------------------------------------------------------- The World -------------------------------------------------------
In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders.

My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back.

The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon.

------------------------------------------------------- The Centre -------------------------------------------------------
The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town.

So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back.

The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters.

The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day.

The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them.

The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained.

The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents.

Those are the technical details- now for the visual description.

Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there.

In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body.

Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like.

------------------------------------------------------- Species -------------------------------------------------------
Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between.

I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change:

Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence.

Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's

Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake"

Nehema

She barely had a few moments to consider what she might of said - and if she would still say anything - when one of the men exited the room. Thin and pale, he wasn't exactly an imposing figure even while being taller than her, but his presence felt... odd. He was certainly nothing Nehema had met before. He looked rather surprised to see her, before his eyes turned intent. Her own green gaze met his for a moment, before flicking warily to his outstretched arm and down again. Involuntarily, the phoenix stepped back; it had been a long time since she had been hunted, but habits died hard. "Um... a-am I... uh, hello," she managed, changing what she had been going to say halfway through.

Avery

Avery shook his head. "It went well, I think I am finally wearing him down. The man is a distrustful hermit and unpleasant to boot, but he's the best marksman ever born." He sighed miserably. "Other than that, I re-affirmed that I can telekinetically catch bullets, even when I don't know they are coming. He told me that next time I show up I better bring Leo, he won't agree to apprentice someone he hasn't met, even if they are my son." Avery closed his eyes, and shook his head.

Brennan Artemus Teague. Avery had met him in a dispute between France and Australia, and ever since then they have had a rocky sort of friendship that mostly involves Brennan trying to shoot Avery and Avery hauling Brennan out of bars or jails or warzones, when they don't end up on the same side. When Leo asked to be trained in marksmanship, Avery could think of no-one better. Now he just had to convince the miser.

"Other than that Germany is as beautiful as always, and not much else happened."

Steve

"How did you get up here?" Steve asked, not impolitely, but bluntly. He pulled his arm back when he saw her flinch, and his tattoos stayed completely still-eerily still when he was used to them being in motion. Something was off then. He was worried mostly, she didn't seem to be in the best shape. He couldn't remember her being brought in from the Runners, so she must be an American patient. He tried to place her, but eventually gave up, deciding she must have been checked in today.

Nehema

So she wasn't supposed to be here after all, judging. Y the man's question. He seemed to caught a little off guard too, though it was difficult to tell; more of a feeling, really. Knowing that helped Nehema to steady herself, to realize she had let her wariness show. It may have been too late to cover it, but it was worth a shot. "The skywalk," she told him, looking up again. "What is this area, anyway?" Though a convenient change in topic, Nehema was genuinely curious. Its not like she looked at a map before deciding to take a walk.

~ARI~

A giggle escaped him as a finger came in contact with his cheek, blinking over at the Caster. Only then, staring at the newcomer did he notice the milky sheen glossing over Andrea's eyes. It seemed the young man currently prodding him was blind. Almost choking at the mildly flirtatious comment from Leo that made the Caster blush, he scowled into his knees. The touch of warm skin meeting his ankle caused his dimmed gaze to slide over to spare a glance at Leo. Then, his honey optics darted back and forth between the two, then up at Steve as he exited the room. "It would, uh, be cruel to ask you to make your stay outside. I'm willing to, uh, share, if you are." the dhole-shifter finally uttered, directing his soft voice towards Andrea. A small speck of pride swelled in his chest, the youth giving himself a mental pat on the back at not stuttering as much as usual. It seemed, amongst other humanoids, his speech was growing more fluent.

{Sorry it's so short, low on muse and tired ^^'}

(You can borrow mine. She want's me to write Aridion and Avery's first meeting, which is going to be.... bad.)

