The warmth and innate peace flooded through his bones, the healer appearing completely at ease, even in the presence of the powerful StarPride felines. Sitting up, he licked down the ruffled fur on his shoulders. Gazing up at the grea Sunstar and his mate, Lightstar, the tom bowed his head deeply, before slowly raising it again, ears perked forwards eagerly. The interplay between Turtlecub and Sunstar was concerning, to say the least. What did StarPride know that they were keeping from the living cats? Once anticipatory features morphed into worry, ears lying flat as he stared up at the large Atlas lion. ’We must join forces with MoonPride?’ although Shadepetal had no opposition to such a suggestion, he hoped both parties felt the same. There was no doubt there would be tension between the two Prides, if MoonPride agreed at all.

He blinked, startled, when an unfamiliar leopard approached. Was that… his father? The healer’s fur rippled with unease. How on earth did he deserve to enter StarPride? Turning his attention briefly away when the pair of lynxes addressed him, he nodded and smiled softly. ”It is my pleasure.” he uttered upon realising ‘Echo’ was now known as Dapplepaw, his apprentice. The healer took note that he should tell Dapplepaw that his parents had reached StarPride. Shadepetal looked back at his father just in time to catch him dipping his head to the leopon. The tom shifted his paws, before giving a small bob of his cranium in reply.

However, he didn’t dwell on seeing Slick again after he abandoned his family moons upon moons ago, instead his mind was swamped with speculations on what ‘allies’ they would have, and what this mysterious ‘darkness’ would manifest as.

Flicking an ear, he trembled. ”I don’t want to sleep,” he whimpered, pawing at his eyes. ”I might have nightmares…” The tom curled up tighter, breathing deeply to calm his nerves. Lavender eyes flicking up, he glanced over his shoulder at Dapplepaw, gaze large and doleful. ”Do… Do you think the rest of the pride believes me? I’m young, so the warriors or even older apprentices probably think I’m making it up or seeing things.” At least, he took some comfort in Duskstar and Shadepetal taking his sighting very seriously.

The tangy scent of herbs hung in the air, sharp and plant-y. The heavy smell made his lip curl in distaste, though he tried to suppress the urge to. The apprentice didn’t know how healers possibly could handle the overwhelming smog-like atmosphere, stuffy with all the herbs lining the walls. Though, he reflected, they must have to get used to it, right? Maybe he’d ask Dapplepaw if he minded the constant herb scent.

Warmth started to fill Duskstars body again, as he left StarPride. The king slowly opened his eyes and blinked his blue and green eye. The king was still lying next to the StarPool, his nose and toes dipped into the black and cold water. Slowly sitting up, the king stretched his aching muscles. Looking to the healer next to him, the liger let out a sigh. This was one of the reasons why he did not like talking to StarPride, their messages were always so confusing. Getting his paws under him, Duskstar slowly walked away from the water. His mind was still mulling over, what the StarPride cats had said. They needed to unite? and a darkness? Was this what the apprentice had seen? The king asked himself.

The elder let out a sigh, as she came out of the elders den. Taking a few slow steps, the old tigress looked around. The camp was more or less deserted, everyone was probably following their duties. The she-cat looked a bit lonely, all alone, but no, she was not the only one. Near the apprentice den, the elder noticed Cottonpaw. The elder opened her mouth as if to call out to the apprentice, but nothing came out. The old tigress shook her head, it was no use. Hanging her head a bit, the old white bengal tigress walked to the fresh-kill pile.

Remembering the glowing azure stone attached to a chain necklace Bluetooth had discovered, the healer nodded slightly as the StarPride cats mentioned it. ’Why would a human necklace be of use to us?’ the tom thought, confusion yet a calm acceptance distorting his features, brows furrowing a little to indicate his concealed curiosity. The next statement only made new questions form in Shadepetal’s head. ’How can a rock speak? And why in StarPride is it golden?’ however, he kept his jaws shut. It was best not to push StarPride for answers. They revealed only what they wanted. ’How do we find the golden rock?’ he thought, dismay welling in his throat in the form of almost wailed words. But, he choked them back, watching the starry felines turn and gracefully walk away from himself and the large king.

