Swallowpaw's eyes burned and she squeezed them shut against the heat and the smoke. She vaguely felt herself being tugged at by another cat and she let her body go limp. Her long fur was singed and the heat was exhausting. Swallowpaw flopped around on the cat's back, grateful that someone finally found her. Her chest heaved as they made their way out of the smoky camp. Her small frame was wracked with coughs and her delicate paw pads stung from the hot ground. She slowly slipped herself off of the cat's back and opened her gummy eyes to see that Willowstar was her saviour. "Thank you Willowstar." She wheezed, still gasping for actual oxygen. Swallowpaw stumbled forward and nuzzled Willowstar's soft coat before limping to the water and the rest of the clan.

"Good, you might not be a medicine cat apprentice, but you still know a lot about herbs", Horsetail said, nodding his head to Mublepaw. Nodding her head, at Pebbleshplashe's words, Horsetail quickly went to work. Quickly the tom moved over to stand next to Hawpaw, although the apprentices fur was scorched, the biggest probably seemed to be his breathing. The same was for Spottedepaw, Horsetail could hear her raspy breathing from where he stood. Leaning down, Horsetail put his ear to Hawpaws mouth. The toms breathing was shallow and labored, placing his paw on the apprentices flank, Horsetail could barely feel it rising. The apprentice was starting to drift off. They needed Juniper berries, Honey, and something to give the apprentices strength, like Sorrel or Lamb's ear. Horsetail was about to bark out orders to the apprentice around him, but paused. He just needed to see...
"Mumblepaw", Horsetail bagan, turning to the apprentice, "What do you think that they need?", Horsetail asked. He new that time was pressing, but he wanted to test the apprentice. Maybe, just maybe, the apprentice could have the potential after all, to become a medicine cat. As he waited, Horsetail started to think through where the herbs, that he had thought of where. Juniper berries was the easiest, there was a large cluster of bushes not too far up a nearby hill. He also new of a sorrel patch towards an old two leg nest, it would be a bit of a walk, but not too bad. Now honey, that was more of a problem. There was a large hive in an old prectialy dead tree, in the direction of camp. The problem was, that the bees were very aggressive, Horsetail still remembered the last time he had gone. The tom had come back with a lot of honey, but he also had been stung many times.

Willowstar - 33 Moons - Leader - 40/40 HP - Territory/River - Mentions: Swallowpaw, Wolfpaw, Open

Once they got closer to where the clan was supposed to meet up, Willowstar could feel Swallowpaw stirring on her back and she slowed down, eventually stopping at the edge of the meet up location. Letting the young apprentice get back to her paws, she let out a small purr and lightly judged the top of her head. “Of course, Swallowpaw. Make sure you take some time to rest and get yourself checked out whenever either Snowecho or Horsetail aren’t busy.” The female calico called out to her as she padded over towards the rest of the clan. Her gaze scanned over all that were there and it was easy to see that not everyone was doing well. It would take plenty of time to rebuild the camp and for the damage to be replaced and regrow.

She sat along the edge, her eyes slightly narrowed as she sat in thought, thinking over how many were injured and how long it would take for everything to recover before she realized that there was one familiar pelt that she wasn’t seeing. Wolfpaw wasn’t amongst the others and that had Willowstar slightly worried. Though he was out of the camp before the fire started, there was a good chance that he wasn’t aware of what was going on. As she was preparing to go out and search for him, a set of bushes nearby shook and out popped the pelt that she was longing to see. “Wolfpaw, where in Starclan have you been?” She lightly scolded him, though more relieved to see that he was unharmed. When he noticed who was standing before him, he peeled up and padded over, happily rubbing his head against her shoulder. “I was out like you told me, though it seems like I missed something.” The young tom mewed as he sat down next to her, looking at all the cats.

Stripepaw looked to Horsetail. "Will he be okay?" The tom asked looking to the Medicine Cat. He was really worried. He would never admit that but other cats probably already knew. He flicked his ear, blinking. He looked to Hawkpaw. The apprentice was hanging on but Stripepaw could tell his grip was starting to loosen.

