Chat Thread------------------------------------------------------- The World ------------------------------------------------------- In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders. My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back. The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon. ------------------------------------------------------- The Centre ------------------------------------------------------- The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town. So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back. The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters. The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day. The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them. The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained. The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents. Those are the technical details- now for the visual description. Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there. In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body. Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like. ------------------------------------------------------- Species ------------------------------------------------------- Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between. I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change: Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence. Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake" ------------------------------------------------------- Boring stuff (Rules) ------------------------------------------------------- -Respect Lioden Rules -No Godmodding -Follow your character's agenda, not your own. -This is a literate RP, full sentences please. - Clearly indicate what character you are roleplaying. - No Time-Travel (You can put an indicator as the first line of your post with your character's name. Leo "It is quite literally my job, Ari. You don't need to thank me." Leo said, somewhat bluntly. A spy's eye swept over Ari critically, noting the bare feet, well-worn clothes, and ribs that could be seen through the other shifter's shirt. He fumbled around in the pockets of his jacket, heedless of the metallic scent wafted into the air from the action, before producing some beef jerky. The chemical smell was not that appealing, but food is food, and that was one of the easier things to carry. "Here, I can see you haven't been eating." Leo handed Ari a few pieces. ![]() Edited on 26/12/17 @ 23:20:25 by Eden πΉ π₯Triple Rosette (#113650) |

Quin Nodding, he followed Ladon, this place was like a maze to him. "Thank you sir." He spoke up a little bit as they entered a busier section of the Centre. He glanced out of one of the many windows, glad to see sunlight as his previous room had no windows. "Will I be in trouble for this?" His voice wavered slightly. Quin was still unsure if he would be punished for stepping out of line. Yet if he got to be with Leslie it wouldn't matter to him anymore. ![]() |

Ladon Ladon snorted. "As long as you are with me, anyone who tries to get you in trouble will be getting their job re-evaluated." He said, heading for the courtyard, where Leslie would most likely be. He understood building the Centre to neutralize scent, but damn was it annoying. Almost as an afterthought, Ladon said "-and don't call me sir. My name is Ladon. Kara if you are feeling brave." Eventually he pushed through a set of doors into the sun. Behind the garden he could see a sheep in a large open area they used to use for keeping non-sentient unicorns. "There she is." ![]() |

~ARI~ Rocking back on his feet, he didn't reply, flinching at the matter-of-fact tone Leo used. Feeling him scanning the dhole-shifter's figure analytically, he felt his cheeks flush in embarrassment. All he probably saw was an underfed kid with ragged clothes and a wild look in his large honey eyes. He was a deer caught in headlights. Swallowing, he lifted his head up to meet Leo's gaze. A smell, albeit tinged with the sting of sterilised material, made his mouth water. Meat? Meat! It seemed Leo was freely offering it up. No catch? He wasn't luring the young shifter, was he? Biting the inside of his cheek, his gaze flickered from the outstretched hand holding out the strips of meat to Leo's face scrutinisingly. Finally, he leaned forwards slightly to take some of it as the other gave it to him. "Yeah, thanks." he gave a fleeting smile, before holding the strips up to his face. Wary, he sniffed it. It smelled like food, and looked like food. But would it taste like food? After a few moments of uncertain hesitation, Ari used his other hand to grab a piece, dropping it in his mouth. Immediately, he closed his eyes as he chewed it quickly, scarfing the rest down at a most likely unhealthy pace. Gulping the meat, he grinned inwardly, his stomach feeling a bit more full. Growing less guarded by the moment, he tilted his head at Leo. "What type of, uh, shifter are you?" he queried, questions filling his mind. It took all his mental strength to hold them back from tumbling past his lips so quickly they couldn't be deciphered. ![]() Edited on 26/12/17 @ 23:17:28 by Skye {TOASTTT} (#114927) |

Leo Oh, Leo was luring Ari all right. Mostly hoping to get him back to the centre -or an affiliate- so the other young shifter could start getting regular meals, and maybe a place to sleep that didn't smell like a wild animal. Leo watched Ari sniff the food warily, before devouring it like the starved canine he was. Not that Leo could judge. At the question, Leo blinked, running his hand through his hair. "Complicated. Lion, mostly -thats what you just saw- but I can form-shift my appearance in both forms." To demonstrate, he made his hair turn sapphire, and his skin darken, and eyes turn white, making him easy to mistake for a djinn. In an instant, he shifted back to his natural form. "But I don't like to change appearance when I don't have to." He said, reaching into his pocket and idly messing with a folded throwing knife. Truthfully answering questions. Always fun for him. Compared to getting flayed alive. ![]() Edited on 26/12/17 @ 23:21:24 by Eden {Side} Poop me! (#116337) |

