Chat Thread------------------------------------------------------- The World ------------------------------------------------------- In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders. My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back. The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon. ------------------------------------------------------- The Centre ------------------------------------------------------- The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town. So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back. The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters. The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day. The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them. The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained. The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents. Those are the technical details- now for the visual description. Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there. In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body. Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like. ------------------------------------------------------- Species ------------------------------------------------------- Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between. I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change: Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence. Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake" ------------------------------------------------------- Boring stuff (Rules) ------------------------------------------------------- -Respect Lioden Rules -No Godmodding -Follow your character's agenda, not your own. -This is a literate RP, full sentences please. - Clearly indicate what character you are roleplaying. - No Time-Travel (You can put an indicator as the first line of your post with your character's name. Andrea "Oh, of course, sir!" the caster hurried to reply, toning down his eagerness afterwards with great inner reproach. There was something about this changeling that seemed to drive Andrea to extremes; that, or the years locked in the dark with his own mind had finally drove him insane. Either way, one thing was certain: he was never calling Avery 'sir' ever again. It was just too... Unsettling. "Andrea Blackledge. But, if you decide it's bot to your liking and want to change it... Go ahead." Usually Andrea didn't take lightly any attempts at changing his being so drastically, but he was fully aware that from now on he would have to be a loyal dog to his new master Avery Waite; oh, how ironic fate turns out to be. From Earl, the caster was now a meek pupil, guard and slave. ![]() |

Avery Who offers to let someone else change their name? Avery thought softly, the thought barely a gentle whisper, inaudible to anyone without independent telepathic powers. Avery carefully did not think about the caster calling him sir, it was way too strange. "Andrea. I remember a beautiful human composer by that name. He was so shy, never published much of his works, but he was a treasure. It suits you, although if you no longer like it, it is yours to change." He moved, raising a wing and giving in the urge to wrap it around the caster. "We can talk about details later, whether you want me to make this a full apprenticeship or not, et. cetera, or even whether you want to learn directly from me. I wouldn't be exaggerating to say I am both the best and toughest teacher in the Centre." Avery looked over at the Ampithere he had flew there to help. "But first, lets see your portal-making skills." He touched Andrea's temple, unnecessary but nice, as he telepathically showed Andrea the open area by the Centre. "That's where we need to go." He murmured softly. Steve Steve nodded, listening intently. "That's a beautiful area." He nodded, glancing at the now-human form in the backseat. "Has anyone ever told you that you have a wonderful voice?" Steve was candid, and his tattoos seemed to shift over his skin. He always said what he thought, usually when he thought it. Leo Leo tilted his head. "You left your clan completely?" He paused. That wasn't exactly usual, from what he knew. Shifters who live wild don't usually leave their families. He was careful to keep his tone neutral, but worry seeped through. (Owwwwwwww) ![]() |

Andrea Many things happened in fairly quick succession - at least too quick for Andrea's feeble state of mind being surrounded by powerful creatures and well, bargaining to return to society - and the caster was left puzzled and speechless for a few moments. Beautiful? What did Avery mean when he called the human composer beautiful? A few other positive-infused adjectives followed, furthering Andrea's state of astonishment; and to top it all off, he had the protective embrace of a warm wing wrapped around him. Needless to say his usually pale face was crimson red. Clearing his throat, the flustered caster gave a nod, falling in focus on the image of the Centre; a feeling of warmth stormed him on the inside, overwhelming. He hadn't seen anything in centuries, apart from the places in his memories... He let the feeling wash through him, turning into noble powerand flowing like a river in him and out, in the form of a portal large enough to let both the ampithere and him and Avery through. "Done." Andrea cackled, seeming proud of himself for such a small insignificant little charm. In fact, he kind of wanted Avery to be proud. ![]() |

Avery Tightening his wing in surprise, the powerful appendage almost crushing Andrea, Avery took a sharp breath. He hadn't seen someone cast a portal with such ease in.... longer than he could remember. "You are amazing." He said, reverently. He knew casters each had their own strengths -healing was his- but this was it's own level. Portals were not meant to be insignificant- most people trained for years and years to cast a small, short distance one, and apparently this one was stable enough for them to stand around waiting. Avery had watched the casters set up the portals to the Centre, and he had to help heal one who overexerted himself and collapsed. What he just saw was the mark of a true natural. ![]() |

