- New Color Group (like Black, Cream etc) and move just a few bases such as Cinnabar etc + add new ones.
Black, Cream, Red, Golden, Iridescent - ideally this would free up how crowded Black group is with colours like Opal, Glacial, Ice and so on and make Black more about Black and Maltese/Lilac. This would make few bases forced to be moved to new colour groups.

- New Shading Group (like Solid and Countershaded) and just move the colours like green, blue etc to new shade to make the breeding within same colour group easier for natural and colorbomb breeders.
Esentially such idea would keep all existing bases in same colour groups as they are but added a third shading variety.

Keep in mind this is just a discussion to see what community thinks about this idea! It does not have to be a planned update.

I am open to anything.

We can poll moving EACH base first.
We will obviously fill any gaps that would appear with new bases, specially from Suggestion boards.
It would open doors for more coloruful bases without distrupting natural breeders.
We could introduce new NCL's sporting unique Iridescent bases in events like "Weekend only" and so on.

ADDITIONALLY - Also I am open to Iridiscent Colour Group working with BOOSTS with their previous colours (like Cinnabar working with Reds with additional breeding boosts)

Let us know your thoughts!

NOTE: there is no reason to create suggestions already based on this idea as this mechanic not only does not exist on Lioden yet, but it does not have to end up in Lioden at all. You're welcome to post your ideas here directly.ll

I like the idea of a new color group I think that would help the people not wanting certain colors and hopefully give a passable green base.... Emerald?

i can see how itd piss people off that black colours would be moved to iridescent, but black is crazy overcrowded, so i support it being a colour group. maybe dont name it iridescent though? it seems weird to have 4 groups that are named after colours and then one thats just.... shiny.

I'm open to Iridescent as a rarity or a gradient. Personally, I prefer it classed as a gradient because the word itself would fit better as a gradient than rarity.

It could follow the current Solid/Countershaded style genetics (SxS=S; SxC=50% S, 50% C; CxC=C) by only appearing from a pairing with at least one parent with an Iridescent gradient. The main trouble I can see with this, though, are all the fail bases that also have to be made (there has to be at least 12).

As a rarity, its name could maybe be something like Surreal, as to reflect the fact it's not a natural color in the wild.

Or just Unnatural. Or Aberrant.

Unnatural and Aberrant, though fitting to the idea, I think has a harsher sound. Surreal has a softer note to it, but had the unfortunate issue of starting with S, making the abbreviated genetic groups confusing (would CLCS refer to Cherry Blossom or Buff?)

That's the thing- I'd love to see those 12 new bases. I'm more worried for the work Xy would need to do to make those 12.

I could get behind a new shading group and support it, but I don't like the idea of moving a bunch of the bases into a new color group.

I think using iridescent as a rarity could be defined as a "filter" or "color modification" the same way that "dilute" in domestic cats makes black into blue. By that I mean... gold iridescent = green bases, cream iridescent = orange bases or shiny bases, red iridescent = pinks and bright reds and black iridescent = purples and blues. If that makes sense xD

I looked through suggetions threads and here are a few I think would look nice as common iridescent bases:

Grapefruit
Fern
Magnesium
Asida/Asida Alternate
Hellebores
Blueberry
Cornflower, fog, periwinkle
Celadon, firebrick, solar

Support for the new shading category (X Light/Medium/Dark Iridescent Common/Special), but not a new color group.

How would the Iridescents be obtained though (outside of breeding to the existing ones)? Would you have to make new bases? I assume that's the case, reading the posts above me.

A shading category that allows bases to stay in their respective categories is the best IMO. Blue being an "iridescent" color for black is definitely not out of the ordinary either, so I think it fits.

@Tale In that way, you can argue that it can fit in the shade group, but the genetics there are a bit screwy to add another in.

Kind of confused about the last few posts because I don't see 'rarity' listed as an option in the original post. Either Color (replacing red, cream...) or Shade (replacing Solid or Countershaded). I will admit to not reading all five pages of posts though.

(I would pin Tale as the main cause of this)

Though not an original suggestion that Xy put up as an option, it's been suggested multiple times in the comments, and people seem* to be for it.

*dang typos

Haha, sorry for the confusion Lunar - I'm the one that suggested making iridescent a rarity instead of a color group or shade - it was just another option for everyone to consider. :)
