According to the Wiki,
"Rosettes seem to be the most popular marking on Lioden currently, due to the mysterious nature of how they're passed on, and the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding. There are tons of user theories and conspiracies floating around regarding how Rosette works, but nobody truly knows—the code has yet to be cracked."

This could be taken to imply that they are truly random ("the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding"), but it can also imply that there is, in fact, a code ("the code has yet to be cracked").

Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx
Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx
Slot 8: White Undercoat
Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx
Slot 10: Onyx Lace
-----
Exhibit B:
Gold Rosette

Mom had the following:
Base: Dark Vanilla (Fallow Nose)
Mane Type: Diabolic
Mane Color: Lilac
Eye Color: Pink
Slot 1: Brown Mask
Slot 4: Feline 6 Dark Brown
Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx

Dad had the following:
Base: Blush Rose (White Nose)
Mane Type: Diabolic
Mane Color: Manakbir
Eye Color: Peach
Slot 1: Feline 7 Ginger
Slot 2: Feline 1 Black
Slot 3: Rose Pelage
Slot 4: Maroon Pelage
Slot 5: Onyx Lace
Slot 6: Feline 4 Silver
Slot 7: Feline 2 Ginger
Slot 8: White Panther
Slot 9: Under White 4
Slot 10: Feline 3 Onyx
-----
Exhibit C:
Brown Rosette

Mom had the following:
Base: Dun (White Nose)
Mane Type: Tsavo
Mane Color: Maroon
Eye Color: White
Slot 1: White Cobweb
Slot 6: Vitiligo 3
Slot 7: Vitiligo 2
Slot 9: Vitiligo 4

Dad had the Following:
Base: Onyx (Brown Nose)
Mane Type: Savage

Eye Color: Saffron
Slot 4: Feline 6 Onyx
Slot 5: Feline 2 Onyx
Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx
Slot 7: Feline 7 Onyx
Slot 8: Feline 5 Onyx
Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx
Slot 10: Feline 4 Onyx

Do you see a pattern?
I do.
Every. Single. Father. Has. At. Least. One. Feline. Marking.
See it?
Maybe parents with Feline markings produce rosettes, but it's rare.

Idk if this is useful but I had a random Briar Shaded Rosette Gon born from parents who had the following markings:

Mother:
Slot 1: Goridhe Rosette (100%) Tier 4
Slot 2: Bloodbourne Siamese (35%) Tier 3
Slot 3: Bone Mottled Vents (100%) Tier 6
Slot 4: Clay Panther (37%) Tier 2
Slot 5: Shaded Brown (30%) Tier 3
Slot 7: Under White 4 (100%) Tier 0
Slot 8: Mottled Stripes (100%) Tier 5
Slot 9: White Genteel (100%) Tier 1
Slot 10: White Beard (100%) Tier 1

Father:
Slot 1: Feline 7 Silky (50%) Tier 2
Slot 2: Bone Soft Unders (100%) Tier 2
Slot 3: Bushveld Indri (50%) Tier 2
Slot 4: Feline 9 Silky (40%) Tier 2
Slot 5: Feline 4 Silky (80%) Tier 2
Slot 6: White Lace (50%) Tier 2
Slot 7: Bushveld Margay (100%) Tier 2
Slot 8: Silky Underfelt (100%) Tier 2
Slot 9: Bushveld Panther (100%) Tier 2
Slot 10: White Rims (100%) Tier 2

The slot with the rosette (S13) is not occupied on either parent. Mother does have a mane marking, so if that is the criteria for shaded rosette it would make sense!

Someone in chat mentioned their king (bushveld base) sired random rosettes, all of which were bushveld colored. Looking back at it, my former queen which sired 2 random rosettes had goridhe base, and both the rosettes were from bases/colors which were in that group (fiery and ginger, golden medium countershaded). The fiery inverted soft rosette's mother was also goridhe with no marking in that slot.

I'd like to suggest that maybe the parent's base factors in aswell as markings. I think we can mostly confirm that different rosette shapes depend on different things, but what about colors?

Maybe base genetics factor in? I remember having a noctis shaded ros, slot 10, sired by my former queen and one of my lionesses who I believe has rust base. I don't know if shaded rosettes are a different case, but I figured it's worth mentioning

My Maziwa was bred to a jellyfish (gold and black base genetics!) and popped a random red heavy rosette. So not sure if it’s kind of a “leading” factor but not a set in stone thing? Bushveld rosettes were announced to have its own unique factor that none others did before it! So I can definitely see colors being a necessary factor there.

Hmm. Do maziwa and jellyfish have any other genetics that match? Like brightness (for lack of a better term) and shading? I believe maziwa is golden medium countershaded, but I don't know about jellyfish, I'll have to check.

i do certainly think genetics may matter, at least a little bit

like zaba said, it looks like any rosette can spawn, but if criteria are met, they have an extra chance at rolling

Jellyfish is black dark countershaded special! Though generics playing a factor definitely! Whether on the cub or from factors? Like countershaded or solid. Haven’t looked at a single possibility so I could be way off.

I'd say thats the most likely case.

Although I want to mention, we're mostly only documenting cases that prove our theories, which might be screwing with the data

Okay so jellyfish and maziwa are both countershaded AND special. I doubt rarity plays a factor, though

yeah, i don't think it does

but yeah, you're right about the theory thing
the data is certainly gonna get fucked up because we all have a ton of theories which might not be wrong, but they're misled because it's just focusing on one specific criteria for one specific rosette

I’m planning on doing a SILLY amount of scries. I’ll use a ton of our different theories and then “opposites” to see if anything contradictory pops up! Definitely planning on grabbing leopard tails too to try.

We definitely need a list of all running theories, things we're testing, and what we're trying to prove/disprove, to keep our goals somewhat clear at the very least. I'll ask faerie next time I see them if they can edit the OG post so it's not lost in the sea of comments
