------------------------------------------------------- The World -------------------------------------------------------
In a supernatural-dominated world, The United States had the most lax regulations on supernatural beings, causing most pure humans to have left for countries with stricter policies, such as Canada, which is human-only. In this world supernatural beings are known and have been a big part of history. Some countries (Most of eastern Europe) treat supernaturals as little better than animals, others have them as slaves (Africa), and others still regulate them like criminals, and lock them up for simply being born with certain powers (Western europe). Canada, of course, is a refuge for the puritans who believe humans are the superior species, and does not allow supernaturals within their borders.

My character Avery runs a supernatural medical centre in Central City, Colorado. He has been around for quite a while, and had money to spare, so he founded the centre with help of his friend's hoard. It's a open, spacious building with adaptations for all manner of creatures. Avery often goes on runs to other countries to save supernatural beings in deplorable situations, with input from Steven, an unknown being with a third eye and the ability to see anything, anywhere in the world. Steven was dropped off by an interdimensional rift in Miami, one of the most active areas for random supernatural activity. Avery often goes undercover as human on these runs, and risks his life and freedom. (Ideally I would like a team here) He brings back as many supernaturals as he can, and rehabilitates them in the centre. There is a team of healers and counselors at the centre as well, but he feels personally responsible for many of the people he brings back.

The friend mentioned earlier is a dragon.

------------------------------------------------------- The Centre -------------------------------------------------------
The Center is like a combination of Doctors Without Borders and the Mayo Clinic in this world, so any other place would have their own places- plus there are healers who can deal with most things in their town.

So, location wise, I was thinking Salida, but logistically it would have to be somewhere like Central City, which is what I am going with. That's an hour's drive from Denver International Airport. All observations are from the road. There are portals, which take people to the centre and back.

The centre is comprised of four buildings connected by tunnels- a skywalk and an underground tunnels- one filled with water so the creatures more comfortable in water can swim between the buildings should they choose. The buildings are connected because of the harsh winters.

The buildings are arranged in an arc around the parking lot, with a small airstrip to the left of the buildings. the building closest to the airstrip is for international patients- those brought by Avery seeking asylum. (There is a lot of paperwork Avery [read: Avery's friend Leo] does to allow that.) The first two floors of building closest to the road is for general patients- the clinic. The two buildings in between have different specialties- One building is for intense healing: Trauma, Oncology, Neuropathology, the like. The other is more mentally oriented, they deal with depression, anxiety, multiple personality disorder, and any number of other mental issues, and are open twenty four hours a day and see - at last count- over one hundred patients a day.

The building for international patients is somewhat of a mystery, no visitors aside from direct family are allowed and then they are usually not allowed past designated meeting rooms. There is another associated building in Denver itself that helps international patients get back on their feet in a completely different social structure. Any people who work there are carefully screened, and those who quit or retire are often bound under memory charms that are meant to protect patients and the supernaturals who work to help them.

The doctors are a mix of healers and those with no healing power, but they all are trained.

The buildings are all constructed with scent neutralizers, so as not to overwhelm the patients with enhanced senses- it can be a little disorienting, as the walls seem to absorb scents.

Those are the technical details- now for the visual description.

Driving up, there is very little to see on the highway, except the mountains trees, and snow, driving into the large parking lot there is a lot set aside for ambulances and trauma, just between the intense healing building and it's sister area in the clinic. A few doctors take shifts in the clinic trauma centre on a rotating basis. The other three buildings are respectively, five stories for international, four for intensive healing, and four for mental health. the buildings all look like a cross between grecian and modern architecture, supported by pillars. I can do descriptions for the second and third buildings if you need, but here's hoping we won't have much set in there.

In central Denver, Upper East Side New York, and Los Angeles, there is a white building with a green cross on the front, and a tiled entryway with one person manning a desk. Just inside the door a portal shows the main lobby, with flashes of light flickering around the edges of the image. passing through the portal would feel like putting your hand in jello, but your entire body.

Walking into (or being deposited by a portal into) the clinic building, you are greeted by a wide, open area five floors high, with balconies at each floor. There is a blue glass dome ceiling, letting the natural light in and refracting it. The building inside is white and grey, with Grecian style architecture. Pillars support each floor, each with a sconce that lights up as night falls. There are stairs to each floor, as well as elevators. To the right of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with comfortable chairs of various colors, and a small, set in pool that connects to the other buildings. Straight back is the general medicine, and to the left is injury and trauma. The clinic itself is about equal in capability to a hospital. The balcony above is lined with rooms- patients who made appointments are often seen there. Above that are the offices that keep the centre running, with scheduling and the like.

