------------------------------------------------------- The World -------------------------------------------------------
In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders.

My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back.

The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon.

------------------------------------------------------- The Centre -------------------------------------------------------
The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town.

So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back.

The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters.

The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day.

The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them.

The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained.

The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents.

Those are the technical details- now for the visual description.

Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there.

In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body.

Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like.

------------------------------------------------------- Species -------------------------------------------------------
Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between.

I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change:

Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence.

Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's

Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake"

~ARI~

Seeming to perk up a little, he caught Leo's rueful gaze lingering on the incomplete artistry decorating the door to Ari and Andrea's room. His own honey-coloured eyes slid over the soft grooves and darkened lines stroked into the surface of the wood. Chips and curls of cut away wood littered the floor around the door, pushed off to the side of the hallway. Ears twitching, he glanced back at Leo with a knowing smile. "Thank you." was all he voiced, however, sincere optics raking over Leo's face gently.

{I'm so sorry for inactivity! Also, this is horribly short, apologies >.<'}

Hale

The young man sat in his Über ride, still sweating from stacking hay at the barn. His dad, who was just as sweaty as Hale was, gave him a hug and wished him luck at his appointment today, joking that if Hale turned out to be a were-horse he would have to be ridden at shows. Hale had cringed, his dad had winked, and his ride pulled up to take him to the Centre for his consultation.

"Thanks," he said to the driver, who didn't reply as he got out of the car. Hale admired the architecture of the building - his birth father was a civil engineer - and, being the nosy scamp he was, looked into a few of the higher windows. Most had views of people reading or watching TV, but he paused when he saw an agitated-looking young man sitting in a bed and talking to someone else that looked like he was attempting to calm the young man down. Hale wanted to watch, but figured he should at least check in for his appointment before he was late. Counting the windows and the floors so he could find the room later, Hale headed inside and waved to the receptionist.

Nehema

Nehema turned and smiled at Steve as he came over, but it slipped and her eyes widened in surprise at his reaction; only for a moment, however, once it became clear his dissapointment was only about the paperwork. Her hand came up to cover a small laugh. "Yeah, I guess we should," she said, though she did feel a bit bad about him having to do all the paperwork, especially if she wasn't the only new Runner. Given the responsibility and trust they had, it would make sense it was a lot of work too. "If you need any help with all the work, I wouldn't mind helping you out."

Sthe phoenix knew the offer was likely to be rejected, since she didn't technically work for the Centre yet, but figured offering to help would at least be a nice sentiment if nothing else. Besides, Nehema had always been responsible for herself, so it felt odd to have someone do it for her.

Aleister

The young man held his hand to his forehead, eyes closed, as he continued to listen. Emitting a deep sigh, Aleister looked back up with an evidently not happy face. "So i'm a fucking cat." He murmured, seemingly to himself. The back of his thoughts began to worry. What about Lilian? He wouldn't be able to see her. He hoped she'd be okay, at the least. He glared at Aridion for a short second as he finished off, taking it as if he were saying even if he tried to attack, it wouldn't quite work anyways. His mind shifted to focus on the next thing. Supernaturals. This was a huge.. supernatural.. thing. There were presumably a bunch of them out there.

Admittedly, Aleister was uncomfortable. He never fully accepted them. It wasn't like he despised them, but- his friends seemed to always have a negative mindset towards them, besides the girls. He was quite unsure what to think. He didn't exactly appreciate or approve of the other wordly creatures and beings that were fine to do as they please, but the main cause of such views were accepted as a sort of norm in his social group. And now, he was stuck in a place absolutely full of them. Would he be stuck in solitude, in this room? How long would it take to manage this dumb were-cat thing? One thing was for sure, and that was that he didn't want to be alone, but at the same time, he felt quite nervous at the thought of going out and.. befriending, people.

Leo

"I'll show you where they are." Leo said, breaking out of his longing and heading for his room. He knew Elise, Steve's Tatzel would clear up. She loved making sure everything was in order, to the point of staring at people until they made a mess for her to clean up.

Stepping into his room, he showed Ari where he kept the spare stuff -"Yeah, it's like a supermarket in here, I know. Price you pay for being the one they randomly volunteer for temporarily looking after people."

After that he made his way back over to the couch, jiggling the latch in the exact way that made it fold out. He got the spare blanket stack out of his room, and re arrange the pillows to a more bed-like state.

Avery

Avery waited in the room for the new shifter to show up. This would be interesting. It was rare for a shifter to be born from non-shifter parents, but it did happen, and it was always exciting to see what they would turn into. He bounced a little, pacing back and forth as he heard the receptionist direct the shifter-Hale- here. Soon the door opened and Avery greeted the young man with a smile. "Hello."