Leo

Leo nodded at the reply. "It's settled then. You'll meet the other people on this floor as you run in to them, no-one is overly grumpy, so as long as you don't barge in their rooms unannounced, you'll be fine. Andrea, do you read braille? I'll mark the doors so hopefully you won't get lost." Leo noticed Ari loosening up around the Caster and himself, and gave a reassuring smile, moving up to take the seat Steve had vacated. "There's only one bed in there right now, but the couch is a pullout, so that should work until we can get another bed and a divider. There's no food in there either, you'll have to either go to the common area downstairs or go shopping." Leo thought that was everything.

Steve

Steve sighed, rubbing his forehead with his right hand. The skywalk. Of course. Knowing enough not to want to scare off the patient, he made himself smile, and motioned to the space around them as he spoke. "These are the apartments for the Runners, which are normally cut off from the rest of the Centre." He winced. "Sorry if I was rude before, I'm not used to seeing strangers up here. My name is Steve by the way. What is your name?"

Nehema
For a moment, as the man let his clear irritation show, Nehema felt bad that shehad intruded. Even if by nature she had difficulties just sitting around in one room, it gave no excue for wandering around and disturbing people. Her feelings of guilt abated somewhat at a smile, an act that surprised her and almost brought one of her own to her lips, even if it was forced. The apology and explanation were given kindly, in her mind anyway, since he could have just as easily sent her back. "I-its alright, I'm not used to any strangers," the pheonix joked weakly. "Good to meet you... I'm Nehema. The Runners... are the ones who do the international stuff?"

Andrea

Seconding Ari's gesture, Andrea broke into a cackle; he was certainly all a big beaming bundle of smiles today. He didn't like it. Alas, it was a special occasion, so it was allowed.
"If it isn't that much trouble, I'd really appreciate it if you marked the doors." the Caster chuckled rather sheepishly, half uneasy by all the changes in his new life and half ecstatic for the same changes he dreaded; thus, it wasn't the most beautiful of laughs. Or, any beautiful at all.

Feeling the couch sinking as Leo sat down, Andrea decided it was about time he took off and left the two men alone with their own business. "Thanks for everything. I'll... Go get some rest now." he uttered to Leo, almost out of breath, as he took up to his feet and began making his way across the hall to the damned third room on the left.
Getting rest was the last thing that Caster did. After claiming the couch - no way he was letting Ari sleep on it - Andrea made an escape via a portal and went shopping. Granted, instead of going to the nearest city he ended up a few thousand miles away, but he went shopping nonetheless.

Leo

Taken off guard by the harsh laughter, Leo chuckled softly, warmly, although he wasn't sure why. He wondered how someone's laugh could show dread- nonetheless he heard it. Watching the Caster stand, Leo chirped "See you later!" as Andrea slipped out the door. Huh. He didn't know he could chirp. That's new.

(There ain't much Leo can do right now)

Steve

"Nehema." Steve tried out the name, getting the unfamiliar pronunciation to settle in his mind. "Nice name. And yeah, mostly." He motioned down the hall, back towards the stairs. "Why don't we get you back to where you are supposed to be, or at least come with me so you aren't wandering alone. I was just heading down to the garden, if you would like to join me." Steve lied smoothly. He had no intention of going to the garden previously, but mostly he wanted to get her somewhere that there were healers. Something told him her wandering alone was to be avoided at all costs.

Nehema

She couldn't help blush a little when he repeated her name, a tad self-concious. She was made a little more so when he offered to walk her to her room or to the garden. Their encounter had been awkward already, and he was still almost a complete stranger, but the thought of staying cooped up in her room, or in one of those activity rooms made Nehema feel trapped. "I, um, I think I'd like to go with you to the garden. I-if I'm not imposing," the phoenix added hastily. Fresh air had been her goal from the beginning of her wandering anyway, and Steve seemed nice enough. Even as wary of people as she tended to be.

Steve

Steve was settling into his element as the surprise wore off, eager to help and make sure the people in the Centre were well cared for. Making sure to keep his third eye hidden as he looked directly at Nehema, Steve gave a warm, lopsided smile. "Nah, Leo'll understand, and besides, I can't stay cooped up all day. It would be my pleasure to accompany you." He held out his arm theatrically, still smiling. He looked about as nonthreatening as a being could be.

