- New Color Group (like Black, Cream etc) and move just a few bases such as Cinnabar etc + add new ones.
Black, Cream, Red, Golden, Iridescent - ideally this would free up how crowded Black group is with colours like Opal, Glacial, Ice and so on and make Black more about Black and Maltese/Lilac. This would make few bases forced to be moved to new colour groups.

- New Shading Group (like Solid and Countershaded) and just move the colours like green, blue etc to new shade to make the breeding within same colour group easier for natural and colorbomb breeders.
Esentially such idea would keep all existing bases in same colour groups as they are but added a third shading variety.

Keep in mind this is just a discussion to see what community thinks about this idea! It does not have to be a planned update.

I am open to anything.

We can poll moving EACH base first.
We will obviously fill any gaps that would appear with new bases, specially from Suggestion boards.
It would open doors for more coloruful bases without distrupting natural breeders.
We could introduce new NCL's sporting unique Iridescent bases in events like "Weekend only" and so on.

ADDITIONALLY - Also I am open to Iridiscent Colour Group working with BOOSTS with their previous colours (like Cinnabar working with Reds with additional breeding boosts)

Let us know your thoughts!

NOTE: there is no reason to create suggestions already based on this idea as this mechanic not only does not exist on Lioden yet, but it does not have to end up in Lioden at all. You're welcome to post your ideas here directly.ll

I would like to be Iridescent a new gradient group alongside Solid and Countershaded, cause it would be a very easy way to avoid/breed them. Iridescent as a new Color Group would mess up many breeding projects and a new rarity would make it too hard to get i.e. You wanna breed Iridescent and get lots of common/special fails. Maybe I didn't get it right, but I think the only 'good' way would be as a new gradient group. No breeding project would be messed up, cause Black/Cream/Red/Gold color groups still work and the rarity wouldn't change, but this is just my opinion c:

Yuki- you know, I completely see your point. I'm still pushing for a Shade, but if this happens as a gradient like you've mentioned? I could deal with that. I could like that.

I just thought that the gradients wouldn't disturbe the groups too much. Glacial could stay in the Black Light Special group, but as an Iridescent and they could add some more bluish/violett bases to fill up the gaps in Iridescent gradient group

@Yuki; that sounds like the idea I suggested several pages ago - making iridescent it's own additional group and not messing with the current group orders

Isn't that what Xylax's original post already says? "- New Shading Group (like Solid and Countershaded) "

@fart Yes, it's exactly what the post above said, but I just explained my opinion a little bit more like everybody else here

Personally, I'd like a new colour group altogether. Such as, for example, green being in Gold Medium Solid Special... it just... doesn't make sense :/ And it doesn't make sense for it to be in any other colour group, either. So Iridescent would be perfect for all those bases, like Glacial and Green, that simply don't fit in.

It'd also be very useful for us who like colourful lions! It's their own colour group. It'd be perfect!

I really love this idea.

Here are some questions I have:

*If a new color group is created, would Iridescent exclusively be a special-bases-only group? Or would there be non-special bases in there to round things out? I love the idea of having more options, but I also don't want to 'cheapen' the allure of working really hard to attain a special base.

*The trouble I have conceptually with making Iridescent its own is, what "difference" is there to separate it from Solid vs Countershaded? Right now, the difference between the two is that Solid has a limited color palette per base and Countershaded is a base with more color variety within it. But then things like Arctic and Xanthic could be Iridescent Countershaded whereas Glacial and Green might be Iridescent Solid.

*Also re: Iridescent becoming its own gradient group- I think the bases that would fall into it tend to be a "love it or hate it" type of affair. I LOVE LOVE LOVE sunset and lilac-y purple bases, and all of the bright blue bases, but violently cannot stand the Green or some of the Yellow special bases. I think some users could see it as a boost to their ability to stud and create colorful cubs, but I think other users might be upset that the cub they turn out and are hoping for their favorite base with turns out as some other monstrosity. Not that we don't already have that, but "meh" is a very different reaction from "ew". (I guess this could also be seen as a positive as it would encourage sales and cub trading, maybe?)

I vote for a new whole color group. Especially with the release of Labradorite, because where would it go? It can go under Black with ice, glacier, and arctic. Or will it go under red alongside Sunset and Inferno? Those two are really the only ones it could go under and there will be discourse for whichever color it goes under. However if it goes under Iridescent there will be no discourse.

I wouldn't mind seeing this as a shading group rather than a colour group, because like Tale said way back on the first page, I don't want to be getting random Cinnabar potatoes born from a mother with an Opal or Ice base.

@Cas

I can see that as a concern, but also consider that if Iridescent were a color group they would keep the same shades such as light countershaded. Opal is light countershaded and Ice is dark countershaded while Cinnabar is a light solid it is highly unlikely you would ever get a cinnabar potato.

However I do understand where you're coming from, there could be the problem of getting potatoes like say you bred a glacial and an ardor and got a cinnabar potato. Both of the parent bases are light with one being countershaded and the other solid. That's when it could get spooky, but also remember that these will be hard to breed in general, they probably won't have the same passing rates as normal bases because a lot are special bases.

I think in time common bases will be made for iridescent category like some berry bases or some gem bases.
