Mumblepaw was quietly checking out Hawkpaw's current state while Stripepaw was asking Horsetail for help. I've never treated burns... He mumbled to himself. Maybe he actually did once or twice before, but that was pure luck. Burns weren't Mumblepaw's strong suit. "Hmm..." The tom closed his eyes, getting caught up in his thoughts of what to do. Hello? He heard a forced mew, he knew that voice. Spottedpaw...? Mumblepaw asked himself. Was Spottedpaw even alright, she didn't sound too good. "Mmm... pardon me, I'll be a short moment." He huffed to Stripepaw and padded off without another word. "...Spottedpaw?" He quietly called out quietly for the she.

Spottedpaw feels relieved as she hears Mumblepaws voice. "Why was everyone yell-" she takes multiply deep and painful breaths her throat was so dry. "Ing? Did something bad happen?" She feels strangely out of breath. She tries to move again but only to end up wincing. Her shoulder still hurt. "Where is everybody?" She felt as if there was nobody around her except Mumblepaw. She starts coughing. It shakes her whole body. It hurts so bad she almost yowls in pain.

Mumblepaw froze for a moment, listening to the she's cries of pain. It was heartbreaking for him. "....Everybody's in a really bad place right now. The medicine cats are stressed and exhausted from having to heal all the injured cats, their falling apart." He'd give shaky mew. "Stripepaw and I are trying to help Hawkpaw, he's not in his best state." Mumblepaw forced himself not to cough and instead forced himself to take a deep inhale of air. I'm not in my best state either, where is Starclan when you need them most? He asked himself, he wasn't how he felt about Starclan anymore. "You aren't doing too well, are you? I guess that's another cat that needs urgent attention.." He closed his eyes. "Tell me, how do you feel? Tell me about your wounds, your breathing." He asked calmly. He himself was breaking down inside, but he needed to be strong right now.

Hawkpaw's life was flashing before his eyes. The moment when he first opened his eyes and saw his mother before him. When he first became an apprentice. The time his mother told him about his fath. When his mother died. When he got a new mentor, Featherheart, who he loved. The time when he almost burned to death in a fire. And now he was here. In the worst state in the world. He saw a faded white light. "Hawkpaw, whatever you do, just don't go into the light." The words were muffled but he could make them out. He was snapped out of his, trance, and put back into reality. His eyes opened slightly to see Stripepaw over him. The tom was looking down his eyes filled with worry. Hawkpaw closed his eyes again.

Stripepaw|12 Moons|Apprentice|13/18 Health|Outside Camp

Stripepaw saw Mumblepaw pad away towards Spottedpaw. He looks back to Hawkpaw who had started to go limp. Stripepaw felt as though his heart stopped. "Hawkpaw, whatever you do, just don't go into the light." He meowed his eyes full of worry. Stripepaw could see the brown tom open his eyes slightly. He felt his heart start beating as if he had just run around the whole territory. The tom closed his eyes again. Stripepaw didn't know what to do. "Please StarClam, don't take this young cats life. He has so much more to live for. He hasn't even become a Warrior yet." Stripepaw begged looking up to the sky. He didn't care if other cats heard him or not. He would not let Hawkpaw die. Not yet anyways.

Rainpaw - 10 Moons - 15/18 Health - Outside Camp, River - Mentions: (all indierectly) Hawkpaw, Stripepaw, Mumblepaw, Spottedpaw, Snowecho, Horsetail

