Plotline

Many generations ago, the four packs lived in peace in the comforts of their established territories, before disaster struck. Slowly, more and more humans crept in to study them and visit their home, but with them they brought filth and fire. After a horribly dry season, the land burst into flames, driving the four packs away from home and far away from each other, where they all lived in isolation.

Now, almost 50 years later, the ancestors have spoken: it is time to return. The packs have returned to what their ancestors had originally inhabited for countless years, with the humans completely gone. The forest has regrown, but the relationships that the packs once had with each other...will tensions grow poor? Will they chase each other from their home? Or will all be as right as rain?

Vice // Noctis // Warrior // Location: Noctis Camp // Mentions: Ace, Rovaana, Iniovij, Open

Vice eyed the proceedings from a healthy distance, watching the alpha stammer. at least he was trying.
sighing, she made her way over to him.
"Ace," she snapped, "I'll go hunting then, shall I? I'll be sure to tell you what I catch."
she didn't wait for an answer, instead charging into the forest determinedly. she was so bored recently, and Iniovij hadn't been here to entertain her-
What was that.
Vice tensed all over, shifting into a hunting posture.

Stark // Pagnia // Alpha Male // Location: Pagnia Camp // Mentions: kiran, nova, iniovij, Open

Stark returned from the morning patrol covered in mud and grumpy. Twigs were caught in his fur, briars and stickers were tangled in his chest.
he was not having a good day, but when he dragged himself into camp and saw Iniovij resting on the maple, Nova asleep, Kiran laughing with a denmother, and the rest of the pack being generally happy, he couldn't really stay upset.
grumpy, maybe, but he felt significantly better.
he made his way over to nova and Iniovij, nudging his mates chin. iniovij snorted when the she-wolf did not stir.
"she's been like that most of the morning. she woke up for a bit to talk to me about... to talk to me, but then she fell asleep again."
stark rolled his eyes and let her sleep, resolving himself to grooming his own pelt.
as he picked burrs from his shoulders with his teeth, his thoughts again turned to the meeting.
there were four packs in a small space. if they didn't cooperate, bad things could happen. everything they've found here could be lost with one misplaced word, one ill thought out comment that was a grave slight. they couldn't afford to fight.
other than achieving basic peace, all stark wanted to get out of this first meeting were the rules.
no one else in his territory. no one will know where the den is. and limited contact with the other packs.
it was the only way to keep them all safe.
hunting rules and catalouges and census's could come later, for now, he just wanted to live.

Bracken
Lumen Beta | Male | 5.5
Location: Lumen Camp | Mentions: Tarkik, Romulus [Indirectly], Remus [Indirectly]

The sounds of a tussle echoed across camp, but Bracken made sure to ignore it. The cries where of Remus, a wolf who didn’t seem to know how to keep out of the Alphas way. Romulus would quickly put him in his place, and all would be calm once again. That is, if the healer didn’t think to try anything. His name escaped Bracken for the moment, but golden eyes locked onto the tucked form of the other wolf. He noticing him noticing them. The look in his eyes he was ware as well.

The large brute huffed, climbing from his flat rock to follow after the younger male. He was very young in fact, Bracken recalled. So this mistake he would let be a lesson to the wolf, and not so much a punishment. Romulus on the other hand, was unpredictable. Bracken fell behind only a few steps, just to see how ballsy the young healer really was. Eyebrows rising up towards his ears when he actually heard him speak. Perhaps too ballsy.

β€œSome could say that they’d fight even harder, if only to earn that encouragement,” he slipped in beside the smaller male. Giving him a side eye downward. He wouldn't offer him the respect of direct contact, and dared him to hold it anyway. Their Alpha was a bit forward with his anger, unlike Bracken, who held all emotions under lock and key. He was a cold and calculating male, almost unfeeling. This came across as clear as day now, his blank eyes on Tarkik, and his posture tall and sturdy like a tree.

Tahnjo||Noctis||Commander||Location: Noctis Camp||Mentions:Ace, Scorch, Luka, Primrose(indirectly), Eerin(indirectly), Vice (Indirectly) Open

He gave a nod towards scorch, partially 'thanks' and partially in recognition "Yes, I took that into account. I still have my doubts of exactly how well the population has jumped back up myself. It was only the few, I snacked on some plants while I was out instead of hunting. I picked up the smell of some birds, but no sign of deer where I was. Wouldn't dare try and touch them yet anyways though. Plants seem to be growing very well though." His words where a bit choppy, trying to speak while also scratching his ear. He watched as Vice got up, and left hastily. He spoke a few words to himself, inaudible for the most, but the tone didn't exactly sound pleasant.

