;-; its all i was saving up for and i have 701 db.... i had a plan to buy 1 buffy balls, then breed to 1 man eater :/ now idk if i wanna do either.
I can understand making the bars higher because the ld community has been growing a bit but i dont understand jumping prices up. Theyve made the bars harder to unlock before, idc about that it makes sense to me, but never have i seen them jump up prices like this! It kind of bums me out personally because i dont come on to ld to vigourously explore, breed, and buy gb. I come on here as more of a stress reliever, just sit down for a minute and forget everything else ya know? And so the one year i actually go for breeding stuff the prices are risen!
And yeah, i mass breed ncls all the time, i like getting the mutes from my king and stuff but im not breeding for stats or looks and 90% die or get killed anyway! Idk, its just frustrating.

I just noticed the change and I'm pretty upset about it too. 500 dry bones was already fairly high. This is the fourth time I have experienced this event and I know that even extremely active players like me have not been able to get more than a few over the course of the month. In fact, when I read in the news post that there may be a change to Peddler prices, it didn't even occur to me that the price would be going up. I get at least 4 times as many buffalo scrotum each February and no change has ever been made to the Flirt shop before. If the increase was made to moderate the number of buff nuts ingame, it makes no sense to me that the restrictions have been put on this event.

Another thing is that the Peddler shop isn't the only thing dry bones are used for. The event studs are also popular and cost 200DB per breeding...I've noticed that isn't mentioned in the event post, so perhaps that's changing this year? If so, I don't really understand why. It has always been fairly effective as a DB sink. And now the amount of DB being found in explore has dropped as well.

If staff wanted to moderate things, that's fair enough. Lioden has more active players than ever before and some adjustments are probably inevitable. What's got me upset is that all these changes are being made without any fair warning. As a player and customer, I expect more stability and professionalism than this. :(

I am honestly disappointed just like some of the others. I dont really have high hopes now for next month because I feel like they are going to raise the prices for GMOs too :/ I just dont feel as excited as anymore.

EDIT: Nevermind. XD As Heda and Myriad told me, an item can only be listed as coming from one shop in the catalog, so it's fine.

Item catalogue doesn't have the capability to list the same item in more than one location - even though it's technically listed as being in both places on the actual item page for buffy balls. Things like scrotes and giant torts that are in multiple shops only actually display in one when you filter by location.