Quin He let out a rushed thank you before rushing over to his ewe. Kneeling down, he gave her a hug as she nibbled on his hair. Sitting down in the grass he rubbed behind Leslie's ears, promising her that he wouldn't leave her again like this. Quin was mildly surprised that someone had taken the time to shear her wool and treat the few wounds she had suffered. Perhaps he should rethink this place, a little bit, after all they took care of Leslie. Glancing around he was pretty happy with where they had kept her, lots of grass and room. The earthy smells around him were comforting and renewed his hopes. Monica Satisfied with the state of the small courtyard that had now become a medicinal garden, she made sure she turned on the sprinklers so everything would be watered. Nibbling on a handful of acorns, Monica wandered the hospital greeting those she knew and passing the one she didn't. Even a year later there were still so many people she didn't know, it was such a large place. Though she loved what they were doing, happy that people were helping others. She hummed a little tune and she made her way around. ![]() |

~ARI~ Eyes widening as Leo's appearance changed right before his eyes, he blinked. And Leo was back to normal. Shrugging off the weirdness of the situation, he shoved his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. Stumbling for words, he huffed out a breath. "So, uh, who sent you? The Centre? Why?" blurting out the questions like rapid-fire, his face warmed. "Uh, sorry. I don't talk to others much." In fact, he had never held a proper conversation, the limits of his communication being when he was warding off other predators from his hard earned kills. Or the occasional human approaching him to give him a sympathetic smile and hand him a small, round piece of metal with engravings on it. Apparently it was human currency. He kept the little money he was offered in his pocket. Right now he could feel the coins jingling in his hand, fingers coming into contact with the smooth paper-thin notes every now and again. Yet again, the stench of metal wafted from Leo's form. Honey-coloured optics snapping over, he found the other also seeming to be fiddling mindlessly with something or rather hidden in his own pocket. Pursing his lips, his alert gaze darted away to survey the area. It probably wasn't safe to stick around, especially in human form. Who knew how long it would take for a predator to scent them and spot the two currently humans, vulnerable so deep in the woodlands. However, they weren't too far from civilisation. Ari never did stray too far. And if he did, curiosity and the will to fit in called him back. ![]() Edited on 26/12/17 @ 23:17:55 by Skye {TOASTTT} (#114927) |

Ladon Ladon looked around, faintly concerned. He had forgotten to check the familiar's chart. Which could be bad. He didn't know if there were any injuries he needed to worry about, but since he had found the guy in trauma ward, odds were good there was something keeping him in the hospital bed. He winced as he walked over to the familiar. "We should get you back to a bed." He said, looking around. "You are still injured." Ladon didn't think it needed to be said that Leslie would come with. Technically, there were people in the hospital who could heal all of Quin's injuries with a handful of words and some power. Now, the hard part was deciding things like who to heal first. Apparently they had been pushing off healing Quin, which wasn't surprising with a relatively stable patient. He should ask Avery when he got home, assuming Avery doesn't use up all his energy on the Ampithere, which he might. ![]() |

Leo Leo ticked off the questions on his fingers. "The Centre sent me. The Centre is a place of healing, rehabilitation, and research, and because Steve is nosy and saw you were hurt and in the middle of nowhere, so he sent me." Leo said, picking up the medic bag. "Don't worry about the not talking to people thing. I was the same way until my dad adopted me and brought me to the Centre. I hissed more than I spoke." Leo said casually, as if he wasn't talking about private details of his life and history. He started walking back in the direction of the city. "Come on, I can promise you a bed and people who will answer however many questions you want to ask if you come back to the Center." He didn't wait for a reply. ![]() |

~ARI~ Questions sated for the moment, he listened with fascinated curiosity. An easy chance at learning about and interacting with humans and other supernatural beings? Yes, please! Eagerly, he trotted after Leo. Clumsy on those gangly, awkward two human legs of his, he gladly reverted back into dhole form. Bounding after the other young man, he perked his pair of gently rounded audits, ebony-tipped fox tail wagging. Although he took many characteristics of a fox, his behaviour could often be debated to be a mix of feline and domestic dog. Tongue lolling from the side of his maw contentedly, the canine lifts his head to stare up at Leo. There. Something flickered in his chest. What was it about this stranger that made that spark flare? Shaking his narrowed cranium, he padded on, dismissing it quickly. Focusing his thoughts on other things, such as where they were headed, what had originally been on his mind was banished. Nevermind. ![]() Edited on 27/12/17 @ 14:03:24 by Skye {TOASTTT} (#114927) |

Andrea Taken aback by the ampithere's aggression, the python backed up defensively, muttering a hissy 'Okay okay...' as he loosened the circle in which he had locked up his wounded fellow to relieve tension. However much Andrea co gratulated himself on the choice of disguise, it was time to reveal his true self. The serpent's skin and flesh broke apart into scales, little pieces like cinder from a flame, and floated off into the air and into nothingness. All that was left behind was a limestone-like skeleton disolving slowly, and a human with the looks of a boy rather than a man. His blind eyes of frosted glass crossed glances as he stepped closer to the winged serpent with his hands held up to gain his trust, and kneeled by in a slow cautious move. "I'm Andrea; What's your name? I'm sure it must be something beautiful, there's no other way." the Caster spoke on a soft singsongy voice, soothing like a mother's lullaby; or rather, like a siren's. "I need you to get off that wing, else all circulation in it will stop and we'll have to cut it off altogether." Now, having stayed away from society for so many years, Andrea didn't know whether a dead wing could be brought back through magic or not; but any way, he wasn't going to risk it. It was better to be safe than sorry. He scooted closer almost unfelt, placing his hands on the ampithere's muzzle in order to be able to see him properly. ![]() Edited on 27/12/17 @ 06:21:31 by Your Old Friend (#102911) |

