Softpaw yawned and stretched. He had wandered to his nest and fallen asleep at some point, but he had finally awoken. He jumped a little at a sudden rumble, flattening his ears nervously. Must be the thunder. He thought to himself, then left the apprentice den. Rain was already pouring though, and the fresh kill pile looked sad and wet. He spotted Alderpaw seemingly busy with something else and dropped into a hunter's crouch. He set one paw in front of another and slithered across camp towards the other apprentice. He stopped a couple of tail lengths away, wiggled his bum for a few breaths, then pounced at Alderpaw.

Hawkpaw arched his back looking to his paws then back to Featherheart. "Yup, I was actually thinking about going to you. Do you think we can go hunting?" He asked happily. He felt happy like this was a great day. But it had started raining. Maybe they could still find prey in this kind of weather. His pelt was soaked but he didn't have long fur so it helped.

Shrewflight's ears flicked back for a moment, her confusion clouding her judgment.

"Well, I'll admit, I know friendships take longer to form." She laughed a little, her tail perking slightly. "But, hey, that doesn't mean I can't try to at least be friendly; the concern was and is real, of course. The only cat that volunteered to hunt with me and two apprentices I'd never spoken to before had gotten hurt; of COURSE I'm gonna be worried."

She smiled, her genuineness trying to shine through so he could see it; she could tell he was a wary cat, but that was only natural in this life.

"So, yeah, if you'll have me, I'd love to come hunt with you and learn a little more about the cat that likes to speak so eloquently." She puffed up her chest a little and tilted her head.

"Cool, who else is going to join us?" He asked knowing that two cats wasn't enough to hunt. They needed at least three. With three cats they would at least catch a mouse or something. But four cats would be even better. He counted which up until he found a good number. Six would be good. But where would they get enough cats. Everyone seemed to be doing something else. He looked around. Maybe some other apprentices could join them.

Hawkpaw looked around. "Maybe Shrewflight and, er." He looked around again. "Maybe Foxflame?" He meowed thinking out loud. They didn't have apprentices but they seemed like great warriors. He continued looking around wondering if anyone else could join them. "Why would you even need anyone else. You could just break a rule and go by yourself." The voice in the back of his head spoke. Hawkpaw looked to his paws. "I can't do that." He meowed so no one else could hear.

Mumblepaw would huff. How long would they all be gone? He thought to himself. This isn't fair, I should be training with Sprintstorm right now, not feeling like an old Elder! He'd hiss in his head. Where were Snowecho and Horsetail at anyway? Did it take this long to check on Elders and do herb hunting? He'd clear his throat being trying to talk. "S-Snowecho, Horsetail?" He called. He yowled in horror as he heard sounds of thunder and lightning. "Snowecho! Horsetail, save me please! Somebody!" He'd pleaded. He wasn't a fan or storms, he loved rain, but not storms.

After leaving the necessary herbs in the elder den and checking that they were all well, Horsetail retraced his steps back to the medicine cat den. Pushing his way through the entrance, the toms ears lay flat as he heard a cats yowl of distress coming from the inside of the den. Hurrying inside, the sand colored toms eyes landed on Mumblepaw. 'What?', Horsetail started to wonder, but then understood, 'The thunder and lightning!'
Taking quick steps towards the young tom, Horsetail stopped in front of Mumblepaw. Leaning down he touched the apprentices head with his nose, "Don't worry, it's just a thunderstorm. There's nothing to worry about you're safe here", the dark sand colored tom said in a reassuring tone. As he spoke a soft purr emitted from the tom, he did like the fact that the apprentice was so riled up because of this, he needed to calm him down.

Snowpaw wakes up. She yawns and stretches. She walks out of the apprentice den and takes a breath of humid, warm air. She smells a slight tint of rain in the air. She sighs and walks to the fresh kill pile and takes a mouse. She lays down and nibbles her mouse. She gobbles it down quickly. She chases a leaf, bored. Leafs were fun to kill. She quickly gets bored again

Mumblepaw would stare at Horsetail in surprise. "D-Don't treat me like a kit Horsetail!" He'd snap at him before letting out dry painful coughs. He'd groan for a moment. Maybe he should be a bit grateful, Horsetail did stop something that was most likely more important than his whining to come check on him. "But- thanks for checking in on me or whatever. I don't really care what you do." He'd huffed. He actually didn't care what Horsetail did, as long as he didn't decide to leave him alone with the thunder and lightning. He'd lay his head down. "I feel stiff." He'd muttered. "How long have I been sleep? Also where is Snowecho?" He'd ask a bit more calm and nicely.