Steve

Steve looked at Nehema in wonder and awe. "You'd really volunteer?" He sounded so touched, like all of his prayers had been answered. He was playing, bit it really meant a lot to him that she'd offer. "Well, it would be against my honor to let a lady suffer, which is what paperwork is, suffering, but I will need you there for the first bit to fill in stiluff like full name, birthplace, that kind of stuff." He offered a hand. "We should start now if you are up for it."

Ladon

Ladon watched with a smile, already wondering about how much trouble he was going to be in. Three new Runners. Which would mean his son and partner had found people they thought were worth it. Rare and strange.

Aridion

Reaching out with his power, Aridion fed off of some of the were's agitation and apprehension, calming him. "You won't be able to leave the grounds, but you will be able to go where you wish. I'd advise staying away from the clinic until you get ahold of your new senses and instincts." He sighed. "You can have visitors, supervised by someone from the centre to make sure you don't accidentally harm them." Standing finally, Aridion said "And one last thing. There are people here who can and will help you learn control. Don't shun that." With that, Aridion left the room, leaning against the door. He made sure to keep sensing the boys emotions and thoughts, but he figured the boy might need some time to process.

Hale

Hale had taken a deep breath to ease his excitement and anxiety before he opened the door to the consultation room, but he still jumped when he heard a voice greet him as soon as he moved forward. "Hi!" he sputtered, looking around the room - clinical yet comfortable, almost like a therapist's office with a soft bench covered in paper that crinkled in an ear-assaulting manner that made Hale flinch. "So... where do we start?"

Avery

Avery smiled reassuringly, motioning for him to sit. "It's fairly simple, I am going to telepathically trigger your shift. This would work of both shifters and weres, but based on your medical history, you are most likely a shifter." He gestured to the table, and went to the cupboard mounted on the wall. "The shift should be painless. Once we know what you are we can get you set up with an advisor who can teach you about it- If you surprise me and are a were, then it will be obvious as you will only partially shift with the power level I'll be using. If that happens, I will use a spell that gives me animal form, because you will be rather agitated, and i have had patients lash out before.

With that be pulled out a charm he looped around his wrist, offering his hand "Just grab my hand and I will trigger it." He said softly, trying to sooth any nerves.

Hale

Hale sat down on the table and watched the charm dangle from Avery's wrist, thinking about what had happened before his appointment: he's always felt a connection to animals, and he'd woken up the morning after a full moon to his nails lengthened, his fingers shortened, and his "hands" covered in soft fur he couldn't remember the exact colour of (except that it was light). He doubted he was a horse, since he didn't see hooves, but a canine or big cat wasn't out of the question. A cave lion would be pretty cool to be, he mused, but remembered that shifters and weres of extinct species were almost inexistent. Not that being an adorable puppy wouldn't be awesome, but still...

Hale clasped Avery's hand enthusiastically and immediately relaxed as he let the magic flow through him. Feeling his ears slide up his head and morph into a vaguely animalistic shape - he raised his free hand to feel them and their rounded tips. Either a large feline or a bear, he'd say - yes, feline, since he felt his hair spread down his neck into the short yet thick ruff of "mane" he'd seen cave lions have in paintings and restorations on the internet (and since he didn't puff up to the size of a bear). But then he noticed a long, thick-furred tail creeping down one of his pant legs. He couldn't tell if it had a tuft on it or not. Maybe he was a snow leopard? Oh, that would be so cool! Plus, it would explain his especial affinity for cold weather.

Bringing his hand down to his face and rubbing a new whisker between furry fingers that it didn't even cross his mind to look at, he glanced at Avery excitedly. "Woah, this feels so cool... can you tell what I am yet? I feel like I might be a cave lion, but... I mean, aren't shifters of extinct species really rare?"

Nehema

"Of course," Nehema replied, smiling at his tone. "I appreciate the chivalry, but I couldn't possibly let you suffer alone." She couldn't help the giggle that came with that. Steve was being quite dramatic - for her benefit? - but the redhead really didn't mind paperwork all that much. Or possibly didn't remember how awful it was. Either way. "The sooner its done, the better, right?" Nehema took the offered hand, sending a backwards glance at Ladon. "I'll see you later then, I suppose."

Avery

A soft, short haired grey cat watched with interest as Hale shifted. Definitely a were. Your ears are soft cream with grey flecks. He projected, making his observation. Seeing the were's apparent calmness, he turned back, walking over to examine the ruff on his neck. "Did you have an affinity for cave lions? An interest in them before you woke up with claws?" Avery was almost certain he was a cave lion were, which would just about make the record for strange.

The most common species of weres come from a mutation of a magic-charged virus which was created in Atlantis when Avery was a child. He had actually met the first were. Anyways, as a were's child is only extremely rarely a were. But a mutation occurred in the genes of decendants. This gene is dormant in almost the entire human population. The gene is triggered by exposere to a were, usually by bite. The virus itself was eradicated centuries ago, but activation of the gene triggers an effect identical to the original virus. As long as there is a gene to be activated, this typenof were will never die out.

