------------------------------------------------------- The World -------------------------------------------------------
In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders.

My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back.

The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon.

------------------------------------------------------- The Centre -------------------------------------------------------
The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town.

So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back.

The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters.

The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day.

The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them.

The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained.

The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents.

Those are the technical details- now for the visual description.

Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there.

In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body.

Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like.

------------------------------------------------------- Species -------------------------------------------------------
Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between.

I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change:

Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence.

Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's

Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake"

Avery

Avery hummed a light, gentle tune as he focused his healing on the frazzled looking babysitter who had come in to the clinic. He held he's hand above the angry looking claw marks on her forearms and a good portion of her face. "Let me guess, serval?"

Shifter children were notoriously temperamental, and based on the spacing of the marks, that would be his guess. He watched as the scratches healed quickly, closing into scabs then fading away. His Palm tingled, and a wave of fatigue rolled through him. The woman- a witch- nodded at his question. "Thank you. Yeah, she's four and more than a little spoiled. I'm the fifth babysitter she has mauled. I'm not giving up though, she'll learn."

Avery laughed. "Tough, I like it. He walked over to a cabinet, pulling out a healing charm. "Here, I'm sure you know how to use these. Bring it back when it needs a recharge." She nodded again, taking the charm, and walking out into the waiting area, where Steven was entertaining a shifted serval child.

When the witch walked past, she picked up the kitten by the scruff of the neck, and holding her in front of her face. "You are not scaring me off. Now come on, shift back and we'll go home." The child did, and the witch situated the serval child on her hip before walking back through the Los Angeles portal. Steven waved as they left.

Avery was about to make his way to building four, when Steven raced over to him, catching his shoulder. "We have an Ampithere with a broken wing in Montana. I sent someone already, but we need a caster to set up a stable portal. You up for it?"

Avery sighed. "Probably not. I've been working on my casting, but I'm not that good." Not for the first time he wished they had a caster actually willing to work full time in the Centre.

Andrea

The young man had just settled in Montana for a few days and established his little patch of territory in the bit of wilderness left, when all of a sudden, commotion broke his peaceful state of meditating. What exactly it was was unclear, but it was making the lonely Caster nervous; so naturally, he went to investigate like the daredevil he pretended to stand for.

Disguised in the form of a giant Lindorm, Andrea picked the trail of sense and followed it cautiously slithering across the ground. Who knew what would lie on the crash spot? All the more reason to walk around as a giant albino python, scaring every single thing around. And almost a little bit of a disappointment when instead of some demonic creature looking like the very personification of dispair and agony, he found what appeared to be an Ampithere, if he remembered well from the studies he'd read.

"You're... Not alright, are you?" the Caster hissed, forgetting the disguise he'd chosen for a second. Andrea was not one to go with conventional greetings and thus the awkward choice of words; it was clear the Ampithere wasn't well, so what point was there in asking about the obvious?
He coiled his serpent body around the wounded stranger, managing to get a glimpse of his whole body in the process, and decided to speak to him despite not being sure if he was even conscious. "Man, your wing is... Fucked up. What do I do to you?"

The ampithere seemed absolutely motionless at first, simply lying on its side, limp, on the ground. One of its wings were rather gruesomely injured, and very visibly broken beneath him. The other, strangely, would lay unharmed. In a black abyss of unconsciousness, he began to gradually start to feel again. Something was there. It heard a minuscule, muffled voice, but he could barely distinguish it in his state. He managed to emit a low, faint growl from deep in his throat. Pushing himself to awake, the ampithere tensed up and his eyes fluttered open.

He raised his front, serpentine half, and quickly spotted the lindwyrm. For a short moment, he just stared in surprise. Never had Nero seen a lindwyrm before. Other ampitheres and once a drake, but never a lindwyrm. At first, he tried to quickly slink away, but he realized he couldn't quite move his wing at all. In fact, he couldn't feel anything in it- it was now that he realized his broken wing.

Nero remembered what had happened. He winced, but then quickly snapped away from thought and back to reality, and shook his head. "Who the hell are you? Get away from me!" Nero snapped, exceedingly defensive and acidic in tone.

Steve
Steve watched Avery walk off, most likely to fly to the site, which would be hard, considering the telepath had no clue where the Ampithere actually was, but logistics like that tended to sort themselves out for the telepath. Steve walked over to lan against the wall before closing his human eyes, Steve took a breath, looking around again.... there. What was it about today that had him seeing so many injuries? Yet another being off the beaten path and awfully beaten up.

