He frowned, and without really thinking reached out and put a hand over hers. "Well, wherever they are, I'm sure they must be very proud of you, I know I would be." He said, unsure how comforting it really was. He half-smiled half-winced, Rhys had been given the past few months to get over his brother's death, it made him feel numb more than anything now. "It's alright, he wasn't being careful, he was hiding something, messing with the wrong people... He paid the price." Rhys shrugged, he hadn't thought about that part too much, "both I suppose, he just want's to indulge in whatever riches he can. I promised him anything valuable of Father's, he wanted money, but we don't really have a currency in the underworld. There are plenty of things like Drachma, Cowry shells whatever strange things people used to burn for tribute."

She looked down at their hands, smiling softly before looking up at him, very happy that he was doing his best to comfort her, "Oh, my parents hate me. They want me to start my own law firm, I just want to go work in the county morgue..." She shook her head, looking up at him curiously, "I could possibly give you money, if he'd take that..."

Rhys's eyes widened when she said her parents hated her, and he wrinkled his nose. "A law firm... I can understand you not wanting to get involved with one of those... But morgues, now those are interesting, they remind me of home" he said with a cheesy smile. He stopped smiling, though, when she mentioned money and instead shook his head furiously. "Absolutely not, I won't let you, it's kind, but my father has rooms of stuff he won't even know is missing; the question is how and when do I get it..."

Heather laughed at his expression, sitting up after a moment and smiling at him again, "Morgues are so much fun.... cutting up dead people all day is probably the most entertaining thing I can think of for a job." She laughed again, shaking her head, "I hate lawyers, so much..." She frowned when he refused her offer, pursing her lips a little, "Are you sure? It's certainly no skin off my parents' backs... They'd just think I stole it to feed my drug addiction or whatever other crap they think I do in my free time."

Rhys shrugged, "I never thought I'd hear a human say that" he laughed, nodding in agreement about lawyers. He frowned "Jeez, looks like your parents don't know you well, I promise I can relate... Do you have siblings? My sister had all the glory in our household. Which practically left my brother and me to fend for ourselves. Life down there isn't easy, and not just for me; for everyone. Although your money would be safe, I don't know if it would satisfy him. And anyways, a little bit of danger is exhilarating" he said with a smirk.

Heather laughed with him, drumming her fingers on her leg lightly as she smiled at him with a shrug, "They don't. And I don't have any siblings, I'm an only child. But I was... an accident. They didn't want me, so they don't know what to do with me so they let me do whatever, but they like to think I'm destroying my life, that way they can say I told you so when all's said and done." She shrugged a little, laughing again, "Whatever you say, the offer still stands."

(Sorry this is late DX I've been away all weekend)

Rhys almost felt inclined to comfort her, although she seemed strangely okay with talking about everything. He had to admit, this was the most he had opened up to anyone in a long time. He furrowed his brow, deep in thought "that's terrible, but I mean, at least everything made you who you are today. I mean, I've only spoken to a few people, but you are by far the best" he said with a grin, thankful that she was willing to help him out debt-wise.

Heather started to swing her feet, bumping her heels lightly against the cabinets while she waited for him to say something. She had no qualms about telling him that her parents hated her, it actually felt nice to tell someone who was willing to listen for once, it.... took a lot of pressure off of her, for some reason. She smiled again as he spoke, looking down and blushing a little, then shrugging, "You can't have met very nice people.... but thanks, I try." She ran her hands through her hair, pulling it out of her face, "In case it matters to you, you're one of the nicest people I've met too. But.... you're not a person...." She frowned a bit, then shook her head a little, "Nicest humanoid. There."

Rhys grinned, accepting her compliment happily, it was nice to receive something rather than hate for a change. He finished off his sandwich and looked out the window. The sense of dread that he had been unable to shake had deepened, and he half expected to see a figure outside. Yet, he saw nothing out of the ordinary, sighed, and thought about the portal being closed; and what he was going to do about it.

Heather smiled as he grinned, reaching forward to squeeze his shoulder lightly before she took his plate and hers, getting off the counter to put the dishes in the sink before coming back, leaning on her elbows in front of him, "So what do you do now?" She knew he probably wanted to go home, and he looked pretty anxious about something, but she refrained from asking.

Rhys sighed, he had asked himself that question in his head, but up until now had been procrastinating; he didn't want to answer it. He looked up at her "I suppose I should find...Another portal, seeing as the one around here has been blocked." He said, pushing the thought that maybe all the portals were blocked from his conscious.