Mumblepaw would looked at Spottedpaw and Hawkpaw, his eyes narrowed. They don't look like they'd last much longer.. He gave a small sigh to himself, they were running out of time, quickly. The apprentice's attention immediately turned to Horsetail as he said his name. He listened as Horsetail asked him about what was needed for the two. "Mmm.." Mumblepaw hummed as he closed his eyes. "Well... it is quite clear that they are having a difficult time breathing. I checked them before, Spottedpaw even told me herself before her condition got this bad. So I suggest juniper berries for that." He mewed. "They both have burns on them... I believe that we should clean them if we need to, and then start with applying some comfrey if it hasn't already happened." He paused for a short moment, then resumed to speaking. "I'm sure they have sore throats from inhaling all that smoke, some honey or nectar could fix that. It also seems that they are in a very weak state. I believe that we should have something to keep their strength going, ragwort... maybe even lamb's ear." He mewed in a serious tone, only to look up at Horsetail with a bit worry. "Don't listen to me of course... I'm no medicine cat after all.." He let out a nervous chuckle.

Horsetail twitched his ear, as he listened to Mumblepaw's words. Once the apprentice was finished, Horsetail nodded his head. A small smirk was forming at the side of his mouth, maybe the smoke had gotten to him after all. "Good, nicely done", the medicine cat praised. Tapping his tail to the apprentices side, he added, "Be a bit surer with what you say, when you are certain that it is right." Hearing Stripepaw's words, the send colored tom looked to him, he did not want to crush the young cats hopes, but also did not want to give him false hope. "I will do what I can", Horsetail said in an even voice.
Looking to the already gathered comfrey root, Horsetail had collected earlier, the medicine cat saw that Icepaw had woke up. Turning to Stripepaw, Horsetail pointed with his tail to Icepaw and the pile of comfrey, "I want you to go over there, tell Icepaw what is going on and start chewing up some of the comfrey, if Icepaw is well enough she can help too", Horsetail ordered, maybe if the apprentice was keeping his paws busy he would worry less. "Rainpaw, keep and eye on Hawkpaw and Spottedpaw, give them some water, if they need it", Horsetail directed, nodding his head to Rainpaw. Waving his tail for Mumblepaw to follow, Horsetail started to walk off. Before going to far though, he paused, "Rainpaw, if you can, let Snowecho know what is happening and that I am going out with Mumblepaw to gather herbs", the dark sand colored tom said.
Turning off, Horsetail started to speak to Mumblepaw, "There's some juniper up this hill, so we'll go there first", Horsetail said, starting to climb up the small rise. "You were right with the Lamb's ear, but it will be hard to find right now, so we'll go and collect Sorrel instead. Sorrel has the same effects as Lamb's ear, but is more plentiful and does not lose as much of its potency when dried", the medicine cat said, looking back at Mumblepaw to make sure that the apprentice was paying attention. "The sorrel grows near the old two leg place", Horsetail continued, waving his tail in the general direction. Reaching the top of the hill, the sand colored tom nodded to the juniper bushes in front of them, "After collecting these, I want us to split up. If you know what sorrel looks like, I want you to go gather it. I will take the juniper back and then head off to gather honey", the tom said. Moving forward, Horsetail started to pluck the berries off the prickly bushes.

He let out a sigh and shifted his paw. He kneaded the earth with his claws. He flicked his tail from nervousness.