Horsetail took a step back at Mumblepaws retort, a small smile came fleetingly to the toms face though, as he heard the apprentices thanks. "I'm not quite sure, I just saw him walk off with Newtpaw. I've been busy making my rounds to the elders", Horsetail answered. Remembering the already prepared herbs, Horsetail stood up, "I'll be right back", the sand colored tom told the apprentice.
Heading for the herb store, Horsetail soon returned to Mumblepaws side with the bundle in his mouth. Picking most of the herbs out, he pushed them towards Mumblepaw. "Here, Chamomile to give you some strength and Juniper berries to help with your stiffness", Horsetail explained, turning to a small broun root next to him he added, "Since you are awake, once you have eaten these, I'd like for you to get up and I'll line your nest with some comfrey root, it also helps with stiff joints." Looking back at Mumblepaw, the toms face grew curious, "Now, would you mind telling me what happened?"

“Mmm,” Foxflame hummed. ’Tis good she misunderstood for now—‘twas my hope she’d understand later, he thought.

“I’ve no objection to our friendship, Shrewflight. And perhaps you’ve misheard me. Still, I am sure you shall understand my words when you should, or perhaps it shall be better for you to forget them. But ‘twould be a waste of our breaths to continue speaking, no matter how eloquent our words. Let us take our pick from the fresh-kill pile.”

After padding to the fresh-kill pile, Foxflame thanked StarClan, muttering “Thank you, StarClan, for allowing mouse-brains to catch prey.” He took a shrew from the fresh-kill pile and gulped it with absurd speed, as if it was due to his voracious appetite. In truth, he simply wanted to see Shrewflight’s response.

Foxflame acted towards Shrewflight how he did with any cat that kept their wits, but it seemed that fewer and fewer cats fell within that category. He frowned. “‘Tis green-leaf now, but what shall become of us in leaf-bare? Were I not here, I shall ought to have called it a miracle that we have trained the apprentices to survive the snow, let along the hunger,” he thought out loud, teasing arrogantly and sarcastically. “I suppose I’ve much work to do for the clan.” He yawned and prodded a mouse as if it might be still alive, then stuffed it into his jaw as well. After finishing the mouse, he stretched and watched Shrewflight eat.

“Enjoying your meal?” he asked.

He looked back and noticed that the young cat had not followed him. He let out an exasperated sigh before exiting the hollow and back out into the forest, where he stood with his tail flicking impatiently in front of Spottedpaw. "Now, I know seeing your father couldn't have been easy. But you have to learn how to train," He said, a little annoyed with how scatterbrained the young she-cat was being at the moment. Sure, apprentices would be apprentices, but he already had a limited amount of patience for other cats and their problems...

Shrewflight watched Foxflame eat for a moment, his velocity eating the shrew not lost on her; she got the gist that he was trying to either show off, creep her out, or something else, something...unreadable to her yet. An ear flicked without her consciousness, and she shelved the thought for later. She carefully picked an older robin from the pile.

"Thank you Starclan, for your generosity. I will repay this soon." She whispered into the dead bird's feathers; she ate delicately but quickly, as if she was killing it all over again and wanted to give it a quick death. She glanced up at Foxflame and noticed him eyeing her eating; he asked how her meal was, and she swallowed the last mouthful.

"It's lovely, as always. Thanks for asking." She licked the back of her paw and cleaned her muzzle; she hated leaving bits behind. Awful habit, she thought, and wiggled her nose.

"Leaf-bare requires the Clan to be of a unity, I think," She said, looking up at the trees. "We shall all need to work together to gather enough food for the elders and possible young, though I doubt that will happen this season around. Seems everyone is too high-strung around here, though I don't blame them at all." She glanced at the dens of the Clan, and shrugged. She looked at Foxflame, her eyes sharp. He was arrogant, yes, but, he hunted well and knew it. As long as he did well by the Clan and by the other Warriors, he was alright in her eyes, if not a little stuffy. "I think leaf-bare will be a crucial time for teaching, and learning, for all cats. Don't you?"
