A feminine, monotone voice echoes through the halls of a suburban family home, "An estimated 250 dogs live at the plant itself, 225 in the city of Chernobyl, and hundreds more roam around, for a total of more than 1,000, according to SPCA International. Wolves and the need for food have driven the dogs from wooded areas surrounding the plant into the Exclusion Zone." Suddenly, a sharper female voice cuts in. "Don't watch something so depressing, sweetie. The puppies are fine." The screen goes black.

setting music
The city is picturesque from the television screen. Though living amongst the crumbling, overgrown, radioactive buildings is another hell entirely. Dogs whose ancestors were abandoned by their masters in order to escape the explosion generations ago still remain here to this day, too far into the Exclusion Zone to be saved by any humans residing outside of Chernobyl. Many have been born with birth defects, sometimes visible but more often affecting their minds, organs and lifespans. Two major packs have risen out of the dust, Abolition and Insurgent. The packs have always been at odds but due to the encroachment of wolves and low resources, space is low and tempers are at an all time high. Can they come together to overcome the odds or will their own greed tear them down?

Two Abolition dogs have been killed by Insurgent pack members. This has caused unrest in both packs.

A massive snow storm has swept over Chernobyl, bringing an early winter and a shortage of supplies.

Sana | Location: Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Demesu, Fiorello

A sigh escaped her parted lips as her son once again ended their conversation, not that it was a very engaging one to begin with. Just like his father. The thought snuck it's way into her mind like a snake, striking at her very core. She faltered if only for a moment, taking a second to pause, looking over her shoulder once again.

Though it wasn't the walking stack of fur she called her son that her eyes fell upon. In fact it was quite the opposite, a pale figure with short white hair was huddled into an alleyway. Sana's eyes felt themselves become glued to him, maybe... it? What exactly was it, an actual dog, or possibly a ghost, if so just what happened here?

Demesu | Location: Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Sana, Fiorello

Demesu's pointed ears flicked softly towards his mother's sigh, his large head lowered as he looked away. The large fluff ball couldn't dare to meet her gaze, a gaze that would never reach him. He started with a sigh of his own, "I know I'm not really talking to you right now, but my head's just in another place right now and I--" He paused, looking back to the spotted dog in front of him. Her eyes weren't on him, and she wasn't listening to him. Demesu turned following her gaze to the new figure that hid inside the alley. A soft click carried itself to his ears, the simple noise and sight setting him on edge. What should he do, where could he go, this place was completely new and it wasn't him home. How could he protect his mother if it ever came to that, please never let it come to that.

Aramis | Insurgent Scout | Location: Insurgent Territory
Mentions: Isa, Raymond

Aramis's head thrashed side to side as she held on to the boars shoulder, the boar staggering under it before Isa would latch onto its snout. Her jaws tightened to secure her jaws in place as the beasts forelegs buckled under Isa's weight as she tugged downward at the same time. When it eventually fell on its side, Aramis would tear her teeth away, skin and blood coming along with it. It took her a few heartbeats for Aramis to pinpoint the beasts throat from it's thrashing to gain its footing, but once she wasted no time in diving forward, jaws fastening around the beasts throat.
The boars thrashing increased significantly at this, but Aramis was unrelenting, paws digging into the earth to keep herself stable.
By now the boar was running out of air from Isa's hold on it's snout, and even more so with Aramis's tight hold on it's throat, so it didn't take terribly long for the beast's struggling to falter. It's thrashing grew few and far between, and only when it ceased altogether for a moment before she would loosen her grip, not letting go quite yet. A few moments later Aramis pulled away, flanks heaving as she panted, bright, spotted pink tongue hanging low from her maw.
Trembling with adrenaline, the dame failed to notice Raymond hiding away in the distance, too distracted by her kill at the moment.

Raymond | @Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Isa and Aramis.
(repost

She ran away, lightly sniffling ( what a crybaby :eye_rolls: ) Raymond somewhat ran into the bush making a little squeak as she tumbled out of the leaves and tripped. Raymond shook the leaves off her dusty fur, she looked around panting as she continued to wander the territory.

She saw two figures in the distance, it made her heart beat out of her chest but was relieved that it was only Isa and Aramis. But she was still afraid that Isa's would scold her for sneaking up on them, Raymond hid under the bushes. Watching them both.

Reo | Abolition Scout | Location: Abolition Camp | Mentions: [Direct] Ferrer, Shiloh

Reo dropped his ears as Ferrer went on despite the suggestion he made. Perhaps that definitely wasn't the best thing to say. Well, he knows Ferrer didn't take offense to it. The canine looked back at Shiloh and sighed as well. Well, at least his sister and Reo are here if anything happens. 'I'm sure Shiloh is a remarkable dog.' He watched the bigger dog marched his way first before reluctantly following.

The tall grass was actually a big difficulty for the smaller and much skinnier dog. Reo wasn't heavy at all and he often had a difficult time pushing the tall grass out of the way effectively. As the three got closer to the area, a cat's smell floated into his nostrils. It wasn't an unfamiliar scent as there are plenty of felines around the areas. They never bothered their pack so the scout typically left them alone.