As Slick came forwards, alone from the ranks of StarPride, he uttered an apology. Shadepetal could do nothing but stare. ”It matters not now, I never needed you.” the tom finally found himself speaking tonelessly, dawn gaze was blank as he avoided his father’s eyes. He winced slightly, looking down at his paws to find them digging into the soft earth, yet a scraping sensation met his claws. He realised, with a surprising jolt of wistfulness, that they were waking up. The healer didn’t try to fight it, casting his eyes up to the sky as the clouds faded and the sun disappeared into darkness.

Blinking, the lithe leopon shook his cranium with a huff. Sitting up, he groomed down his ruffled shoulder fur, the had been bristling moments ago. Straightening to his paws, he shook out his dark rosetted pelt, attempting to lighten it from the heavy dampness of the cavern. With one last glance at the glowworm lit pool, he turned and fled after Duskstar. Catching up to the muscular tom, Shadepetal tilted his head up to cast a sidelong look his way. ”Where do you think the golden rock is?” he inquired, flicking an ear inquisitively.

Upon realising Dapplepaw believed him wholeheartedly, the apprentice blinked gratefully. ”It was this huge shadow creature hat kinda looked like a cat. It had glowing red eyes and it seemed really mean.” he murmured in brief explanation. Leaning down, Glowpaw liked up the herb with its odd, spiky-looking leaves. The tom felt his muscles immediately relax, the tension in his tight chest easing. His flattened ears rose up slightly and his twitching tail curled into his side neatly. ”Thanks.” Glowpaw smiled up at the lynx, nose wrinkling softly. Shifting in the nest, he awkwardly shuffled around to better face the healer apprentice, gaze warming with curiosity. ”Do you have any idea what the things I saw might mean?”

Duskstar shook his head, at the healers question. "I don't know, I've lived on this land all my life and I can't remember ever seeing one", the leader answered. "Maybe... maybe it's not really a rock, you'd know the best how StrPride always talks in riddles, so maybe it's something that only looks like a rock", the large liger added. He shook his head though and let out a sigh, "I'm grasping for tail heirs hear", the king admitted, "For now I think we should just tend to our duties, it will probably do us no good just standing here and trying to figure it out", Duskstar advised. Nodding in the direction of the healers den, he added, "And I'm sure you want to check on Glowpaw." Before leaving the healers side, the king turned back to Shadepetal, "I'm sure we'll figure it out", the was confidence in the young kings voice.
Walking past all of the dens, the king was mulling over the words that the StarPride cats had said. As he reached the large center cave, the liger shook his head and mane. This would do him no good, things would come with time. Looking to his den, Duskstar remembered the necklace. It was also important, maybe someone should have it with them. It would be nice if his mate could wear it, when he'd see her next the tom would tell her that. Nodding his head to the few pide mates still left in camp, Duskstar was glad to see that most were out either hunting or patroling, the king headed outside.
Taking in a deep breath, the king sat down. He was at the edge of the flat area, which marked the boundaries of the outside portion of the camp. He was glad to see that the warm sun had melted most of the snow, it was nice to see the green rolling over the hills for once and not the normal white blanket. Turning his head, the king watched Shadowstorm carrying back her prey. The impala would feed the pride well, Duskstar thought, happy to see that the pride was at least having a good time hunting. Duskstar twitched his tail, he wanted to see Breezestar. Maybe his mate would have some idea, as to what to do with the necklace.

Silentcloud sat by the fresh-kill pile, she had taken a small snowshoe hare for herself. It was meager pickings, but it would at least fill her a bit. The elder looked up, as she noticed someone coming into camp. It was Shadowstrom and she was carrying prey, it was quite big too. The old white bengal tigress moved a bit to the side, so the warrior could have enough space to place her prey down. Silentcloud gave the warrior a smile and a kind nod, as Shadowstrom started to clean herself. 'How was hunt?' the elder scratched into the dirt, it was quite convenient that most of the big cave was covered in a thin layer of soft dirt.