Rainpaw nodded, and stood up, about to head off to gather moss to soak before Horsetail spoke again, "Rainpaw, if you can, let Snowecho know what is happening and that I am going out with Mumblepaw to gather herbs." He said over his shoulder. Flicking her tail up to show she understood, she dashed over to where Snowecho sat, talking to Stormberry and Sunstar. Awkwardly, she interrupted the cats' conversation, "Excuse me, Snowecho." She said, lifting her head to meet the medicine cat's gaze, "Horsetail wanted me to tell you that he and Mumblepaw went to go gather supplies to help Spottedpaw and Hawkpaw." She flicked her tail toward the two apprentices who were barely conscious. "Stripepaw went over to Icepaw, she just woke up," she added, "To help chew up some herbs, I think Horsetail said they were comfrey, and I'm supposed to gather some wet moss and give water to Hawkpaw and Spottedpaw." She paused to catch her breath., when she had to deliver information, she tended to do it in one breath so she didn't forget, which was hard to do when she was having issues with her breathing. "Did you catch all that?" She asked, hoping the tom did or Stormberry or Sunstar. She dipped her head to them. No matter how bold she was, she'd never act higher than a leader or their deputy, or even a medicine cat for the matter. After collecting herself once more, she looked to the three again, "I'll go get that moss then, I just wanted to deliver the message, see ya!" She flicked her tail as she dashed off to go to the spot where she knew moss grew best, luckily it wasn't too far from here.

Mumblepaw noticed how Horsetail was already beginning to leave, it seemed like he was signaling him to do the same. The apprentice would stand and quickly trotted behind Horsetail. Though his first priority was gathering the herbs he couldn't help his eyes drifting off to the scenery around him. Mumblepaw has never gone this far from camp before, everything was quite fascinating to him. There's some juniper up this hill, so we'll go there first. Horsetail's words quickly caught the apprentice's attention once more, though his head tilted when the sandy tom mentioned a hill. A hill..? Mumblepaw would asked himself. Though he did know what a hill was he had never needed to travel up one. The tom's eyes narrowed when he finally looked at the hill, it didn't look to high so he was sure his stamina could withstand it. Mumblepaw would began climbing, trying to keep up with Horsetail's pace, it was a bit difficult for him but he managed. You were right with the lamb's ear, but it will be hard to find right now, so we'll go and collect sorrel instead. Mumblepaw let out a small hff, he hasn't really seen sorrel too many times. Sorrel has the same effects as lamb's ear, but is more plentiful and does not lose as much of its potency when dried. Mumblepaw quietly nodded along, but he didn't really understand what Horsetail was talking about. When they finally reached the top Mumblepaw let out a small sigh, he was already tired. This is only the beginning.. He reminded himself in a low hiss before shaking his head, they still needed to gather more herbs. After collecting these, I want us to split up. If you know what sorrel looks like, I want you to go gather it. Mumblepaw blinked for a moment, he was about to ask a bit more about sorrel but Horsetail was already picking juniper. It's better to ask now than wait when it's too late. He grumbled, there was no time to think about pride. "Mmm, Horsetail." Mumblepaw closed his eyes as he gave a blank mew. "I don't know what sorrel looks like." He gave a defeated hff to the cat.

Snowecho - 24 Moons - Medicine Cat - 30/30 - Clan Territory, River - Mentions: Stormberry, Rainpaw, Open!

Snowecho relaxed as Stormberry curled around him, closing his eyes as a sense of safety he had not felt in a long while settled over him. The only things that kept him from fully relaxing, were the cries of panicked cats needing a medicine cat's help. "I-I need to help." He protested tiredly. He opened his eyes, and turned his head to look at the deputy. "W-Whenever we heal one, another seems to get ill." He felt bad complaining, but he trusted Stormberry, felt safe around him. And he kept his tone hushed, so no one would overhear him. "W-We can hardly catch a break, it's exhausting." He continued, keeping that hushed tone. "I-I know that now it's b-because of a fire." He murmured, starting to feel a bit warmer with Stormberry's help. He started grooming at his shoulder, trying to dry himself up. He quieted down his already quiet complaining when he noticed Rainpaw come over.

"I got it." He mewed, still mostly drenched from almost drowning. He felt bad for being on the ground with Stormberry curled around him, but he needed to regain his strength before doing anything. His limbs simply refused to move or support his weight. Hopefully he would gain enough strength to get up and get started soon.