Luka caught his alpha's over happiness and smiled a bit to himself, ears flicking.
"Its a gorgeous place you've picked for us, Ace," he tossed in, hoping to make the leader feel a little less awkward.
The dark gray canine focused his green eyes on Scorch, curious about her reserved demeanor. He hadn't much time to settle into this pack before they had moved, and getting to know everyone had taken a backseat. But now, the friendly wolf was able to socialize.
"Do you need any helping paws today?" He asked his alpha.

Primrose | Noctis | Healer | Location: Noctis camp | Mentions: Eerin, open

Rose kept her aloof gaze aimed at the beta, altough her ears were more concerned in catching the conversation going on around them; having a new environment had her feeling particularly curious towards her packmate's emotions. As logical and objective she liked to think she was, it was hard to keep 'worst case scenarios' out of her head. She snapped her attention back to Eerin as the she-wolf laid out an invitation to work together. The beta wasn't her first choice of company for the day, but mingling wouldn't hurt that much. With Rose's seemingly detached attitude most kept their distance, maybe she could appear more inviting, "I have time to spare, if you think I'll be of help." Her claws dug into the mixture of dried leaves and soil while she stretched her back legs, assuming a more active stance, "It would be nice to have shelter from the rain."

Vice// Noctis // Warrior // Location: Noctis Territory // Mentions: Ace,
Tahnjo, Scorch Open

Vice shifted into hunting posture, tense.
Seconds later, a white tailed deer stepped delicately out of the trees, nose twitching and ears swivelling. It could smell her, but it was confused. It didn't know where she was, and so it proceeded, tense and wary.
Vice took a careful step forward, accidentally stepping on a dry leaf. The Doe jerked its head up, and she launched herself at it. Her jaws clamped around its throat, dragging it to the ground. It let out a hoarse rattle as it's windpipe was crushed, kicking half heartedly into the air with sharp hooves. Vice maintained her grip until it went slack, then took a step back and admired her work.
Quick and clean.
She grabbed it by the neck again, blood splattering her muzzle and chest, and began dragging the carcasses towards camp.

She had hardly approached the entrance when Ace came barrelling out, frantic.
"Vice!" He exclaimed. "What- what did you do? we were supposed to only catch small things! Not deer-where did you even find it?!"
He was panicking, vice realised, but she didn't see why.
"You can't feed a pack on birds, ace," she said sharply, and he reared back, unsure of himself. On either side of him, Tahnjo and scorch stepped out of the entrance.
"But we were going to try," scorch said angrily. Tahnjo looked worried.
"The forest might not have bounced back enough-so we are trying to be careful-"
"Of course it hasn't recovered," Vice spat, interrupting him. "We've already surpassed the carrying capacity of the forest with who we brought here. The packs are larger now than they were before we returned. Hell, starvation will probably set in before the sixth moon meeting. Not amount of rationing and careful list making will stop it. And then in the spring? With pups? There are four packs and some scattered loners, and they're back all trying to stake a claim in a forest that has just recouperated from bare earth. Our ability to cooperate will be the least of our worries, mark my words."
Vice grabbed the doe by the neck again and viciously dragged it inside to the centre of the camp, then stomped back into her den, raging.

Romulus | Lumen | Alpha | Location: Lumen Camp | Mentions: Besart, Remus, Tarkik, Bracken

"To the North?" Romulus hummed to himself thoughtfully, "Alright then, hunting at an unknown burrow might just put us on even grounds," The Alpha replied haughtily, directing his latter comment at Besart. Remus being equal? Now that was a funny joke. Romulus made to move, but paused mid-stride, attentive enough to hear another wolf quickly springing into their vicinity. The male turned, catching the eye of his healer. Romulus didn't place him as the confrontational type, but he was young, and spurred on by the inexperience of interfering in business one should not. Romulus' fur bristled at Tarkik's gall, and he stepped closer into the younger male's personal space. "If I may, I'd suggest that you stick your nose out of my business," Romulus jeered, "It'd be very unfortunate for Remus if we lost our only healer." The Alpha barely noticed the arrival of his Beta, his mind hazed by a cloud of anger. Romulus clung on to a mere thread of restraint - Tarkik was young, and so should be excused of his behaviour, however the Alpha wasn't above putting him in his place if he refused to back down.