Rainpaw bolted ahead of the hunting party to the river, she looked behind her at the gathered cats. Her attempt of lightening the mood didn't work, everyone was panicking; she started to panic, too. She plopped beside the river's edge, watching the fish swim down the stream, Look at them, she scowled, They have it sooo good. They aren't dying of a fire, if anything they're enjoying the extra rain in the river! She hissed, swiping her paw quickly into the river, flicking two young trouts from the water. She delivered a blow to the fish with her teeth, killing her prey. Picking up the two fish by the tails, she raced over to where Hawkpaw and Stripepaw were, dropping one at their paws, and raced over to Spottedpaw and Mumblepaw and dropped the other. I can help too! She thought furiously, racing back to the river. She was sucking in shallow breaths now, wheezing with each one. Stupid lungs! Stop! I have to help! I can't watch my clanmates suffer! She swished her tail as she dashed past Horsetail and Snowecho, her pawsteps faltering as she tried to breathe. I must help! Don't do this to me, Starclan! She sat next to the river once more, watching as a school of minnows swam over the rocks. She tried to swipe some out, but she teetered on the edge, casting her shadow into the water and scaring the fish. Fox-dung! Stupid fish, let me feed my clan! Again she swiped, but she missed the fish. Her breathing became short and ragged, she looked around, panic-stricken, when she felt a pelt, soft as cobweb, and short like a kit, brush her side. When she looked down, no cat was there. Breezekit, no! Not yet! Now now! Of all times! She hissed again, now terrified. "No.." She croaked, was the smoke just now getting to her?! She lashed her tail as she laid down on her side, growling at herself for not being capable enough, and at Starclan for not letting her help save the clan.

Lioncloud let out a purr, as he saw Rainpaw speed off to go and hunt. He was happy to see, that the apprentices where so eager to help their clan. Getting to his paws, Lioncloud touched Harepaw's shoulder. Turning back to his so, the elder said, "Why don't we split up then? It will help us cover more ground." Nodding in the direction Rainpaw had run off in, he continued, "Why don't you go with Rainpaw and I'll take Harepaw."
Turning, the elder lead the way down to the river. As he walked, Lioncloud tried to make conversation with the much younger she-cat. "Harepaw, how has your training been going?", Lioncloud asked, just then the name of the young apprentices mentor came to him, "Has Swiftstrike been a good mentor? and do you know how he's been?", Lioncloud continued, he hoped that the warrior would recover, both for his own, as well as for his apprentices sake.

Sunstar opened his eyes slowly, blinking away the blurriness from his sight. He was on his side, looking behind Stormberry's ear at the ashes and charred trees.
"Why would Starclan do this to us.."
He snuggled up next to his mate, wanting to block out everything. He saw cats in the near distance, but with just losing a life, he didn't know if he had the strength to get up and go check in with them. Something felt wrong, and he knew that more than one cat was badly injured. Surely Horsetail and Snowecho were on it. He had faith in them, unlike his ancestors.

Snowecho could barely move his limbs to keep himself afloat. He closed his eyes and was about to accept his fate when he heard Horsetail call out for him. A splash told him that his fellow medicine cat had jumped into the river, and he found a small strength to keep himself afloat until he felt Horsetail by his side. He calmed down his breathing and nodded. "T-Thank you." He gasped. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Rainpaw race past them. He felt a twinge of betrayal that one of the apprentices would ignore him in his time of need. If Horsetail was not already by his side, he would probably have felt more panic.

Softpaw's senses cleared some more. He still felt exhausted, and everything felt like a blur. He blinked his eyes some and lifted his head to look around. Slowly, his vision focused. His hearing came back, and the first thing he heard was Snowecho's cry for help. Feeling too sluggish to move, he could only hope someone answered to the medicine cat's cry. A relieved sigh escaped him as he heard Horsetail's voice. He tried sitting up some, and noticed the other apprentices interacting amongst themselves. He grew curious and heaved himself to his feet. He padded over to Mumblepaw and Spottedpaw and settled down, hearing what the tom said about what was going on. He looked around at the apprentices gathered, and felt worry spread through him when he noticed that Alderpaw was missing.

