Horsetail had just gathered up all the leftover herbs. The dark sand colored tom had treated every injured cats, luckily most had just been scratches, bruises, and fatigue. He did not like the way Earthquakes tail had been smashed, that would take a few days to heal. Hearing some young paws padding over, Horsetail looked up. Rainpaw had stopped in front of him, the apprentice had been one of the few he had not looked over yet.
"Why is everybody so interested in my eyes, all of a sudden?", the medicine cat asked, a bit exasperated that everyone asked him this question and never gave him any answers. Moving his tail, the tom indicated for Rainpaw to sit down. Looking over the apprentice, he saw that the young she-cat looked exhausted. Seeing also that she seemed to be a bit hesitant on her paws, Horsetail nodded for her to lift them up one by one. As Rainpaw did, Horsetail smeared some crushed coltsfoot onto them and then wrapping the apprentices paws in cobwebs. Leaning down he also pushed some elder leaves.
As Horsetail finished, his eyes drifted passed the apprentice. He could see Clearsong and Glade heading out, Horsetail did not like the idea of the stranger sticking around. Still, he had brought Lioncloud's body back. The medicine cat shook his head and looked back at Rainpaw. He was still waiting on an answer or maybe it would be better to go over to the river and looking into it, just to see for himself.

The dark sand colored tom nodded his head, as the apprentice appolagised and then 'explained'. For once in his life, the medicine cat was very slow in comprehending. 'Golden eyes?' Horsetail thought, 'No, my eyes are blue-green'. The tom looked a bit puzzled. Getting to his paws, like he was in a trance. Horsetail walked in the direction of the river's edge, stopping by a still pool at its edge, Horsetail looked down. His breath caught in his throat.

There he was, but not really. His eyes were gold, no they looked like glowing fireflies. His eyes were glowing gold, with silver around the rims. The rest of him seemed fine, no.... there was something.... something....
Then it hit him, like he had been struck on the head, Horsetail stumbled back. He could see through himself, like looking through the moon glistening on the water's surface. What.... what was going on? Horsetail looked down on himself. Touching his right paw to his left leg, Horsetail drew his paw up and down. No, he was there, he was really there. A bit on shaky legs now, the medicine cat walked towards the pools edge again. There he was gain, see through and with gold eyes. Just to make sure that he truly was not going crazy, the tom placed his left paw over his left eye. He lost sight in the left eye, yes it was really his eye. Why? Was it because he was in Starclan? Would the others have this as well? Would they have other effects maybe?
Horsetail's legs started to shake again and, before he could collapse, Horsetail sat down. His head low now, looking to the ground, the toms shoulders fell. Why? Why was all of this happening?

Glade pushed all the moss together in a big pile, and then sat down beside it, looking up the tree. "I was born a kittypet. My mother was taken from me as soon as I was weaned, and my owners starved me as I was growing up. I tried to find her, but I haven't seen her since I left them. As you can tell, I don't eat much.
I started exploring many sun-falls ago.. too many to count. I wanted to find a place where I belonged, where I could prove to my mother that I could be more than just a cat who depended on others.."
He smiled sadly, and he thought of how his mother had actually been a fearless loner. She lived on her own, got pregnant from a rogue who eventually she killed for abandoning her, and raised Glade by herself. She died fighting off that same group of rogues that his father lived with.. when he was a only 5 moons old.
"But what about you? Did you grow up here? It seems so peaceful here.."

Clearsong sat down by the pile as well as he listened to the skinny tom's story. He flicked his large ears when the tom finished, he didn't like the feeling he felt. He was supposed to be angry at Glade, not feeling pity. He sighed, slightly annoyed that he was giving in to the tom's questions, but he answered anyway with a short snort of amusement before speaking. "Yeah, I wish it was as peaceful here as it seems. I was born here, yes, my mother was named Quietshadow and my father was Amberstone. My mother... left... when my sister and I were kits, and my father was hit by a monster. Mainly, we were raised by Earthquake, the tom with a currently broken tail," he added to clarify, "There sometimes is peace, sometimes there's battles. You really can never guess what happens next out here in the wild." Clearsong shook his head, looking at Glade. "Can I really trust this tom? a worm of suspicion crawled in his stomach, he felt conflicted.
