-LOCKED - Discussion: Raffle Lionesses | |
Posted on 2024-08-05 08:57:00
We are aware of some issues that the community has been voicing with the raffle lioness system, with some complaints including it being difficult to pass on raffle-exclusive traits, raffle lionesses going to inactive accounts, and so on. We have had our own discussion among the developers and would now like to present a discussion where the community can provide feedback on the ideas we have outlined below regarding how the system can be modified, and possibly even give their own ideas if they aren't already covered. We will be closely monitoring this topic to record feedback, which we will then use for an upcoming site poll.

This rocks! I'm so happy the raffle system is getting an overhaul!! But, speaking as someone who has almost two years experience in this game, I do not think we should bar accounts with under 365 rollovers from doing anything. I feel it's too harsh :( 1 player likes this post! Like? Edited on 05/08/24 @ 13:46:33 by 🐮Steak🐮G1 4xRosette Tovero (#357683) |

Hey! This is awesome! Thank you for listening to the community and for all of your hard work! Here are my takes on these ideas! I'm not sure if they'll be popular, but here goes! 1. I love the idea of being able to find a near clone in explore, though I'd consider some variations to the actual raffle lioness that way she retains something unique about her. (Also reflected in point 4.) 2. I like the idea of an identical stud as well since it would give a handful of players a chance to get some of the traits off the raffle gal without a high chance of getting an exact clone. I think it would be neat to stagger the raffle stud from his lioness counterpart(s) to give anyone who wins a lioness the chance to breed and pass on her traits in the market. Maybe give a week or two stagger time for the sake giving cubs time to gestate, grow, and go onto the trading post. While i personally don't mind these lions' traits being more commonly dispersed through the community, there are people who feel like winning a raffle should be special and exclusive and want to make a profit off selling the cubs and traits. I feel like this would strike a balance between people who want the exclusivity and those who would just love to appreciate the beauty of the designs without investing a small fortune to do it. 2B. The 365 rollover restriction seems a bit heavy to me. I understand the goal is to ensure players who are the most likely to continue playing are the targeted winners with this, but it seems extreme. This would mean it would take someone at least a full year of never missing a RO to be eligible and it may discourage newer players some. It would take some who can only RO 3-4 times a week, but are still faithfully active in the game literal years to become eligible. 3. Having a stud with just a few traits would definitely make the traits for the lioness more difficult for the player base to access. Given how low the chance of getting an exact clone off breeding to the stud actually is, I think it's more prudent to go with the identical stud given how few players will be able to access him. If he's not an exact clone, I feel like more players should be eligible to win a studding off him. 4. I like this idea, but I think this would be cool to implement as part of the first point. I'd say have the main raffle be exclusive to the raffles (Lioness and stud.) Then have the variants and copies of them be released into the explore pool as stated in point 1. 5. I love this! Having the lionesses that wound up in places where they can't be shared come back would be amazing! I would love to see this happen in the form of finding them in explore at random so it's a super cool surprise to find one! This would also ensure that the re-released lionesses don't interfere with new designs being released. 6. Rewarding active players in this way is fantastic! I do understand that sometimes, we can't log in and RO every day, but having more chances doesn't guarantee a win regardless. Giving those who come on each day (Or most days) and interact with the game a better chance definitely ensures that the traits are more likely to be passed on to the community via that activity! 7. I do like the idea of giving long time, active players the chance for something awesome! I'd love to have another chance to will a beautiful new lioness that's designed with long term players in mind. But again, I have the same concern as I expressed in 2b about the number of rollovers being too extreme. I feel like cutting that back in both cases to 100 days would be a little more reasonable for players who are actively playing, but can only commit to logging on 3-4 times a week the chance to do it within a year's time and it rewards people who can log on every day more quickly. If someone is still here after 3 months of playing, I think it'd be safe to say the player is enjoying the game enough that they'll stick around a bit longer. Shortening the requirement would also make the goal less daunting for newer players and give them something more achievable to work toward in both cases. (Studs and Active player reward lionesses) Having a goal that feels unachievable for newer players may take away from the excitement of playing. These are my opinions and while I'm aware that not everyone will agree with them, I do hope they contribute something of value for both veteran players and fresh faces alike. I really like the idea of a raffle stud! I think winning a RL should be very special and I think the original RL system of one player one vote is what makes it so special, its truly up to luck then. However, I would love the idea of a second raffle lioness who's traits are switched up a little, to keep the original RL special but also allow those same traits to spread. For this raffle lioness, the idea of having a set number of ROs to claim is good, but I think 300 is too much, maybe half a year would be more balanced? I really like shenanigans (#23653)'s suggestion of seeing which date most inactive new players stop playing to figure out which is the sweet spot. The chased RL idea is pretty cool too and quite rewarding. Making them need a dreamboat level impression also ensures more active players and it feels more rewarding to reach that level. However, I think it should be limited to maybe 2 clones, not 10. It would be very nice to have these two clones have differences in trait, and I think it would be good to have a symbol or something that would clue players in that this is a RL modifyed clone :) Overall, I'm very happy this issue is being looked at and considered. I'd love to see more RL variants in TC and not just the same widespread RLCs 2 players like this post! Like? |