------------------------------------------------------- Species -------------------------------------------------------
Species in this world can be anything- even species with the same name can be different. For example, there could be werewolves that perpetually have wolf features and must turn on the full moon, or human-appearing werewolves that are only tempted to turn on the full moon, or anywhere in between.

I have a few species worked out, for which the rules will never change:

Changelings are the product of Fey Magic encountering a growing human soul. The more magic involved the more powerful the changeling will be. Modern genetic testing has proven that the changelings are genetically purely human, with any enhanced characteristics being the product of their magical influence.

Faeries (Seelie) are the only species no longer found anywhere on earth. originally they lived in a separate realm and travelled back and forth between their home, and this world. Political issues arose, and the seelie sealed themselves off somewhere around the 1700's

Dragons ; It is said they are as old as the earth and will die when it does. They used to be one, a hundred-headed dragon, each head with their own mind, named Ladon, but after failing to protect the tree of immortality, they were split in to a hundred different dragons. The main head, was cursed by the gods to be unable to interact with any of the other heads. Dragons cannot be killed. Ladon- the main head- knows this firsthand. The first few hundred years after he was separated he spent trying to die- until Avery got ahold of him. They meet up every few years for things now, and he was the one to help Avery found the Centre. So, dragons are always white, except Ladon, who has a red crest on his head. Ladon protests both their classification with the Eastern Ryuu and the Western Drako, preferring to be called a "Helenistic Drake"

Nehema

Only hesitation a moment before taking his arm, Nehema smiled and followed Steve as he led her to where a man stood leaning against the wal. He looked tired, and somewhat familiar. She stopped when Steve did, standing just a tad behind as the man began to speak. Clearly it was an inside joke or something similar, and she managed a weak half-smile in response. The flash of his eyes confirmed he was Ladon, as did the follow up introduction. The redhead released her light grip on Steve's arm only to shake Ladon's hand, stepping forward a little.

It was amazing to see him again, after so long, just in the sense of impossibility and credulity. "Nehema," she told him, "We met b-before, a very long time ago, in Greece. I went by Astraia then, for a while anyway..." Isaac was also a chosen name she had taken. Nehema had been given to her by a group of peole she had once known, mundanes who had thought she was like them. She had felt like a different person; it only felt right to seek a new name. Though she introduced herself that way, Nehema wouldn't take any offense or assign judgement if he didn't remember. After all, a long life tended to wash back the minor memories in favor of important ones.

{*slaps this mess into the thread* Oof}

~ARI~

Catching the looks regularly shared between the two men, he blinked a little as he realised Avery's abilities. "Nice to, uh, know." cursing his stutter that increased with nerves, he swallowed and breathed in calmingly. The rush of air into his lungs. Focusing on the sensation, he blinked, as if clearing his mind. Which he was. He had no doubt Avery had immense control over accessing other beings' minds, but having an anxious dhole-shifter right next to him, worries racing erratically through his head surely wouldn't help the winged man. Or... no longer winged man.

"Ah." he tensed up as he remembered. "Right, of course." with a soft, slightly shaky giggle, his fingers fluttered at his sides. Though, it was interesting to hear the, presumably, term of endearment Leo used for Avery. Aithar. After a few moments, his gaze slid just to the right of Avery's gaze, a habit of nervousness he had. Avoiding eye contact. He really didn't do well with social interactions. The space became sour with awkwardness. Or was the tension simply all in Ari's mind?

Steve

Ladon

It took all of a second to remember. Ladon was... protective of his memories, and used spells to remember things long past when any other being would forget. "Astraia. I met you before your first flame, and growled at you, for trying to talk to me."

He had been trying to figure out how to annoy one of the pantheon into killing him. Only about five of them had the power, Zeus, Hera, Hephaestus, Ares and Athena. Zeus backed Hera in his punishment, and he knew Athena would only make his misery worse, not spare him frome it. Hephaestus didn't interact with others enough to be considered. Which left Ares. Ares also wouldn't approve, but perhaps if he could earn the beings favor he would be granted his wish.

"And again, in... one of the wars, I don't exactly remember which, I was in charge of guarding the medics and healers, and was assigned you." Ladon was not surprised she didn't recognize him, he was under a powerful spell that used the power from his dragon body to power a flawless shield he could use at will. That spell had been driving him mad though, so the witch who cast it refused to leave it in place.

Steve

Steve watched their interaction quietly, not leaving until there was an indication he should go, but stepping back to just out of hearing range but still visible.

Leo

Leo noticed Ari's growing unease. He had studied body language and the shifter was no poker player or spy. Reading the shifter's body language was simple, and he moved closer, protectively standing at Ari's back in an attempt to reassure.