Striding purposefully towards building four, his sneakers made soft sounds against the sidewalk, Steve looked around before he ducked in a side door, finding himself in the Runner lounge. "Leo!" Steve called impatiently, looking around the room. It looked like a studio flat, with a table, chairs, couch, TV, and kitchenette.

"Up here."

Leo jumped gracefully down from where he had been sitting on one of the cabinets in shifted form, a lean, young lion with light golden fur and a blonde-ginger mane that matches his hair. He shifted into his human form, before grabbing a pair of pants from a nearby table. Not that his shift didn't usually include clothes.... whatever, Leo was weird.

Leo

Once he was decent, Leo walked over to put an arm around Steve's shoulders. "Let me guess.... injured being, and Athair is busy?" Not waiting for an answer, Leo moved away, and started putting on his combat boots, shirt, gun holster, and army jacket. "I have told you lions don't play fetch, right?" He observed Steve's sheepish look, before looking towards the door. "Can we take the car?"

"No. It's a Dhole burrowed in an old den, looks like an encounter with a bigger predator. You can cover ground faster than most of us, and while I know you are busy as a runner and all that, you guys are on a break on Ladon's orders because you took four missions in as many months and came back with a small war's worth of scars, so you can't say anything. Besides, even though he doesn't Run anymore, he founded you guys." Steve took a breath after his small lecture, before continuing to mutter "Where I came from, my family wasn't responsible for the idiots, no the idiots were responsible for themselves, we just told people who the idiots were...."

Leo had only listened to the first part of Steve's rant, before shrugging and pulling out his phone. "Drop a pin, psychic."

Steve waved his hand at the device, a marker showing up on the GPS. "He's not bleeding out quite yet, but hurry."

Leo grabbed a medic bag- no, he couldn't heal magically. And he had reservations about dragging a healer into the middle of the woods where there is something that injured a shifter bad enough Steve sent him.

----

Leo approached the den with caution. Once he got close enough for the GPS to be useless, the scent of blood was more than enough to guide him. He walked up closely, before making a decision and shedding his jacket and medic bag, shifting into his lion form to try and peer into the den.

The slumped form of a russet-furred canid could well be mistaken for a long-legged fox. However, instead of the cheeks flaring out in fluff, the narrow cranium remained sleek. The young shapeshifter groggily recalled the events leading up to the state he was currently in...

The delectable scent of lagomorph had invaded his senses. Rabbit! Hunger gnawed mercilessly at his belly, crying for satiation. It felt like claws were tearing his insides open. Like that feeling you got when you were nervous. Butterflies. Only these butterflies were rabid and decked with razor claws.

A whiff of danger caused him brief reason for hesitation, but his stubborn requirement for nutrition was overwhelming, even when the scent of bear and milk was what had fleetingly called his attention. There! He was pulled from his musings at the sight of a flash of a pale tail. A plump rabbit chewed lazily at the edge of a stream, enjoying the lush vegetation that bunched at the bank. Crouching, the canine had dragged his pale pink tongue over salivating jowls, gaze captured by the delighting sight. He twitched with excitement. The rabbit paused, alerted by the rustle in the thick foliage. It's ears swivelled and perked. Then, it shifted forwards, preparing to spring away. With haste, he launched clumsily, rushing with eagerness to fill his belly. It shrieked as claws skimmed its haunches, haring along the bank. Frustration coiling around the clawed butterflies swarming inside him, he sprinted after it.

Unfortunately, the chase was brought to an end as a terrifying roar shook him. Glancing around with wide honey-coloured optics, he spied a snarling black bear lumbering towards him, a pair of fluffy cubs bundled in the wildflowers dotting the meadow behind her. Cowering, he growling irritably as the lagomorph made its escape.
Great, now I'm going to starve. Again, he thought, his stomach giving a rumble of agreed fury. The bear emitted a loud roar yet again, advancing as he spaced out. Seeing he wasn't leaving, despite its threats, the hulking she-bear swung a heavy paw at his head, shoving him roughly into the trunk of a plains cottonwood, the thick body of the tree agonising against his skull. A yelp escaped his muzzle as he tried to scramble to his paws, only to be knocked down by hooked claws scoring down his left shoulder and flank.

With whimpers the only sound he could make, he lashed out blindly, feeling his claws connect before he pushed himself up on shaking limbs, adrenaline aiding him as he backed away. As the mother bear was momentarily distracted by the new pain drawing blood from her nose, the lithe canine made his limping getaway.