Horsetail|20 Moons Old|Co Medicine Cat|Heath 30/30|Mentions Directly: Snowecho|Mentions Indirectly: Starclan, Icepaw, Clan|Location: In the River

Horsetail was glad to see that Snowecho was calming down, now he could help. Swimming forward, the sand colored tom moved to the back of the snow white tom. Grabbing the other medicine cat by the scruff of his neck, Horsetail started to drag both, himself and Snowecho, back to dry land. Dragging Snowecho along behind him, Horsetail swma in the direction of the rocky area he had jumped in on. Starclan help us, Horsetail thought. This was no time for the clan to lose one, if not two medicine cats. It was bad enough that Icepaw was so bad off now, the clan needed both Snowecho and himself to help the clan regain its strength.
The toms legs started to shake, as he got closer to shallower waters, weather it was out of exhaustion or cold, Horsetail did not know. As his forepaws started to scrape against rocks, relieve folded Horsetail. Maybe Starclan was still watching over them. Digging his paws and claws into the rock sand under paw, the dark sand colored tom dragged himself out of the water. Letting go of Snowecho's scruff, once they were both on dry land, Horsetail collapse on his side. His chest was heaving from the exerted strength, Horsetail's fur was darker than normal and cleaning to the toms body. Focusing his light blue-green eyes on Snowecho, he tried to let out a laugh, but it came out as a cough, making him spit out some water. Well, at least his lungs where probably clear of smoke now. "If you wanted to get yourself cleaned off that badly, you should've said something", Horsetail said, pushing himself up, Horsetail sat next to Snowecho.

Pebblesplash could scarcely believe the fire in the camp. She had been made a warrior only 3 moons ago, and the camp had already already on fire. Her gaze flitted towards the cats, who were being treated by the medicine cat. Pebblesplash coughed, and stood up. She shook her fur out and walked towards the rest of the cats.

Stripepaw looked around. He saw Pebblesplash walking over. "Hi Pebblesplash." He meowed sadly. He heard her cough and couldn't help but wince a little. "You should check with someone, that cough doesn't sound good." He meowed itching behind his ear. He looked back to Hawkaw then over to Horsetail. "Horsetail, can you check with Hawkpaw now?" He croaked. He was scared and a little anger. Why would StarClan take a young cats life away.

Softpaw looked over to Stripepaw when he heard his croak. Horsetail had just saved Snowecho from drowning. It was only so much a medicine cat could do. He looked at Pebblesplash at her question. "Give him some time to recover, he just saved Snowecho from drowning." He mewed, pointing his tail in the direction he had last seen Horsetail. He could tell that Stripepaw was worried about Hawkpaw, he was also worried, but for now they could only wait.

Snowecho spat out some water as they swam, happy to be saved by him. He felt a tremor of relief run through him when he felt solid ground touch him. He panted, trying to recover from the shock of almost drowning. He was tempted to ask for thyme, but there were other cats who needed treating. An ear flicked at Horsetail's cough, and he looked at the other tom, a weak cough-laugh escaping him. "T-The soot was unbearable." He mewed, playing along. He trembled a little, now cold from his unintentional swim.

Rainpaw shakily pushed herself to her paws, her head was spinning. Wheezing, she sat staring, poised, at the water. "I'm not... weak." She said between breaths, her throat burned. Why was this now bothering her? She was fine before! Her paw darted into the water, a minnow hooked on her claw. She stuck her tail up triumphantly. "See!?" She wheezed, looking around. The only cat close by was Snowecho, and he was quite a few tail lengths away. She thought back to when she raced past him in her attempt to feed her clan. Snowecho was drenched, Horsetail looking over him. Rainpaw didn't even realize until now. Did they see me panic? She shook herself, she'd show them! She padded over defiantly with the minnow grasped between her teeth, it wasn't much, but it was food. Her breathing got shallower and she fought for air, but she tried to hide it. She dropped the minnow next to Snowecho and opened her mouth to apologise for ignoring him and then comment about how she was fine if he wanted to know, but nothing came out but a croak. She wheezed, still not understanding. She wasn't injured on the outside. Was it because she was one of the last to leave the fire? She cocked her head to the side, opening her mouth again, this time gasping for air rather than for trying to speak. "I'm... fine..." She choked out, sitting limply beside the medicine cat. She realised too late that if she wanted to hide the fact that she WASN'T fine, she probably should have come straight to the medicine cat...
