Romulus watched his brother pause, as still as a statue. The Alpha shifted his gaze from Remus, surveying the nearby area in hopes of spotting what had made the wolf so anxious. His search came up empty, consisting of tall grass and not much else, and Romulus' first instinct was to yell at Remus for being so nervous over a mere few rabbits. He knew his brother was a skittish mess, but there was nothing to be worried about - unless he was fearful of the consequences of a bad hunt, which made sense in Romulus' mind. Luckily, Remus seemed to regain his sense without the larger male having to knock it into him, giving the signal. Romulus lifted himself from where he lay shielding the burrow, opting to place his snout at the entrance. He began to snap and snarl, growling into the burrow with a frightening ferocity. Romulus thudded the ground with his forepaws, mimicking the act of digging into the burrow, yet not disrupting anything more than a few bits of loose grass. The Alpha could hear the rabbits scrambling through their dirt tunnels, hoping that they'd surface and fall directly into the trap.

Scorch paused for the briefest of moments as Luka called after her, allowing the younger wolf enough time to catch up before she started forward again. She remained a few paces ahead of him as they entered camp, depositing the moss for Ace's inspection. The arrival of Eerin and Primrose revealed they'd done much the same, and their alpha seemed pleased with the findings.

A few sparse droplets were her first hint the rain was coming, and Scorch moved to stand over the moss pile, shielding it from the subsequent downpour. "Be careful. Remember we are still new to this land," she advised as Ace announced he would be checking on the borders. She considered protesting, insisting at least one wolf should accompany him, but perhaps a bit of independence would do him some good. "I will see you later."

Before long the russet and tawny-furred she-wolf was positively drenched, water streaming down her face and sides. Her ears flattened back and eyes squinted to keep the water out, but otherwise, she appeared unperturbed by the impromptu shower.

"I hope so," Tarkik muttered, considering Soul's words. Perhaps he would reach out to their alpha later, try and smooth over any bruised egos. It was interesting to hear Remus and Romulus hadn't always been this way, driven apart by a lust for power and recognization. "It's a shame things ended that way. Didn't they realize they could have ruled together, as alpha and beta?"

Tarkik doubted Bracken would like to hear him say that, and his eyes searched their surroundings nervously. The reddish male was nowhere in sight, however, and he soon relaxed. Once they returned to camp he blinked at Soul appreciatively before sliding back into his nest beside the herb bush. He would rest for a few moments, exhausted by the confrontation and his own anxiety.

Ciaran ducked down flatter as Romulus' gaze scanned the surrounding foilage, not daring to breathe until the larger male refocused on the mission at paw. He watched with, admittedly, a great deal of interest as the three wolves formulated a plan together. Once the other two were in position the leader set things into motion. He held his breath as paws smacked the earth, but it seemed the brute was taking his packmate's words to heart and his actions were carefully restrained. For a moment Ciaran caught himself feeling envious. What must it be like to have a body that contained that much power?

Movement just beyond the trio saw his attention divert, nearly choking on his own spit at the sight of a pup striding into view, a rabbit dangling from her jaws. The wind blew her scent toward him and Ciaran could determine with certainty she was one of the females he'd scented earlier, and she didn't carry the same pack scent these wolves shared. The hunters were too absorbed with their task to notice her immediately it seemed and Ciaran cursed under his breath; slow, measured steps taken as he edged around the burrows, attempting to make as little noise and disturbance as possible.

Miraculously, he somehow made it to the other side without being noticed, snatching Dawn and dragging her into the underbrush. "Are you an idiot?" He hissed into her ear, grateful the rabbit in her mouth might muffle any yelps of surprise or protest. "Those wolves could rip you apart. Stay quiet, and pray they don't smell either of us."
