Lynxpaw slowed as she caught sight of a group of cats, and guided by Clearsong she ran forward to meet them. Pebblesplash was there, Rainpaw was holding a bunch of cobwebs and... Hawkpaw. O, great Starclan. Hawkpaw looked a mess, and she could only look to her Clanmates in shock, wondering what had caused so much damage to the apprentice. "Get him to the medicine station immediately! Rainpaw, bring those cobwebs.. someone tell me what happened".

"We were out on the moor, and a dog attacked us! It had him pinned before I couldn't get there in time to stop... this!" she was frantic, trying not to have a panic attack. Pebblesplash stepped back, her eyes watering. shaking her head, she wandered to the river. Staring at her reflection, she bowed her head. How could I have let this happen? Dipping her paws in the river, she let her thoughts take over.

Lynxpaw's blood ran cold the moment Pebblesplash mentioned a dog. Of course! Not even a badger could cause injuries as brutal as the ones on Hawkpaw. She went to start carrying Hawkpaw to the medicine station- although she couldn't do it alone, and hoped Rainpaw or Clearsong would help her -she couldn't help but look back at Pebblesplash, crying at the river. She'd console her later, but for now it would have to wait. Hawkpaw's life was on the line...

Rainpaw dropped her bundle of cobweb on a large, flat oak leaf and trotted after Pebblesplash, Lynxpaw, and Hawkpaw. Her eyes were huge, A dog?! she yelped inwardly, shocked. It reminded her all too much of Breezekit and, another image popped into her brain, Tanglekit. Rainpaw's gaze hardened and her breathing became ragged with anger. She wanted yowl at the sky for this. How much pain and suffering were they to endure? Every time she turned around another attack was being placed on the cats and Starclan couldn't, no, wouldn't do anything to help. Her anger made her stagger and she realized how stiff she had become. She took a shaky breath, trying to calm down, when she noticed Lynxpaw stagger under Hawkpaw's weight. She rushed forward and helped carry Hawkpaw's weight to the medicine den. She noticed how small Lynxpaw looked compared to Hawkpaw and it made another bout of anger flare up in her chest. Why did both medicine cats have to go down? She hadn't seen Icepaw in a while and Lynxpaw was barely four moons an apprentice. She growled under her breath, looked at Lynxpaw her voice shaking, "I'm sorry you have to worry about so much." She said, slowly relaxing as she spoke, "I know it's a LOT to put on your shoulders, I'll do anything I can to help you out."

Earthquake, his attention caught by the yowling as well, dipped his head in return as Lynxpaw sprinted away. It seemed crucial she'd be there immediately, he couldn't help but think if it were of any importance that he'd be present too. As Lynxpaw took off, he was right behind her, and was all the more shocked to see Hawkpaw's condition. As Pebblesplash explained in mere anguish they had gotten into a fight with a dog, Earthquake stared at unconscious Hawkpaw, feeling sorry for the young tom.
He was no medicine-cat, but that didn't mean he couldn't help, he sat next to Pebblesplash, gently patting her shoulder with his paw, "Lynxpaw is gonna help him, he'll get better. Although he told Pebblesplash this, he tried to make himself believe it as well, he glanced back at Hawkpaw one last time with a worried look.
In the back of his mind, he hoped the dog hadn't followed them to camp.

Assisted by Rainpaw, Lynxpaw moved the injured apprentice into the medicine station, resting him gently on the floor. She was about to let go of Hawkpaw for a moment to arrange a moss bed for him, but as she went to do so Rainpaw suddenly spoke about Lynxpaw's own worries, and her determination to assist. It was a truly unexpected moment of reassurance, and there was a brief time where she paused, the moment of empathy catching her off guard. After a few seconds of silence, at last she said a quiet "Thank you." as she looked back to the other apprentice. Quickly, she turned away and to the small moss pile she and Icepaw had bundled together in their spare time, grabbing about a third of the pile. This would be used with the cobwebs to soak up blood; the rest would make a clean nest for Hawkpaw once the procedures were over. She'd need her herbs too of course, but for now the main issue at hand was stopping the bleeding. The large bite on his scruff and neck looked the most serious, and so Lynxpaw passed some of the moss to Rainpaw. "I need you to put this over that bite wound while I check the other injuries- press firmly, and don't move it until the bleeding stops."

Pebblesplash nodded to the temporary leader. Looking down, she placed her paws in the stream.
“Would you like me to do anything?” She asked Earthquake. Keeping her mind off of Hawkpaw and the accident was what she needed right now.
“Collect herbs, hunt... I don’t know,” she offered. She wiped her face with her paw. She closed her eyes, then snapped them back open. Every time she shut them, the scene replayed in her head. Pebblesplash turned her attention back to the temporary leader.