The brown canine finally reached the end of the tall grass and he got a small break. His eyes focused on Ferrer and how he collected the herbs. It didn't seem like such a big pile, but what did he know. Maybe those herbs could actually last for months, or maybe just a few days. The roots were even still intact. Healers sure are amazing. Then the dog shook his head and go his mind back on track. Work. Work. Work. Reo got up from where he was sitting and made his way, circling around the area. There were different scents of rodents and still that one feline. The three dogs were also fairly close to the Insurgent's pack but still in their own territory. There was some other scent that was lingering in his nose but wasn't quite sure of it. Reo wanted to investigate further but he also couldn't leave the other two alone. He peered at the older dog still picking up herbs and then changed his gaze over to the other scout. He would love to make conversation with them both but figured that they were doing their own respectful tasks.

β€” Shiloh | she/her | Location: Abolition territory | Mentions: Reo & Ferrer

The familiar, yet unfamiliar scent she’d picked up only moments ago caused the dog to be on edge; jerking her head towards even the slightest of noises, or throwing occasional looks over her shoulder to ensure they weren’t being trailed after. Shiloh knew very well that she was taking it too serious, but the rational thoughts and the irrational thoughts seemed to clash in that head of her’s as she pushed through the stout grass. And even if there was a dog from their opposing pack, it was only a single scent– there’s three of them. With the trio of the scouts and healer, she was sure that they’d barely even have to bat an eyelash, any smart canine would know better than to take on such a challenge. Shiloh knew her older brother was well educated in combat, and as was she– less so, but it counts, Shiloh was sure Reo was capable of handling a dog himself as well. Not to mention the fact that the three of them were all of slightly intimidating size, Ferrer especially. Shiloh was safe, she was safe with them– she just had to convince herself as much.

Finally reaching the trio’s destination; Shiloh stood watch for a few moments before, like Reo, she set off to cast about for anything unusual. Nothing seemed to catch the female’s interest, dubbing it safe. The dog watched as the large wirey mix pulled herbs from the soil ever so gently, careful to to ruin the roots. It was incredible how he managed to do such a thing really, Ferrer had the patience that not many dogs have these days.

With a flick of an ear, Shiloh set off to a spot she’d checked over when they’d first arrived. She poked around the undergrowth briefly before spotting what she was in search of. The little bunches of yarrow wildflowers lay by the hedges, using her teeth to break the stem carefully. Tail swaying back and forth in an eased happiness, Shiloh swiftly wedged a small cluster of white flowers behind Ferrer’s ear before she made her way over to Reo, offering a few of the little wildflowers to him with a soft smile on her muzzle.

Fiorello | Loner | Location: Insurgent Territory
Mentions: Sana, Demesu.

He tensed, his hackles raising as the scarred canine stopped and turned to look at him. He stared back, wide eyed. His body slowly raised from the ground but his head remained hanging low. It was an odd position, somewhat submissive but also defensive. Like a feral animal. He lifted a paw and stepped to the side, causing his stance to become wider. Why were they just standing there? He inhaled sharply through his nose as the other canine met his gaze. He was doomed.

"I-I don't want any trouble." He stammered out, hopeful that the words might shoo the canines away, but they came out a lot weaker than intended. "My pack is near. I c-can alert them." He bluffed. I was an obvious lie. His coat held no scent of a pack. They don't know that. He soothed himself in his mind, leaning back against the brick wall as he awaited their responses.

Isa | Insurgent Leader | Location: Insurgent Territory
Mentions: Aramis, Raymond.

Isa kept her jaws clamped like a vise around the hog's snout. She held her grip until the animal had grown still, it's breath no longer wheezing out through her teeth. Only then did she let go, watching as it's blood-spattered head flopped to the ground. She stepped back, straining to catch her breath while she tried to flex the stiffness out of her jaw. A soft crash through the brush was quick to catch her attention, causing her to glance over momentarily. Her first guess was that it could possibly be another boar, still scrambling from earlier. Though as she studied the weeds with her un-clouded eye she could just make out the familiar spattered pelt of their healer. Her lip peeled back in annoyance at first, but as she glanced back down at beast lying at her paws her anger faded. She could be of use.

"Come out." She ordered to the lurking figure, finally rising to her feet. She couldn't quite calm the shaking in her limbs as she stood. The adrenaline was beginning to wear out, and she could feel the ache it left behind. "We shouldn't linger around. The faster we get this back the better." She directed to Aramis, barely giving the other female time to recover from the struggle. "At least we'll have a bit of help." She added, digging her teeth into one of the boar's front legs and yanking it with all of her might.

Ferrer | Abolition Healer | Location: Abolition Territory
Mentions: Reo, Shiloh.

Ferrer had stopped his collecting. Staring down at the small pile of herbs, he had seemingly gotten lost in thought. I've collected all there is to gather. He hummed softly. This wasn't much, but he would just have to grin and bear it for the time being. Shiloh's cold nose brushing past his face made him lurch back into focus. He glanced up, his ear flicking slightly. What is the lass doing? He stared at her back as she offered a small bundle of flowers to the other scout. Completely unaware of the wildflower tucked behind his ear.