~ARI~

Startling as the other two in the room joined in with their own... forms of laughter, he stifled another outburst of giggles behind his hand. The Caster rose and headed off towards their now shared room, Leo calling a goodbye, Ari following suite. "Yeah, g'bye." he added raising a hand in a polite manner, before remembering Andrea couldn't see. Well, that would sure take some getting used to. However, the confident way in which the apparent blind man moved suggested there was a possibly magic influenced way for him to easily manoeuvre himself around. Shifting over to gaze at Leo, he gave a small, somewhat crooked and certainly sheepish smile. "Do you, er, want me to leave now? I feel a little rude, staying in your, uh, room this long."

Nehema

It was a strange place, with plenty of unfamiliar people, but Nehema somehow felt comforted by Steve's lopsided smile. Comforted enough to give her own, brief smile in reply anyway. The name Leo sparked a little curiousity in her, as if that trait hadn't stirred up enough of an event already, but she shrugged it off for now. His arm extended, and the redhead only hesitated half a moment before accepting it with her left; it was a mark of how at ease she was beginning to feel with Steve that was willing to have physical contact between them after so short a time. Something about him was... well, the opposite of threatening. "Its... this way, right?" Nehema pointed down the hall that led to the stairwell, and began walking forward with him, as the question was really quite redundant.

Leo

Leo shook his head. "Honestly I don't mind, my room is where people usually end up anyways." He stretched and yawned as he spoke, before realizing how what he said could be taken the wrong way, and he cringed, face coloring. "That's not what I meant. It's just, Steve is always in my room, and I get visitors in here all the time. I'm not actually sure my door can lock. I don't think I fixed it since that emergency in September....." Leo trailed off thoughtfully. "Anyways, I'm not private about my space. Anything I don't want people to see I keep in Steve's room, who I know locks his door." He gestured around to the flat, which upon further inspection seemed too neat for the home of a twenty-year old. There were plants on the counter and the kitchen area was spotless, the couch was large and soft, and a basket of blankets and throw pillows sat in the corner, some of them decidedly more feminine than anything Leo would have bought for himself. In all honesty the visible part of the flat seemed almost like the common room downstairs, except without the adjoining armory and door leading outside.

Finished speaking, Leo rolled his shoulders and stood, going over to a hutch that sat by the door, on the other side of the couch. It was previously unseen and unheard, but now a soft trilling came from it as he unlatched the door. He put his hand inside and a small, serpentine creature crawled out and wrapped around his wrist. "This is Des, she'll be helping mark the door." Leo said as he held up the trilling creature. Usually she ran around free but lately she'd been more territorial than usual, and was biting Steve because he smelled like the other colony of Tatzelwurms.

Steve

Steve was relieved when she took his offered arm, and let her lead him. "Yeah, to the end of the hall, and down the stairs. If we could fly I'd suggest taking the direct route out the doors at the other end of the hall, but I don't fancy a several-story drop." He let her lead them down the stairs and out into the fresh air, only gently correcting their direction when needed. "What species are you, if you don't mind my asking?" He asked as the afternoon sunlight made him blink, and he let his arm fall. The garden was surprisingly empty, and he motioned for her to follow him to a nearby bench. He picked a hawthorn bloom, and presented Nehema with the branch of delicate white flowers. He knew a healer would be able to draw from the plant and use it to heal general illness, but he himself lacked the talent.

Nehema

Nehema nodded, listening to the instructions and leading Steve accordingly. A small laugh escaoed her lips at his idea; if she had been uninjured she could have flown them both down easily. As it was, she had been forbidden to fly for a little while, so was relegated to walking. Her green eyes closed for a moment as she enjoyed the sunlight on her face, releasing her light grip on Steve's arm as he dropped his. "I'm a phoenix," she told him, taking a seat beside him. The redhead smiled as she accepted the flowering branch, its aroma comforting. "What about you? If you don't mind, o-of course..."
