I am very happy that the game is back, because I believe it has some absolutely beautiful decors and backgrounds. The only problem? These are unattainable to a large amount of users.
It took me about 30 minutes just to get a score of 300 today in trying to play. This is not even enough for a decor. Since the games re-release today, with over 6 thousand users online, only EIGHT have been able to achieve a score of 1000+, the score required for a background (At the time of writing).

According to calculations by user Techno (#305):
"A score of 462 took me 8 minutes and 32 seconds. I had a stopwatch going. My internet and gaming PC are pretty good, so I should have the game running about as fast as possible.

So in theory, IGNORING the speed boost that does happen over time, that's .902 clicks per second.
8 minutes 32 seconds = 512 seconds
462 clicks/512 seconds = .9023 clicks per second.

For easy math, I'm rounding that to a click per second. So that's 1000 seconds, or 16.67 minutes or 16 minutes and 40.2 seconds for a score of 1000. Now, given I don't know the exact speed change modifiers it has, it's probably a bit lower, and if you can click faster then it's also a bit lower. But I'd say I'm around average in speed for this, and I haven't stopwatched anyone else. So I'd probably say it takes the fastest people like 12 minutes or so at the least."


I have 3 suggestions to make the decors accessible, 2 of which requires adjustments to the game.

1. Add score multipliers
As it currently stands, one hit to either the snake or the mandrill is one point towards your overall score. With score multipliers, it would not be a one-to-one ratio. For example, 100 hits could result in an overall score of 500 if a score multiplier is added where each hit is worth 5 points, rather than each hit only being 1 point. This is just an example and not a suggestion for a specific score multiplier. Another score multiplier, which would be more difficult to code, is that enemies hidden behind objects, thus harder to hit, are worth more (ie. the snake behind the vines). This would make it so players are actually able to get the scores needed for decor without spending hours, and a lot of disappointment, on the game.

2. Lower the scores required to be rewarded decor and backgrounds
This is self explanatory. If the hit to score ratio will remain indefinitely at 1:1, at the very least, the scores required to get decor and backgrounds should both be decreased accordingly.

3. Add a way to purchase Whack-a-Snake decor outside of the game itself
If this game is going to continue to be unplayable for most users, there should be a way to otherwise acquire the decor without relying on extreme prices from the very few users who are able to successfully play the game. Ways of purchasing could include: Gorilla enclave. Oasis. Events.

Nonetheless, I think with the reinstatement of this game, every user should have a fair chance to obtain its beautiful artwork. Thank you for reading. Please comment your thoughts, concerns, ideas, etc.

Did you use a mouse on your laptop? Or a scroll pad? Scroll pad as well registers a much bigger area around a click than mouse does.

Sure, that makes sense! I'd assume if it takes mobile players, who have a better hitbox, upwards of 10 minutes that it'd be similar if not more for a PC user though, even with an optimized hit box :) I think time is just as much of an issue as the hitbox, if not more ^^

What I mean by, if not more: Even with the crappy hitbox, if it took less time, I would still be able to get the decor and backgrounds I desire. I personally do not care if mobile users have an easier time playing... I just want the items to be more accessible for PC users, one way or another

I was using a touch pad. I didn't think there was a difference.

The skewed experience between devices isn't unique to Whack a Snake though, at least from what I know. Reptile Roundup is kind of impossible on mobile, while Shuffle is a lot easier on mobile. It sucks, but on the optimized device, it's at least not horribly time consuming. Whack a Snake has both issues. :(

I remember playing it back in 2015 on my iPad and it was hell. Playing it on my computer now is no better.

A 1:1 point ratio is not fun, especially when you have to get like 1000+ points just to get anything good. I'm not spending like 15 minutes of my life hitting a mandrill and a snake just for the possibility of a background that's cool. I hope people have been submitting their low scores as well so the admins can see the average that casual players are getting to before giving up.

Like the prizes seem so out of reach so why would I bother? Especially if I spend ages to get to like 800 points and then lose, I'm not doing it again. I've only tried to play this game a total of 2 times lol, once when I joined this site and another time today.

Adding to the conversation with Mad Hyena. The problem we're all talking here is not that mobile users have an easier time clicking the animals and not losing lives due to the poor hitbox they don't experience, which, sure, is a problem, but people here are mostly talking about how LONG it is for anyone, mobile or not, to get to the score where the most desirable prizes are given. Over 10 minutes of repetitive gameplay is not fun, nor good, it makes it not worth it, even if we really want the backgrounds, especially considering it is random, and we may not even get the one we like. And, sincerely? I don't think score multipliers will really affect this gap between mobile and PC. Mobile will get higher scores, but PC players will do as well. Playing on a phone or tablet will still be better, but it doesn't give a worse gap in my opinion, since both players are benefiting from the multipliers. That's another issue they should fix, but not the one we are talking on this post, at least not the majority. It's all about the score and prizes, we are not really caring if we get to the leaderboards.

I feel like the having 9 lives makes up for that to a point, but sometimes its hard to actually SEE the snake under the branches. maybe they could add like new skins or a high-contrast mode

Honestly a successful hit streak multiplier is exactly what this needs. I dont particularly struggle getting a high score other than the fact that the process is SO long. Ive not noticed a gradual rise in difficulty as the game progresses so its just 5 minutes of the same thing over and over. I'm glad its back for the additional content but I'd hoped for a few reworks :(

I support! I'm so happy they brought the game back, but it almost doesn't seem worth playing it if it takes so long to get a decent prize. I'd like a little challenge, but also satisfaction lol.

As a suggestion for a hit multiplier, maybe instead of a general boost per hits, maybe it can be done in a way that you have to hit a new object on screen(maybe another flying insect, like a gold beetle) floating across the screen and if you hit it you get a however many x multiplier(5 or 10x?) mutliplier for the next 30-60 seconds and it has a chance at showing up multiple times(maybe connected to how many hits you're at, like guaranteed every 150 hits but can show up starting at every 100 hits, not so rng based that you may never get it some games and other games you get it 4x in a row lol)


That and the hit boxes on PC being adjusted does seem useful. I haven't tried it on phone but I've played it on laptop and on my ipad and it is a lot easier and faster on the ipad. I struggled to get 500 points on the laptop and on ipad I have gotten over 1000pts quickly because I can use both hands to play vs moving a mouse or track pad.
