Despite how much her hand hurt, his words made her smile a little, "How do you sort of heal?" She looked down at her hand, tilting her head, "I think it's getting better..."

Rhys shrugged and then laughed, "I've always been able to do it I guess, my brother never could. But then again he could do other things that I couldn't. Looking back on it I'm assuming it was some sort of charm cast on me as an infant. I guess there's no way to know if that's true or not though. My powers are limited, weakened here. And you, to be honest, i'm surprised you're still alive." He frowned, realising how bad it sounded when he said it aloud.

She pushed his sandwich towards him with her good hand, and started eating hers while he talked. All of this... there was no way it was possible, none of it, but she had seen it with her own eyes, so it was hard for her not to believe it. His last sentence made her smile a bit--she was used to people being candid like that--and she tilted her head at him, "Why does that surprise you?"

He smiled and pulled the grilled cheese towards him, "the poisonous gasses... The portal, I'm impressed, to be honest." He said, grinning as he picked up the sandwich, and was surprised at how good it tasted. "Wow, this is actually delicious, I mentally prepared to choke it down, but this is good!" He laughed, taking another bite, and then a sip of juice. He swallowed and looked at her, as if realizing something for the first time "this must be weird for you, I'm surprised you haven't freaked out and hit me yet. They say that's what humans do... Freak out and hit people?" He paused "... Or shoot you."

Her face paled at his words, and without thinking she coughed, trying to clear her lungs of anything bad, even though there obviously wasn't anything killing her, "I think.... I think I held my breath most of the time...." Her panic faded, however, at his reaction to the sandwich, and she smiled at him before laughing a bit, "Next time I make you something and you don't like it, just tell me and I'll figure something else out...." She frowned then, tilting her head at him before sighing softly, shaking her head a bit, "A lot of people probably would've freaked out and hit you, then called the police who would have you committed. No one here in the city would really shoot you, but if you had ended up in a rural town somewhere someone probably would.... I'm just not the type to do something like that unless I thought you were dangerous, and...." She shook her head, staring down at her sandwich, picking at it a little, "The things I've seen...."

When she coughed he reached out, he wasn't really sure why just in case she needing anything. He had meant it more as a compliment, because to people back home it would have been one. But judging by the expression on her face it didn't come across as the one here. He smiled at her comment about the food she made "I'm sure that whatever you make will be delicious." He raised an eyebrow "and I though people back home were crazy, all I did was disintegrate someone with a knife. But uh... Thank you for not hitting or shooting or committing me." He said, frowning when she looked down at her food. He wanted to ask her what kind of things she had seen, he was curious; but the look on her face warmed him otherwise.

Her hand went to her throat after a second, and as soon as she made sure she wasn't dying from acidic gas she breathed a soft sigh and moved to sit down on the barstool next to him, leaning her elbows on the countertop. His comment about her food made her laugh, and she looked down at the sandwich, even that tiny compliment making her blush a little, "I highly doubt that, but okay...." She finally looked back up at him after a while, smiling again, "If I hit you I'd probably break my fingers, if I shot you I'd probably miss and shoot myself in the foot, and if I tried to have you committed they'd do the same for me. So it's mutually beneficial that I do none of those things." She said that with a smile on her face, hoping that he would understand she was trying to make a joke.

He laughed, but he also liked how she had thought everything through "fair enough" he said; reaching for the food again. He finished off one-half of the and wide and then reached for the glass; watching the red juice slosh around the cup.

She smiled over at him, finishign her sandwich since she was really hungrhy for some reason, "I don't really do anything before thinking about all of the possible disastrous outcomes..." She smiled and got up to get herself some water, turning to look over at him, "Do you want some more juice?"

He nodded "that'd be nice, do you humans eat like this every day?" He asked, curious because everything was so different here then it was down in Hell. His gaze drifted out to the window, and although he hated the place he wondered how far away he was from the next portal. Partly because he had unfinished business down there, and partly because his powers were weaker up here; he wasn't used to it.

She smiled and took his glass, going over to the fridge to refill it and bringing it back, "What exactly do you mean by 'this'? Because we don't have this exact same meal every day, but we usually try and eat good food...." She noticed how he looked out the window, and against her better judgement she asked, out of the blue, "What are you thinking about?"

He looked up at her, "by this? I mean do you eat every day, where I come from my family will eat together once a week. And otherwise it's our own job to feed ourselves, I can go days without food; but can humans?" He looked back out the window, and thought of the rolling hills that El had told him about. He wished his brother was here so that he could tell him that he finaly made it. He was a bit surprised by her sudden question, but he answered it none the less "my brother" he said honestly.

She sat down again, looking at him a bit sadly as he explained what he meant, lightly picking at her fingernails, "My family doesn't eat together very much, my parents are almost always gone and the usually leave me here by myself...
But some families eat together every night. Humans can go a few days without food, but it's not the best for us to do that." She tilted her head at him when he answered her other question, "You have a brother? Nevermind, of corse you do if that's what you said..."

He studied her face "that makes you sad?" He asked, wondering if he could do anything to help since she had helped him so much. When she spoke about his brother it brought him a faint smile "I had a brother, remember Kade? From a few hours ago; I owed him money. He's a... Hitman, I hired him to kill Agent Bryce Kroncke, because that son of a bitch killed my brother." Rhys clenched his teeth together, trying not to show too much emotion.

She nodded a little, shrugging, "It makes me sad that my family is so dysfunctional.... a lot of other families spend every day, night, and weekend together, and we never spend time together..." She sighed heavily, pushing herself onto the counter and laying down so her head was right in front of him, hanging her arms off the sides with a small frown, "I'm.....sorry...." She winced, that sounded so bad, but she really was sorry, "Do you owe him like human money or some other kind of money?"