Avery

Avery was careful to keep shielded from Ari's thoughts, to the point where he didn't even notice the tension until Leo signed quickly at him from just out of Ari's sight range. /Nervous. too much. you should go./ it was an invented language, incredibly complex and designed to communicate with only one hand. Ladon had taught all the Runners. He nodded, and looked back over his shoulder. "Well, I should be going, I have a couple things to check before I head to sleep. I have a couple nocturnal patients I am scheduled to meet at two a.m. I hope Andrea actually sleeps, because I didn't specify when tomorrow starts." He gave a cheeky grin before turning to leave.

Leo

Laughing, Leo barely managed to call after Avery before he could leave. "Tell Dad I want to talk to him soon. I know you will see him sooner than I will." Getting a nod in affirmative, Leo looked back and forth between the door and Ari as Avery walked away. "My room has a pull out couch too, if you don't want the two a.m. wake up." Leo offered mildly.

Nehema

Her eyes widened a little when Ladon did remember, before a small, sheepish grin formed on her lips. "So you do remember then," Nehema said, laughing a little. She couldn't help it. "I'm sorry about that, I hadn't meant to be annoying..." Even though she had been alive awhile by human standards, she had been practically the equivalent of a child then. A bothersome one, she supposed, since she hadn't quite figured out when people wished to be left alone. Plus, the chance of meeting Ladon had brought forth her impulsive side.

Catching movement out of the corner of her eye, the phoenix turned her head to cast a glance at Steve; she was glad he hadn't just left. Ladon's mention of meeting her again in a war drew her attention back to him however, and she racked her memory for the instance. "I... That was you?" Nehema had only really been assigned a guard once during war, which made it a little easier. "World War 2, I think. I should thank you then, you saved my life, and those of many others." Normally, hospitals and the like were fairly safe from combat targeting, but on the front lines it tended to get dangerous; Nehema had refused placement anywhere else. If she was going to go all out in helping, she would do it where she was most effective.

"And now we meet again. I'll try not to be so much trouble this time around," the redhead gave a wry smile, joking for the most part. Of course, she may have already failed that by wandering into an area she wasn't supposed to and being beat up aready, but the phoenix elected to ignore that.

Aleister

The young man shifted around some, making sure he was facing the man. He watched intently, and a confused look came upon him as Aridion began to sit on the floor. He unconsciously sat a little more straight and taller. He still maintained a defensive look, but seemed less tense, maybe even a bit more assured. Looking forward to answers, he looked down upon him and listened. He took it all in, and paused for a moment to analyze what he had listened. "..Supernatural? Were.. cats? I don't even like cats- you mean.. that wildcat from last night?" Aleister questioned, seeming to droop a bit as he tried to connect things in his mind. "Were- werewolf? Were cat? Am I gonna turn into a freaking cat?" He stammered, in a joking, questioning tone. He looked deep into Aridion for a response, even though the man wouldn't look back.

Ladon

Ladon smirked. "Sounds about right. And I don't think I would be here if I minded a little trouble." He brushed off both the apology and thanks- it was the past, and had no bearing. "I hope you consider staying. I seem to remember you were quite skilled. We always need a new pair of hands around here." Ladon mentioned casually.

Aridion

Aridion sighed rubbing his forehead. "In short, yes. He flicked his gaze upwards toward the newly minted werecat. "There are a few details you should know. Unlike Shifters, Weres must shift on the date specific to their species. Yours would be the day you were turned. Weres also have far less control over their shifts, and cannot shift at will outside of extremely rare cases. Certain variants can partial shift, and without asking the were who turned you what his line was it is a dice roll whether or not you can. Also, you may not remember time in your werecat form, again, without asking the were who turned you we won't know, and it is extremely unlikely they will come forward, as it is illegal for a were to turn a human without prior agreement, and a couple forms that need to be filed. Shifters cannot turn people, weres can, so you now have to be careful. I am immune to a were's bite, as many supernaturals are, but in some cases the interaction of the were's magic and the supernatural's is deadly, as in the case of shifters." Aridion hoped he wasn't overwhelming the young man, but he needed to convey this information.

Nehema

She managed a little grin back. "Fair enough," Nehema replied. The Centre certainly did attract trouble, if only so it could set about righting wrongs. And many of those would not be easy. Luckily, hers had been a mostly simple fix. The phoenix couldn't help but blush some at the compliment. "I don't know about quite skilled, but... I did what I could." It had never crossed her mind to stay, or to really even come to the Centre except for when she found herself in need. Too many people, too many chances, and yet...