I don't know if this has been suggested, but what if alongside several of the suggestions already outlined in the news, claimable ncl lionesses, multiple raffles won and so forth, players that have already won can't enter again until next raffle or so, allowing other players a chance at winning? I'm not sure if that's already a factor or not, simply a suggestion. 1 player likes this post! Like? |

Holy shit this is awesome! This would be so good for the game but I think would bring down RL value which honestly I’m not mad about, they are so unattainable that bringing down their value would do more good than harm in my not so humble opinion ^^ 1 player likes this post! Like? |

1. I don't hate option 1 of the claimable rls, especially because the old system is not disposed of. could see this doing really well to disseminate traits, may or may not hurt the market but i think it'll be fine as i dont really care that much, it'll still be a pricy business because in every single one of these options, RLs are still rare. Rare is good! 2. also don't hate the second raffle stud idea where a few people can stud him, prevents traits from gatekeeping while also preventing direct clones from being made too insanely easily. good middle ground imo. also like the 365 RO idea personally, probably hurts statters the most but like. their thing is statting so i have to imagine they probably either have a second account they CAN access the RL on or they probably don't care much about RLs to start, but im sure there will be exceptions 3. basically same as 2, maybe even better for keeping RLs exclusive while also putting more traits into the world 4. i wouldnt mind 2-3 rls being given out at the same time, i think this really keeps the spirit that RLs were born with originally when the game was much smaller! 5. replicas of lost lionesses ...... i couldnt complain about that. maybe this could be done in conjunction with some other change? 6. meh, i dont think weekly wooing would do much good, i think this does offer a genuine disadvantage to people who can't log in a lot, even if they're a savvy long-time player who could appropriately distribute the traits of the lion 7. second RL is cool and good, 365 rule mentioned earlier still applies 2 players like this post! I think studs are a good idea, but I think making them just RL clones is extremely boring, I'd rather that they focus on spreading traits throughout the player base than just throwing out clones of an RL line. I think studs can go one of two ways without crashing the RL market: A. Studs are like celestial lionesses, they have mostly empty slots outside of a few BO traits, and there's a small number of winners(2-5), but they're more frequent than an RL. B. Make the studs closer to Savage Males, where they are weekly themed studs with a mix of BO and custom traits with a much larger winner pool OR...it's not a raffle at all, but rather everyone has an extremely limited chance, such as being able to breed ONE lioness, especially if there's a price(1K SB) or there's a small quest to do before you unlock him.(Like a snake's quest, nothing too difficult, collecting 5 of an item, beating a few lions, claiming a few gals, etc.) It also opens up new things that these studs can bring, such as combo traits, new combo bases/BO bases, etc. without just being RL copies. It could also be a way to introduce male hybrids in the far future.

I definitely like the idea of being able to attempt impressing the weekly rl daily, giving more active players a higher chance. It's frustrating seeing an inactive player win it, leading to extinct rls. A second rl for those who played 365+ days also sounds like an amazing idea, I would definitely love to see unique rls specialized for devoted Lioden players! As an add on to my past comment about only allowing players to go for the raffle lioness if they roll on Wednesday and onward (me being someone who normally only plays on the weekends and some days during the week) what if you did a certain amount of days PER week? So if someone would have had to roll on Wednesday through Friday, that's three rollovers. So you could potentially do at least 3 rollovers per week. So a new raffle lioness is offered on Fridays. So people have from Friday to Thursday to rollover three times if that makes sense. That way us (mostly) weekend players have a shot! Just because we don't rollover on a certain day doesn't mean we aren't active 1 player likes this post! Like? |

