((sorry about my sudden MIA! I didn't want to roll over because I was away from home and it sucks you cant use the site at all unless you do. Not too sure how to put myself back in but here goes))

Nire carefully hopped down a shale cliff face, the rocks crumpling a bIt beneath her descent. Slipping a bit she jumped and landed a few feet below. Putting a bit of pep in her step she covered the last bit of ground to arrive at the tree that her and Lyla had spent the night after avoiding the hyenas and the rude roamer. Lyla seemed pretty tired that night so, after a short nap, Nire took advantage of the cool night air and had a good look around for a better den site for the two of them.

Hey, Lyla. You awake? I found this hill that had... Nire stopped talking when she noticed that Lyla wasn't around. Cocking her head she sat for a moment, stretching her rear leg out and pulling the shale rock that had been stuck between her toes. After she stretched forward and back before sniffing the air and following the lionesses scent.

She hadn't gone far when she found Lyla, having a morning drink. Morning, sleep well? Nire asked before laying down beside her and quickly filling herself with water as well.

She rubbed her head agains Nire, “Absolutely! Those pesky hyenas left us alone so I was able to get some much needed rest.” She took another drink. “Now to find a place for a den!” She gleefully looked at Nire. It was nice to have a companion again, especially since she was much slower now. She could tell that she didn’t have much time left before the cubs were here and she had been worried about finding a suitable den, but now with Nire, her fears were lessened.

Licking the water that splashed back into her nose, Nire sat up and looked at Lyla. It was good to see that her mood as well, despite everything that happened the day before. Since you mentioned it, I found a promising location not too far off. She gestured away from the rising sun. It doesn't look like a place we could stay all year but it should be find during the rainy season. It is up high, has a good view of most of the surrounding area but I can't get inside it. It looks open on the inside but the entrance is pretty hard rock. We might be able to dig it out or find another way in. She shrugged. It seemed decent enough for the next few moon cycles but it was quite a ways to any dependable water. There was a waterhole nearby but it would no doubt dry up pretty quickly with prey and the sun taking its toll.

She sat up excitedly, “Well let’s go then! We might be able to figure it out. If now we still have some time to wander.” She started walking in a random direction and then realized she had no idea which way she was going. She paused, “I’m sorry, I’m just excited to find a new home. Dens feel so homey when you break them in. We also need to try and find some food soon.”

((You can absolutely switch characters, the girls kinda left him. And I just created an OOC so we can chat over there about characters and plot points. We can definitely still leave some side notes at the bottom of our character interactions, but let’s keep most of it over there!))

Nire chuckled at Lyla's enthusiasm. Though with a half-hearted eyeroll she trotted off towards the right direction. It was a bit hard to find in the daylight but eventually they both arrived at a gentle hill that had a baobab growing off the side of it. Looking around for a bit Nire finally found the opening. It was nice that it was facing the morning sun.

This would be the place. Nire crouched down, looking into the narrow crack in the side of the rock face. She could see some light on the inside. Seemed like it used to be an old termite hive, pretty big one at that. The crack probably left them too vulnerable to their predators. She flopped over on her side and shoved her paws inside before yanking out a bunch of dirt and some rock. It wasn't terrible but would take some work to make the entrance large enough for them.

She followed Nire to the den. “This will definitely work for now.” She nodded. Now the task of getting in. She watched as Nire dug away at the earth and helped by moving the cleared dirt farther away. She couldn’t do much, but she tried. She chuffed at the lioness. “What made you want to help me?”

You mean, aside from the very, very confused roamer? She coughed, pulling herself out of the whole with a mouth full of dirt. Rubbing her muzzle free of the dirt she thought a moment. No real reason. Which was true. This little side adventure was all very spontaneous for her. With that she dove back into the hole, wriggling herself in deeper, with just her back legs out and kicking against the wall. For a moment she stopped with her butt just sticking out comically to catch her breath. I dunno. Guess I have been alone long enough. The open plains are likely to drive a lioness mad if she is solo for too long. Males are just crazy enough to do the solo thing forever but it just doesn't suit me. With some more struggling on her part she managed to squeeze the rest of the way in. Panting for a bit she turned around and worked on the inside of the opening while Lyla worked on the outside. No take backsies. You're stuck with me for now. She chuckled while the opening was slowly crumbling at their work.

She smiled, “Well I’m glad we are on the same page, I’m not going anywhere!” There was still hope in a world full of cruel lions. She paused for a moment and just grinned at Nire. “I’m so thankful to not be alone anymore.” She looked back to the dirt and pushed more away.
