⋆⁺ Strange Yam ⁺⋆
[Your lioness] takes a cautious nibble, before enthusiastically digging in. She licks her lips gratefully, rolling to her side. It seems like something interesting has happened...
Use this on your lioness to guarantee a set of two identical twin cubs.

⟑ . έβ‚Š ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁ . έβ‚Š ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁ ⟑ . έβ‚Š ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁ . έβ‚Š ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁⟑

β₯ Mechanics
It might be easiest if the identical twin overwrites another cub in the breeding to avoid extra-large litters. However, this risks overwriting a mutated cub. Maybe the Strange Yam should roll after all other breeding items?

β₯ Connection to In-Game Features
β†’ Grain of Paradise Similarities
Some might say this is a reskinned GOP, but I'd argue it adds a fun roulette of "wow, what will I get?" when breeding lions together, especially for rosettes (and if not too OP, mutations!)

If an event item, the price for Strange Yams should match or be slightly higher than the GOP item cost because it also guarantees two cubs.

β†’ Mutation Breeding
This item has a few options for mutation breeding according to how the admins see fit.

If it's deemed too OP to be able to "twin" a mutated cub, I like the idea of one having the mutation and the other being identical ASIDE from the mutation. I think this is also very aligned with reality as real-life identical twins can have differing mutations.

Like, maybe it doesn't affect mutation rolls whatsoever - theoretically, every cub could roll muts regardless of its "twin" having or not having a mutation. I think this is the best path forward.

β†’ Crunchy Worm Usage
Using a Strange Yam with a Crunchy Worm could result in two cubs being clones of the lioness, like two full RLCs. Proper RNG settings allowing this chance could make this a strong selling point.

If that's too complex, breeding for favorite markings would still be appealing. Admins might prefer it to be a Crunchy OR Strange Yam scenario, but I’m okay with that.

β†’ Rosette Passing
If the lion(ess) has many rosettes, this item could be greatβ€”if one twin inherits rosettes, you would get a 2-for-1 rosette offspring deal.

β₯ Inspiration: "Yams are a rich source of progesterone and phytoestrogens, which may lead to hyper-ovulation. Therefore, the high amount of yams in human diets was reported as a probable cause of twin or multiple births."

The above is underresearched and often seen as a wives' tale, but I think it’s a fun and simple way to add breeding items without causing major balance issues and remaining in the realm of reality!

β₯ Creator's Notes
My concept might be silly, but I think it could be fun and exciting. Let me know what you think, and feel free to share any disagreements - I love finding workarounds and solutions!

I totally support this this sounds so much funnn! I love the thought of utilizing GOPs better in this way then just scrounging for buffies all the time I can also totally see this being a November item as well with shaman stew and giant torts!

I love this omg!! Though I personally feel like the twin mechanic shouldn't include muties ;o; I'm not totally sure how high of a chance it would be to do something like that, and there's a very delicate balance when it comes to things like hybrids/lethals. BUT, all that being said, this is such a fun concept!! I would love to see this in the game :o

Taffy Laffy thank you!! I think it fits as well, into the general theme of the breeding items, as well as having a loose attachment to reality in the same way scrotum is meant to be a real-life aphrodisiac!

Pinenut I agree! I think it would either need to have a VERY rare chance or exclude muties and function as an add on for breeding certain marks i.e. rosettes or RLCs maybe! I want to keep things fair, but also introduce a fun chance to produce something we haven't really (ever?) seen on Lioden!

this sounds like a great idea, but doesn't it feel a little op to have it overlap with crunchies? it's a 25% pass rate, not a gurantee, but that's still kinda high. maybe something like it can't overlap with crunchies? they're pretty expensive but that could always change. otherwise tho i do think this would be really fun to have!

Litt - completely understand your concern! I think that it could be one of those things where that's totally up to the admins. I have no issue with it being a "crunchy OR strange yam" situation, but it could also give it a cool duo use, and the price during events could just be raised to combat market oversaturation. OR maybe it's another, much lower % roll when a crunchy is applied, but that sounds a little too complex. Often the easiest path is the one chosen (for good reason) by admins/coders etc.

Honestly, I just love the idea of having a cub birth with cool markings, and then BOOM exact copy. It could also be cool for lore players & rpers! Not my intention here, but I was just thinking about continued alternate uses.

I think twins would be fun to have regardless of the mutation! So even if you did pass a gon, there's a chance the gon could be a twin with another cub, just without a mutation!

Haha right?? Idk man I'm so excited about this idea. I just think it's so dang cute to think about, even if it's not as exciting as a buff scrot... lol

There's an older suggestion about having a small chance to have identical twins naturally, and still the twin idea is so cute to me. I'm not sure if I think it should be mutually exclusive with crunchy worms or not though... I'm sure some people will have a lot to say about that lol, but if this would be considered as an item, maybe they could poll it?

It could also overall not be a guarantee item, but an item with just a chance of working. The guaranteed twins might be cooler though.

I don't know. Just some babbling. I'll support, I like it!

Leon - I would love to see what the consensus is from the community! I'm very very very much a fan of collaborative endeavors and if others have better ideas for implementation, I have zero issues with letting them in on the creation if approved by admins! I'm trying to keep it as easy/straightforward as possible (or at least having those options!)

I def would prefer a guaranteed item, because I think a lot of recent releases have been more on the side of "potentially" with a roll rather than a firm "this is what you get" and then the potentiality being up to you - what do you breed with? How do you choose to use this item? Do you maximize the value, or do you use it for fun with a lion you love? Those are the questions I think are more fun than "will this even work?"

It's probably too op when paired with crunchies to be the same price as a gop-- maybe the price could be higher? Or it could be like a rare explore drop

I do like what another player stated; you can get an identical twin appearance wise but not mut wise.

I.e.: a tigon cub gets a twin lion cub with the same base marks etc.

That would probably help keep it from being too OP like people worry. And I think stacking with crunchies would be fine as long as the yam had a smaller pass rate than 25% (like way smaller like most litter influencing items)

Benny I think that's a good workaround too - more expensive but if it works with a crunchy...or less expensive but doesn't work with a crunchy...

Personally, my preference is that it isn't a rare explore drop, because I tend to have no luck with those, but I think having it as an event item would be fun. Of course, I'll take whatever I can get hahaha

Lee - As I'm hearing about the mut concern I have to say my opinion is aligning with this. I think it's a good way to make sure they're balanced. If it mucks with the coding, it could be hardwired to only "twin" a non-mut lion.

I think it would be a fun thing that if you use this item on mutations, or with gmo or whatever, you have a chance for either 2 mutated twins, with the SAME mutation then too, OR one mutie twin and one not twin, and maybe even two normal ones. Like, have the mutation be able to have a random chance?

Edit:
Maybe when using it with gmo or on tigon or something be a 33% chance of it being double mutie, 33% chance only 1 mutie and 33% no mutie?