Besart | Lumen | Warrior | Location: Lumen Camp | Mentions: Romulus, Remus, Tarkik, Bracken

Besart's laid-back demenour faltered as the pack's healer came bounding over in defense of Remus. He shouldered his way between the alpha and beta, creating a visual barrier between them and the two smaller males, "Tempers are high because of the relocation, we should all calm down before we do something we regret." He glances over his shoulder at Tarkik and Remus, motioning for them to get out of the line of fire. "We shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves when there are three other unknown packs breathing down or necks." His voice shifted from an uncharacteristic authoritative tone back to a calming, somber lull as he spoke.

Eerin | Noctis | Beta | Location: Noctis Territory | Mentions: Primrose

Eerin enthusiastically rises to her feet in response, "Let's get to it then, shall we?" She says with a smile before heading towards the densely wooded area surrounding camp, "There's quite a few trees with Usnea growing on them near the stream," She adds, glancing back towards camp before stepping off into the overgrown foliage and mostly disappearing due to her short stature.

Briars scraped through her coat, causing an uncomfortable sensation as they scratched her skin. As she emerged from the thicket, she could smell the scent of water lingering in the air, "Shouldn't be too far ahead now." She speaks, pausing to wait for Primrose and picking a few clingy thorns from her mottled fur.

β†ž { Scorch } β†
Female β€’ 4 Years Old β€’ Noctis Scout
Location: Noctis Camp | Mentions: Ace

Scorch's expression seemed to change, to one of knowing rather than confusion. "You do not wish to entertain thoughts of war. I understand, but it is best to be prepared. You must have a plan should they come from your throat." Ace shook himself, swiftly changing the subject to something more pleasant, agreeing with fervor how wonderous their new home was. Yes, he did not want to discuss the prospect of conflict despite her words of caution, she could see.

Ace was still brimming with youth and innocence, and the death of his father came prematurely. He would have much to learn through trial and error...yet an error severe enough might lead to a short life. 'Wolves like you often die young,' she thought to herself, but for once stopped herself from verbalizing her opinions. There was something about the lad that endeared something inside of her. She wanted him to succeed. Encouragement, and guidance. That was what he needed. Scorch would keep an eye out for anything else. Danger, from outside or within, and if she saw it, she would take care of it. "Indeed, it is. I think we will be happy here."

"A meeting would be the proper procedure when you're ready. I look forward to hearing your first speech in our new territory," she replied cheerily before padding rolling back onto her paws. "What would you have me do for now? Is there anything you need?"

━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━

β†ž { Tarkik } β†
Masc NB β€’ 2 Years Old β€’ Lumen Healer
Mentions: Bracken, Romulus, Remus, Besart

Bracken's arrival should have deterred him. Those cold, empty eyes that wouldn't even do him the honor of staring him down directly, as if he were not worth the beta's acknowledgment combined with the way Romulus towered over him, spitting ominous words would have left the old him a cowering puddle of apologies. Instead, it only increased his dismay. More of the same. A big brute of an alpha and his equally brutish second, throwing their weight around, forcing their subordinates to submission through fear and violence. Romulus' body language and tone were clear enough. If he didn't back down and show proper respect he would be punished.

The one thing that differed Romulus from his previous alpha was the nature of his rage. Hot and wild, uncontrolled like a fire, whereas Slade's anger ran cold, calculated. It should frighten him. So why wasn't he afraid? "I'm your healer, anything that brings harm to a member of the pack is my business, even if that harm comes from you," Tarkik replied sharply. "Remus won't be the only wolf who suffers if you kill me and you know it. Healers aren't easy to replace, good ones at least. Our craft is a rare art."

What would Romulus do to him for speaking out? Shred his other ear? Re-break his tail? Was there anything he could do Slade hadn't? Tarkik doubted he had the creativity. 'He could blind you, break your legs, leave you in the forest for dead,' a quivering voice in the back of his head squeaked and the thought nearly set his legs shaking. Somehow, he managed to keep his body still, if only barely. His ears pulled back against his skull, but his eyes still held a hint of scathing disapproval.