One-off character It's official. Whinny was lost. Steve had sent her to find the Ampithere and heal it, but she ended up taking a wrong turn somewhere and now had no idea where she is. She really should have asked Steve to place a pin on her GPS. Avery Avery loved flying. The feel of air surrounding him, the pull of the muscles in his wings and shoulders. He used his empathy to search for a pain signature corresponding to a broken wing. He suppressed the flinch as he found it, and headed in that direction with a supernatural burst of speed, and reached the area soon enough. Seeing another being with the Ampithere he waited, circling, to see how the Ampithere would react to help. Technically, yes, the wing could be restored if it was still attached, as long as necrosis hadn't set in for more than a day, but there were risks and limits to doing something like that, and an amputated limb could not be restored. Leo Watching Ari bound around, Leo had to admit the other shifter was cute like this. He looked like a puppy, trotting around. The dhole's form was graceful, with soft russet fur. Elegant. Leo remembered Ari's human form, which Leo was certain would be striking if he started having the opportunity to look after himself. Feeling the flicker from Ari, Leo smirked. Deciding not to mention it, he kept walking. If he shifted he would have to carry the medical kit between his teeth, which he decided not to do. Hiking steadily towards civilization, he for once cursed his jacket, since the weather was cool but not cold enough to warrant wearing it while hiking. But he couldn't exactly take it off-For one, almost all of his weapons were in it, and carrying his coat would take them out of reach- And most importantly, he didn't want to show he was carrying a gun. He was licensed for concealed carry nationwide, had been since he was a teenager, but people got weird when they saw it. They were , and Leo steadfastly refused to remove his jacket. Eventually Central City came into sight. He paused on a ridge, just out of sight of the road. "Do you want to stop for food before going to the Centre? I'm sure there is food there, but if we stop I can get someone to pick us up." ![]() |

~ARI~ Catching a smug sort of look on Leo's face, he ducked his head. He had done that as soon as Ari had been pondering over what he was now feeling as he trotted alongside the young man. Could he read minds? Experimentally, the canine thought, Hey Leo, can you hear me? before glancing back up at the person in question. Suddenly, he stumbled on a rock peeking from the frosty soil. With a wince and whine, he lifted his paw. A small trickle of blood slid between his toes, but it was nothing serious. Licking his paw gingerly, he flicked an ear and carefully placed it back on the ground. After a while, he began to notice that Leo seemed to be struggling with his heavy coat on. Although keeping it on was questionable, he simply figured he had an important reason. Or something. Shrugging it off, he huffed and pushed himself up a rise behind the other, peering around him to stare out at the city. His warm honey optics sparked with excitement, the young canine prancing on the spot. Upon mention of food, the dhole-shifter's slim cranium snapped up. Yes! Trying not to seem desperate, he gave a nonchalant shrug and gave an affirming dip of his head. If getting 'picked up' would make it easier on Leo, and get them food quicker, Ari was all for it. ![]() |

Leo During the hike Leo saw Ari giving him looks, and resolved to mention it later. Ari's enthusiastic response made Leo laugh, and he motioned to the city below. "There is a diner I know that is used to shifters. You won't even have to use your human form if you don't want to. Just follow me and try not to get hit by a car on the way." Leo noticed Ari had injured his paw a ways back, but it was barely a scratch. With that Leo started down the hill, checking one of his pockets to make sure he still had his wallet. He did. When they got to the diner Leo would write a note for Steve to send someone to pick them up in a car. ![]() |

~ARI~ The laugh, however brief, made his heart lurch in a way that was foreign to him. It made him frustrated that he couldn't work it out. Pushing that to the back of his revelling mind, the fox-like canine with a feline regality gave a firm nod. He was serious. The young dhole-shifter had encountered roads before in his travels. He had seen the destruction they bring upon any poor creature happening across its cold, rough surface at the wrong moment. He had seen their rotting corpses, slung askew at the side of the road, vermilion slicking their motionless bodies as scavengers came to pick at the reeking remains. No, he didn't want to end up like them. Fortunately for him, he was a shifter. And shifters had both animalistic instincts and the knowledge of a human. The road-kill he had occasionally spotted didn't understand that one had to be wary when crossing the dark asphalt. Humans gave no heed to crushing the animals in their paths, only feeling fleeting guilt before moving on. They rarely stopped to attempt to assist an injured animal. Finding himself getting lost in his growing disappointed thoughts, the canine began picking his way down the slope, ducking under shrubs and weaving around the odd large rock. For a few paces he slid, claws scraping on the patch of icy ground. Stumbling, he bounded to the bottom, skidding to an unceremonious halt as the momentum sent him forwards uncontrollably. Landing with his limbs splayed out, to which he huffed and pulled himself up, shaking out his ruffled bronze pelt. ![]() |