It wasn't long after that he found an abandoned fox den. It smelled as if it had been used by a couple of other animals prior to his discovery, as there were numerous indistinguishable scents. All stale, though. With a sigh, he had ducked into the earthen burrow and flopped down, feeling sanguine fluid leaking from his wounds.

And now, as he craned his neck to lap at the stinging injuries marring his flank, rounded audits stiffened at the sound of movement outside. Whipping his head around, eliciting a groan of pain as his head screamed in protest, still aching from the claw marks left upon it, the dhole-shifter stared at a pair of narrow feline eyes. Pelt fluffing up defensively, he bared his fangs in a weak snarl, honey gaze gleaming with pain and fear.

Leo

Found you/ Leo thought as he saw flashing teeth and honey eyes only a shade lighter than his own. Padding back over to the bag, he dragged it over to the den, before starting to dig open the den. The other shifter put up a decent fight as Leo grabbed the scruff of his neck between his teeth, pulling him out of the den. In his lion form the scent of blood and fear was overpowering, and he firmly told the instincts screaming Prey! to go take a hike. He held the other shifter by the scruff of the neck and waited for the small canine to calm down.

As the beast disappeared, he only relaxed for a moment. Then, it was back. What sort of predator was this? An overgrown cat? It had a ruff circling its broad face, fluff fanning outwards in a glorious mane. It seemed to be... carrying something? Bemused, he furrowed wolfy brows and snorted softly.

Then, it began to dig.

As its claws shoved aside the dirt, he gave a yelp of alarm and snapped his jaws defensively. Trembling, his breaths came in shallow gasps. It was huge! Even bigger than he had thought. The gargantuan golden feline swiftly reached him. With a yipping call, he scrambled to swipe a paw at its face, attempting to squeeze past and make a run for it. However, it gripped his scruff, yanking him from the comforting confines unceremoniously. His lanky limbs only barely brushed the ground as the huge beast held him firmly.

Whining and crying, he thrashed in its grasp for a while. Eventually, though, he found himself not yet being devoured. Huh? Rounded audits flattened, he growled and went limp, body trembling slightly as the little strength that remained drained from him, along with the scarlet blood dripping from his wounds. Heaving laboured breaths, he reached up a paw to pat the creature's shoulder roughly, wriggling as he tried to push off from its wide chest. "Let me go." he grumbled in animal speak, neck beginning to ache from his body weight hanging for so long.

Leo

Leo shifted back to human, holding the shifter to his chest, since he couldn't reply while holding the shifter in lion form. "My name is Leo. The Centre sent me to help you." He set the shifter down on the ground and opened the medical kit, revealing bandages, antiseptic, and small herb and spell bags that could be used to heal most injuries. Also pulling his coat over he shrugged it on, covering his holster, which he hoped the Dhole hadn't noticed. The other shifter looked skinny, and his fur had the look of someone who hadn't had much time for grooming, but then again, Leo may just have had higher standards as a feline.

Spinning on her lab stool, she looked down at the plant she was trying to grow. While the other doctors might prefer the standard, fancy new medicines, she stuck to her traditional ways. Letting out a sigh, she mentally cursed the sterile environment she was working in. Jumping off the stool, she grabbed her pots and made her way out of the lab. She beelined for the small courtyard nearby. The plants needed real sunlight, but also she wanted to see the oak tree she had planted there on her first day.

Settling down next to the young oak, she relocated her plants into the ground. The Dryad ignored the rushing around of the rest of the Centre as she rarely made out calls. Often she dealt with patients already at the hospital or walk ins. Now she simply waited for a call to the ER or for Steve to tell her to do something.

Quin

Sticking his head out of the door, the familiar glanced around for any of the staff. Seeing none he made a break for it and crept along the walls. He had to figure out where they were keeping Leslie. For as long as he could remember he never spent even a day away from his sheep. Now he left behind a room of beeping alarms as he had disconnected himself from all of their machines. They wouldn't let him have his sheep with him as it wasn't sanitary, but it broke his heart. Seeing someone in the hallway, he hid in a doorway. He really didn't want to be yelled at for sneaking out. Calming his breathing he stepped back out of the doorway. Now all he had to do was find Leslie.

Quite suddenly, the ground became much farther away. And now, human hands held him to a human chest. Was this shapeshifter from his Clan? He hadn't seen him before. Did his Clan finally send someone to retrieve him, after all these years? Unlikely.