Besart placing himself in front of him and Remus like a barrier took Tarkik by surprise, the shock evident on his face. He'd never had a packmate rush to his defense before. Even his own mother had left him to face their alpha's wrath alone, lacking the courage to shield her only pup from his cruelty. Apprehension itched beneath his belt. What if Besart was hurt for trying to soothe frayed tempers? His words held some truth, he realized, Tarkik was tense, and perhaps emboldened by the journey it took to reach this place. He'd worked hard to keep the pack healthy and strong on that arduous trek.

Doratu sighed, fed up with waiting and boldly stepped into the camp, prepared for aggression. His eyebrows raised slightly when he saw the alpha and his underlings, but Doratu was used to in-pack fighting, so he sat to watch.

Maiah||Divum||Young Warrior||Location: Divum camp||Mentions: Open

Maiah rose up from and her den, had she slept in again? Man, she needed to get that fixed. She laid down in the shadow of a tree, cleaning dirt out from between her toes. "Hey...where is everyone?" She hadn't noticed, but camp was almost silent. Although true that the pack wasnt very large, normally someone was around "Jeeze. How late did I sleep in?" She wasnt one to wander off, so for now, she'd stay in camp and continue to groom herself, until she got bored or finished grooming. At the thought of it, she was hungry but the alpha was nowhere to be seen, so maybe she'd take a nap instead? Oh. But she just woke up. "Hmm. Guess I'm off" she shook out her pelt, a few furs sticking up in odd places from her saliva.

Although she didn't remember the last time she saw Kali, she did remember where it was. It was at a particularly shallow part of the river, and there had been a large red rock lodged into the shore that they had used for sleeping on, it would always warm up throughout the day. It hadn't been all too long since she had last been here, trying to find ways to entertain herself while Kali was out hunting for them. Standing on the rock, she leapt and cleared the most part of the river, her back paws splashing in just before the shore of the other side. Kicking the water from her now cold feet Maiah continued walking, memories would hit her every so often as she would see a specific area or thing reminding her.

Ace // Noctis // Alpha // Location: Noctis Camp // Mentions: Scorch, Tahnjo, Luka

He nodded thoughtfully as Tahnjo mentioned greenery growing well, recalling some of his training from moons past. "It would make sense for the green to spring up well, I think fire usually nurtures the soil. Circle of life, I suppose." With a frown, the alpha furrowed his brows at the idea of deer being scarce. It was troubling for an alpha who had to protect and feed a pack the size of his, but Noctis had only just settled in, and their territory was vast. Surely, prey populations had only temporarily been frightened by the sudden commotion of hoards of wolves coming in. "Hopefully everything is just in hiding for now. Our movement may have disturbed the land, but we'll find balance." When in doubt, Ace always tried to be as optimistic as possible.

His amber pools flickered over to Scorch guiltily. Yes, she was correct- he never liked to keep his mind focused on war and bloodshed. The packs had faced enough turmoil over the past 50 years to keep them set for a century, Ace wished for his reign to be one of enlightening and happiness. However, he knew from the moment his father passed on that being an alpha would be all but peachy. Once more, he attempted to push the pessimism to the corner of his mind, and focus on the bliss of what they had. "Hmmm, well...we could use more moss for bedding? I was going to do that after I woke up." He wouldn't mind tagging along with Scorch, but seeing that Eerin had left with Primrose, he decided that it might be best for him to stick around, at least until his beta returned.

Whipping his head around, Ace's grin was wide, from black ear to black ear. "Right? I'm glad everyone seems to love it so far!" He responded to Luka in an up-beat tone with yet another small wag of his tail. Ace loved the territory, he truly did, but he loved the praise and joy of his packmates even more. Hmmm, more projects...fortunately, Noctis was good on jumping right on their task, so it appeared that most dens were built, and the pile of prey was at a decent level. "You could lend Scorch a paw, if you'd like? I know it seems like a meager task, but I think the mothers and older warriors would be thankful to have fresh and comfy bedding."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remus // Lumen // Warrior // Location: Lumen Camp // Mentions: Romulus, Bracken, Tarkik, Besart

Remus, Remus, Remus- why the hell was this all about him so suddenly? Not a soul had budged when Romulus challenged him for the title of alpha, they had all merely watched with hungry eyes as brother turned on brother, and they bathed the grass in the blood that they shared. Really, it was Romulus who shed his blood- Remus was an incapable fighter, and it appeared that everyone knew that.