I'm excited to see this post! The size of the playerbase has long since outgrown the current raffle system, but I think any one of these solutions would go a long way towards 1) distributing raffle attributes and 2) making the raffle feel more like a "community" experience. Thank you for listening to player feedback. In my opinion, raffle studs should be implemented no matter what other solution(s) are chosen. My Wolvden friends seem in agreement that the raffle stud system in that game works well, and I have long-since been jealous of how much more accessible it is than the current Lioden system. The concept of special lionesses roaming in explore carries a special kind of magic and whimsy to me -- I like the idea of embedding raffle features into gameplay in that fashion, and I think it would make these lionesses feel all the more special. I also like the way it rewards not just active players, but players who are continuously engaging with the core aspects of the game. However, I have some concerns about the logistics of this system, and I think this represents a pretty massive change to the raffle formula. Would these lionesses be more likely to appear on given days of the week, or specific times? Would this mean an end to special raffle backgrounds? Is there a way for players to opt in, the same way they do to our current raffles? That all being said.... I think special lionesses in explore would be a wondrous feature, and I look forwards to seeing how the team iterates on that concept if that is the road you decide to follow. There is speculation in this post about the idea of giving accounts with 365+ rollovers some extra benefits, and I see a lot of pushback to that in the comments. However, I personally think a boost to older players would be an incredibly valuable feature -- as long as it is framed as incentivizing dedicated play, and not something that excludes newer players. I've seen so many long-time players lamenting their lack of luck, especially when it comes to the raffle lioness or breeding rare mutations, and those players deserve a win! That being said, I'm not sure if the ideas above successfully avoid making newer players feel excluded. I have two potential ideas that reward older players, but might feel more "fair": 1. Simply give older players more raffle entries. Perhaps everyone gets one entry by default, the same as they do in the current system, but players with 100-200 rollovers get two entries, 200-300 get three, and so forth, capping off at (for example) five possible entries. 2. The creation of a new currency type: "Raffle Tickets". Players can earn one new Raffle Ticket every seven rollovers, and can decide whether to spend them every week or hold onto them for when they see a raffle lioness they truly love (with a cap of perhaps 3-5 entries per week to keep things feeling more level). Perhaps when an account hits 365+ rollovers (or for every 365 rollovers) they are gifted an extra cache of Raffle Tickets as a thank you. This solution would incentivize long-term and active play, while not forcing players into specific days of the week when they need to roll over if they want a chance of winning. If raffle studs are also included, I would imagine their tickets would stick to the SB entry price -- or perhaps players could trade something in the range of 5-15 Raffle Tickets (over a month of rollover rewards) for a guaranteed breeding, at the expense of losing out at a chance to win the week's lioness? A new currency system creates all manner of wrinkles, but it might be worth considering. Thank you for your time, and your hard work. I'm looking forward to seeing the reformed raffle system! 5 players like this post! Like? |

I'm very much into the idea of raffle studs, this sounds awesome! However for the raffle lioness clones in explore I'd only consider it if they had blocked the option to win them by GB or Tiger Lily, so we can be 100% sure newer or less experienced players who don't have those resources have the same chance to claim her. 2 players like this post! I don't really like the idea of releasing more copies of the same RL, as it wouldn't feel as special anymore if more people get to win her as well. Maybe instead of a copy of that RL you can release some special NCLs that share some of the original RL traits, but not all? I do like the idea of raffle studs and of the second raffle lioness for people that has done more than 365ro. I also think that re-releasing RLs that were lost in suspended or closed accounts would be nice to have old designs back in the game. I do however have a bit of mixed feelings for the idea of only letting people that have been active in the last to days winning the RL and the idea of having daily impression attempts, as those can punish people that can only play rarely or only on certain days because of work/school/life in general. I agree that seeing a RL ending locked up on an inactive account is annoying for everyone, but maybe there are other ways to prevent that? 4 players like this post! Like? many of these ideas sound great! thank you so, so much for listening to the community and working to implement much needed changes to this very outdated system. i am wholeheartedly on board with the idea of having the lioness go only to accounts who have rolled in the past two days - i think this alone will dramatically reduce the number of lionesses that end up inactive. however, if someone enters for the lioness and is then not active in the two days preceding the draw, their silver beetles should probably be refunded as they were removed from the drawing pool. the idea of impressing a lioness daily to build up a greater chance of winning her has been one i’ve liked for a while. it intuitively makes sense, both from the game stand point and in-universe! :) raffle studs would dramatically help with the issue of new/requested traits failing to distribute to the community in the intended way if/when the winner of a lioness is inactive or chooses not to offer the traits to other players. as for lionesses stuck on suspended/closed accounts (or accounts inactive for a very long time) i think this could be a good way to integrate the idea of chased lionesses - perhaps if not raffled to the entire site again, a few copies could be placed into the chased pool. a second lioness restricted to accounts over a year old and/or more than one lioness per week also sound like interesting ideas, but my only concern there would be managing the amount of unique designs needed to meet this demand. it would likely require that a greater number of people than just one be responsible for producing designs. 2 players like this post!