Softpaw managed to stop his running when he suddenly came nose to nose with Alderpaw. He felt relief swarm through him as he bumped his head against the other apprentice, purring so much that he could not speak. He walked around the other tom, rubbing up against him as he went. "You had me worried." He almost scolded. He noticed the squirrel in Alderpaw's jaws. At least one of them had done something productive for the Clan. As he thought of the Clan, he turned his head and looked towards the group of cats. Many seemed to be injured, others were shocked, scared, or trying to do something to cheer other cats up. "I... I don't know if I can do this."

After Rainoaw responded, Pebblesplash looked to the grassy earth below her. She heard Mumblepaw and Horsetail hard at work, desperately tryin to save Hawkpaw and Spottedpaw. She watched Rainpaw and Mumblepaw walk off, probably to find herbs. Pebblesplash saw Stripepaw’s tail flicking from side to side. She had no words, at least none that would make the situation less tense.

Rainpaw stretched up and clawed at the uppermost bits of moss on the tree, revelling the feeling of stretching out. After gathering some moss, she dropped back down and padded over to the river, dipping it in, eyes glittering at the thought of a swim. She shook herself, Now isn't the time. She trotted back with her soaked ball of moss and notice Pebblesplash near Hawkpaw, staring at the grass. "Hwe!" She mumbled through the moss as she placed it beside Hawkpaw's head. "Hey!" She said again, flicking the cat playfully with her tail. Rainpaw felt mentally better now that she had something to do. "I'm gathering moss to make Hawkpaw and Spottedpaw more comfortable." She said poking the wet moss ball beside Hawkpaw's nose with a claw. "We'll that's obviously for drinking." She added awkwardly. "Anyway, wanna help me gather some moss and feathers? I know it's an apprentice job and all, but it would really help!" She flicked her tail, accidentally brushing it against Hawkpaw's nose in doing so. She jumped, not realizing she was sitting so close, "Oops! Sneezing wouldn't be good right now, would it?" She mumbled, half to herself, before scooching around to face Pebblesplash from a different angle.

Hawkpaw took a shuddering breath in. He opening his eyes half way. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. He felt trapped. He wanted to say something, anything! He closed his mouth and eyes and making a small humming noise. He wanted them to know he was still there. That he was still hanging on. He couldn't speak but he could hum. He smiled his tail twitching.

Before she was about to go to gather more moss, Rainpaw heard a sound. It was almost like a buzzing, no, a humming. Her ears turned toward the sound before she did. It was coming from Hawkpaw! Her eyes widened and she whipped around. Hawkpaw's eyes were open if only a little and he was twitching his tail. Suddenly Rainpaw got very excited and she started pelting around Hawkpaw like a kit, "Hawkpaw's awake!" She shouted, before stooping down to his muzzle, "Can you speak? Are you able to sit? Do you wanna sit? How do you feel? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Drink the moss. Should I fetch Snowecho? I probably should, shouldn't I? SNOWECHO!" Questions tumbled out of her left and right and she couldn't stop them before she screeched Snowecho's name. "Pebblesplash, get Stripepaw or Icepaw! I can't leave because Horsetail told me to keep an eye on Hawkpaw and Spottedpaw... Spottedpaw!" She said realizing she hadn't checked on the she-cat yet. She dashed over to her and started nosing her to see if she would wake up.

Horsetail nodded his head, at Mumblepaw's words. It was true that the apprentice probably would not know what sorrel was, the only patch of it did grow near the old two leg place. Placing the already gathered juniper berries on the ground, the medicine cat sat down. His paw was aching him, with the involuntary swim he had taken the cobwebs has slipped off.
With his claws, the sand colored tom started to draw in the dirt. "Now sorrel has large leave, sort of shaped like this", lifting his paw, Horsetail showed Mumblepaw his drawing. "It actually look a lot like dock, do you know what that looks like?", Horsetail asked, he hoped that Mumblepaw knew. There had been quite a large patch of dock that had always grown right next to camp, Horsetail assumed though, that it had probably burned up in the fire. "The sorrel does not have a strong scent, but the taste is a bit.... bitter", Horsetail added, looking back at Mumblepaw. Had the apprentice understood?