He was shocked to hear such bold words erupt from Tarkik's maw, but the string-bean of a wolf did not reveal those emotions, and instead he watched the scene unfold with intelligent chocolate eyes. It would not surprise the spindly warrior if Tarkik received a pummeling for standing up against the dominant power in the pack, but he imagined that help on the healer's part would immediately follow. A pack needed healing and wisdom equally as much as it needed guidance and muscle, the warriors knew that much. Without their healer, they would be vulnerable. Remus could only hope Romulus wasn't thick enough to be blind to that fact.

The red wolf twitched his ear dismissively as Bracken approached, with the thin wolf keeping his semi-crouched stance. He may have been thin and submissive, but Remus was as sharp as a wolf. A fox in wolf's clothing, if you must. However, when Besart stepped in front of the healer and scrawny warrior, there was a spark, a glimmer in Remus' eyes that symbolized his old self. But as soon as it appeared, it was gone, faded away in fear that Romulus might catch it. Do not be a fool, Remus. Patience, patience is a virtue. He reminded himself that he was in no state to speak up. He may have had a pair of wolves on his side, but one was a healer, and his littermate...well, Romulus was Romulus. And now, he had Bracken to add to it all.

For the sake of keeping the enemies of his enemies close, Remus' eyes briefly darted over to Tarkik as a sign of thanks.

Name: Faith - Rank: Loner - Family: Dawn - Location: Outside Noctis Pack Territory - Tags: Dawn (Open for a pack wolf)

Faith snuck through the bushes, not knowing how close she was to the camp of a pack, she smelled them sure but she had since she'd jumped over a fallen tree. She glanced around for the prey that she'd been following, sighing when she couldn't see it anymore she shook her head and looked over to a bush hiding a hole next to a tree. "Come on out Dawn, I know you're there." She said her ears twitching as she listened to everything.

"So, what do we do now? Wait for more prey? I can survive on birds and squirrels Faith but you gotta eat something bigger, and I know that you know that but I mean other than finding a fresh kill how are you gonna get anything bigger? Not insulting you or anything, I'm just curious." Dawn said tilting her head, "You know you could always make them run until they tire themselves out." She suggested with a smirk and a shrug of her shoulders.

Sitka // Outsider // Location: Unspecified Border // Mentions: Rovaana, Open

The tiring female sucked her tongue back into her mouth when a foreign scent rolled her way, causing her to grow silent so as to not be spotted. At first, it felt unfamiliar, but after spending more time on it, Sitka realized that the scent of the stranger wasn't as much as a "stranger" as she thought, perhaps more of a...neighbor. This wolf, she had detected them before, a little bit before the packs had arrived to stake claim to various parts of the land. The energy that had been lost in the process of exploration was immediately regained by the mere concept of making a new friend, at least formally.

Spinning around on her heels and trotting at a leisurely pace, the light-weight followed the scent trail that gave its owner away. After slipping through a patch of bracken, Sitka spotted the stranger, a rather scrawny wolf. She would look like a mouse in the presence of Sitka's deer-like physique. Nonetheless, she was as eager as ever to meet this neighbor she had never quite caught before! Despite Rovaana's back being turned towards her, the silvered female didn't hesitate to bark out, loud and proud. "Hey! Hey you- I've smelled you before!" It was hard to believe that a wolf as down-to-earth as Sitka was once a respectable beta figure that had to hail to her alpha. No wonder she left the responsibilities and confusing caste systems of pack life behind.

Primrose | Healer | Noctis | Noctis territory | Mentions: Eerin

The healer lagged behind for a few seconds before following suit behind the beta, posture showing less liveliness than her companion, but keeping up the pace thanks to her long legs. Rose let her eyes close for a few seconds, taking in the many herbal scents in the forest. This place truly seemed more... energetic than her previous homes, if the wave of refreshing smells was anything to go by. She made a mental note to reserve some time to explore the ones she didn't recognize.

"Usnea? That's very useful if we could find some cnidium," the she-wolf commented more for herself than Eerin, pushing trough the dense grove wih ease, shaggy fur keeping her skin mostly safe from thorns, altough quite a few lodged themselves in the healer's pelage. "I wasn't aware there was water so close to camp," Primrose stopped a few paces ahead of Eerin, eyes searching the bountiful foliage, "Makes moss gathering all the more quick, if we could open a path trough the briars," the white furred wolf turned her attention back towards the other female, "Are you alright? Those can cut deep."