"Looks like we're finished here." He finally spoke up, clearing his throat. He stepped forward and scooped the cluster of wormwood stalks into his mouth. "You have anywhere else to go?" He questioned them both, eyes glancing further into the territory. Camp had been empty and he was still curious about the strange scent they had stumbled on earlier. It might be worth checking out further. However, that was entirely up to them. He wasn't about to go bossing them around like he had any authority.

Raymond | @Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Isa and Aramis.

She yelped, now springing out of the bushes. Raymond bowed her head quickly `` I'm sorry! I didn't mean to sneak up on you!`` Raymond looked up at Isa, she remembered when those eyes were still full of life from her puphood. She closed her eyes letting out a silent sigh, the dog rose her head backing up a bit from the much larger female in front of her. She tried to smile at her but that cold stare made her look away.

Name: Milo | Location: Abolition Territory | Mentions: None

Milo trotted through the streets of Chernobyl, exploring his new home. The Abolition pack had taken him in several days prior after he'd accidentally stumbled into some of the pack's members. He was slowly settling in, but he did like heading out for walks on his own sometimes. To clear his head and think about things.

Did anyone even notice I left? Milo wondered as he glanced up at the buildings. Meh. I'll be back before I'm missed. He shook off his thoughts with a little bark and spun around to chase his tail. It was nice to be carefree again.

Sana | Location: Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Demesu, Fiorello

Oh, it spoke- no he spoke, a real-life dog not the haunting figure of a ghost. Relief filled her body for only a moment before his next words sent a shock through her. A pack, that would not be a good thing to deal with right now, not while her body still ached from her injuries. And who knows how Demesu would react, the anxious dog hadn't much experience in that department of life.

"Please, we're not here to cause any trouble. In fact, we were simply searching for a place to hunker down before the sky turns fully dark. We want nothing to do with a pack." The last sentence came out with a spit of malice, fully unintentional of the older dog, though she was fine to let it sit. "I'm not wanting a fight or any disputes, it is simply that your appearance caused a sudden fright. I was not expecting to meet a ghost." Sana's reply was quick to return to her normal honeyed tone, a soft smile flashing along with it, anger and worry were not emotions she often expressed.

Demesu | Location: Insurgent Territory | Mentions: Sana, Fiorello

The heavily spotted dog, felt his body freeze as the white dog spoke. He would bring his pack, he'd bring horrors and pain to his family. No, they'd have to leave, there were already too many scents around, whether they came from the new figure or from the surrounding environment. Demesu was not a fan of all the possibilities around them, there was no doubt they'd left their scent in this unfamiliar territory.
His heart was soon to calm, as Sana's voice rung out into the streets. They wouldn't have to fight or run away, at least that was Demesu's hope. A hope that was short lasted as the malice and anger-coated words fled into the cold air, rushing from his mother's tongue.

The wild flurry of emotions that the 2-year-old mutt felt in the short span of this darkening day were possibly more than he's felt in his waking life. If only this moment could end, and the small family could hurry on their way to a new place, a new home. "We should go." The whisper scurried from him, meant only for his mother's ears. "I don't like it here-" He was cut off by his mother's tail landing softly on his snout, a silent way to tell him to quiet up.

Mariah wrinkled her nose as she followed Raymond after she dashed through the bushes, noting that there was the scent of death on the air. I hope everyone's alright.. She quickened her pace to catch up to Raymond, but failed to do so before she was noticed by Isa. Oh. They were hunting. Perhaps they need help dragging their catch back to camp. "Good evening Isa, Aramis, Raymond. Do you need any help?" She stepped forward out of the bushes, just barely visible over the tall grass.

Name: Fang | Location: Insurgent/Abolition Borders --> Insurgent Camp | Mentions: Mavy

Standing still, he awaited. As a black and dark brown, skinny with floppy ears and it's front right leg missing. Out of instinct, he attacked at the throat of the unsuspecting victim. Blood dripped from the area of impact, devastating.
And the body, fell limp. Dropping down onto the dirt.

For a moment, it felt like he was in slow-mo. A single second felt like years worth of time. Fang, would've felt something by now, although he felt hallow. Remorseless. The guilt flooded in. Along with that guilt, was a little bit of panic.

The Abolitions would soon to be alerted of the news of a dead pack member at their borders with Insurgent. Fang could only imagine what could happen. And what he could do? Nothing.

There was nothing he could do, so he felt the best thing was to go back to camp. Hiding the corpse, keeping the information away from the other pack was useless with the disappearance of a pack member. Still leading to many suspicions.

And there he was. The hospital that seemed to be his home, even if it gave horrible memories, he still found it's presence relaxing. Looking around nervously, observing every corner to try not to look like he just killed another dog.

Slate had just returned with some hares when Fang slunk into camp smelling of blood and death. Slate watched him from a distance as he tried to inconspicuously sneak back in. "Fang." He greeted him with a solemn nod. "You smell of death, did something happen?" His question was less a question and more a command, as his voice didn't turn up at the end the way most do when asking a question.