Yet she had already made - what she hoped was - a friend, and found a familiar face encouraging her to. "Y-you think I should stay?" Tthey probably could use all the help they could, considering how much the Centre handled worldwide. "I... I'll consider it. It's been a while since I have stayed in any one place..."

Ladon

Ladon smiled just barely. "I do. You could do a lot of good. And if it turns out this isn't the right fit for you we won't make you stay, but I really would like for you to try." His voice had softened and lowered to what Avery had dubbed the 'mentor tone'. He closed his eyes again, leaning back against the wall. "Besides, we have other locations, and the Runners travel a lot, so if you get restless it's not like you would be anchored here."Ladon

~ARI~

Feeling a warm, comforting presence slide closer to him, tension seemed to ease off his shoulders, allowing them to roll back and drop down. Catching sight of Avery nodding discreetly after a few moments of silence. Then, Leo's father- it sounded so strange to put it that way, conveniently excused himself. He was almost positive Leo had somehow communicated with Avery. Either by gestures, or simply asking him to go telepathically. However, he was momentarily distracted by the man's parting words. It was near impossible to resist a huff of amusement. Poor Andrea.

Finally turning to Leo, seeing Avery was safely out of sight, he allowed himself the freedom to regain his perky dhole ears. Reaching up, he lightly patted them, soothing himself as his fingertips ran along the soft fur. "If it's not too much trouble..." he trailed off sheepishly, biting his lip.

Leo

Leo snorted. "Hardly. I keep a stockpile of spare toothbrushes and stuff, I'll show you where it is." He looked at the door lamentingly. "It would be rude to keep working and making noise." He hated leaving the project half-finished though. His fingers twitched, and he almost wanted to keep working, but put it aside. The most beautiful works weren't carved in a day. Which is why Aithar and Dad have dragged you out of the work shop too tired to see. A spiteful little voice popped up, and Leo shrugged it away.

Nehema

She was surprised at Ladon's confidence in her. Nehema had helped many soldiers during the wars, but... it never had seemed like enough. Maybe this was her chance to do more. Something about his tone certainly made her think so. And if she could be a Runner, then she could go wherever she pleased, more or less. Phoenixes were creatures of freedom, so just the assurance she could travel was major point for her. "You seem to know just what I needed to hear," The redhead replied quietly, lifting her free arm to run a hand through her hair. One side of her mouth quirked up in a sort of half-smile, amused and almost surprised at herself. "I... Who would I see to join?"

Ladon

"You are talking to him." Ladon smirked, eyes still closed. He uncoiled from his position against the wall, opening his eyes and stepping closer. "I have executive decision when it comes to the runners. Others have influence, but I get final say." He extended a hand. "Do you want to join us? There will be some paperwork involved, to get you official, but the filing shouldn't take more than a week." Of course, Ladon had to do a bit more paperwork on his end.

Paperwork. So much paperwork.

Anyways..... "If you join, you would be able to live wherever you wish, here or anywhere really, as long as you can work with us on runs. I actually haven't seen two of my runners for a while. I'm sure they'll turn up eventually. Otherwise, don't cause an international incident without supervision. Those arre the expectations and guidelines. Just say yes or no." He maintained a cool tone, but was hiding excitement at the prospect of a new Runner.

Nehema

"Alright, Ladon," Nehema said, studying his face. There was anticipation in the air, of a different sort than one feels during a fight, but interesting nonetheless. His explanation of the guidelines suited her just fine. She'd never been big on making a scene anywhere anyway, though it did happen on occassion. "I accept your offer." The phoenix reached to take his hand in her left one, a way that sort of sealed the deal.

Except for the paperwork, of course. That would be fun... and lengthy, considering she hadn't taken the time to fill out a single form in the last few decades. Ah well, it wasn't that important, really. "I think I'd like here as my housing choice. That way I'll be on hand whenever." Plus she still had to heal up herself. The arm may only require a sling, but her stitched leg would take a little bit.

Ladon

Motioning for Steve to come over, Ladon nodded. "I am glad." When Steve joined them he filled the young man in on Nehema joining, and smiled at Steve's reaction.

Steve

Steve groaned in disappointment. "Why do you do this to me Grumpyscales?" He covered his face with his hands. Suddenly perking up he looked at Nehema. "Not that I am not thrilled you are joining." He hurriedly said. "But I'm the person who gets stuck with the paperwork." He glared at Ladon. "And if your partenr and son have anything to say about it, I'll be processing the forms for three new Runners this week. THREE!" He huffed. "I'm not mad, just exasperated." He started playing with a strand of hair by his ear, twisting it around his finger. Finally he relaxed, and looked towards Building One. "We should get started."

Ladon

Ladon wondered what Steve meant by three.