Luckily for him, the stranger set him down, suspiciously swishing his clothing tighter around himself. The movement carried the horrid tang of metal to the dhole-shifter, causing him to wrinkle his black nose. Tilting his head, he sat heavily, too exhausted to run while he could. Then a stinging smell came to him. Leaping to his creamy paws, his dark tail puffed out in alarm as the new shapeshifter began pulling out various tools. Was he going to capture him? He said 'the Centre' sent him. Who were they?

His thought process was cut off as he began to sway on his paws, vision becoming edged with black. Wincing, he gave a low whine and returned his haunches to the ground. Not trusting the other enough to shapeshifting into human form, nor give this 'Leo' guy his name, the canine felt incredibly tempted to just turn tail and flee. Fight or flight instincts raging within him, the shapeshifter cautiously stood, stepping back warily. Leo was currently in human form, so maybe his senses wouldn't be as sharp. It would be fairly easy to slip away, right? And then he wouldn't have to run and risk more injury. Another leg stretched back, bringing his body farther from where Leo was. Rounded ears swivelling, he risked a glance behind him. Just a bit further and he could leap into the shadowy foliage. Though, concern beat like his thumping heart as his vision blurred further, agony hammering through him incessantly. Ah, that could make escape a bit more difficult.

Leo

Leo could see the other shifter edging away, and casually reached to lay a hand on the back of his neck. "Don't run." He muttered, still searching with his other hand for a general healing spell he could set off. He didn't want to use too much power, that could be dangerous, but using not enough wouldn't help the situation. Finally he found the right one, a combination of crumbled herbs and Avery's stored power, and whispered restituere directing the resulting pulse of magic at the shifter, and was satisfied to see the wounds close as if they had never been there. "There, better."

Ladon

Walking through the halls of the trauma ward, Ladon was mostly just showing face. He didn't like that in the wake of Leo's generation he had been relegated to a figurehead, but what can you do? He was lost in thought when he rounded the corner and came face to face with a beaten-up familiar. He recognized the species, and immediately looked around for the familiar animal. He didn't see one. "Where is your familiar?" Ladon asked, concerned. He would deal with any nurse's ire later.

Quin

He froze where he stood, momentarily unsure what to do. Only upon realizing this guy was trying to help could he choke out the words. "I'm looking for Leslie, she's a ryeland ewe." His odd pupils jittered around as he took in Ladon. "They said I couldn't have her with me." He mumbled out, the grown man looking like nothing more than a lost child. Quin had never really had someone who bothered to look after him, he was just lucky to have a name.

Startling as the other reached over to press a large hand against the back of the dhole-shifter's neck, he froze in place. Curiosity overriding his fear slightly, he moved forwards slowly. Craning his neck, he sniffed at the items Leo had produced. Careful not to actually touch whatever was in his kit, the canine sat back and tilted his head back. Gazing up at him, the thin creature found Leo watching him. Jumping, he stared back inquisitively. Next thing he knew, something jolted through his bones, spreading through him as soon as the stranger murmured a single word. Restore? Resistare?

What?

Wondering what had happened, he squinted at the other before he found himself not feeling pain all over his battered body. Licking his lips, he glanced at his side, honey eyes widening dramatically as he took in the sight. Where were his wounds? Had they just... disappeared? What sort of magic was this? Blinking sceptically, he stared at his unmarked pelt a moment longer before swivelling his narrow cranium to gaze at Leo in surprise. Standing, he stretched out his gangly limbs experimentally before shaking out his fur and trotting in a circle. Who was this guy?

Giving in to curiosity, he backed away and let the image of his human form swarm in his mind. Feeling his body changing, he opened his eyes to stare down at his bare, tanned feet. Without his warm russet coat to cover him, he felt exposed, despite the clothes he wore. If something decided to bite him, how would he defend himself? Gulping, he glanced up shyly at Leo. "Uh, I'm Ari... hi. And, uh, thank you." biting his lip, he returned his burning eyes to his toes, wriggling them in the soil.

Ladon

Ladon whispered a few curses, and walked into the room where he could sense Quin had been inhabiting, writing on the whiteboard in a loose, looped scrawl that every nurse knew by now - "Patient moved 4-31 Staff meeting 3pm tomorrow." Because obviously there was a gap in the training there.

Returning to the hallway, Ladon gently placed a hand on the Familiar's arm. "Let's find Leslie. We are moving you somewhere you can stay with her." He said softly, trying to project soothing. Avery is much better at this than him, Ladon knows, but Avery isn't here, so Ladon is trying.