Rainpaw nodded to Lynxpaw and grabbed the moss with her teeth. She laid it across the wound and, with her paws, slowly applied her weight. She looked up at Lynxpaw when she felt steady and asked, "Am i doing this right? I left the cobweb on an oak leaf outside if you need more. Theres also a small cave near the dirtplace with losts of cobweb." Her rambling helps her calm down, Rainpaw is prone to panicking when she gets stressed and doing something helps soothe her mind. She looked back down at her paws and noticed with alarm that she had almost flexed her claws into Hawkpaw's fur, they were halfway out, she loosened the pressure for a moment and yelped. "Sorry!" Then sheathed her claws fully and put pressure back on, hoping she hadnt messed something up by loosing pressure. The moss had become red and sticky and she flicked her tail in fear.

"Steady..." Lynxpaw murmured, watching Rainpaw panic out of the corner of her eye as she studied the wounds on Hawkpaw's shoulder. "We might need the cobwebs if the bleeding carries on for much longer, but hopefully we won't need it- and yeah, hold it like that. You're doing great". As she spoke, she took a mouthful of moss and pressed it onto the shoulder wounds with one paw, then used a couple claws on her other paw to hook another piece of moss to pass to Rainpaw. "If it's soaked up as much blood as it can, swap it out". Time seemed to stretch on forever, it had only been maybe a minute or two but with the stress and pressure weighing down heavily on her mind, Lynxpaw was growing more and more agitated. If the bleeding didn't stop soon, either Hawkpaw would die, or she'd crack first.

Rainpaw took a few more deep breaths, trying to steady her racing heart. She replaced the moss with the new piece and continued to press. She closwed her eyes and prayed to Starclan he wouldn't loose too much blood. "I believe in you Lynpaw. You know enough to do this!" She decided to try to encourage her instead of having the growing tension in the air. After a moment she became quiet again, she tried to feel for a heartbeat. She found one, but it was slow. "Hawkpaw, pull through." She murmured, looking down she saw the bleeding start to slow. She didn't know if it was from blood loss, or a clot had formed, but she continued pressing. "It seems to have slowed down." She said after a few minutes of contemplating the speed.

Earthquake was quiet for moment "Tell me where the dog was, I'll need to know if we want anyone to stay away from there." He kept eye contact with Pebblesplash, hoping to keep her distracted from the situation. "You should get some rest if you can, I know today's been a handful for you." He tried his best not to cast his eyes on the medicine station, where he could hear struggling from inside.
He could only hope that Pebblesplash would tell him where the dog was... he leave that very night just to see.

Taking a deep breath, she nodded.
“The dog was toward the edge of the moor. We were near the rabbit warrens and away from the main tunnels. The dog was quite large...” she trailed off. Pebblesplash curled her tail around her paws.
“It ran off near the hills. Maybe it’s master called it, or it decided it didn’t want to fight more then one cat... no matter how small we were compared to it.”

"That's good. The shoulder wounds seem to have slowed too." Lynxpaw replied, helped a little by the encouragement. Very gently, she let go of the moss she was holding and moved across the medicine station to the stored herbs. There was a lot of herbs they were lacking or didn't have enough of, but she'd have to make do and hope for the best. Goldenrod, for the worst of the wounds... Horsetail, to assist any further bleeding... What about infections? Horsetail also helped against infection, but dog bites were risky business. Lynxpaw searched her mind, trying to remember any extra herb to add. Garlic? No, that's for rat bites, she remembered that lesson. It was then that she realised one of the shoulder wounds was still bleeding a little, although the other seemed to have stopped. It looked like she'd need the cobwebs after all... the cobwebs on the oak leaf... DRIED OAK LEAF! Abruptly, she turned to Rainpaw and asked "We'll need the cobwebs, but also, where did you find the oak leaf? We need oak leaves, dried."

Hawkpaw's neck wound seemed to have stopped bleeding enough for her to take her weight off of him. She exchanged the moss for new moss one more time and pressed it in place like Lynxpaw had shown her. She looked up, "The oak leaf was in camp, but I was fishing earlier by a HUGE oak tree." She said, remembering the twisting tree she had buried her bluejay. "It's in the direction Pebblesplash headed but a bit further upstream. Youll know it's the one if you see a juniper bush next to it." She said. She puffed up in pride as she remembered fishing with Pebblesplash just after the fire had stopped. "Do you want me to gather some leaves or to show you there?" She said, her eyes gleaming despite the dreary atmosphere.

"Well, it'd be great if you could, but it might actually be better if you stayed here to help me... I'm not sure where Icepaw is, so we'll have to ask someone else. Wait here a moment, make sure the wounds don't start bleeding again". Lynxpaw left the herbs she'd picked beside Hawkpaw, and then trotted outside of the den. "Is anyone able to help?" she called as politely as she could, hoping she could get the attention of a few volunteers. "I need supplies to help Hawkpaw, and fast"!