~ARI~ Breath hitching, he went silent for a moment. Licking his suddenly dry lips, he smiled as his face flushed in embarrassment. "Oh, uh, well, th-thank you. No one's ever complimented my, uh, my voice before." he stammered out, stumbling over his articulation at the innocent observation that had affected him so. "Y-You have cool eyes," the boy managed to choke out, glancing down. Then his gaze darted up to admire the way the ink swirled slowly over the blonde's pale skin. "And your tattoos are really pretty." he added, blinking large honey optics. Eyes flickering over to Leo, he nodded. "Yeah..." fiddling with his fingers, he winced at the memory, clasping his hands together as he bent his head. ![]() |

Quin Now the nervous man was content with his sheep at his side. Leslie would most likely be considered a therapy animal in any other case, yet as a familiar she was even more important. "Thank you so much." He was nearly in tears as he thanked Landon. He feared they would take away his sheep and run tests on him. At least that is what his parents had told him. He had risked that when he had escaped, now he realized he had made the right decision. They hadn't locked him up or tested on him, plus they gave him Leslie back. "Is there something that I can do?" Quin asked, wanting to not just sit around and be useless anymore. Monica She was determined to hell this break with magic. While she could have easily healed all of the wound with magic, being three thousand years old, sometimes she liked to take a step back and use traditional methods. Chanting ancient greek, having learned healing in her home land, she slowly rubbed her hands up and down the broken arm. She closed her eyes as she felt the bones slowly creak back into place and regrow together. Slowly she opened her eyes and stopped humming an odd, unknown song. "That should feel better, but careful the bone needs a day or two to fully heal." Monica warned the phoenix. ![]() |

Steve Huffing out a soft laugh, Steve smiled. "Eyes and tattoos. It's hard to know whether people are talking about the third eye or the two I should have." Steve made a gesture with one hand, and the tatoos rippled again. "As far as I know the 'tattoos' come with me. Not sure what else to call them, but thank you for noticing. They only move when the people around are safe. Don't know what logic they follow, but it works." He smiled, thinking. "Do you have a place to stay? I don't think so from what I have seen, but I can never assume." Leo Leo let Steve and Ari talk, knowing Steve would be the better choice to ask about the shifter's past, how he had ended up in the woods on the wrong side of a momma bear. Leo was curious, but he was very good at putting his foot in his mouth when he started asking questions. He could get people to like him, but trying to learn more about someone.... that backfired a lot with him. Ladon Ladon paused, thinking about it a moment. "Well, I do need help with one thing, if you think you are up for it." He paused, thinking. "Part of my job here is comforting beings who were brought here from dangerous situations, and making them feel like they can be safe here. There is a witch, or we think she is a witch. We aren't sure how old she is, but all signs point to her being in her late teens... anyways, none of out Runners have been able to get within ten feet of her without her screaming like we are murdering her. I want to find out if someone as completely nonthreatening as you can try and talk to her. Provided you agree, even so much as learning her name would be impressive." Ladon sighed. He didn't want to risk this with someone who wasn't trained, but they were running out of options. Quin seemed to have an aura of non-threatening... fluffiness. It seemed perfect. "If you don't want to, you definitely don't have to. There are other things to do if you want to keep busy, but that was the first thing on my list." ![]() |

Nehema Isaac Despite herself, Nehema's eyes widened as Monica began healing her arm. It wasn't as if she'd never seen healing magic before, or even had it performed on her, but... This was old, as old as she was if not more ancient. The chanted song took her in, green eyes half closing as she listened; at times understanding edged around her concious, though the pheonix knew it was not meant for her to truly understand. It was dryad magic, and theirs alone. At its end, Nehema flexed the arm experimentally, releasing a breath she didn't know she had held. "I'll never get over how you dryads do that. My healing is so different," the red-head said with a smile. The simple revelation of magic and the implied connection the two beings had in Ancient Greece comforted her. "Thank you." "I assume you'd like me to hang around, to keep an eye on my injuries?" Nehema normally would mind being held down, but this was only sense. Besides, she was as likely as not to take off and overexert herself by accident right away, and pay for it later. ![]() |

