Vera stuck her tongue out at Rory below. And Ronan laughed at Rory, "Hah! Can't you do anything by yourself?!" He playfully pushed him with his paw, not protesting about the watering hole.

He shoved his brother back. “But I don’t want to go yet! We haven’t even seen it!” He sat down in protest.

She snarled at the cub. “Rory! Get up, it’s time to go.” She was stressing more now. They never should have left the den. She nudged him forward and they began to walk, Vera in her grasp again.

Ronan didn't understand his mothers tone, so he went back beside Rory, giggling, "Yeah Rory, get up" he smacked his behind (NOT THE BUTT) teasingly. He smelt fear on his mother, why was she stressing so much?

Nire's ears flicked to the direction of the returning roar from Lyla. With a sigh she got up and her ears pinned back again. It was annoying. Having to tuck her tail just because of some rogue. At the very least males were useful for situations like this but without the father of Lyla's cubs around it would be pretty hard to trust any male in the area. Again her ears flicked and her tail started thrashing. He can't be here What in the world was she thinking, just letting some male roam their territory. Just remembering that mangy male from before who thought he could just push them around pissed her off.

Thinking back, She snarled, the hair on her neck raising. That roamer was barely a half mane. Since she had been caught off guard, she backed off before getting a proper look at the male. He was small, barely bigger than her maybe only seemingly bigger with his mane. Growling inwardly, she got up and started making her way back to the rhino carcass.

She softly swatted at Ronan and continued back to the den with the cubs. She nudged them inside and into the nest. They were definitely tired. She padded over to their stash of eggs and gave each of the cubs one, cracked slightly of course. She then grabbed some water root for herself. “Now eat up and get some rest.” She watched as they ate and then nursed them for hydration. Each cub drifted off into a nap. Rory was laying on Vera’s tail when they fell asleep.

She checked on each cub and padded outside once they were all sound asleep. She would have to keep watch. Hopefully the danger hadn’t followed them.

Nikos yawned, turning her head she noticed that the lioness from before seemed to be returning to the carcass. They seemed angry, Nikos jumped up another tree branch. She thought they left because of her, apparently she thought wrong. Nikos had been so preoccupied with her thoughts that she hadn't noticed that she scared off a few birds that were resting on her tree. Her head snapped up as she saw multiple birds flapping away, chirping loudly. Letting out a little growl, Nikos backed up to cover herself using the trees leaves.

Location - Rhino carcass | Company - Alone (Nikos in the distance)


Sitting back in the tall grass, Nire did not see the male just vultures as usual. Taking a good sniff she didn't even smell a male had even been here. Weird. She grumbled. Walking out of the grass and approaching the carcass. Circling around the area she eventually found where the male had been standing but it wasn't a males scent. Lioness? Her head cocked, very puzzled. She swore it had been an adolescents male or just a poor male specimen. Shaking her head with confusion she looked around, jumping on top of of the rhino to see over the tall grass.

Her head turned to where she heard a flock of birds take off from a tree not too far off. Shifting on the carcass to get a better look she squinted, catching a glimpse of the lion in the tree. Really weird. She grumbled. A female half-mane that liked to climb trees like a leopard. Casually she looked away as if she hadn't noticed the strange one.

With a small laugh to herself she hopped down from the carcass and sunk her teeth deep into one of the front shoulder bones. All her strength went into pulling before the shoulder and all of its meat eventually popped off the rest of the carcass, sending her flying back into the dirt. Getting up she adjusted her grip on the large piece of bone and meat she slowly began dragging it back to the den. The strange one wasn't male, so she wasn't as concerned about her being around and didn't mind being followed if it came to that.

Nikos held her breath, she and the lioness held eye contact for a little bit before they broke it off. Nikos breathed out, her ears perked as she heard a particularly loud noise it was the other lioness. Holding in her laughter, she didn't expect to see a fully grown lion fly. She finally relaxed her muscles, no threat for now and she got free entertainment.

Location - Den | Company - Lyla's pride


It was an effort but Nire eventually got back to the den with the meat in tow. Normally she wouldn't bring back this much but if the cubs were getting big enough to be outside, it was time for them to start eating meat as well. Lyla! She called out announcing herself, dropping the shoulder blade to the ground just outside the den. Sorry, She said before Lyla even got a word out on the situation. There was a strange lion by the rhino carcass. I thought it was a male and retreated before he could get a word in. She sighed, stretching her jaw as it was feeling sore after carrying such a heavy piece of meat so far. It wasn't a male though. At least, I don't think so. She pondered.

She chuffed at Nire and rubbed her head against her companion. “I’m just glad you’re back. I never want to take the cubs out again.” She sat by the entrance. “I know they have to go out…” sh sighed, “but that was so stressful with all of them. They don’t know anything yet. And of course there is a stranger in this land the day I decide they can see the land.” She looked back into the den and grinned, “Oh, but they’re so cute when they sleep.”

Nire frowned at Lyla's protectiveness. Perhaps it was so strong because it was her first litter but being too protective wouldn't be good for the biters. They both could do their best to keep them safe but the wilderness was cruel and favored no one. Looking at the ground, her brows furrowed in thought, she knew Lyla understood this and that such cruel reasoning being repeated to her would not be helpful. You, we, will just need to teach them sooner than you wanted. Nire sighed, she understood that the cubs were young, naïve and excited to explore but with another lion so close they would need to learn to be cautious of strangers. They can't go far yet, but if it will be easier on you we can divvy them up day to day between each other. She suggested, there were a few lessons from her old pride that she could use to teach them now that were good for building caution.

She sighed and then grinned. “That would definitely be a help. I feel like I can’t teach them quick enough, especially with all of them in tow.” She stood and walked to their stash of food. It was growing smaller by the day so they would definitely have to go out soon. She picked up another egg and crushed it in her jaws, eating it quickly. “So what do you think about this new stranger?”

He blinked a few times. The sun was glaring in his eyes so he stretched and stepped out of the nest. He trotted to the opening and let a yawn slip out. “Auntie Nire, do we get to go play with you?” Still sleepy, he padded over to Nire and looked straight up at her grinning.

Ronan opened his eyes, yawning. He got up, stretching his stubby legs before kicking his sister. His sister yelped, blinking in confusion, before clumsily lunging at Ronan. Ronan giggled, running out, to which his sister ran out too. Eventually, she caught up to him and they both tumbled around

The smell of rotting flesh drew him in. He could smell that other lions were in the area, but it seemed to be only females. Not much of a threat to him. Following the scent, he made his way closer to the dead rhino. Most of it had been picked away by now, but an easy meal was an easy mean and he would never pass that up.

He padded closer, his muscular legs rippling as he stepped forward. He snarled at the vultures and went in for a chunk. The iron rich blood dripped down his jaws as he ate. He didn’t care about being clean, which was obvious by the way he looked.