However, the form the were takes depends on other factors. Spontaneous activation ocurrs creating new species all the time, but yes, extinct species are almost unheard of. As an original activation, Hale was truly unique, and a bit of a marvel.

Of course, Avery was cautious about saying that.

Ladon

Ladon gave a lazy salute in farewell, before starting to wander again.

Steve

Steve grinned, grabbing her hand. "Too late to escape now! Let's get this done!" He headed for building one, catching the elevator and heading back to the filing rooms. He told Nehema to wait in the hall, and when he came back with the stack of papers the sight would make most people run away. The stack was a half a meter tall!

He walked over to a table, setting the stack down. "Let's get started." He said, producing a couple of pens.

Hale

Hale thought for a second. "You're a telepath, right? I'll remember what I can that I think is pertinent to the situation. Feel free to look around in there."

The man thought back to one of his earliest memories; being introduced to the family cat when he was first brought home from the hospital. The cat had always wanted kittens of her own since she was spayed in the early stages of a pregnancy, and so, when she heard the cry of a newborn, she immediately demanded to be shown him, gave him a lick, and presented her dugs. Young Hale had reached out a tiny hand and rubbed the soft down on the cat's belly, which calmed him down almost immediately.

In his teens he would affectionately refer to her as "nan," since he spent most of his young childhood under her watchful eye. He'd probably drank some of her milk, since he distinctly remembered the feeling of her soft belly fur on his forehead as a baby. She nipped him only for disciplinary purposes, like when he played with her tail too roughly, and drew blood with an unintentionally harsh reprimand a few times when he was older. If she was a permanently shifted or reverse were, she might have activated his... "were-ness," for lack of a better term. Hale recalled watching prehistoric documentaries with his nan and being particularly fascinated by the cave lions (and other prehistoric creatures, but the cave lions were his absolute favourite, drawing them all the time and wishing he was one after he saw The Lion King and a CG cave lion taking down a woolly rhino single-handedly).

Hale's thoughts turned to his family. On his estranged father's mother's side he was Scandinavian, within the range of the Eurasian cave lion, and his grandmother's ancestors had been to almost everywhere in the world as servants of the old kings of Norway. He didn't know much family history beyond that of his grandmother, who always had a cat (and also adored the feline grace of foxes), and his estranged birth father, who also was never catless.

Really, he guessed his "were-ness" could have come from anywhere.

"What do you think?" Hale asked Avery aloud, only realizing afterward that he hadn't answered the older man's question. Fuck. Forgot to take my anxiety meds. Went on a super long tangent again. Oops.

Nehema

Nehema followed Steve closely, happy to be helping out even if she was limping still from her leg injury. As he went in the room to get the papers, she leaned back against the wall, letting out a soft sigh as she waited. When he came back out, the phoenix started upright, eyes widening in surprise. She accepted a pen with a rueful grin. "Is this all for me?" Nehema asked, pulling out a chair to sit down in. First page was simple, her basic information.

~ARI~

Promptly following Leo, sketchbook clutched to his chest, the boy peered around the well-muscled young man as he was shown things he would need. Nodding softly, he had to muffle to giggle behind his hand upon hearing Leo's statement. Glancing around almost constantly, he slipped off to the side to reposition the sketchbook on the table where he found it. Smiling at it for a moment, he trotted back to catch up to Leo.

As he halted, he noticed the other shifter leaning down to reach something in the couch. In a matter of seconds, the couch elongated, a bottom compartment hitching up, soon donned with pillows and a blanket by Leo. He couldn't help the grin and quiet clap of his hands, childlike delight filling him with wonderment. He had never seen this human contraption in action, seeing as he had no use for couches, nor beds.

With a blink, he pounced at the bed-couch. Mid-leap, his frame rippled, bones becoming smaller as russet fur appeared from his skin. Landing with a trill of excitement, the dhole circled on the blanket, tail whirring happily. The warmth of the blanket and pillows was already seeping into him. It was true, he adored warm, soft or simply comfy materials.

Nero

The huge, snake-like creature would lazily lay with all the span of his body flat on the ground, wings propped up. People quietly fussed around him, and he didn't care to listen or get involved. Nero had lost track of time, but he knew most if it had been sitting here, doing nothing. His curious heart yearned to explore more, but he kind of.. just hadn't gotten to it. Who knew Ampitheres were big procrastinators? Plus, he sort of felt like he was obliged to stay here, and was maybe supposed to be here the whole time- Nero was also bad at asking about things. That was from his pride. Rather than asking about problems, or for help, Nero would likely just push through things and try. Fluff-tipped tail swaying as he thought, the draconian glanced at those surrounding him. Maybe he should get brave.. no, no. Don't be brave. Being brave and taking chances gets into trouble. Trouble is exciting.. but he'd feel a bit guilty afterwards- Nero pondered whether or not to slither away and voice that he was going to look around. What a simple task.