~ARI~ Gesturing to Steve's face, he raised his eyebrows slightly. "All three of your eyes are cool." he clarified quietly, his voice calming down from its former slight squeakiness after he had received the sincere compliment. Listening with rapt, intrigued attention, he sharp inhaled. He had never before met another such as Steve. The young shifter had never seen let alone heard of a creature that looked anything like the blonde man. The third eye centred between the other two was a beautiful misty, dark orchid hue that gave off a vaguely eerie, yet mostly mysterious aura. The other irises were a myriad of hazel, cerulean and shamrock, which was utterly stunning. He wondered what species Steve was. All of a sudden, he noticed Leo had gone quiet. The other shifter had that distant look in his light amber gaze. Smiling softly, Ari glanced back at the blonde. "Uhm, I wander most of the time. So, uh, not really, no." the gentle tilt of his lips became tighter as it transformed into one of a sheepish manner. ![]() |

Steve Nodding, Steve took the compliment. "Well thank you Ari." He looked at Leo as Ari said he had been wandering. Carefully he began tapping the steering wheel. .... . -.-- .. -.. .. --- - .-.. . --- Leo "Hey, idiot. Leo." Leo perked up as he heard Steve start tapping in Morse code. "What exactly are you doing here? If I didn't know better I would think you want to keep him." Leo blushed, looking away, hesitating as he started tapping casually on the center console "I don't know Steve. I like him. He has curiosity, the fire my dads always talk about. I see it. He would do good with us, you know it." Leo paused, taking a breath. "I want to offer him Zach's old room. I want to ask for Dad's permission to train him as a runner." Leo heard Steve's sharp intake of breath, and looked out the window. "Are you sure?" Steve tapped, frowning. "If Ari says yes." ![]() |

Nero -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nero, of whom had been lost in thought and was zoning out, twitched and snapped into reality once more. "Huh? O-oh, portal- oh, gosh- you guys are actually magical, huh?-" He spoke, stunned a bit. Lucky.. his mother had possessed ice-oriented powers, but they didn't appear to pass on to any of his siblings, including him. He lowered his 'standing' body length and peered upwards through the portal, inspecting it curiously and thoroughly. He glanced back at Andrea, carefully shifting his temporarily mended wing to get it into a slightly folded position, took a breath, and simply slithered into it. ![]() |

Avery Avery grinned at the Ampithere. "That's the idea." Releasing Andrea and ducking through the portal, he jogged over to the main building. He navigated the hallways easily, tapping people on the shoulders and telepathically transmitting the situation. He did a circuit of the building, and when he walked back out, there was a small group of healers analyzing and assessing the injury, a senior healer explaining what would be the best course of treatment (Leaving the wing in it's magical splint and letting it heal naturally, while putting a physical splint on the wing as a reminder not to strain the wing.) Avery shook his head, and started looking around for Andrea. ![]() |

Andrea The caster let out a small sharp gasp at the praise, covering his mouth with a strong press of his hands as not to get too loud. Praises! Praises everywhere. Let it rain praises. He would make it rain praises. Even Nero's words were going to be turned into enthusiastic praises. For now though, he just followed in through the portal eagerly. He let Avery do his round of the building while he took refuge in a corner; that is of course, until he got bored and began haunting around as well, appearing to be trying to creep everyone around him out. There was a perpetual feeling of warmth around Andrea; a summer breeze hovering on a shore, the heart of a living flame, alluring and comforting. Most people would just brush it off as a figment of their imagination, but it really was there: not a feeling, not a breeze, but a trace of magical energy that the caster sent out in order to track the creatures and obstacles around him. Fortunate for whoever wanted to find him. ![]() |

Avery There you are. Avery projected as he caught sight of Andrea, walking up to the Caster. He carefully reached out a hand letting his healing power spark against the Caster. Avery wanted to get him familiar with Avery's magic, know the feel since Avery knew that Caster wouldn't be able to look for him. It was a soft prickling sensation, like a very low voltage current, just enough to make your hairs rise. Unfocused like this, his powers just woke Andrea up, adding energy. "We need to talk about the deal we made." He said, his voice neutral. ![]() |

~ARI~ The two older men kind of went silent. He perked up as Steve began to tap, seemingly innocently, against the steering wheel. It didn't appear to be following a pattern, not like if it was a tune. Narrowing his eyes, he glanced between them before his body shrunk, russet and cream fur sprouting over his body as his face elongated into a muzzle topped with large rounded ears and a fox-like tail on his rear. The dhole sat there, watching them with a tilted cranium. The other two kept sneaking small glances at one another, tapping back and forth repeatedly. Lying down, he huffed and closed his eyes wearily, dozing in and out of sleep, remaining as alert as possible, even when his body begged for slumber. He just couldn't trust this machine to not swallow him up. {Sorry it's a bit shorter than I would've liked ^^'} ![]() |
